Why God Forbids Us from Worshipping Idols
Do you know why God forbids us from worshipping idols? It is because we, as human beings, carry the noble image of the eternal God. Humans are highly esteemed, even more so than angels. If a person lives a life of insignificance, yet after their death, their descendants say, Ancestors, please bless me, how can they bless you after death if they could not even bless themselves in life? We must understand that the living are more honorable than the dead.
Brothers and sisters, understand that humans are very honorable. Angels are not as honorable as humans, nor are the dead, or animals. However, we Chinese have created twelve zodiac signs, and people often ask, What is your zodiac sign? I am a rat, how unpleasant! If asked what your sign is, you should say I belong to Jesus, I belong to God. How wonderful that would be!
We all bear the image of the eternal God. Everyone must know that humans are created in God's image, but angels are not. This means that humans are very honorable. So, why were angels created? Angels are spirits who serve humans; they are servants. Therefore, we must not worship angels, for humans are greater than angels. God did not say to angels, Come and reign with me, but God said to humans, You shall reign with me. In other words, the reason God does not want us to worship idols today is that humans are highly esteemed.
However, once people fall for the devil's schemes, they feel their self-image is very low. But everyone must know that we humans are very honorable. Jesus, who is God, has become flesh and come into the world. He commands us, You shall do what I do, and do even greater things. So, what kind of work is the faith of Jesus Christ doing? The faith of Jesus Christ is restoring the glorious image of God. The image of God is restored in you. You work as God works, you act as God acts, and then signs and wonders follow you, and you become a divine being. The faith of Christ Jesus truly restores our entire lives to be like God.
The faith of Christ Jesus teaches how to live out a glorious life for God. What does Deuteronomy Chapter 5 talk about?
Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.(Deuteronomy 5:32-33)
This is the basic principle of living well, being blessed and enjoying long life. The most important principle here is honor. Brothers and sisters, you must begin to restore the glorious and honorable image of God in yourselves. If you enter a new company for an interview, speak with the honorable image of a child of the eternal God, and you are certain that you will become a member of this company, then you have restored the glorious image of God. However, never treat work as an idol, for we do not live to work. We live for God and for the Mingding Destiny God has given us, because we bear the glorious and honorable image of God. When you have an honorable mindset, you will no longer worship idols, because idols are nothing compared to our God who controls all things.
Do you know about the animal idol Pi Xiu? A classmate of mine had a wife who suffered from synovitis. She liked to play mahjong, and mahjong players like to put Pi Xiu in their pockets so they can win. But people do not know that whether you win or lose at mahjong, it cannot stop you from getting synovitis or cancer, nor can it prevent you from encountering disasters. Later, after I prayed for this sister for more than ten minutes, she was able to walk on the ground.
Today I want to tell our brothers and sisters how honorable you are. God has placed this honorable image within us to tell us that we are, in fact, very honorable in the spiritual realm. Whether you want to have an honorable image is your decision, but I am certain that I have the glorious image of God in me.
Even more wonderfully, God makes our name great in the spiritual realm. Once, when I was praying, I saw some visions in the spiritual realm. Many demons were talking about my name. They said, It's bad luck to run into him. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were once connected to the name of God; God is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Today I want to tell you, God is my God.
God is so honorable, and we humans are also so honorable. Never demean your own image. This is the key to not worshipping idols. Why can't we worship the dead? Because we are greater than the dead. We do not need to ask the dead for anything; we can only give them something. We cannot worship idols, because idols cannot give us anything either. We are greater than idols. Never say that I am a snake, a dragon, or a rabbit. We belong to Jesus. We have the honorable image of the eternal God within us, so we belong to God.
Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me, Thou Shalt Not Make Idols, Thou Shalt Not Take the Name of the Lord Thy God in Vain
First Commandment: Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me
Second Commandment: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; (Deuteronomy 5:8-9)
You must not worship anything as an idol, because if you worship idols, you will surely live miserably, and you cannot obtain the promise of that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, remember that if a person worships idols, he will definitely live miserably. This is what God declared:
And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. (Deuteronomy 8:19)
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. (Deuteronomy 32:39)
Third Commandment: Thou Shalt Not Take the Name of the Lord Thy God in Vain
Do you know what it means to not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain? People use the name of God lightly, do not honor the name of God, and swear by the name of the living God, which is taking the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Therefore, we need to have a cautious heart, be careful and prudent, and learn to keep and obey. We must not speak recklessly if we do not understand, and taking the name of God in vain is a very dangerous thing.
For the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. What is sin? It is the legal operation of evil spirits in these people. So why does God not allow people to take his name in vain? Because God wants people to be careful and not to be hearers only, but must read the Bible. Not reading the Bible is a very dangerous thing. Reading the Bible carefully can bring the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and no book can replace the Bible. Our church studies the Bible book by book, and our courses are intertwined with the Bible, like a cross, these become our scaffolding, and houses can be built.
Fourth Commandment: Remember the Sabbath Day, to Keep it Holy
Keeping the Sabbath is the fourth commandment. In the Old Testament, people kept Saturday, and in the New Testament, people keep the Lord's Day. In fact, I tell you it doesn't matter much, what matters is to set the time apart as holy. Everyone must know that the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. If we lose this spirit, it is fatal. The next ten commandments are for us to live and prosper, and that our days may be long, and to manifest God's glory in this world. If people forget the basic things, like the Pharisees, it will be miserable.
Today, one thing must be made clear: what is the original intention of the Bible? It is to let us set aside time to worship God, and worshiping God is the most important work of our lives. If a person does not attend meetings, he cannot live well, because he has forgotten that the most important thing for a person to live is rest. In fact, the Israelites never rested for a whole week. They worked for six days and kept the Sabbath day to worship God. To worship God, they also had to offer sacrifices, read God's word, and proclaim God's law. The Israelites never rested for 365 days a year. I once met a pastor who said that a Christian who never rests all year round will definitely be burned out. I have never rested either, because what I need is rest, not leisure. Sometimes I say some sarcastic words, people have plenty of time to rest when they are lying in a coffin, what we need when we are alive is rest, not leisure.
In fact, the most important concept for a person to live is rest. What is rest? It is God working with man, understand? It is right for people to spend time getting to know God. Six days a week, we work, and one day we come to the temple to worship God. So that we may live and prosper, and that our days may be long. People who set aside time to serve God never lose out. Today, our brothers and sisters must begin to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. The greatest commandment God has given us is Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might (Deuteronomy 6:5).
People easily make work their god. What does it mean to make work an idol? It means that you think you cannot live without work. What does it mean that you must not make work an idol? You must not think that you can only live by working hard. It is very tiring for people to think that they can only live by working. We must never make work an idol. The attitude is key. No matter how delayed, we must not delay worshiping our God, nor can we delay our Mingding Destiny and service in the Lord Jesus Christ. I think everyone may not understand, Because you can only live well by living according to God's word.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength, set aside time to serve God, and you will never lose out. People easily make work their god. The attitude of thinking that you can only live well by working is very bad. A person who trusts in God and sets aside time will still live well.
Those who follow God's will, God will preserve forever. To live out God's glory, to live and prosper. Read God's word, and live according to God's word. There is no way not to live well. Man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of God. People who serve God often not only look young but also are full of vitality. Live by the word of God, and you will surely be well.
Reading God's word is very important. Live out a life like an eagle, and cultivate long-term concepts, concepts of disaster, concepts of curses and blessings, and concepts of disease. Curses and blessings are related to diseases, and disasters and serious illnesses determine a person's destiny in life. Therefore, people must not be short-sighted.
Fifth Commandment: Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother
Be filial to your parents while they are alive. Honoring your parents is a blessing, and not honoring your parents is a very deep curse. Be strong and courageous, and be blessed by God. The faith of Jesus Christ far surpasses the Ten Commandments, and the Ten Commandments are the lowest standard. Do not live in a curse, read the Ten Commandments thoroughly, and be a Christian who pays the price, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you.
