【Bible Study】Genesis 10: Land, Languages, Clans, and Nations are Spiritual Matters

Bible Study: Genesis

Introduction

Hello everyone! Today, after reading Genesis Chapter 10, I don't know what it's talking about. There are so many unfamiliar names. I understand the characters, but I don't know who they are or what they are about. I don't know what they are supposed to do, what Moses is supposed to say, or what God wants us to do through this. It seems to be about Noah's descendants, but why is it recorded? You don't know him, and I don't know him. He doesn't know me, and he doesn't know you.

Today, I want to know one thing. We need to grasp a very important point: the Bible explains spiritual matters using spiritual words. If you can grasp the Bible and understand that God's words explain spiritual matters using spiritual words, then you won't see it as just who begot who, who established what nation, and who begot who and established another nation... It shouldn't be seen that way. We need to know that this is about explaining spiritual matters using spiritual words. This is actually something that the Doctrine of Destiny often talks about.

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. (1 Corinthians 2:13)

Paul said: God's words explain spiritual matters. Today, I want to bring everyone to look at the current situation with a spiritual perspective. When you look at today with a spiritual perspective, you'll see that it's similar to back then. The theme for today is "land, languages, clans, and nations are spiritual matters."

The most powerful statement in the Doctrine of Destiny is: Explain spiritual matters using spiritual words. If you can grasp spiritual matters, it's remarkable. In Genesis Chapter 1, Moses didn't know because he wasn't there. So how did he write it? He was on the mountain in the presence of God, and God told him. Did Moses know Noah? No, he didn't. Did Moses meet Abraham? He didn't meet Abraham either. The stories from Abraham onwards were passed down orally among the Israelites. But from Genesis Chapter 11 and before, it's something else. I guess God told Moses face to face, and when Moses came back down the mountain, he wrote Genesis Chapter 10. Who told him? God told him.

Why Moses Wrote This?

Why did God want to tell him this? Let's start with the first point: Why did Moses write this? Do you want to know? Why did Moses want to write this? Because Moses wanted the Israelites to see the history of humanity, he wanted the Israelites to learn some history. Through history as a mirror, when Moses led the Israelites into the wilderness, most of the people who were here had died, so he wanted the Israelites to learn history. I want to ask you: How do you and I look at history today? We look at it with a spiritual perspective. Looking at it with a spiritual perspective, you die while living. Although the country still exists later on, they are no longer there. That is to say, if you want to be used by God, you must understand human history. If you don't understand this aspect of human beings, your mind will become confused.

Moses wanted to do one thing with the Israelites: to completely destroy the people of Canaan. Do you think "Canaan" is a good word? Canaan is not a good word. Canaan is the son of Ham cursed by Noah. So the people who live in Canaan are the Sidonians, Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, and Girgashites. Moses wanted to lead the Israelites to kill all these people and then narrate this section, recounting all the nations in the world. But you may be puzzled, why did Moses really want the Israelites to understand and go in to kill and destroy everyone? I'm sure you have this confusion, and I have it too. Moses wrote this to let people know that the land, languages, clans, and nations are all spiritual matters, and who governs spiritual matters? God does. In other words, one tribe occupies this piece of land, and another tribe occupies that piece of land. A nation is established in one place, and another nation is established in another place. That is what God manages.

Therefore, it is very clear in the Bible that the borders between nations are determined by God. Is this determined by God or by humans? Ponder on that slowly. But from a human perspective, they are all established by heroic figures. But after all the fighting, it seems that it is not so powerful in the end, and they all end up in a miserable death.

Why did Moses write this? It is to let us know that the land, languages, clans, and nations are all spiritual matters, and God is in control. Did heroes create history, or did God create history? God created it. By the time of Israel, God wanted the Israelites to go in and take the land of Canaan and exterminate all these people.

What concept did it convey? God has already given that land to our ancestor Abraham. The people in that place have already reached the height of wickedness, and God has taken it away. We are going in to take the land that God has given us. Moses wrote "Genesis" and also wrote "Deuteronomy." It is not because you are good enough that this land was given to you. It is because the people in that place were bad enough, so that place was given to you.

Moses wrote this not because you have done well, but because Abraham did well. It is because God promised Abraham this land, and Abraham did something that pleased God. Everyone gradually understands that the Israelites should emulate Abraham, not these people. These people established nations based on land, clans, languages, and countries. If you establish a nation and it does not align with God's will, it is normal for God to destroy you. God raised the Israelites to exterminate the people of Canaan.

Before them, who were there? They exterminated those people today, and tomorrow those people exterminated these people. All of this is under God's control. It turns out that God is quite ruthless. The Doctrine of Destiny's understanding of God, seems to not conform to the popular theology of today: God is love. How does God love? Don't be confused by this. God keeps His covenant and shows loving kindness to those who love Him for a thousand generations. But if you hate God? God will punish your sins for three or four generations.

Do not think that God has changed. Even today, God has not changed. It is God who took the land that those people had in their hands and gave it to others. Do Christians need to obtain land? In fact, Christians do obtain land, but not in the same way. A person who lives by God will definitely have the land and resources given by God. Read the Bible carefully and see if it is like this. Is it fair? It is not fair. It is fair in the eyes of God, but unfair in the eyes of humans. Why did Moses write this? Let me tell you about geopolitics.

Geopolitic

You need to know that all these things are spiritual matters, and spiritual matters are governed by God. The spiritual realm governs earthly affairs, and the heavenly realm governs earthly affairs. You should understand geopolitics and have the opportunity to read books on geopolitics. What is geopolitics? It is about nations based on geographical location, land, dialects, clans, and states. If you don't understand geopolitics, you will be confused when you look at things.

There is a person who has done good research on geopolitics, and he is quite remarkable. His name is Henry Kissinger. Kissinger has studied China, geopolitics, and the various countries on Earth. He successfully predicted various wars, which were related to geopolitics because when people establish nations, it becomes a question of whose land belongs to whom, and conflicts arise.

There is another person, a friend of the Chinese people, Brzezinski, who is from Poland. He made a significant contribution to China's rise as a major power in this era. Geopolitics today is a spiritual matter. Why is it a spiritual matter? This Polish person had a deep-seated hatred for the Russians. So Brzezinski wrote these books and witnessed firsthand and even directed the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Later, Brzezinski successfully predicted many conflicts, including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Why? It is because he analyzed how people think and behave on Earth based on their logical systems. After analyzing their thought process, he predicted that Russia would definitely invade Ukraine. It is a sad world we live in. When Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, who signed the guarantee letter? Who provided assurance? It is quite troubling to put your safety in someone else's hands.

One is Russia, and the other is the United States. They said, "We guarantee your safety." Can Russia guarantee Ukraine's v? It's quite distressing. And then there is the United States guaranteeing Ukraine's safety, with the condition that Ukraine gives up its nuclear weapons. At that time, Ukraine was the third-largest nuclear power after the United States and Russia. The United States, Russia, and Ukraine had more nuclear weapons than China. After giving up their nuclear weapons, they ended up getting beaten. That's how the world works.

Why? Because people's minds are twisted. Brothers and sisters, don't get caught up in the doctrines of geopolitics. When you get caught up in the doctrines of geopolitics, it's based on human logic. Can anyone protect you better than God? Brothers and sisters, you must know that. Can the things that people say protect you? Forget about it! We should rely on God for protection.

Do you think being the President of the United States is an easy task? The Senate and the House of Representatives investigate you, and they can impeach you. Politics on this Earth is truly complex. As the saying goes, "When dogs bite each other, they end up with a mouthful of fur." It's all about the struggle for interests, pure nonsense. When we look at these things, after reading them, we should develop a habit. Are you truly trusting in God or in people?

From a spiritual perspective, geopolitics can successfully predict wars, but Brzezinski did not foresee China's rise. Our God governs the entire universe, and in this era, He has created numerous opportunities for China. The Chinese people may think that these opportunities seem coincidental, but in reality, it is God working with a marvelous purpose in the Chinese people of this generation.

Think carefully about it. Some things are quite coincidental. Once, I went to a place and met a pastor named Paul. That night, Pastor Paul couldn't sleep, so he sat in the living room, and I happened to be unable to sleep as well, so I sat there too. While we were chatting, Pastor Paul told me something that surprised me!

He said, "Pastor Liu, do you know that China implemented the one-child policy for 33 years? Do you know what the significance of those 33 years is? He said, "Jesus was crucified at the age of 33. If everyone is an only child, then aren't they all firstborns? The people of the only-child generation must turn to God." His words were quite insightful. All the firstborns belong to the Lord. Doesn't that mean China belongs to the Lord? I thought it was a good thing! God has such marvelous work in our China.

The age of suffering is 33! It's quite interesting! Jesus lived for 33 years. I asked, "What's the meaning behind this?" He said, "Let me tell you, if everyone is an only child, aren't they all firstborns? I said, "You're right! We're talking like this in the middle of the night, having a good conversation, aren't we? Then he said, "The people of the only-child generation must turn to God." I said, "Yes, the only-child generation is all firstborns, belonging to the Lord. Isn't that right? All firstborns belong to the Lord, so China belongs to the Lord."

I said, "This is a good thing. God has such marvelous work in our Chinese people, doesn't He?" I'm telling you, God is rising up the Chinese in this era. God wants to uplift the Chinese and serve Him. It would be wonderful if all of China turned to our God in this world of nations! It sounds powerful! Our God wants to bless our Chinese people in this era, and China will stand among the nations of the world. How great is that! Therefore, the firstborn belongs to God. Of course, this was said to the Israelites.

I'm saying, don't fall into the trap of geopolitics. It is a system based on human logic. No matter how good something may be, it cannot compare to God's protection. It cannot surpass God's protection, can it? The history of humanity is truly directed by God.

Human History is the History of Land, Languages, Clans, and Nations

Today, when people talk about Emperor Han Wu and Emperor Qin Shi Huang, and later the Qing Dynasty, which was ruled by the Manzu people instead of the Han ethnic group, they attribute the expansion of Chinese territory during the Qing Dynasty to their rule. Some may feel proud when they hear about China's recovery of Tibet and Taiwan. But in reality, there is nothing to be proud of.

If you feel proud, you might have fallen into a wrong concept called "hero," which refers to someone famous and mighty. The logic on Earth is a very complete logical system. Although human history is a history of land, clans, nations, and heroes, if you only see human logic through this history, it becomes troublesome. If, instead, you see that people live through this history, you will realize that China still exists, but Emperor Qianlong is no longer there, Emperor Yongzheng is also gone, and even Emperor Kangxi is no longer there. Ming Taizu, Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Chongba... they are all gone. It's truly sad! We thought the phrase "brave hunters in the presence of the Lord" is a compliment:

Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar. (Genesis 10:8-9)

But in fact, anyone who relies on swords and weapons for their survival is cursed. How do we know that? Because it is written later on. When Moses wrote this, he had already conceived the entire book of Genesis. You will find that violence is related to land on Earth. If I want to take over this land, you want to take over that land, I defeat you, and later I occupy that land. If you defeat me, you occupy that land. It seems like people take it quite seriously, right?

Moses wanted to tell the people of Israel: Today we are going to establish a new nation, we are going to build a new nation in the land of Canaan, not relying on human logic, not relying on swords, not relying on guns, not relying on horses, but on the Lord God to establish a nation. Isn't that right?

Therefore, brothers and sisters, you should know that human history is like this, but what can you deduce from reading history? Whether you exist or not, what does it have to do with you? What does it have to do with Emperor Han Wu or Emperor Qin Shi Huang? It's quite tragic! In one's lifetime, they engage in wars and later realize that it's all vanity. Wouldn't it be better if they had realized the emptiness earlier? What's the significance? It's all a human logical system. The human logical system worships heroes, and that's the confusion of "hero."

The Confusion of "Heroes"

And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood... Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. (Genesis 7:17,21-23)

During Noah's time, while the floodwaters were rising, Shem was actually still alive. The people who personally experienced the flood were still alive as well. This confusion about the "heroes" arises from people's understanding of the flood. Oh, the perplexity of the "heroes"! Therefore, when it was written during the time of Moses, this Ninglu was more famous than Noah! Ninglu was the leader of the heroes, a brave hunter in the presence of the Lord. Do you think it was praising him or speaking highly of him? Or was it belittling him? Actually, this is a human confusion, the confusion people have about the "heroes."

Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” (Genesis 10:8-9)

People overlaid the logic of this worldly system with the name of the Lord. He was a mighty hunter in the presence of the Lord, this provoke the anger of the Lord. However, when the people of that generation spoke these words, it was not meant as a belittlement! In that generation, people think they were extraordinary. If you carefully read history, the stories of the Sui and Tang Dynasties are all about heroes, and we all think they are remarkable.

Wow, a mighty hunter in the presence of the Lord. We are filled with confusion by this. Then we start to envy and pursue these things. Pursuing these things, the result becomes very difficult; it's hard to survive relying on swords and knives. Otherwise, try it today. Study in school, oh! I want to have a high grade, but it's not something you can just want and achieve. After trying, you end up being the worst student. People admire these things, and when children come home, they ask, "Why didn't you do as well on the exam as your classmate?"

Sometimes colleagues work together, and both their children are together. Then their child gets first place, while yours gets last place. You might say, "Why did they get first place, and why are you last?"The confusion brought by the "heroes" is numerous. Today, we need to make a decision in our lives, especially if we are not really capable but still want to succeed.

You are pursuing spiritual matters, not worldly matters. You see through everything in this world. So, today, brothers and sisters, know that in Noah's time, God scattered people all over the earth. The scattering of people all over the earth coincidentally deviated in Chapter 11.

These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.(Genesis 10:32)

Sometimes, when writing a book, you have to deviate a bit. When did they scatter all over the earth? It was during the time of "Babel." This chapter discusses the nations on the earth based on the foundation of Chapter 11, where they scattered all over the earth.

And after he became the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters. (Genesis 11:9)

The scattering of people all over the earth was done by God. What about the Antichrist's actions? One day, you will see that the whole world becomes a unified country, which will be the Antichrist's kingdom. So, during the time of the Tower of Babel, it meant that the Antichrist wanted to unify the whole world, so that the world would be completely under the control of the devil. Now, you all understand that when the whole world is unified in the Antichrist, the whole world is in the hands of the Antichrist. Is the Antichrist an individual or a spirit? The Antichrist is a spirit; don't think that the Antichrist is an individual. Then two prophets will be killed, and they will be laid in the streets. Then the breath of life will enter them, and they will be resurrected and ascend to heaven, and Jesus Christ will come again for the second time. After that, many Christians will be raptured, and then comes the "666," the mark of the devil. At that time, it will be almost impossible to survive. This is the matter of scattering people all over the earth. This is the confusion brought by heroes because heroes always want to unify the whole world.

God Will See If There are Those who Seek and Those who Understand

On the earth, there are so many nations, so many thrones. Each throne becomes a snare, and it's quite difficult and not easy to handle. Everyone thinks being a king is great, but actually being a king is not easy. As a king, you have to bear the responsibility of the entire nation. God wants to see if there are seekers, if there are those who understand. When you look at these things, you will be deeply confused, wondering: What is the meaning of all this? It doesn't have much meaning. God is just looking for seekers. How do I know this? Because by the time we reach Chapter 12, generations have passed, until Abraham, there is finally a seeker. Everyone is trapped by the logic system of this world and the pride of heroes. Heroes are proud, and those who are not heroes want to marry heroes.

Today, Chapter 10 is about the land, languages, nations, and clans, and they are all spiritual matters. Why are these spiritual matters? Because these spiritual matters are under God's control. People think they can rely on their own swords to live and compete with God, but they can't contend with God! So, borders are set by God, but with these borders, one moment one person claims a land, and another moment another person claims another land.

Even someone as powerful as Hitler ended up dying miserably. What you say doesn't count, heroes' words don't count, and even nations' words don't count. So, who counts? God's words count. That's why God looks for seekers, those who understand. After four hundred years, there was Abraham who sought God. To seek God, you must see through everything in the world.

If you seek God, God will definitely give you this land. If you love God, God will give you the land. God is not a God who is aloof from the world because He governs the boundaries of this earth. You should know that those who seek God lack nothing.

That's all for today's Chapter 10. Have I confused you? Let me add one more thing. Start learning and acquiring knowledge because ignorance is a very frightening thing. If people don't understand things with knowledge, they might think Ning Lu is good. But in the end, even if you don't become like Ning Lu, you will still be cursed! Don't be ignorant. Today, come out of ignorance.

May God bless you all!
