【Bible Study】Genesis 04: You Shall Overcome Sin

Bible Study: Genesis

Introduction

Hello everyone! Today we are going to study the fourth chapter of Genesis. Today, the most crucial word in the Doctrine of Destiny is called "victory." Whether we are victorious or saved, it is called victory.

After rethinking it, I think I have found a clearer topic than before: "You shall overcome sin," but if you can't control it, it's your bad luck. If you can, congratulations because you are a victorious person.

We think deeply about overcoming sin. Moses is trying to tell us victory! God is trying to tell us victory too! The Doctrine of Destiny also talks about victory. For example, to do healing and deliverance is to fight against demons, which means to cast out demons from people, not by any anointing, gift, or other things, but by victory.

Before, when Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, we would think, "It's over because our father and mother ate the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. But actually, God still wants us to be victorious. Today, the story of Abel and Cain clearly shows us what it means to be victorious and not to be victorious.

When Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, "sin" came in. From then on, the child born was naturally possessed by a demon, born as a child of the flesh. Today we need to have a clear understanding of this "sin," which is something a living person is born with naturally. This "sin" will come in legally, live in the child, and then begin their journey.

The purpose of a person's life is to overcome this "sin" and subdue it. This "sin" is at your door, watching you every day, and is with you every day, and there are more people who are overpowered by sin than people who are overcome by it. When we read the Bible and talk about Noah's ark, we will find that "sin" has conquered the whole world, leaving only Noah's family. This sin is so powerful that you can't isolate it, even if you want to. You are a "sin". Therefore, you can either subdue sin or be subdued by sin. All the tragedies and problems in this world today are related to sin, failure, and victory.

Among the people I have ministered to in the past, there are many who have fallen under this "sin." Even after experiencing God and miracles many times, they were still defeated and even killed by this "sin." **The "sin" we are talking about is demons. The Doctrine of Destiny is a victory theology, a theology of sin subjugation. The sin of the flesh and the flesh are closely related, and "sin" is a very powerful thing. God has opened up a way of victory for us. Now, let's talk about the second point, knowing the nature of sin.

Knowing the Essence of Sin

What is the essence of sin? It will make you feel bad inside, and it has characteristics. It is a very clever thing. This sin knows how to play with you. This "sin" is so powerful that it can make people struggle. If you are a carnal person with a carnal logic system, with the "sin" that you were born with, you have to be victorious. The essence of this sin is actually disobeying the word of God. Brothers and sisters, we need to know that victory is to choose to walk according to God's word instead of following our own logical system that sounds very reasonable, which is "sin". What if I want to walk according to God's word, but I can't? God will help you if you are willing.

A person's reaction to being overpowered by sin is anger. A person's reaction to being overcome by sin is to not be angry even when he should be angry. But don't think that it is okay to not be angry on the outside, because you are angry on the inside, and you will end up with cancer. After a person is subdued by sin, you will see that his temper will be bad.

Moses, who wrote the book of Genesis, was once angry with the Israelites that he smashed the water out with a stick, and as a result, God did not allow him to enter the land of Canaan, so this sin is very powerful. The way sin works are that it leads people to pursue their own name, and then to pursue their own righteousness. Then, it also leads man to do a whole lot of corrupt things. For example, Cain killed Abel, and it didn't solve any problem. Nowadays, we will find ourselves doing a lot of things that are not solving the problem.

For example, Cain killed Abel. In fact, what problem did he solve? He didn't solve the problem either.

In this day and age, we find ourselves doing a lot of things that are not solving the problem. For example, if a child is studying in school, and he sees that others are taking first place and he is taking second place, he will gnash his teeth with hatred, especially in parent-teacher conferences, and the first place will get more honours. In fact, there is nothing wrong with being first and second, it's just that it's hard work inside, and then you expect people to die. Just like Abel and Cain, it was the same.

Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, "With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man. Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time, Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favour on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering, he did not look with favour. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let’s go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. (Genesis 4:1-8 )

Cain killed Abel because his offering was not pleasing to God, but instead of solving the problem, the curse grew deeper. We need to know that the way "sin" works are that we often feel that we are right, so we get angry. Therefore, the "pursuit of one's own righteousness" is a powerful thing, and in the end, it creates a lot of things that corrupt people, which is the essence of knowing sin.

And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lordlooked with favour on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favour. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it. (Genesis 4:4-7)

Here, it specifically talked about "do and do not do what is right". It is also mentioned that "The Lord looked with favour on Abel and his offering, but not on Cain and his offering", meaning that God must first look with favour on the man before favour on his offering. But in fact, it is not the offering that matters, but the person and what is in his heart that matters. What Cain had in his heart was that "I had to prove myself to God," and he was after his own righteousness and his own name.

We must learn to know what kind of people always provoke God's anger. Those are the ones who always want to prove themselves. If you come up and try to destroy their confidence, they will become angry. Later, I found that when facing such a person, you have to let him know that he is not even qualified to be angry.

Although God had already warned him, "sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." he opened the door and saw that there was nothing there. But in fact, God is saying that beware of the sin at the door of his heart, sin came into his heart and led him against God. He went and did a stupid thing that would not solve the problem, and he ended up killing his brother Abel.

I'm thinking that Cain didn't win, he didn't subdue the demon, instead, the demon subdued Cain. Sometimes, it is better to die than to live, just as Abel died but lived happily and without pain. On the contrary, Cain was defeated by sin, and although he lived, he lived in pain because he killed Abel.

We should know that farming is actually more economically valuable than animal husbandry and Aquaculture, and more advanced in science and technology because agriculture is just using a seed to plant into the ground, and then inventing some tools to make the crops grow, which is far more profitable than animal husbandry. People can plant cotton to produce clothes or rice to produce food, just like China's current Beidahuang became the breadbasket of China's livelihood. So Cain's industry was actually very high end than Abel's animal husbandry, but as a result, Cain was not pleased by God, and he dared to lose his temper in front of God. In the end, he was defeated by sin and lived in pain.

Today we are not interested in Cain because it would be a problem to spend our lives studying 10,000 wrong ways of life and the wrong teachings of the church. The key is to study how to make ourselves right and how to live in a way that pleases God.

The Subduing of Sin Vegins With Tithing

The subduing of sin begins with tithing. When I studied Cain before, I was only able to conclude that he was defeated by sin because his emotional intelligence was too low, but today I want you to focus on how to defeat and subdue sin. God was pleased with Abel because he was pleased with Abel as a person, just like he was with Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, and Joseph. As long as God is pleased with certain people, he is pleased with whatever offering they offer, and we can see this very clearly in the Bible.

It is like if you like a child and he brings you candy, you will be happy, but if a child you hate comes and gives you something else, whatever it is, you will feel very annoyed. So we really need to figure out why God liked Abel, and to subdue sin, we start with tithing.

During that year, God could also speak directly to Abel and Cain, so there was a very obvious characteristic in Abel, he was thinking in his heart, "My father and mother, Adam and Eve, have sinned against God by eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, so I cannot disobey God today. The purpose of my life is to obey God's words, and not disobey God's word.  My goal is to give all I have to my God.

We should know that God was pleased with Abel because he had the right ideas in his heart, so we should do our best to imitate these people. So the Doctrine of Destiny wants to understand what the right path to God is.

Abel offered the best firstborn sheep to God, and the firstborn is usually the strongest. He didn't just offer the best; he offered the best to God again and again. As soon as the ewe gave birth to a firstborn, he offered it. We can clearly see the way people think through the offering.

I would like to tell you that if you do tithing but think like Cain, always trying to prove yourself, and the logic system in your heart is not right, you will still be poor. So we have to adjust ourselves inside. The one who has tithed the most is David, and what David said about giving is not quite the same as what our brothers and sisters are thinking.

"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. (1 Chronicles 29:14)

Here David is talking about how gracious it is that he and God's people can tithe. And if we are talking about tithing, some people will say, "I raise all the pastors of the church; I raise the church." Then, it will be trouble, and you will become Cain. That's why the tithing is the beginning of victory or not victory.

The reason why the offering is not pleasing to God is because of the not-victorious attitude and logic system. That's why tithing sifts a lot of people out.

Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." (Genesis 4:6-7)

God told him the truth, but he could not listen to it, and when he became angry, he was badly tortured by demons. He lived his whole life in a state of mental illness. If you know that you live by God, then you are no longer on your own. If you feel that you are living by yourself and supporting God, then your attitude will not be good. Brothers and sisters, the attitude of our devotion today has to be readjusted. If you are one who trusts God, then do the tithing; if not, don't do it.

When you leave in the future, you can take your tithe with you. The church does not live by your tithing but by God's presence. It is difficult for those who come to us not to be blessed.

There is a group of people in this place who have overcome their sins. The most important thing for our church is to defeat sin and the flesh. I'll now give you a quick refresher on the four most fundamental levels of ministering: the first is healing and deliverance. Without dealing with the flesh, in the end, healing and deliverance are useless. The second is dealing with the flesh, which is the same logical system that Cain has. The third is to speak the Word of God. The fourth is the implementation of the word of God.** Dealing with the flesh is dealing with the attitude of a human being. The subduing of sin begins with the tithe, and the attitude toward tithing must be adjusted first.

Tithing has been one of the best decisions I've made in recent years. Later on, I made my fortune by pleasing God. So, I am not a poor person, and no one likes to be poor. Abraham was not poor, nor were Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Daniel, Nehemiah, or David. Brothers and sisters, we must remember that God is a rich God, and tithing to God is a great grace!

Solve the Confusions in Us

Chapter 4 brings a few confusions, and if you don't solve the confusions, you will load with the logical system of Cain. Let's talk about these confusions. For example, Cain was cursed and still built a city, and named it after his child.

Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. (Genesis 4:17)

Some people think Cain is so awesome and want to be like him. Then I can only wish him good luck. Not only that, Cain's descendants include many grandfathers of industry, commerce, science, technology, art, entertainment, and culture, all of whom were pioneers of their industries at that time. Some people were envious and wanted to be such people too. Others even envied that Lamech could marry two wives.

Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes. Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah. (Genesis 4:19-22)

If Cain were still alive today, his descendants would be very good people in industry, commerce, science, technology, and the military industry. Do people find it confusing? But the problem is that if you have these things in you, you are like Cain. Climbing to the top of the industry, that is by hook or by crook. In those days, it was by "killing," and you had to step on the bones to climb up, so there is a very deep curse.

Some people say, "Why didn't God help Abel?" We must clear up these misunderstandings because God sees life and death in eternity while we see them in this life. Abel was killed in much the same way that he died of old age. Jesus was also killed and crucified, and people need to understand why God did it. Whether it was Abel or Jesus or Joseph or Jacob, they all took the same approach to solving the problem in God's way. If we look for the word "kill" in Genesis chapter 4,

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let’s go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. (Genesis 4:8)

Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." But the Lord said to him, "Not so ; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. (Genesis 4:14-15)

Cain said to the Lord, "My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." But the Lord said to him, "Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. (Genesis 4:23-25)

The word "kill" appears a lot in this chapter because everyone is doing things by their abilities. Can a power-based approach glorify God? No.

There are many children among us who are studying in school and are constantly being crushed, can this be victorious? Because grades are important, they have to pursue it. The trend toward ability-based schools has corrupted a lot of children. The problem in the world is that people admire the strongest person, but to be a strong man is to be an enemy of God, and if you are an enemy of God, God can make your life worse than death, and sometimes you can't die even if you want to.

the Essence of Life

To overcome sin is to recognize the essence of life. Without overcoming, there is no way to live life as it should be. We must know that to know the essence of life is to remove the confusion in us. If you stand in eternity and see the reward and punishment, your perception will be completely changed. Once you subdue sin, it will be very good because God is with you when you subdue sin. If you don't subdue sin, you will become like Cain or Lamech and end up being subdued by sin and becoming like a psychopath. Although you seem to be a very powerful person, in fact, being in a state of power is very hard.

Speaking of which, it is interesting to know whether it is better to rely on God or on this logical system of Cain, and whether it is better to defeat sin or be defeated by it. Today we are talking about knowing the essence of life and then looking at the path to victory that God has prepared for us. You have to know one thing: once people die, they are dragged to a place where they are either grilling lamb kebabs or sausages every day, or maybe making bacon, and you are the bacon that is hanging, or you are the sausage. How would you feel if you saw this in eternity? It is not a good thing, but people do not know that. If people live because of living, then it is meaningless. You have to recognize that the essence of life is "peace and joy in the Holy Spirit!"

What do you think of Abel? Abel was not a very wise man. He was herding sheep every day, and then suddenly one day he was killed. He lived a joyful life until the day he was killed, and he was killed by his brother, Cain. Do you think Cain or Abel lived a good life? Actually, Abel lived a good life. God did not kill Cain and Lamech later because he put a mark on them.

But the Lord said to him, "Not so ; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. (Genesis 4: 15)

This is like medicine for mental illness. God did this because he was waiting for Cain to repent, but after hundreds of years, he was still Cain.

You have to recognize the essence of life: life is meaningless, and it is the same when you die at a certain age.

One of our sisters told me today that her father got cancer at her age and barely lived to be forty before he died. Her father died because he took things in this world too seriously.

Can you recognize the essence of life? If people live and die, then it is the same if they live until they die at 30, 40, or 50 years old. Some people feel different, but they can't tell what's different. Our Jesus lived until he was crucified at the age of 33, and then God raised him from the dead to sit at the right hand of God the Father.

God has Prepared a Victorious Path for Us

Do you want to know where this road to victory is?  I must tell you that the way to victory is to call on the name of God. Do not use your own name. Through the name of Jesus Christ, we can be victorious and be saved. Today we can rely on Jesus Christ, who willingly went to the cross and subdued sin.

If you and I follow the example of Jesus Christ and walk in the way he walked and subdued sin, we can live in peace, joy, and prosperity all our days. You can call on the name of God, and the name of God will be good. Start living a God-centered life, and stop pursuing your own name. Stop trying to prove whether you have talent or not.

Today, a brother shared with me a very good point, in fact, people should live a good life for themselves, not need to compare themselves with others, and solve their own problems. So today, I want to tell you to rely on God for everything, and to stop living for this life so you can control this sin and this demon. It makes no difference whether Adam and Eve or we ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; with Jesus Christ, we can overcome because we can live in eternal life. Start living a God-centered life, and you will definitely become emotionally stable.

I read about many Bible characters: Jacob went to his uncle Laban's house to herd sheep, and Laban deducted his wages ten times, but he was not emotional because he didn't live for that. If your boss docked your pay ten times, even once, you would be jumping up and down. I came to the conclusion that the way we react to things is called victory.

When faced with something, your reaction determines whether you are victorious or not. Today, brothers and sisters need to know what is the reaction when facing things. Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, and his reaction was very healthy. God has prepared a path for you to be victorious, and you need to overcome this sin and be a victorious person. If you are a victorious person, many problems will be solved.

Today, we emphasize that you have to subdue your sins, and if you cannot subdue your sins, your life will be a tragedy. God has already prepared you to be victorious. Start withdrawing the victory that God has prepared for you. Otherwise, one day, you will regret it!

May Lord bless you all!
