Introduction
Good day to all. This year, I intend to guide everyone towards becoming proactive learners, as opposed to passive learners. Today marks the first of a seven-part series. There will be two sessions tomorrow, another two the day after, concluding in about three to four days. These recordings will be transcribed, and you can access them online. Later, I will establish a proactive learning guidance hotline, where your pastors will forward your questions, and we will address your concerns. Should you all experience a 20% growth in knowledge and wisdom this year, your financial income will also increase by 10% to 20%. If you grow by 50%, your income will correspondingly increase by 50%. God bestows wealth according to your abilities. So, today, we will discuss the first part of becoming a proactive learner, titled Proactive Learning is Key. Please write this down, especially emphasizing and bolding the word proactive.
In my family, my mother bore several children, each unique, which is quite interesting. Individuals like myself are rather fortunate, learning readily from a young age. When asked how I learned, I cannot provide a definitive answer. It is similar to what I am sharing today about becoming a proactive learner, which took me many days to comprehend clearly. Explaining it to everyone is challenging. For instance, my younger brother, I am uncertain if he is online now. If he is, I apologize for using his experiences as an example. My younger brother did not excel in school, yet he is a highly intelligent individual. Thankfully, I am not speaking ill of him. He later became an electrician. This Mr. Liu is renowned in the area, a highly skilled electrician.
I was unaware of my younger brother's capabilities at the time. One day, he visited my rented apartment, where the electricity in one room would frequently trip, which was quite frustrating. We had consulted the property management and electricians, but after much effort, the issue remained unresolved. My younger brother fixed it in under ten minutes. I could not help but commend him for his competence. This incident provided me with a significant insight. It was not that my younger brother was unintelligent; he simply did not excel in academics but thrived as an electrician because he was proactively learning that trade. Sitting in class, listening to the teacher, he would become lost after five minutes, unable to grasp the content. One learns poorly in class through passive learning, but one excels as an electrician through proactive learning.
I. Proactive Learning is Key
Therefore, can everyone understand that proactive learning is key? If your academic performance is lacking, do not believe your teacher if they tell you that you are unintelligent. Recently, we encountered a teenager whom the teacher labeled as having learning disabilities. His father, a Shenzhen University graduate, relentlessly tutored him. When I intervened, I scolded the father, questioning the effectiveness of such teaching. That is because it is passive learning. The teacher imparts a wealth of knowledge, leaving the child bewildered, unaware of the purpose or necessity of learning it. Later, I advised him to engage his child in hands-on activities. The father, who had two sons, was very grateful. He nearly ruined his child, almost convinced that he was unintelligent.
My point is that attending class is often a passive learning method. Do not assume that I, as an academic achiever, have attained my knowledge solely through attending classes. I am not a passive learner. People were unaware of my proactive learning, wondering why I slept in class but stayed up at night, yet still performed well academically. They did not know that I studied at night and on weekends, all on my own initiative. As for why one becomes a proactive learner, do not ask me; we will not address that question now. First, we must establish that proactive learning is key. Later, I concluded that attending class is a passive learning method, a teaching approach that has harmed many. During those days, we would turn off the lights and go to bed by 8 or 9 p.m., but I would secretly study until midnight. My mother would urge me to stop, concerned that I would exhaust myself. It was not a problem; I would catch up on sleep during class, deceiving many. My mother would even get up to make me egg custard and pour me a glass of milk, which is why I have a close relationship with her.
My learning style is inherently proactive, which has been a great grace to me. I do not know if outsiders can understand the term grace, meaning it is a good thing. After graduating from high school, I was admitted to a prestigious university, where my classmates were top students from across the country, all highly capable individuals. The educational standards in Northeast China were lacking, and upon entering, I found that my scores were relatively low. Those from educationally advanced provinces, such as Shandong and Hubei, scored several dozen points higher than I did. Later, I discovered that although my entrance examination scores were not exceptional, I seemed to learn with greater ease. Not only did I learn easily, but my learning ability was strong. My grades were good, and I was not particularly tired. In university, everyone was in their teens or early twenties, and comparisons of grades were inevitable, yet many people's scores did not surpass mine.
I observed that I, too, possessed two ears and two nostrils, and my nostrils undoubtedly faced downwards, with no discernible differences from others. Why was this the case? The reason is simple: I gained admission to that university through proactive learning, whereas they had drilled through massive test practices. The teachers taught well and were highly accurate in predicting exam questions, but when it came to relying on one's own abilities, proactive learning was essential. Therefore, learning methods are of utmost importance. Subsequently, I cultivated a habit of proactive learning, which became a crucial factor in my competitiveness in the job market and in my career.
Last night, I could not sleep, so I opened Zheng Linghui's book, China Venture Capital Map. Recently, I have been studying venture capital, researching what people are investing in. It is important to recognize that these venture capital professionals are highly skilled and insightful, as they are adept at identifying future trends. I opened the education section and read the discussion on the education industry and future development trends. Here, I will slightly flatter myself; please do not accuse me of being boastful. I discovered that his views on education and the things he described were what I am currently doing. The things I am doing are remarkable because I have been doing them for decades. Zheng Linghui writes that the current education system has standardized the transmission of knowledge. Industrialized mass production is also standardized, producing items in batches. However, the education industry deals with individuals, not screws. Regardless of whether students understand, they are uniformly classified into grades one and two. The education of individuals should not be taught using a production line approach, irrespective of the child. The focus is primarily on the transmission of knowledge and skills.
Zheng Linghui stated that in the future, attention will certainly be paid to the four C's. If people do not understand a bit of English, they will be confused when the four C's are mentioned. Do not panic; I will explain them to you. The first C is Critical Thinking. I do not agree with translating it as critical, but it is used for now. The second C is Communication skills, the third C is Cooperation, and the fourth C is Creative Problem Solving. These four C's will be highly valued in the future market because in the future of education, the value of academic qualifications will diminish; half of the population now attends university and possesses a degree. With degrees becoming commonplace, academic qualifications lose their value, and individual personalities begin to emerge. If you cultivate a personality from a young age, and that personality yields results, you will be successful when seeking employment. We will discuss this further later.
A significant contradiction arises between traditional education and the demands of future jobs. Today, I can tell you that with the advent of artificial intelligence, the current traditional education system will collapse in the future. If many people realize that holding a degree is useless and does not lead to financial gain, they will cease to pursue education, and those schools will fail. The teachers in those schools will become unemployed and be reduced to wearing yellow vests as delivery workers. Therefore, the contradiction between traditional education and the demands of future positions is increasingly prominent. To give you a striking example, I know someone who sent his child abroad, starting from the first year of junior high school. After many years, the child failed to obtain a diploma and simply wasted time overseas. Sending children abroad often results in wasted time rather than learning. We cannot outsource education. This father brought his child to me, and it was very difficult to convince him. Sending his child abroad to study cost at least 1.2 million RMB, but the child returned with nothing to show for it. Now, the child is almost thirty, and soon to be thirty-five, which is quite distressing.
At the time, I advised him not to spend another 600,000 RMB sending his child to Australia for something useless. He finally listened to me and had his child start working. By forcing the child to learn about their work, he often called me for advice, and I tutored him. Currently, he is self-sufficient without any problems, earning a normal salary of 100,000 to 200,000 RMB per year. There are countless examples of children who spent hundreds of thousands of RMB studying abroad and ended up achieving nothing. This is a classic example of passive learning, where attendance in class is mistaken for learning. When some mothers see their children playing on their phones at home, they send them to tutoring schools, where the children daydream, wasting money and undermining their confidence. Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must thoroughly understand this. Listen to me because I am an expert.
Future education will undergo reform, and we are at the forefront of this reform. Today, I am sharing the concept of proactive learning with everyone. I may not be able to completely transform you into proactive learners immediately, but the idea of proactive learning will begin to take root in your minds. Many people are unaware of the purpose of attending school. When asked, most do not know. If you carefully consider and clarify this matter, attending school is for future livelihood. If attending school does not lead to future livelihood, would you still attend?
People assume that attending school will lead to future livelihood. Of course, in our era, only 3% could attend university; those who did were exceptional and had no problem finding employment. Now, 50% attend university, including those with poor academic performance, which diminishes the value of academic qualifications. Today, we must begin to promote proactive learning. Why did I found the hands-on laboratory? Because hands-on activities promote proactivity. For example, consider electricians or construction workers. They may not excel in school, but learning these skills is not a problem. We must understand this thoroughly. If one cannot make a living after completing middle school, and cannot make a living after completing university, it would be better to start making a living after completing middle school. From a financial perspective, the time invested translates into the cost of food, drink, and consumption. Each year, people spend money. The sooner one enters the workforce and engages in proactive learning, the sooner one escapes the passive environment, and the better.
Currently, some parents who send their children to study abroad pray in their hearts, God, please do not let my son return with another boy, or let my daughter return with another girl. I cannot bear it. Over the next two to three days, I will instill in you the concept of proactive learning. I have divided proactive learning into several sessions. Today, we discussed that proactive learning is key. Has this concept been internalized? If a child is struggling academically, making them a proactive learner will certainly help. In fact, my idea is that the sooner one starts making a living, the better. Do not wander around until you are in your thirties before thinking about making a living, only to find that you are incapable. This leads to frustration and emotional distress.
This series on proactive learning has several lectures. The first is that proactive learning is key. The second is the method of proactive learning; I will definitely tell you how to do it, not just engage in armchair theorizing, all talk and no action. I want to teach you the methods of proactive learning. The third lecture is about the habit of proactive learning. Many people do not have the habit of proactive learning and just want to listen to lectures from the get-go. The fourth is the proactive learning personality. If you develop this personality, you will be formidable. The fifth is how to proactively use various resources, and the sixth is to proactively abstract, summarize, induct, and organize. These four words together are called learning. It's not that after you've studied, it looks like you've read something or written some notes, and that's called learning. Only proactive abstraction, summarization, induction, and organization are true learning. The seventh is to become someone who enjoys solving problems. That is, the reason for proactively learning is to solve problems. Today, I want to give such an overall introduction.
II. Methods of Proactive Learning
If you practice the method I teach, you will definitely be formidable, and earning money will definitely not be a problem. Don't think you are stupid. People are stupid because they don't have the habit, method, and personality of proactive learning and are very passive. Today, I must tell you this method of proactive learning. I was very fortunate to be a senior manager at a university in Singapore when it was just established, becoming the head of the information management department. At that time, I was very passionate about education and felt that being a teacher in front of a whiteboard or blackboard, writing and speaking, was very dashing. Actually, it's not about being dashing, but it felt good. Although I entered the university as an administrator, the school had a requirement that regardless of your administrative level, you had to go to the front line to lead students. I have supervised graduation projects and taught a course called Critical Thinking or Problem-Based Learning.
While working, I met an education expert, the vice president of the university in charge of education. We had a good relationship and often ate and discussed work together. He invented a very practical problem-solving PBL, which is the problem-solving teaching method mentioned above. That is, solve a problem every day. If a child goes to school for a hundred days, they will solve a hundred problems. Every day, let them find information with questions, digest the information, and then solve the problem. I was very fortunate to be involved in it and later found it to be a very clever approach. Specifically, students are divided into groups, each group of five people receiving a problem. They have to fill out a form called MFT, which is a very simple template. It asks if you know the problem? What do you need to know to solve the problem? You have to figure this out first. What are the knowns and unknowns, and what else should you know? Then everyone goes to find information and study. After each person finds the information, it is summarized, and the teacher provides guidance on the information, picking out the correct and eliminating the incorrect. Then they start to digest the correct information and start solving their problems.
Because everyone has to go on stage to talk about their problem every day, it can only be a small class, and each team has to take turns to speak. The interesting thing is that people have to know what learning is. That is, to solve a problem, there are definitely known and unknown parts. If you see that only 20% of the problem is unknown, then learning the unknown 20% will solve the problem. If you only know 20% and don't know 80%, you have to spend more time learning. Of course, if you don't know 100%, then forget it for now.
Therefore, our correct learning method must be from simple to complex. That is, you must know at least 30% to 40%. If you are a confident, formidable, and very resilient person, you can do something even if you don't know 80%. However, if you know 50% and learn the remaining 50%, that is learning. It's like your circle expands a little, and then you make another circle, which expands it again. This learning method is very operational. Later, I found that many people's learning methods are wrong. They specifically look for things they can't do, and as a result, they keep failing. Moreover, they don't want to know what they don't know, nor do they want to understand what they should learn to solve the problem. They just want to solve the problem directly. For example, someone wants to make money and wants people to give them money as soon as they meet them. This treats people like idiots. Will they give it to you? Unless you hold a knife and force them to hand over the money.
This PBL has had a profound impact on me, and MFT has also had a profound impact on me. Of course, the MFT template was not taught to me by the former associate professor. When I was young, I did it this way. When I encountered a problem, I first sorted out what I knew and didn't know, and then looked for information and studied how to do it. Gradually, I developed a habit of proactive learning. For example, finding information, digesting the information, and observing how people do it are all my methods of proactive learning. Everyone must not think that knowledge is taught by teachers. In fact, knowledge is learned by oneself. The master leads you in, but the practice depends on the individual. So that's why I was able to rise quickly in the workplace, although there may be other factors.
I apply proactive learning in various areas. Once, my mother said she would make dumplings for me, but when I looked, I was making them faster than her. Actually, it wasn't much faster, about a tie. But my mother found it strange and kept asking me when I learned to make dumplings. Actually, I watched her make them before and wondered how she made them. Later, I tried to make one myself, but a lot of the filling was outside. That wasn't a dumpling; it was a pizza. So I adjusted, observed again, and made it again. This uses the ears, eyes, brain, and mouth together. This is called proactive learning. After making a few like this, I learned it and made it well. Because I used the method of proactive learning, the operation of making dumplings is just adjusting my understanding of making dumplings. Therefore, proactive learning has methods, and I will give a separate lecture in the future, giving more detailed examples of what the methods of proactive learning should be like.
III. The Habit of Proactive Learning
This is a refinement of my past methods of proactive learning. As for why I did this from the beginning, I can't answer or explain it. I can only say that it was destined for me to do it this way from the start. Some people are born unable to learn, so you can only say they are unlucky. But today, after I abstract, summarize, induct, and organize it and tell you, it's your business if you still don't do it. If you encounter difficulties in the process of doing it, I can help you. The habit of proactive learning is relative to passive learning. Some people just want to be taught when they learn. In fact, I really want to break the habit of lecturing, which is why I want to build a counseling hotline.
Lecturing is just giving you a concept, and it ends after you listen. If you listen to the same thing every day, you're done. How to change from a passive learning habit to a proactive learning habit. Remember, wanting to listen to lectures is a passive habit. In fact, even today, many parents think that sending their children to school to listen to lectures is learning, and they don't know what real learning is. This is a huge misunderstanding. Learning is your constant digestion, understanding, and active exploration of the cognition of things, as well as how to use resources. I will gradually teach you.
This habit is really not difficult to change. The difficulty lies in whether you want to change it. People want to listen to lectures because they are impatient and want people to tell them the answers quickly, and then they memorize the answers but learn nothing, only learning a bunch of garbage. So it's bad when people rely on going to class when they want to learn something. There are not many people who can proactively learn because they want to get results quickly, and proactive learning is very hard, and the process seems slow, but it is very effective. It is real learning, and what you learn is your own. Today, we have to overcome impatience and fear of difficulty, change bad habits, and cultivate good habits. I often teach everyone to be down-to-earth. Only by saying clearly and understanding clearly have you learned it. Going to the exam without understanding it clearly and only getting 60 or 70 points is actually a waste of time and you still haven't understood.
Some people tell me that they have forgotten how to ride a bicycle. In fact, it's impossible to forget. Forgetting is ultimately because you didn't learn it back then. People were helping you maintain your balance in the back, and you were only in charge of pedaling in the front. It's like the small car that kids use when they learn to ride a bike, with two auxiliary wheels on each side in the back. You can't ride if you take off those two small wheels. This is a bad habit. Many people get a driver's license but don't know how to drive. They just want to get a driver's license. It's a tragedy to have an A license but not be able to drive. So turning a bad habit into a good habit is a painful experience. As for how to change, I will tell you in the third lecture. Today, I will give you a general overview.
IV. The Personality of Proactive Learning
A person's personality is charming. The reason why a person is considered charming is because they have a personality in their bones. You have to understand what the personality of proactive learning is. You couldn't establish the habit of proactive learning from the beginning, so you can't have the personality of proactive learning. Start today to develop the habit of proactive learning. For example, making dumplings, buns, and steamed buns is proactive learning. You have begun to develop the habit of proactive learning. But when you learn programming, you become passive again because you are not used to it. If you develop the personality of proactive learning, you will proactively learn when you do things because proactive learning is an exercise in faith.
The process of exercising faith through proactive learning is like this: At first, you don't understand things, and personality is generated by faith. I often say, Actually, there's nothing to it; it's just this little thing. Isn't decorating a house just water, electricity, floors, and ceilings, and then you move the furniture in? Why do you think so much and I think it's simple? Because my faith component is large. When a person's faith is large, the problem becomes small in front of you. When faith is small, the problem becomes large in front of you. So how is faith exercised? It is by solving a small problem with the method of proactive learning, and then solving a large problem with the method of proactive learning. Later, faith slowly rises.
It's bad when some people don't want to do small things and can't do big things. There are many people like this. They lack the personality of proactive learning. Everyone will slowly discover why I emphasize faith so much because faith is very important. Faith is a judgment of the future. If you say to the future that you can definitely solve this problem, you will persist until you solve the problem. If you feel that you can't solve the problem during the process, you can't continue. I have persisted in this way over the past few years, and nothing has been left unfinished. I am not someone who leaves things unfinished; I don't have appendicitis that bursts. Leaving things unfinished is a very bad habit. Everything you do is unfinished, so you might as well call it Unfinished. Therefore, the personality of proactive learning is a positive judgment of the future, so just persist.
Today, I insist on building a counseling hotline because I am willing to partner with your small leaders to bring you out of your current situation, not by relying on the little faith inside you, but by relying on the faith that I impart to you so that you can persevere to the end. This is definitely not easy to do, but the rewards are high. So what should you do if you encounter difficulties while proactively learning?
## V. Proactively Utilise Various Resources
You will gradually discover that those who know how to learn will utilise resources. One of our co-workers is more adept at finding information than I am. Sometimes, I ask him to help me find certain materials, and he locates them very quickly. Some time ago, I needed materials for human resources training, and he quickly found a wealth of excellent related materials, which were very well presented.
The first type of resource to utilise is information. The internet today is so powerful that all kinds of information are available. For example, on YouTube, there is something called MIT OpenCourseWare. All the courses there are taught by very capable professors, and the materials are extremely abundant. Therefore, when you go to school, do not focus on learning content; instead, learn how to utilise resources. Your professors are your resources, your classmates, and the capable individuals you know can become your resources. The same applies in the workplace. Besides these materials, there are also experts and scholars. If you did not know me today, how would you know how to learn proactively? Today, I am an expert, and I am telling you about proactive learning so that you can understand how to do it.
Everyone should now start training their skills in finding information. To solve a problem, you must learn the skill of proactively seeking information and proactively seeking assistance. Do not mistake proactive learning for passively asking questions. Passively asking questions means asking without having thought about it beforehand. I rebuke him because he did not think at all before asking the question. But if you have thought about it and then ask a question when you encounter difficulties, that is valuable because the questions asked are meaningful. Proactively utilising various resources, including online books and materials, is one of the resources. However, it is important what books you read. Reading miscellaneous books will result in a pile of rubbish, and you will only confuse yourself. Someone asked me about The Moon and Sixpence, but I have not read it. I have seen The Old Man and the Sea, but it held no meaning for me; I do not like that kind of book. I have not even memorised many Tang poems. As an engineer, my focus is on solving problems. I am not in the habit of poets and literati expressing their complaints and grievances. Proactively utilising various resources means that you should proactively seek information and use all available resources within our environment. We are willing to be utilised by you as long as you can grow.
## VI. Proactively Abstract, Summarise, Generalise, and Organise
Everyone should write down these four words, or rather eight characters. These eight characters are not your or my destiny (八字); they are the eight characters of proactive learning. Abstract, summarise, generalise, and organise – these eight characters determine your destiny (八字). They are very important because this is what learning is. A characteristic of the human brain is that anything that has not been abstracted, summarised, generalised, and organised cannot enter the brain. Therefore, whatever you do, you must go through a process of abstracting, summarising, generalising, and organising. Some people say they do not know how; this is what you are learning. You are here today to learn abstracting, summarising, generalising, and organising. The ability to learn lies in this.
Some time ago, one of our sisters wanted to learn accounting. Although some of the brothers and sisters among us are academic achievers, they were at a loss when it came to teaching someone else how to learn. I took over this matter and asked the one who is good at finding information to help me find accounting materials. He quickly found Three-Colour Notes, which are books for various levels of accounting exams. When I opened this book, I discovered that it used three colours of ink, which was a way of abstracting, summarising, generalising, and organising. Then, if you read the accounting book and then read these notes, after going back and forth a few times, you will know what organised information looks like. They condensed a thick book into a thin one. If you can absorb and understand it, you will have learned it, that is, you will have clarified the relationships between concepts, and you will have also found the patterns within.
For example, I do not have much time to learn accounting either, but when I encounter a matter, I have to ponder it. I spent some time quickly flipping through it and made a summary. The reason why I learn things quickly is that I quickly grasp the concepts and then quickly grasp the relationships between those concepts. In this case, the accounting standards teach people how to do the accounts, that is, how to make accounting vouchers. What accounting vouchers are is something I do not have time to teach in detail today, but simply put, it means which account the money comes from and which account it goes into. This is called an accounting voucher, but that is not how people teach it. The second concept is the accounts, and the third is the balance of the accounts, which is calculated by adding and subtracting. Within that, there are increases and decreases, and the balance produces three statements. If you can organise the relationships and concepts clearly, you will learn it immediately; it turns out that is all there is to it.
Of course, having said that, although that is indeed all there is to it, there is still some distance to go before you understand each and every one of the six major categories of accounts. However, once you organise it, you form a framework. With a framework, things will not be in disarray, and the problems will be easily solved. This is why learning is so quick. Some people ask about human resources learning. Well, we also have our own set of methods. The same applies to programming. My strength lies in abstracting, summarising, generalising, and organising, that is, I am good at quickly grasping the relationships between concepts by summarising, generalising, and organising, thereby forming the highest level framework, and then delving into a deeper layer of the framework. The material in my mind is a clear network of ideas.
If you find this pattern, you will not go astray in your work, and you will be able to think. Accounting, finance, human resources, project management, marketing, being a social media influencer – these have all been organised by others, so just learn from them. I often say that learning is not something you invent yourself; it is learning from others. For example, none of the words were invented by you. If you invent a word during an exam, it is called a misspelled word. If you keep writing misspelled words and think that you invented them yourself, you cannot invent them; these are all learned from others. Today, we learn mathematics, physics, chemistry, and even how to speak from others. If your child is raised by a domestic helper, they will speak like the domestic helper. You have to understand thoroughly that everything is learned from others. So, if you proactively abstract, summarise, generalise, and organise, and clarify the relationships between concepts, how can you not be capable? Especially when you want to solve a problem, if you cannot clarify it, you cannot solve it. If you do something wrong, and it becomes a habit, you will be ruined because you are always messing around blindly.
## VII. Be Someone Who Enjoys Solving Problems
First, ask yourself why you want to learn? Because you want to solve problems. It is useless to learn something and then use it as conversation filler after meals. Learning is for solving problems, and solving a problem is more enjoyable than eating a full-course meal. I love solving problems. No matter what the problem is, I find it enjoyable to solve. If you can solve problems wherever you go, how can people not honour you? If you create problems and troubles for people wherever you go, you will become disliked. From now on, it is not me pushing you to learn proactively, but you wanting to learn proactively because you want to solve problems. You can only earn money if you can solve problems; who would give you money if you do not solve problems?
Solving a problem is very enjoyable. Some time ago, I realised a pattern: literary figures, artists, and the like are prone to depression and insanity; many commit suicide. But engineers rarely jump off buildings. As for the engineer who jumped off a building because of stock speculation that people talk about online, that is unrelated to what we are talking about now. Although he was an engineer, he later went into stock speculation, which is finance, something else entirely. Going back to the topic, engineers find great enjoyment in solving problems. Try it, and you will know. This is why I insist on placing the engineer's mindset within you. When you talk to someone and discover that they are a philosopher who likes to quibble over words or a literary figure who likes to be lyrical and express their emotions at every turn, it is clear that as an engineer like me, there is no time for complaining or expressing grievances; there is only time for solving problems.
A person will encounter many problems in their life. Some time ago, I encountered an elderly woman in her 90s whose legs were swollen. I had previously cured her leg swelling, so why was it swollen again? It turned out that she and her daughter were discerning good and evil. After untangling that knot and praying, the problem was solved, and the swelling subsided. Remember! I will say this to everyone again: do not explain the problem; solve the problem. There is a big difference between explaining and solving. Many people like to explain. For example, if they cannot open their mouth because the hook is stuck, they say it is a bodily disorder. There is no need for you to say it is a disorder. If it will get better slowly, that will not solve the problem. If someone can solve the problem, their explanation is correct. If they cannot solve the problem, their explanation is just trying to fool you. Therefore, we must be problem solvers, not problem explainers. There are many people who love to explain problems now, but the problem solvers are here with us.
Today, everyone should develop the habit of proactive learning. Proactive learning is not for learning about sixpence and then telling people that you have learned sevenpence, one more than them. That is useless. Start developing the habit of solving problems. When solving problems, you will discover that there will be times when you cannot solve them yourself, but do not be discouraged. Because you know that you need to learn in order to solve this problem. After you have learned and actually solved the problem, you will have learned something. And sometimes, you may have to learn nine things that cannot solve the problem in order to solve one problem. In reality, you only manage to solve the problem after learning the tenth thing. So, we become increasingly smarter. We must continue to pass on this concept. How wonderful it would be if an 11-year-old child listened to what I am saying now and decided to be a problem solver. Figure out what is going on with their bad relationship with their mother, and then learn and understand why the relationship is bad and how to improve it. Or, if a 17-year-old child is about to go to university and, after listening to this, feels that the most important thing is that they should first proactively find out what they should study.
I will end today's sharing with a story. A child who was in kindergarten came to us with his mother. Back then, they were poor and rented a very simple house in Shanghai. It rained heavily outside, and it drizzled inside. Later, we taught his mother how to learn proactively. His mother went from having no income to now earning seven or eight thousand yuan a month. With this income, they took out a loan to buy a cheap car, and it is fine to pay a thousand or eight hundred yuan a month in repayments. Before they knew it, this child had grown up. He remembered what I had said in the past. In fact, what I am saying today is nothing new; it is all what I have said in the past.
This child had a rural household registration. Later, Shanghai introduced a new policy that allowed junior high school graduates to attend secondary vocational schools, tuition-free and with subsidies, to study internet marketing. He is not very old now; it has not been many years since they first came here. Now, after listening to my teachings, he quickly started an internship and is earning a salary. His family's entire financial situation has been greatly reversed. This is much better than those who go to university and get this degree and that degree but, in the end, cannot do anything. Because those who study for a long time but still cannot do anything are passive learners, while this child, now sixteen or seventeen years old, has become a proactive learner. I want to congratulate him at this moment; he will definitely become a promising and intelligent child in the future.
Today, we have given a general overview. Starting tomorrow, we will talk about it section by section, explaining clearly the methods, habits, and character of proactive learning, as well as proactively utilising various resources, and proactively abstracting, summarising, generalising, and organising. I will explain it clearly to everyone in a course-by-course manner, so that in the end, you can be someone who enjoys solving problems, not someone who creates problems. How wonderful that would be. Now, many children have become accustomed to passive learning, and in the end, they become the epitome of moochers, which is too difficult. That is all for today. Happy New Year to everyone, and may your families be happy and healthy!
