Introduction
Today, I want to share with you a topic about blessed individuals, a topic that is truly wonderful: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." This topic comes from Psalm 23. Do you know where Psalm 23 originated?
I surmise that David, probably around my age, in his old age, made a summary, especially after Absalom's rebellion, usurping the throne, being driven out of the capital, and then going into exile. Having experienced all this, and with God restoring his throne, he reflected on the path he had walked over the years and made a highly abstract summary.
The Chinese Mingding Doctrine has a logic called abstraction, summarization, induction, and organization. If you abstract, summarize, induce, and organize, what exactly is the thing you produce? Take a closer look later. If what you organize is disaster, curses, sickness, pain, toil, and sorrow, that's terrible. If you summarize that the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, can everyone hear this logic?
I shall not want, is it because of want? No, it is because, in the face of want, one can rely on God. Wonderful comfort, wonderful provision, wonderful grace all come. Wow, it's simply wonderful. It's not that there is no want, there is want. It's not that there is no hardship, there is hardship. But every time we pass through, we praise our God.
It's the same as the situation we are in now. If a person lacks no good things in life, never wants, and God replenishes everything with His grace, how blessed that is. It's so good to be a blessed person. Do you want to be a blessed person? You say, "Teacher, I dream of it," that's right. If you dream of it, then let's start learning now.
Everyone must know that we also cannot control that thing called fate. But I don't think it's a matter of fate; I think it's a matter of learning. If others can be blessed people, we can too. Why can't I? If they do it that way, I'll do it that way too. I wasn't born knowing how to renovate; I came into the world naked, knowing nothing, only how to drink milk. Didn't we learn everything later? What isn't learned? If others do it that way, we'll do it that way too. I tell you, this will give you great hope. If it's all predestined, that's too despairing, isn't it? If others do it that way, we'll do it that way too.
I wasn't born a church builder either; I learned it later. Remember, everything is learned, even being blessed is learned. David learned it this way too. As long as you want to be a person who does not want, start learning, for the issues of life spring from the heart. Learn to be a blessed person, learn from David. You say, can we learn it? Yes! Everything can be learned.
Teacher, I've lacked everything in this life except sickness and bad luck. Can I learn? Isn't that fate? No, no, no, you can learn, you can learn everything. Many things in life are our own choices. I give you this information to let you believe that anything can be learned. Can shrewdness be learned? Shrewdness can be learned. Coming here, you must learn to be a blessed person, and surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
How did David summarize it? He experienced a lot as king, to the extent that saying more would only bring tears. I tell you, David's tears flowed so much that they floated the bed and soaked the bed. It was definitely hard, but what else could he do in the midst of hardship? Trust in God, and then he experienced God's miraculous deeds. His life's summary, although there were tears and sweat, was that he would never want, because he did not want in his heart. If he does not want in his heart, he will not want in life; if he wants in his heart, he will want in life.
I'll tell you a story. David was arranged by his father to tend sheep when he was a teenager. What about his brothers? His brothers went to the army to be officers and went to war with Saul. David was a teenager at the time, with a small sickle at his waist and a small stick in his hand, tending sheep. Think about what teenagers can do now. Teenagers now play games, browse their phones, and surf the Internet.
In fact, David was very scared in his heart. I ask you, a teenager, looking around, oh my goodness, there is nothing, no one, only a flock of sheep. Then, at night, when he dozed off, the howling of wolves and tigers was terrifying. I ask you, what did he do? Would he say, "Oh! God of my father Abraham, He is the God who watches over me." He should have, of course, he hadn't heard me preach, I wasn't born at that time.
At night, it was pitch black, and the eyes of the two wolves in front were shining brightly. They got up and snatched a sheep. That night was terrifying. David picked up the stick in his hand and rescued the sheep from the wolf's mouth. He sat there thinking, how could I possibly rescue the sheep from the wolf's mouth? How is it possible? Ah, it was God who helped me. Then how could I possibly catch up with the wolf? Ah, it was God who helped me. So, "The Lord is my shepherd," this sentence is the most beautiful summary he forged in his life.
No one in the family thought highly of him. Later, Samuel ran to David's house and asked Jesse, "Where are your sons?" Jesse said, "The eldest son is handsome, tall and handsome." Samuel said, "Not him." He saw the second son and said, "Not him." He saw the third son and said, "Not him." He saw the fourth son and said, "Not him." He saw the fifth son and said, "Not him." Finally, he asked Jesse, "Don't you have any other sons?" "We have another son named David, who is tending sheep outside. Go and call him quickly."
As soon as David came back, oh, this child looked so handsome, right? God saw that it was him. Then I ask you, did David have any resentment when he was tending sheep? Could there be anointing if he had resentment? David was truly a man who trusted in God. As a result, Samuel poured oil on David's head, saying, "You will be the king of Israel in the future." David was a little dazed, "What virtue or ability do I have to be the king of Israel? This is a great grace."
As a result, after David was anointed, he went back to tending sheep. If someone says you are going to be king, and then you think, "Oh, I am going to be king, what should I do? I am going to be king." Quickly get a hundred thousand online loans and buy a thirty thousand dollar bag, right? How handsome it is to carry it, I am the king. What's the use of that? In the end, you find out, "Oh, the online loan still has to be repaid, and I don't have money to repay it next month." You borrow money, thinking that buying a bag will make you handsome. David is handsome in his heart. He is going to be king, but he still goes back to tending sheep honestly.
As a result, while tending sheep, an opportunity came. Why? His father said, "David, your brothers are fighting in the front. I have prepared a basket of cakes. Hurry up and send them to your brothers." David carried a basket of cakes, with a sickle at his left waist and a slingshot at his right waist, and went. I tell you, David's slingshot was very good, a very good invention, hitting the target every time.
As a result, when he arrived at the battlefield, he saw many people saying, "Whoever can kill this Goliath, the king will marry his daughter to him." David said, "Marry the king's daughter to me." Good! "Oh, I was anointed to be the king of Israel, let me be the king's son-in-law first." Isn't this climbing up? It's getting into the circle.
Before, there was no opportunity outside the circle, but now the opportunity has come. As a result, he said, "Really?" He asked several people, "Is it confirmed?" "Confirmed." "Okay, leave this Goliath to me." When he arrived at the battlefield, he saw that Goliath, do you know how tall he was? Three meters! Have you ever seen a three-meter-tall person? His fingers were like carrots, oh my goodness, holding a spear in his hand, as thick as a cart axle.
When that guy swung it around, what do you use to fight Goliath? If you touch it even slightly, your life is gone. Which general on Saul's side went out to fight? Who wants to go out? Who? Everyone looked at me, I looked at you. Goliath looked at them like mice, and they also felt like mice when they saw Goliath. Three meters tall, terrifying, the weight must be one or two tons. One or two tons and a hundred pounds, there's no comparison, right? Sawing off Goliath's legs, the calves would be like one of us.
David took a look and said to Saul, "I'll do it." Why should I do it? Isn't this what he said to Saul? "Hey, your servant, don't look at me being small, about one meter sixty-seven, a handsome young man." He said, "I killed the lion when it came, I killed the bear when it came, what is that Goliath?" Right? What is Goliath?
David wanted to say, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." What is lacking at this time? What is most lacking at this time is strength, right? What is most lacking at this time is wisdom. As a result, Goliath took a look and said, "Oh, a little kid has come. Hey, catching him and eating him is not enough to fill the gaps between my teeth."
As a result, David took the stone, bang. I ask you, how could it be so accurate? It was so accurate. A stone as big as an egg hit the center of his eyebrows, between his eyes. Bang, he died. How could he be so accurate? I ask you, is David amazing? I tell you, people with God are so amazing.
When he thought of this experience in his old age, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." That is a cornucopia, wisdom comes when you need wisdom, strength comes when you need strength. Right? Whatever you need comes out. When you need money, I tell you, it will produce money. It really will produce money. How much money did David save later? He saved hundreds of tons of gold, hundreds of tons of gold. It's like a vault in a bank. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
Later, after killing Goliath, David took Goliath's sword in his hand and flipped it over, "Not bad." I ask you, Goliath's sword, hanging at his waist, weighing it, must be a hundred pounds, right? David was strong, don't look at him being small, he was strong. Goliath's sword was extraordinary. Thank God, a person should cultivate David's faith from a young age.
Are there difficulties? There are difficulties. Later, he became a commander of thousands in front of the king, and then led troops to fight. When leading troops to fight, David did everything shrewdly. I was wondering, why do people become stupid after believing in the Lord? Has everyone noticed that people become stupid after believing in the Lord? I am particularly moved by this matter. Why can't believing in the Lord make you like David? Why do you become stupid? Silly, and the words you say when you open your mouth don't sound right.
As a result, what happened? He was going to marry the king's daughter. That's great, being the king's son-in-law. Saul arranged a job for David. You have to have a betrothal gift. David said, "King Saul, what betrothal gift do you want?" He had thought it over, "I killed Goliath, shouldn't you marry your daughter to me?" Right? Saul said he wanted two hundred Philistine foreskins. Oh, what are you going to do with the foreskins? Just cut them off and bring them back, you don't need to peel them. As a result, David went out and killed two hundred Philistines.
In fact, Saul wanted to kill David through the hands of the Philistines, but in the end, he didn't kill him. "The Lord is my shepherd." I ask you, did David know that Saul had bad intentions? He knew, but who can harm me? No one can harm me. Because the Lord is my shepherd, He has anointed my head with oil, my cup overflows. As a result, he came back.
I thank God, I tell you, if you summarize this life a little bit, I also think this is good, it goes to the bottom of my heart. If you really have this heart in your heart, thinking that the Lord is your shepherd, I will teach you a few tricks later, but now I will tell you a story first.
This fellow David, he went and married Saul's daughter. David and Jonathan were also very close, like brothers. So, David was married to Saul's daughter. But Saul, he was small-minded. Saul's kingship, it came from God. But Saul, he valued the throne too much, and God too little. He thought being king made him something special.
So, what happened? He wanted to kill David. David had to flee. Ah, David running away, I ask you, was there any salary? Gone. Any pension? Gone. Any Central Provident Fund (CPF)? Gone. Only a wanted notice left. A wanted notice, posted all over the country, David's picture, saying whoever sees him, arrest him and bring him to me.
So David, he hid here and there, it was miserable. He didn't know where his next meal was coming from, starving. Was he lacking? Of course, he was lacking. Hardship, too much hardship. What could he experience at this time? At this time, he experienced, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Saying too much, you might shed tears.
I will read to you David's experience at that time, in Psalm 6, you can feel David's situation then, it was really too difficult.
**O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?
I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. (Psalm 6:1-10)**
It speaks of David in his lack, did he have a sense of security? Where would the security come from? Was there food? Where would the food come from? Nothing, only a wanted notice, too much hardship. Later, some people were after him, at this time God saved him from the hand of his enemies.
I tell you, in life, people are not afraid of lacking, but afraid of lacking a heart that trusts in God. Every time God saved him, until he was old and became king. He wrote a psalm, called Psalm 23, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Do you have this faith? Start imprinting in your mind that God is sustaining me, that I will lack nothing in my life. If you lack nothing, would you become a corrupt official? No need. If you lack nothing, do you need to be a crooked businessman in your life? No need. I tell you, in life, if you have God in your heart, you will lack no good thing.
Later, the six hundred men who joined David, either they were wanted like David, in debt, murderers, arsonists, nonsense people, all sorts, a rabble, six hundred men. Where did the provisions for these six hundred men come from? A rabble, if you don't give them some money, would they follow you? Right? Where did the provisions come from? Ah, David was very worried. Fortunately, David had God, God provided.
Speaking of this, I tell you, I have experienced God's miraculous deeds many times, these miraculous deeds exceeded my imagination. Because when I build a church, I don't like to compromise, I like to do things right. The church didn't have money then, renting a place, the place was small, you can't rent a place that's in the boondocks. If it's in the boondocks, who will come? No one will come. A lifeless church, in the boondocks, no one will come. A place in the city centre, is it expensive? Expensive. Expensive also rent, after renting, what to use to pay the rent? Dirt poor, just starting, very difficult. Rented one, after a period of time, not many months, the offering could receive five thousand Singapore dollars, five thousand Singapore dollars paid the rent, a little bit left, thank God.
Not long after, the bigger unit next door became vacant. Some brothers and sisters asked me if I wanted to rent it, I said what to use to rent it, sell my flesh? But after thinking about it, rent, rent it and change to a bigger one. I tell you, that rent was like our one month's income, rented it. Is God amazing? Still those people, the second month, from five thousand offering amount, became eight thousand. Eight thousand dollars paid the rent, three thousand left, ah, the Lord is my shepherd.
I don't like to save money on things that serve God, I especially hate saving money, I don't like being stingy. I feel that stingy people, they cannot be successful, because they don't know that God will not let them lack. After a few years, the church, if it's just me, it's easy to handle, one person full, the whole family is not hungry. Then others said: Pastor, I want to come to church to work.
Five or six people came in to work at the same time, that salary, in Singapore, you can imagine. I asked them: How much do you get outside? Three thousand. Okay, three thousand three plus ten percent. Three thousand three. How much do you get? Six thousand six. Calculated, the church's money could last six months, I said if there is no money after six months, how long can you last? Pastor, we can last another six months, okay, let's do it for one year. In the end, was there a lack? There was no lack.
David led these six hundred men to eat, drink, sleep, was there a lack? There was no lack. Psalm 23, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," how good it is to have God to trust in in life. Later, Saul pursued him, every pursuit, it was God's miraculous protection. This is God's rod and staff, they comfort me.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:1-6)
This is not enough, David also went to be king, led troops to fight, everywhere to attack cities and seize territory. During David's reign as king, he became the most prosperous king in Israel's history. Attacking cities and seizing territory, attacking the surrounding people, the surrounding countries, surely there was a lack of provisions. Fighting all day long, what about the economy? What about the country? I tell you, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
Later, he killed Uriah, confessed and repented. God said to David: Hey, if I give you so many wives, you still feel it's not enough, you tell me. Nathan told David, you tell God. This is our God, our God is such a God, so brothers and sisters, do you know, what abundant grace our God gives us. As a result, at this time, he needed God's mercy so much, in the end there was no lack, God still had mercy on David, this is David's personal experience.
Later, his son Absalom usurped the throne, David led his men and horses to flee, very difficult. As a result, David said this, hoping I have the opportunity to return to God's temple again. God, may you have mercy on me, he did not value the throne, but valued God. People can be without a throne, but cannot be without God. People can be without money, but cannot be without God.
As a result, who killed Absalom? If you read 2 Samuel carefully, it was God who killed him, God wanted to ruin Absalom. Absalom was immediately hung on a tree, just happened to be seen by David's soldiers, stabbed to death with a sword. David returned to Jerusalem and continued to be king, then I ask you, is David powerful, or is God powerful? God is powerful.
When David fled, some people cursed him, some people wanted to kill that Shimei, David said no no no. Let him curse, maybe God will have mercy on me. Understand? People cannot care so much about themselves, people must care about God.
As a result, after arriving in Jerusalem, after Absalom's rebellion was quelled, David wrote Psalm 23. The best ending in life, people can have nothing in life, but cannot be without God.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." I tell you, you are sustained by God, God sustains you, what are you worried about? Some people feel lacking all day long, coveting other people's retirement funds, coveting other people's pensions, but instead suffer losses.
Scripture
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:1-6)
Prayer
God, today we will trust in you. You are my God, I will lack nothing in my life. God, you are my shepherd, I will not want in my life. God, our good is not apart from you, may you restore our souls, may you personally lead us to walk the path you have predestined for us. God, even though we face the valley of the shadow of death, we will not fear evil, you will be with us, your rod, your staff, will comfort us. You will prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, because you have anointed my head with oil, I will receive such a Mingding Doctrine.
You will make my cup overflow, I will live for you, I will build God's temple all my life, be used by God. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, I will dwell in your temple. God, I thank you, may your plan for me be accomplished, may you do miraculous work in me, let me be like David all my life, pleasing to you before you, loving you wholeheartedly. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Scripture Background
The background of this scripture is the best summary of David's life, when we trust in God, no matter what environment we are in, we will lack nothing. You will find that every thing, every item, God has prepared well for us. So God can make us lie down in green pastures, lead me beside still waters. What is this scene? This is when he was taking the child to herd sheep, taking the sheep around to find very good places, David would lie down in the green pastures. Then when the sheep needed water, he would lead them beside still waters.
Have you seen "Animal World"? Those beasts at the top of the food chain, where do they hunt prey? Right by the water. When wild boars come to drink water, they grab the wild boars, when deer come to drink water, they grab the deer. The water's edge is a very dangerous place. Why did David say: Lead me beside still waters? I just lie down by the water, rest in the green pastures by the water. The reason is very simple, God protects you, then He restores your soul, leads you in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
This is a portrayal of David's life, illustrating that David has integrated his life's experiences here. The most deadly thing for people is to walk the path of sin, some people say to me: Pastor, can you live in this world without sinning? What does David say here? He restores my soul, leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake, that is, walking the path of not sinning.
How do we summarise this? Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. I believe the second verse speaks of his shepherding days, and the third verse speaks of God restoring my soul, He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. When he should be envious, he is not; when he should boast, he does not. He stays away from all these things, walking the path that pleases God, the path of trusting in God. And when he is being hunted, even though he walks through the valley of the shadow of death, he fears no evil.
David concludes with a point: You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. A person outside of Mingding Doctrine has no blessing. David concludes in the same way, that he will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. David was the King of Israel, yet he still needed God. If you are a small soldier, do you need God? You still need God. David needed God when he was a shepherd, and David still needed God when he was a king. I thank God that it is so wonderful for a person to trust in God throughout their life.
The Lord is My Shepherd 1: He Restores My Soul
When a person prospers in spirit, they prosper in all things. Many do not know that the Spirit of God is a tremendous energy. There is a school of thought in traditional Chinese medicine called the Fire God School. Its logic is that when the energy within a person is very abundant, when the Yang energy is very abundant, many illnesses disappear. How does this Yang energy become abundant? The spirit is revived. The spirit is a tremendous energy, so when a person's spirit is revived, things become easier.
You know, when I first came to Singapore, I felt that this place was very strange because Singapore is an island, and the humidity is very heavy. When I woke up in the morning, my body felt very heavy. And then you know what happened? I walked from my rented apartment to the bus station in the morning, and I was already drenched in sweat. I took the bus for a short distance, and then I got off the bus and walked to the office.
Oh my goodness, I felt like I was about to collapse, especially tired. I felt, what is this? Experiencing this every day, it was very hard. When I got to the office, I felt like I was about to collapse, and when I got back home, I also felt like I was about to collapse.
Later, one time I walked into a church, and they led me to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It was very interesting. It was the first time I went to church, and they led me to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I also thank God. As a result, when I walked out of the church, my body felt very light. Oh, I said, why does my body feel so light? From that day on, I began to have a very wonderful thing inside me. The environment had not changed, but my body had inexhaustible energy.
I tell you all, our spirit is so important. You know, the heart governs the mind, this is a saying in traditional Chinese medicine. If the Spirit of God dwells in our hearts, we will have strength in our hearts, our spirit will be revived, and our energy will be abundant. Yesterday, a brother told me that the Holy Spirit in Christianity is a high-dimensional thing, not just taking some medicine. If a person's heart is not very good, what they lack is the Spirit of God.
Some people spend all day studying the flesh, but studying the flesh does not solve the fundamental problem. Remember, studying with the ways of the flesh will never solve any problem. Solving problems with the spirit is the best way. So God restores our spirit, He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake, the path of trusting. From the first time I believed in the Lord and experienced God, I knew that God is my treasure. I said, God, I will trust in You forever. So nothing can take away my God, my God is forever my God. The Lord is my shepherd, He restores my soul, He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
The Lord is My Shepherd 2: Your Rod and Your Staff, They Comfort Me
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You must know that people often experience the valley of the shadow of death in their lives. Why do we experience the valley of the shadow of death? So that you can experience God's rod and God's staff. Because God's rod and God's staff comfort you. Why do they comfort you? When the wolf comes, it is killed. When the lion comes, it is killed. When Goliath comes, he is killed. Did you do it? No, it was God's rod and God's staff.
I tell you, a person has God's protection in their life, and God's rod and God's staff become our great comfort. So David speaks here of walking through the valley of the shadow of death, each time almost being killed, each time encountering various disasters, each time almost not having food to eat, each time almost losing his life. As a result, he says that God's rod and God's staff comfort me. It is so good to have God's rod and God's staff. Each time I experience brushing past death, it turns out that there is God's covering. God is my shepherd, nothing can harm us, nothing can harm us.
To this day, I still remember clearly that when I was forty years old, I had symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. But thank God, God's rod and God's staff comfort me. I am not afraid. I am not like some people who feel like they are going to die before they actually die. I still feel that I am far from death. In fact, many Christians are afraid of death. Being afraid of death can attract the spirit of death.
There was a sister who said to her mother, all your illnesses have been healed by God, why are you starting to study the logic of the flesh again? Her mother said, humph, one day I will suddenly die. Saying this is actually very dangerous. If you really die suddenly, then it is the fulfillment of what you said.
Once a person is very carnal, how can they not attract demons? Can you protect yourself? What do you use to resist demons? Today, if Old Ma stands behind you and pats you on the shoulder, and you turn around, what do you use to resist? If suddenly the ox-headed and horse-faced guardians come, it will be enough for you to drink a pot, right? What do you use to resist? Don't you have to rely on God's rod and God's staff? We study and study with the logic of the flesh, what can we study?
What do you use to resist? Don't you have to rely on God's rod and God's staff? We study and study with the logic of the flesh, what can we study? If you want to study, continue to study well, no one is stopping you. But brothers and sisters, you must know that our spirit must be revived. It is troublesome if a person's spirit is dead, or if their spirit is confused, and then they don't have God's rod and God's staff, what do we do? I don't know what to do. If you ask me, I will dwell in the house of God forever. I don't care much about living, and I don't care much about dying, because I live in God's hands.
The Lord is My Shepherd 3: You Anoint My Head with Oil
God anointed David through Samuel to make him the King of Israel. Why did God choose David? Why did He anoint his head with oil? Because David had faith inside him, David was a person who practiced faith. He was actually shepherding, and in the matter of shepherding, he began to practice faith, in the matter of shepherding, he began to rely on God. God looked from the throne and thought, oh, this is a treasure. He anointed his head with oil, making him a blessed person, causing his cup to overflow.
Look, in the presence of my enemies, You prepare a table before me; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. When David was shepherding, who were his enemies? His enemies were wolves, lions, tigers, and black bears. What did he rely on at this time? In the presence of my enemies, God prepares a table before me. This was written by David in his old age, he was like this when he was young. What was the result? As a result, his faith shook God's throne. God heard and thought, wow, he is a person of faith, anoint him with oil to be the King of Israel.
So you and I must know that if God anoints us, our cup will overflow. Anointing to be king, to let him manage the nation of Israel. How did David manage? He managed very well. Since the founding of Israel, from Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, to David's reign, it became a prosperous nation. David and Solomon, because David laid a good foundation for Solomon. So the entire nation of Israel during David and Solomon was even more prosperous than the Kangxi and Qianlong prosperous era.
Who was his enemy when Goliath came? The enemy was Goliath. Later, Saul hunted him down. The people who hunted him down were his enemies. In the presence of his enemies, God prepared a table before him. So if a person's head is anointed with oil, this person must be a person of faith. If you are a what? If you are an oh, oh, oh, my heart is a little enlarged. Ah, it's over, the blessing is gone. Why? Because there is no faith. Right? It's not that you haven't experienced God, you have experienced God and you are still like this. The anointing is gone, and the overflowing cup is gone.
So brothers and sisters, when you encounter Goliath, when you encounter wolves and lions, when you encounter tigers, when you are later hunted down by Saul, when David leads his troops to fight against the Ammonites, when you fight against these surrounding nations, at this time, what you need most is faith. God will prepare a table for you in the presence of your enemies. Then God will anoint your head with oil, and let your cup overflow. How good is that, right? How good.
The Lord is My Shepherd 4: I Will Dwell in the House of the Lord
Why did David want to dwell in the house of the Lord? Because there is God's glory there. Why dwell in the house of the Lord? Because there is God's glory there. David was a person who built a temple for God. He said to God, God, look, I live in a palace, and You still live in a tent. God, I want to build a temple for You. I want to build a temple for You. After David did this, God especially loved David.
David didn't have this heart only in his last few days, he had this heart throughout his life. To build a temple for the Lord God, he said: God, I know that You do not dwell in temples made by human hands, but I have this aspiration. If you and I have this aspiration, to build God's glorious church, will God not be clearly with us? If you want to see God's glory, you must build God's temple. You say: Doesn't God dwell above the whole earth? Above the whole earth, He also dwells in His temple. The temple is the church, and in the future, the church will let God's glory fill the whole earth. Dwelling in the house of the Lord, surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life.
So our brothers and sisters must know that if you have the anointing oil, and you have obtained the Mingding Doctrine, what Mingding Doctrine? To build God's glorious church, you will never lack in your life, how good is that? What is more secure than this? Nothing is more secure than this. But people believe in the Lord and easily believe outside of Psalm 23. Outside of Psalm 23, there is no goodness and mercy.
I hope that brothers and sisters can have this aspiration, and then I tell you, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. So remove the poor heart inside, and you can live out abundance.
In fact, in the process of building the church, we have discovered a rule, you cannot save money on things that serve God. Because our God is a giving God, I believe that our brothers and sisters will be blessed in finances, and also be blessed in sickness, so that we can become a people blessed by God, never lacking in life. May God bless everyone, Amen.
