【Bible Study】Romans 08 – Part 03 – If God is for us, who can be against us

2019-03-07 17,364 Romans Resistance Assistance More Than Conquerors Unworthiness Claiming God's Promises God's Love for Us

God is the God Who Helps Us

This section is the climax of Romans, but many do not believe this very high climax. In fact, believing is not difficult. Paul wrote, saying: There is nothing more to say. If God is for us, who can be against us? But many still do not believe. Many feel that God does not help them, that they are like stepchildren, as if they are not children of God. If a person cannot believe that if God is for us, no one can be against us, then he cannot be a Christian.

Christians are those who have the adoption as children of God. It is not that you are a Christian just by sitting in church. You must believe. If God is for us, who can be against us? Who can put this sentence into practice and experience it firsthand? Many are unwilling to believe. In fact, a person's life is not about what God has done, but about what we believe. God has already done what should be done. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? But many still do not believe, and they feel that God will not help them.

In this business of being a pastor, I have found that many cannot realize God's promises. In fact, God is determined to help us, but many do not receive it. Why? Not because of anything else, but simply because we do not believe. Over the past few years, I have personally experienced these words. I often encountered situations where I was completely unable to resist. I was completely unable to do anything. In fact, except for tears, there were only tears, and I was very desperate. But I just believed, believing that if God is for me, who can be against me!

Because of this belief, God really helped me. Later, I gradually realized how abundant and glorious the hope in Jesus Christ is. But many really do not believe. Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Every time I read this passage, I am deeply moved. Every time I fall into difficulties, it is a moment of experiencing God's mighty arm. Every time I face persecution, I end up experiencing victory. I may not have experienced facing hunger, nakedness, danger, or sword, but I dare say that even if I encounter these things, through him who loved us, I will be more than a conqueror in all these things.

Today, among us, anyone who is experiencing persecution, hardship, or difficulty, are you willing to believe? Are you willing to walk the path of experiencing God like me? A person who has not experienced God's love can hardly know how long, wide, high, and deep God's love is. If a person does not believe that God will help us, he will not be able to receive help. So today, can you open your mouth like me and say: If God is for us, who can be against us? God is our help, and God can help us at any time.

We Are All Unworthy, But God Gave His Only Son for Us

Looking back on those very difficult days in 2008, I was both a senior manager at the university and building a church, serving many people. But I believed that God is the God who helps me. As a result, 2009 was better than 2008, 2010 was better than 2009... and until now, every year has been better than the previous year.

Why? Just because of one thing, I believe that God is the God who helps me. Many people say, Oh, I am not worthy. In fact, who is worthy? I am not worthy either, but I just believe that I am chosen by God. Some people ask: Why are you chosen by God? I just believe, believe that I am chosen by God. Is there a problem with that? Someone asks again: Why do you believe? I am willing to believe. Do I need to prove anything? No need. The Bible is very clear, from Romans chapter 1 to the end of chapter 8.

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32)

It is not when we are worthy that God does these things for us, but when we are unworthy that God does these things for us. I have grasped this very important truth: I do not come before God based on my actions. If it were based on actions, you would think, Look, I tithed, God, you should bless me; I did this, God should bless me; I did that, God should bless me.

But I do not think like that. I think, I was originally a piece of rubbish, but God is so gracious to me, lifting me up, allowing me to receive your grace in this life. All of us must know that we are unworthy.

I have verified one thing: nothing can separate us from God's love. If I were to argue this point, when you were healed, what did you do for Jesus Christ? Many who abandoned God were healed through my hands. Did God not know that they would abandon God? God knew, but God still healed them. How long, wide, high, and deep is God's love? Every time I think about this, I am very moved. I thank God that when he created me, I became a very faithful person.

I believe that I am a child of God; I believe that I am chosen by God; I believe that God will help me; I believe that no one can resist me; I believe that God will freely give me all things and his Son; I believe that nothing can accuse me; I believe that no one can condemn me, because Jesus Christ died for me when I was still a sinner, and is still my redeemer today. I believe, and I receive.

If you want to rely on doing something to be worthy, then you are in trouble, because we are all unworthy. Among the brothers and sisters who participate in the ministry, there are not many who are talented or capable, but God is gracious to us.

We have a brother who loves God very much. He has a love for God in his bones. In fact, he is not very smart, but he easily found a very good job.

We have a sister whose classmates who studied for a doctorate with her were stronger in terms of ability, wisdom, and intelligence than our sister. But her classmates looked for a job for a year, while our sister quickly found a very good job after graduation. This sister is not particularly great. She collapses whenever she is under pressure. When it comes to dealing with people and work ability, she cannot be said to be particularly shrewd, but God is gracious to her. There are many more examples. What I can prove is that if God helps us, no one can resist us.

Over the past years, if you want to know how I have come to this day, I will tell you frankly that it is not without hardship, it is not without trouble, and it is not without persecution. The road has been very difficult, but these difficult roads have allowed me to personally experience God's wonderful deeds. Brothers and sisters, know that your faith can create an extremely beautiful future, because your faith can draw on God's help.

God has been waiting there for a long time for you to believe that He will help you. So in any place, any trouble or hardship is nothing. Today, among us brothers and sisters, if you are in trouble, in persecution, or in any debt, you must know that God is your help, and God is our ever-present help.

As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:36-37)

Paul wrote this, does it mean that he was slaughtered or not? Obviously, he was not slaughtered. Like sheep to be slaughtered, how come they were not slaughtered? Because God was his help. Brothers and sisters, they are also preachers, but some people believe that God is their help, and some do not believe. I have seen many people, including Christians, who often say, Who am I? I am not Jesus. Who am I? I am not Paul. They accept what they experience, but I do not accept it. I only accept God's word:

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

It is this kind of faith that can see God's glorious name manifested among us. There is a sister who loves the Lord very much. Her grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and her mother worked very hard to serve her grandfather. But she worked hard in Singapore to serve several sisters in need. God remembered her and helped her. In fact, she did not do anything, and God miraculously released her grandfather, allowing her grandfather to come out of Alzheimer's disease, so that her mother did not have to take care of him so hard. It is very hard to take care of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease. Does God help us because we deserve it? No, because we believe that God will help us.

So every time I meet brothers and sisters who are troubled and on the verge of collapse, I use these words to encourage them, and I also use these words to encourage myself. I often fall into despair, and the feeling of despair is not good at all, but I tell you, you will really collapse when you have no faith. But even with a dying faith, God will not abandon us. Some of us brothers and sisters are always afraid that God will abandon them. In fact, what they need to fear is that they will abandon God. When has our God ever abandoned anyone? Isn't it all people who abandon God? So today I want to share with you:

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39)

Do not be afraid of hardship, do not be afraid of trouble, do not be afraid of persecution, do not be afraid of danger. Start learning to rely on him who loved us. In all these things, relying on him who loved us, we are more than conquerors. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Brothers and sisters, do you really believe it? The Bible says that if you read God's word and then put it into practice, you will personally experience God, and you will truly understand what these words mean. To this day, these words have been of great help to me. Know how much God wants to help us, how much God wants to share glory with us, how much God wants us to be one with him, and how much God wants us to grow up and receive the adoption as sons. God never wants us to die young.

But is the God you believe in a good God or an evil God? I believe that my God is a good God, and my God is the God who helps me. Think about it carefully, the master who created the universe is going to be my help. What a grace this is.

Once, a sister had a very strong pregnancy reaction and was vomiting wildly. I prayed with her, and I also knew that she did not love the Lord very much. But because I prayed with her, a miracle happened. All pregnancy reactions completely disappeared. Because this was the first time I had done such a thing, this matter brought me quite a shock. Our God is really God, even though this sister is not really a Christian. She just occasionally sits in church. Does God not know about this situation? God knows.

I think, God is willing to help such people, so will God not freely give us his Son and all things together? God is gracious to such people, let alone us who choose to love God and choose to serve God? We must abandon the mentality of poverty.

In fact, I tell you, I have gradually learned one thing: in hardship, we are victorious through Jesus our Lord who loves us. I want to tell you that if you choose to serve God, you will experience some extraordinary things, and these extraordinary things may include trouble, hardship, persecution, hunger, or perhaps nakedness, danger, sword, or even that you yourself will be regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.

But in any case, I suggest that no matter what situation you face, you should begin to know that through Jesus our Lord who loves us, we are more than conquerors in all these things. But if you do not put it into practice, if you do not trust Him, you will not be able to know what these words mean. Some people will say: I cannot receive God's love, I cannot feel God's love. In fact, it is all because this love is in our Lord Jesus Christ. All who belong to the body of Jesus Christ, that is, those who are in the church where God is present, will definitely experience these words.

I want to ask everyone, did you really listen to Gaining Jesus Christ as the Most Precious Treasure that I shared with you some time ago? If you do not think it is the most precious treasure, then you will not be able to experience God. If you do not love God, if you are not in the Lord Jesus Christ, if you like to have one foot in the world and one foot in the kingdom of God, that is, if you want to love the world and also want to take advantage of Jesus Christ, then you will not be able to gain anything.

## Conclusion: Nothing Can Hinder God's Love for Us

So, my advice to everyone today is this: No matter the environment, no matter the person, no matter the event, if you are willing to experience it, you can begin to experience it today. Those among us who have experienced God's healing and grace should know that, even though you are unworthy of this healing and grace, our God has abundant grace and mercy.

So, let us not, after receiving God's healing or feeling a little better, return to loving the world and becoming utter fools. That is not a viable path. Today, I want to tell everyone: If God is for us, who can be against us?

Although some brothers and sisters among us are still experiencing setbacks in life, from today onwards, **we must change that decadent, desperate, and hopeless state. We must loudly declare: In all these things, we are more than conquerors through our Lord Jesus, who loves us.**

**Victory is very important. Those who overcome will receive the promises, and all of God's promises are in the《Bible》.** But obtaining these promises can only be done through our Lord. We can only live a victorious life through our Lord, who loves us. When a person overcomes, God's glory will be revealed through them, because God loves us and does not want us to be without hope.

Many brothers and sisters among us are still living under oppression. If you discover that you have some kind of oppression upon you, and this oppression may be similar to what your ancestors, your parents, or other family members have experienced, then you must know that this is the work of evil spirits behind you. So, starting today, you must rely on our Lord, who loves us. Whether it is death or life, angels or demons, rulers, or authorities, things present or things to come, nothing can separate us from the love of God. God will surely be our help. May God bless everyone!
