【Bible Study】Zechariah Chapter 05 - God Will Surely Bring the Curse Into the House of the Wicked!

2025-06-06 8 Zechariah

Introduction

Good morning, everyone. Let us turn to Zechariah, chapter 5. Throughout the book, Zechariah saw multiple visions, making it a challenging text to interpret! Fortunately, this chapter deals with the subject of curses.

However, Christians often harbor deep misconceptions about curses, to the extent that they believe curses do not originate from God. They may think curses come from Balaam, Balak, or other sources. But in reality, curses do indeed come from God.

Recently, I came across discussions online about "apotropaic magic," including the Chinese folk practice of "sticking needles into effigies." This involves writing a person's birth details on a "small figure" and then sticking needles into it to curse the person, with the belief that something will happen to the cursed individual.

Such practices are quite common in Chinese culture, but these evil arts have no effect on Christians. Why? The reason is simple: the name of a Christian is exceedingly precious.

If a Christian encounters trouble, it is not because of being suppressed by "apotropaic magic" or afflicted by a "descending head" curse. There is only one reason: failure to diligently keep and obey God's word, resulting in a curse.

Over the years, I have ministered to some Christians, some of whom are my good friends, but I cannot mention curses to them. The moment I do, they turn against me. For example, if someone develops cancer and I say, "You are under a curse," they become angry and retort, "You are the one who is cursed!"

So, what exactly is a curse? Zechariah states that those under a curse are not necessarily unbelievers, but believers! Therefore, the theme of this chapter is "God will bring the curse into the house of the wicked."

Does "the wicked" refer to Christians or unbelievers? Ponder and consider this carefully. I believe it is more likely to refer to believers! Unbelievers, after all, are already living under a curse from birth. To whom is the Bible written? It is written to believers! It has little relevance to unbelievers.

A Curse Going Out Over the Whole Land

Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. (Zechariah 5:1-3)

Reading this, we still cannot discern whether those under the curse are Christians or unbelievers. Let us continue reading:

I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof. (Zechariah 5:4)

When we read the phrase "him that sweareth falsely by my name," we understand. Is "swearing falsely by God's name" something done by believers or unbelievers? It is certainly done by believers!

Reading the first three verses of this chapter, we know that God has established a principle: if you diligently keep and obey God's word, you will surely be blessed; if you do not diligently keep and obey God's word, you will surely be cursed. This statement must be addressed to believers, making belief a rather critical matter.

If a person believes but does not know what they believe in, and does not diligently keep and obey God's word, it is simply a tragedy in life. I consider it a great sorrow! Let us reflect on ourselves. What do we see in this world? If all we see in ourselves are curses, misfortunes, and bad things, and we do not see God's promises and blessings, why is this the case for believers?

"For every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it." This means that stealing God's offerings is a very dangerous thing. I am not trying to scare you; you must not only hear what I say but also experience it for yourself.

Sometimes, in ministry, the difficulty lies in people thinking that I am trying to take their money! When I see unblessed Christians, I feel very saddened. I originally wanted to remind them, "You are cursed because you do not tithe." But they say, "I do tithe!" In that case, should I desperately try to prove that they are not tithing?

You must know that tithing is a matter of course because the air you breathe is created by God, and the grain you eat comes from seeds created by God, and God does not charge you for them. Our tithing is itself a declaration: I live by every word that comes from the mouth of God, not by money. If you cannot overcome the hurdle of tithing and yet be a Christian, you are certainly finished!

Over the years, I have seen some Christians. You might say they do not tithe, but they drop a little change into the offering box; you might say they tithe, but they do not tithe according to God's word. Some tithe one percent, some tithe five percent, and even more abominable are those who tithe nine percent, but God's word says that a tenth belongs to God.

If you keep what should be offered to God in your own hands, it is difficult to be blessed! Because you have stolen God's offerings and kept them in your hands, they become "devoted things." Do not think that "devoted things" are only the utensils used in pagan religions. The most important "devoted thing" is what belongs to God but you greedily keep in your own hands.

There are many such examples. When the Israelites conquered the city of Jericho, God commanded them to dedicate everything in the city to Him. But a man named Achan saw some good things and kept them for himself, and these things became devoted things. As a result, the Israelite army began to suffer defeats, so "devoted things" are very powerful.

Who are the thieves and those who swear falsely by His name? They are those who swear falsely by God's name. For example, some Christians often say, "You should believe me because I am a Christian, I am your brother or sister." Be aware that this statement is not far from swearing falsely!

Never ask people to believe you in the name of God, because you are not worthy of being believed. So be careful when saying similar things. Some people say, "The words I speak on this platform all come from God." This is nonsense! Brothers and sisters, never believe such words, and do not even believe my words too much. You must examine them carefully yourselves.

As a result, you will find that there are many curses going out over the whole land. Therefore, if you are to be a Christian, be a resounding Christian, or do not be one at all! If you are a Christian but are not blessed, then you must change. If you do not want to change, then you might as well worship idols.

Some people say, "Worshiping idols also brings curses." In fact, those who do not believe well are all finished! Where do curses come from? They come from God! If you read the Bible carefully, you will find that God has been cursing people since Genesis! Who cursed Adam and Eve? Not the devil, but God! So is this logic not straightforward?

Someone says, "That is the Old Testament!" Actually, the New Testament is also very direct! "If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed." The consequences are severe! So I hope you do not believe my words, but study the Bible carefully. This is very important. You must carefully examine what you are experiencing.

Our God is always faithful, and He longs to bestow blessings upon us. Brothers and sisters, do not be foolish. Which is better, to be blessed by God or to steal God's offerings? Is this not obvious? If you are to be a Christian, you must be a resounding Christian.

The "flying roll" is 20 cubits long and 10 cubits wide. A cubit is about half a meter, so the roll is about fifty square meters, enough to write many words. So I think this flying roll could probably contain the entire book of Deuteronomy! At the same time, I guess this flying roll is probably Deuteronomy 28:15 to the end, that not keeping and obeying brings curses, and not keeping what brings what kind of curse... This is all clearly stated.

Among them, "sicknesses great, and of long continuance, and sore plagues, and of long continuance," these are all curses. "Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee." So the history of the Israelites is a history of serving enemies. The curse that goes out over the whole land is very powerful!

God Will Bring This Curse Into the House of the Wicked

The wicked are those who do not diligently keep and obey God's word and those who do not believe God's word. Those who believe in God are righteous, but we must distinguish how they believe. Some people hold stolen offerings of God in their hands and still say they are righteous. Is this not outrageous? So God brings this curse into the house of the wicked.

I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof. (Zechariah 5:4)

Based on my past observations, returning to a very fundamental point, why did I establish a church? Because in the past, it was too difficult for me to find a church that suited my taste. I saw many tragedies in those churches. Without saying much, you may know more than I do. There are too many tragedies in churches! According to statistics, the proportion of pastors who get cancer is twice that of the general population, which is very deadly! The proportion of Christians who get serious illnesses is also not small. These are all "sicknesses great, and of long continuance, and sore plagues, and of long continuance."

There was a young preacher who got cancer in his thirties, which was quite tragic! Then he started treatment. The doctor told him, "This medicine is effective for sixty percent of people." After he used it, he asked God, "God, why am I in the forty percent?"

Later, the doctor prescribed another medicine for him and said, "Although this medicine is expensive, it is effective for ninety percent of people." As a result, he fell into the ten percent again, and he questioned God, "God, why is this happening?"

The deadliest thing in the world is when a person lives under a curse, acts as a wicked person, and still feels that they are not wicked. Until now, many brothers and sisters still cannot explain why brothers and sisters are cursed. The Chinese Mingding Doctrine that I founded is actually working hard to interpret this phenomenon.

In this chapter, we talked about "God will bring this curse into the house of the wicked, and will consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof." After listening to this, you may feel very scared, but should you not have been scared long ago? Do you have to wait until you are destroyed to remember? Would that not be even more tragic?

We must fear God. All things on earth must fear God. Know that God is great and awesome, great in power, and great in glory. Christians must establish the concept of curses and think about why curses come upon themselves. Do not feel that you are always right, but always feel that you are wrong. If you always feel that you are wrong, then everything will be easy to handle.

The Measuring Basket Is the Shape of Wickedness Throughout the Land

Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth. (Zechariah 5:5-6)

The measuring basket is the shape of wickedness throughout the land. Brothers and sisters, we must know the concept of the measuring basket. The curse enters the house of the wicked, so what does the wicked look like? In fact, the wicked look like a measuring basket. What does a measuring basket look like? A measuring basket is like a weight, a bushel, or a jar.

God hates weights that are of two kinds, large and small. This is called a measuring basket. God also hates bushels that are of two kinds, large and small. A jar is also a measuring basket. The measuring cylinders and measuring cups in chemical experiments are all measuring baskets. Why is the measuring basket the shape of wickedness throughout the land? I only knew this after reading Zechariah, and only then did I have this concept.

People are very interesting. I used to minister to a couple who argued in front of me. The husband spoke first and said, "She looks at my problems with a microscope, magnifying even the smallest problems thousands of times, but she looks at her own problems with a reducing glass." This shows that his wife is very picky.

Be careful, we humans have a very evil thing, which is that we use two different standards for our own requirements and for the requirements of others. The requirements for others are very high, but we use different weights for our own requirements. So it is said that the measuring basket is the shape of wickedness throughout the land.

How do we judge whether a person is wicked? We look at what yardstick they use to measure others. When God's yardstick measures us, it is a great grace! Although we are worthless and full of corruption, God has forgiven our transgressions.

The Bible tells a story: A man owed a rich man a thousand taels of silver, and the rich man forgave his debt. As a result, another person owed this man one tael of silver, but he grabbed him and would not let go, wanting to drag him to the government. The rich man saw this and said, "I forgave you a thousand taels of silver, but you grabbed someone who owed you one tael and would not let go!" So the measuring basket is the shape of wickedness throughout the land.

We must know, what yardstick are we using to measure others? I must tell everyone that those who often feel they are absolutely right always think others have wronged them; they have never wronged anyone else. Wouldn't that be close to becoming mentally ill? Feeling that everyone in the world owes you something, as if you have made a great contribution to the world, worthy of a Nobel Prize. There are so many people like that!

So, how can we distinguish such people? We look at their emotional state. If you find yourself fitting the description, I thank God for it, because if it applies to you, you will realize the need to repent. If you feel it doesn't describe you, I also thank God, indicating you are doing well. I have a very clear understanding of this logic.

Like some brothers and sisters, I serve them diligently and without complaint, yet they feel I have wronged them. Doesn't that seem strange? One day, a sister said to me, "Teacher, please don't talk about her anymore; she already feels very sorry for you!"

I said, "If she feels sorry for me, would she still give me a sour look? Is that what you call feeling sorry for me?" Silly child! She feels I have wronged her; otherwise, why would she give me a sour look?

If she felt sorry for me, and I helped her, dealt with her problems, and she felt I was very gracious, would she still give me a sour look? No! The logic is clear. The sister who advised me is too naive!

Why would this sister say that to me? Because the sister I was serving gave me a sour look but kept saying she was sorry for me. Can you imagine how confused the advising sister's mind was? In reality, what the served sister said was false.

The measuring container is shaped like wickedness everywhere. You can tell if someone is wicked by the standard they use to measure things. If they discover they are wicked, they should quickly repent! Some people feel God has wronged them, that God owes them an apology. Some even constantly question God, "Why did this happen?" That's how the wicked are.

In this generation, how many Christians have encountered curses and, in turn, question God, "Why did you let this happen to me?" There are such people among us, feeling they are absolutely right.

I thank God because I am a learner. I often feel I haven't gotten it right. Recently, I have been working very hard because I am diligently seeking what is right. I lament that some people feel even God is wrong, but they themselves are never wrong. Where do they get such confidence?

The golden rule of Chinese Mingding Doctrine is: How did I not get it right? What part did I not get right? Why did I end up like this? Once you have this golden rule, it becomes easy! To assess your right and wrong, just compare yourself with God's word, and you will find you are far off.

Those who are critical really need to repent. They look at others' problems with a microscope but look at their own problems with a magnifying glass, or even ignore them. Isn't that wickedness? After listening to this Bible study, you must know that God will bring a curse into the house of the wicked. The wicked are like a measuring container, using different sized measures to measure people.

Once, when I was casting out demons, the demon started speaking. It was a weasel spirit. It said, "Do you remember your fourth uncle?" I said, "I remember." It said, "Do you know how he died?" I said, "I know."

My fourth uncle was killed by a car in the 1960s. It was very strange. In the 1960s, there was no self-driving technology, not even "Xiaomi SU7," not even "Xiaomi SU1." There wasn't even the "Xiaomi" brand; there was only "coarse corn." But how could he be killed by a car back then? Very strange!

The demon said, "Actually, he wasn't killed by a car; I killed him." I asked, "Why did you kill him?" It replied, "Because he didn't worship me."

It continued, "Do you know your aunt?" I said, "I know." It said, "Do you know she has asthma?" I said, "I know." It said, "Do you know why she has asthma?" I said, "I don't know." It said, "Because she used 'uneven scales to cheat people.'" This is a common saying, referring to using different weights for buying and selling.

I thought, God is truly amazing! Yet some people do things that even demons can't stand! I ask you, if demons can't stand it, can God stand it? If demons can't tolerate it, can God tolerate it? The weasel demon continued, "One of their ancestors was a concubine in the imperial palace and was favored by the emperor, so their family became very wealthy."

I also knew that their family became very wealthy. When China was still very poor, they had a lot of money! I found it very interesting that in the spiritual realm, weasels know about measuring containers.

With What Measure You Use, It Will Be Measured Back to You

"With what measure you use, it will be measured back to you" is a saying from Jesus Christ in the New Testament. With what measure you use, it will be measured back to you. If you measure others with a broad mind, God will measure you with a broad mind. If you use a small container to measure others, God will use a small container to measure you. How do I know this? I will read it to you:

"This is wickedness," he said. Then he pushed her back into the basket and pushed the lead cover down on it. Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth. “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me. He replied, “To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.” (Zechariah 5:7-11)

Why is a woman sitting in the measuring container? First, I am not sexist, but sisters really need to be careful. Because in my ministry, I have found that brothers who work with me bring fewer problems, while sisters who work with me bring many problems. I am telling the truth; don't find fault with me. I am really speaking from my conscience.

Do sisters love God? Yes, they love God, but what is the problem? Regarding women, when God first created Adam and Eve, Eve messed things up! In the letters of the Apostle Paul, it is also found that women are naturally prone to doing this, so God puts women in the measuring container, meaning with what measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

You will find that this measuring container is so small! You are squeezed in, feeling very uncomfortable! This is especially fitting! Because with what measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

I must say with faith that our sisters have intelligence and wisdom, but they must learn to know God and know that God will bring a curse into the house of the wicked. So, when I minister, I often say to sisters, "How much I hope you can enter into blessing, but you are unlucky in everything you do. What should we do?" You must learn to fear God and love God!

We should be broad-minded and tolerant in our dealings with others. With this measure you give to others, God will give to you. With a measure of grace you give to others, God will give to you with a measure of grace! And if you give with a large measure, God will bless you with a large measure, "pressed down, shaken together, and running over," poured into your lap, with no room to contain it.

If our brothers and sisters are not blessed, there is only one reason: the measuring container is wrong. Let me repeat it again: "Not being blessed means the measuring container is wrong!" Not being blessed means being cursed. We must never do this again.

People cannot win against God in the game of measuring containers. God is both a God of blessing and a God of cursing, so you must be broad-minded. If a person's mind is not broad enough, what can they do besides harm themselves?

I tell you, in a few families, the "smog" is caused by the men, but in most families, it is caused by the women "acting up." Am I offending the sisters by saying this? If I haven't offended you, thank God for His grace to me. If I have offended you, I have no other motive; I just hope everyone can be blessed, but it is not easy for people to be blessed!

If you often think you haven't gotten it right, then it is easy to deal with. With the mindset of "I haven't gotten it right," don't push the problem onto others! Be slow to anger, less emotional, more emotionally stable, and don't always feel that it is others' fault.

I have discovered one thing: If a person doesn't know how their parents raised them and still finds fault with them while they are studying, they will surely be cursed. My assessment of people is simple; I often assess their relationship with their parents. If you can't even manage your relationship with your parents, who can you have a good relationship with?

No matter how bad your parents are, no matter how many faults they have, you have no right to criticize them! Some people say, "That's because you haven't met my mother." You can hear that they still feel they are right! This gives me a clear understanding. If you treat your mother like this, how will you treat me in the future? How can my grace to you compare to your mother's?

God Will Settle the Wicked in Their Own Place

Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth. “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me. He replied, “To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.” (Zechariah 5:9-11)

"Babylonia" in the scripture is the place where the Tower of Babel was built. The people who built the Tower of Babel were cursed by God. After they finished building the Tower of Babel, God scattered them to various places. Later, the Tower of Babel became a measure of whether people pursue worldly values and promote their own names.

Why do people use different measures to measure others? The reason is simple: they have taken a worldly path, taking worldly things too seriously. So, people use different measures to measure others. They put worldly things in the measuring container. Later, they built houses there. When the houses were ready, God settled them there, letting them be cursed.

If a Christian takes the path of the Tower of Babel, no matter how big a church they build, no matter how high the cross on the church is, as long as they are taking the path of the Tower of Babel, they will surely be cursed! God has prepared a place for them to build their houses, to fill up the curse, and then settle them in it.

Everyone must think about it. God has also prepared houses for us, but are those houses cursed or blessed? So, the Lord Jesus has prepared a place for us and also prepared a place in Babylonia for others, which is to settle all the wicked in their own place. They are cursed when they are alive, and they are cursed when they die. The Tower of Babel is vanity of vanities.

I lament that Babylonia is the place to settle them. Some people even feel that letting them build houses and waiting for the houses to be ready is a good thing? But the houses are filled with curses.

I will tell you a very strange phenomenon. When I first believed in the Lord, there was a couple in a local church group who were very troublesome. They also had a child who was very strange, constantly making trouble, and no one could minister to them well.

Then the church sent some people with spiritual gifts to pray in their home. Someone had an inspiration during prayer, touched the wall, and found that it was hollow. There was a small hole, only covered with a little mud on the outside. They scraped off the mud and took out a character from inside, a charm full of curses. Finally, they found hundreds of these things in various places in the house, and they couldn't find them all.

It turned out they bought a second-hand house. The previous family must have done it. This couple finally had no choice but to sell the house. Later, I discovered that there really are haunted houses in this world. Don't disbelieve it! As for whether the charms caused these problems or the house caused these problems, I tell you, some places are cursed, and that leads to a series of problems.

I am telling a story. This couple used to be in the same group as me, so I happened to know about it. I have found that there are many phenomena in this world that cannot be explained, but it is normal for God to curse a place and for God to build a cursed house. We must remember that God will bring a curse into the house of the wicked. Everyone, think about it carefully and fear God!

We will talk about this today. May God bless everyone!
