【Bible Study】Hebrews 07: Jesus can save us till eternity

Introduction

Today, we are sharing the topic of “ Jesus can save us till eternity”. I think this is an extremely good topic to share, why we are sharing this topic? In the previous chapter, the author was talking about pursuing the point of perfection, if you were unable to enter perfection, in danger of being cursed, and in the end, you will be burned. When we are entering from not perfect to perfection, the devil will put a lie in your head, saying “ Look, you are not perfect.” This lie will trigger your emotions to aggravate your frustration and feeling not good enough.

By faith from first to last

Chapter 6 mentioned offering ourselves, imitating Abraham who offered his beloved son Isaac. God wants us to be like Abraham. Genesis 22:17 NIV – “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

When Abraham received the promises from God, some people said, “God, I am unable to offer my beloved son to you. Oh no! Oh no! Let’s forget about receiving the promises. It is too hard.” How can we enter into perfection? Today, we have to answer this question and solve this mystery. In the process to enter perfection from imperfection, Jesus has already saved us till eternity. Jesus is always helping us, this is why brothers and sisters, the God we are believing is “by faith from first to last”.

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17 NIV

If you do not give one-tenth of your offering to God, you are not considered a Christian. You have to be thankful if you are not in the curse and still ponder if you should give one-tenth of what you earned. You have not even touched the door to enter.

Today, we have to understand in the beginning you have not given your offerings but we can start to give one-tenth of what we earned as our offering and you will discover it is such a wonderful thing to do. Followed by two-tenths and offering yourself completely to God. In the process of growing up, we have to continuously improve and move to the next level. When God called Abraham, he was at the age of 75 years old and when he offered Isaac, he was 130 years old. For fifty or sixty years, Abraham held on to this hope.

We have to understand our God is “by faith from first to last”. When you believe in God and continue to pursue with all your strength running towards Him, you will see God is always your help and He will save you till the end.

It is so amazing, we have God. God has already predestined us to be victorious. Can you imagine if we are in the generation of the old testament like Abraham, Jesus had not been crucified on the cross and Abraham could still run on this path? Now, we have Jesus Christ, He will save us till the end, He is the high priest and He will always be our help at any time through our pursuit to the point of perfection. From an imperfect person to finally entering into perfection, unity with God and stepping on all things under our feet.

Possess the attitude of pursuing

If you have faith like a mustard seed, you are able to move the mountain into the sea, God will make it happen as this is by faith from first to last. Our God is a faithful God, in the beginning, we can offer a little and increase it gradually till we offer ourselves completely. As long we are not retreating but going forward pursuing as God is always our help and guides us to the point of perfection.

Christians are often living in confusion, I met a lot of people when I was shepherding they have no faith in God. I would ask them” Do you have faith like a mustard seed? They would reply, I have but I have a lot of doubts.” In fact, God had never said you should not completely have no doubts.

There was an example of people kowtowing their heads at the bottom of the Tianshan mountain in China. They would move up 3 steps and knock their head on the floor and continue to move 5 steps, kowtowing till they reached the top of Tianshan mountain. When they finally reached the peak, their foreheads were bleeding from all the excessive kowtowing. In the end, they did not receive anything and they would say, “ It must be because I am not earnest enough.” Brothers and sisters, our God is different, do not afraid of having doubts, even though you are having faith like a mustard seed, God will accomplish for you.

Our God is a good God, He wants to help till eternity, but we need to pursue His truth, keep running, never look back, and never withdraw. We should not be thinking that we are at the point of perfection as this is an opportunity for the devil to accuse us. We should think and believe what God has done for us and the devil cannot accuse us.

Holding to our faith is what we believe and we are based on a belief of faith-based. Though we are able to give ourselves completely and we a step closer to God. Thanking God for giving us His Grace when we offer ourselves to Him. Today, brothers and sisters commence with offering one-tenth of what you earn to God, let God knows you have a heart of loving Him and you shall see your blessed days are about to begin.

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10 NIV

In the book of Malachi chapter 3 verse 10 was talking about God is testing us and after you give one-tenth of tithe, you will be blessed. What is more, if you give two-tenths, your blessings will be even greater. Remember not to have a transactional mentality thinking of trading with God, you will not be blessed. Our God is the ruler of the universe.

When we say, we want to rely on God and constantly pursue to grow, giving tithes, sowing the seed, and, investing in God’s kingdom to have a good return so I would like to invest more. What is an investment? In investment everyone hopes for a return, worldly investment is risky but investment in God’s kingdom is risk-free. Our God wants to save us forever, we can start with tithing and then strive for perfection. We give ourselves completely to be holy and God deems us acceptable.

Jesus the highest priest

To the Jewish Christians, they were confused as they already had Aaron as their high priest. And why was Jesus Christ the high priest? If I am Jewish, I will be confused too as in the bible it is clearly stated that Aaron was the high priest and we have to abide by the law. Let us follow Aaron and believe in Jesus Christ, that is pretty good. We are double insured by both high priests.

In fact, the double insured is not secured at all. These are two different covenants, the old testament was only a shadow, Jewish are thinking to abide by the law to believe in Jesus Christ. How can they continue to walk through? They are unable to walk through it. If you want both Aaron and Jesus, you will be in deep trouble. That was the reason why the author had written the book of Hebrews, writing from the beginning to chapter 7, to give us arguments time after time that God has raised up a high priest beyond the testament priests.

If there was a priest who was superior to Aaron’s ranking of the old testament according to Melchizedek’s ranking of a new priest and the old priest would not be needed. Why? Jesus Christ is truly the High Priest who can save us forever and bring us to completion.

We have to understand the confusion that the Jewish was getting themselves into, they were stepping on two boats, on one foot they were loving the world and on the other foot, they love God. If you are the same as the Jewish, you are able to keep going. Our Lord Jesus Christ had ascended to heaven and He has become a High priest for us. He prayed for us and He would save us to the end.

Today let us run forward with this hope, and God is beginning to fulfill His wonderful plan in us because of the choice in our hearts and our minds. What could be better? Knowing that Jesus Christ is truly a treasure, and if we choose to believe in Jesus Christ alone, we will see God's grace in us Jesus has ascended to heaven, which is why we pray for healing, and almost all of us are set free. It is not you who is perfect that was healed, it is you who choose to believe at the beginning that you would be healed. Before you reach perfection, you are vigorously striving to pursue it, and not because you have reached completion then you pursue it.

The writer of the book of Hebrews continually tells Jewish Christians how to enter into God’s grace. If we have one foot on the law ad the other on the promise, we cannot go on. The writer wrote this sentence below.

The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless. Hebrews 7: 18 NIV

Do you understand? How important is this verse? The law was weak and useless, during Jesus’s time, Israel was destroyed, Judah was destroyed, and became the Roman empire and Palestine. The old testament brought a serious issue and Israelites could not fulfill the law. We have to fully understand that it was showing us that nothing can be achieved by the law.

Faith like a mustard seed

This is what we are going to share today, Jesus Christ is the one we believe in, is a wonderful thing! If we have faith like a mustard seed and we will receive amazing grace. One mustard seed can turn into 100,000 mustard seeds. If we have only one mustard seed we can accomplish big things so can you imagine 100,000 mustard seeds and how many things you can accomplish? Everyone of us have to understand the faith of Jesus Christ is by faith from first to last, and do not believe the devil’s words saying there should not be confusion. Why did I not see there are no people without confusion? At least I know I am not one of them.

I am still a little confused and when I was feeling pressurized, I would say to God “ Oh God, my God, come and take me away.” We are frequently facing a lot of challenges, and when we see difficulties, we feel desperate and despondent. Then we will call to God “Please help me quickly, God.”

We have one high priest; He is Jesus Christ and is our hope. It is so wonderful to know that Jesus Christ is our hope. If we have such hope, we can run calmly and fearlessly to strive to enter the completed road. If we have such amazing hope, we will cling to our God. We know we are not perfect yet but our God will never forsake us.

We are aware that our God will never forsake us, how can we ignore such a great salvation? How can we not endure all kinds of temptations? How can we not keep learning and improving ourselves? When we are weak and God is always there to help us. Occasionally when we are weak, we have to come back to God in His arms and He will make us strong. How awesome is our God!

Rely on the power of God

According to the human point of view, some of our brothers and sisters are not wise people, not capable people, and not many honorable people. Our God wants to destroy the wisdom of the wise people as well as abandon the wisdom of the intelligent people. The worldly people cannot understand God by using their own wisdom.

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:26-30 NIV

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2: 4-5 NIV

Do you hear that? You see yourself as nothing and God will definitely do wonderful things in you with His Holy Spirit and power. Our faith does not rest in human wisdom, not in human dignity, and not in human ability but in God’s power. Our God likes to show us His glory through our weaknesses. What a beautiful promise!

A simple heart to love God is to see through all things

No matter how incompetent you are my brothers and sisters, God wants your heart to love Him simply. God had prepared for those whom He loves Him that the eyes have not seen, the ears have not heard and the hearts have not missed. God has revealed to us through Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, we are able to comprehend, if a person is so brainless in the workplace before how is that person able to perform so well now? All because of the power of God and when God is with you there is nothing that is impossible. Isn’t that wonderful news?

Listen carefully to me brothers and sisters, not based on your talent, not based on your wisdom, not based on your eloquence in your communication but it is based on God’s spirit moving in you. He wants to accomplish a beautiful plan for you and this is our Jesus Christ.

Brothers and sisters, today, please walk out from your ability, your own way, and your own strategy but rely on Lord Jesus Christ to enter into perfection. God is looking at your heart and your faith in Him, not your way, not your strategy, and not your capability.

Offerings can start slowly and gradually, I would encourage brothers and sisters to start to give one-tenth of what you earn, follow by giving two-tenths, and offer yourselves completely. Serve our God with all your heart, strength, and mind. We will surely see our God putting us above all nations and all things will be trampled under our feet. That is exactly God’s intention He will save us till the end.

We have to put our hope in God and believe in His promises. Do be afraid when we are weak. Even if you are weak, stop where you are, God will come to save you. Lift our heads high and look at Jesus Christ who wants to save us till eternity. You can be shedding tears, blood, and sweat but you cannot lose faith in him, who will save you forever and ever. Amen!
