【Bible Study】Hebrews 01: How honorable to be called the son of God

Man is superior to Angels

In the book of Hebrews, the author was emphasizing to us in chapter one on how honorable to be called the son of God. If we read the next chapter two verse 1, it further explained if we are not aware of how upstanding we are to be given the name as the son of God. Using angels as a standard to compare man to them which will lead to confusion.

One of our sisters shared with us about reading a famous book written by a famous person and used the book of Jude as a very misleading reference. The writer stated that Archangel Michael dared not offend the devil. Who are we? Are we not able to cast out demons? That made me wonder are a man not superior to an angel or if are angel superior to a man or if the devil is superior to Man.

But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you! Jude 1:9 NIV

The author of the book of Hebrews was facing many oppressions from Jewish as they strongly believed in angels. Jewish believed that angels are very honorable and way superior to Man. The Jewish were perplexed and the author was rectifying the incorrect perspective.

Many people are obsessed with studying angels and devils. We have to change our perspective and know knowing where we are standing. Who are superior, angels or us? Therefore, the author of the book of Hebrews is writing to highlight to us that we are superior to Angels and are ranked as superior to angels.

I have heard from some theologians that the author of the book of Hebrews might be Paul as the views were similar to those of his other books. Many of us will be pondering why Paul’s name was not mentioned. Paul was writing this book to the Jewish but they hated him with a passion. If the Jewish found out that Paul was the author, they would not be bothered to read it.

The Jewish has the tradition of worshipping the angels. Paul would like to bless the Jewish by writing the book of Hebrews to deliver the message about God bringing his firstborn into the world and Man is very honorable and highly regarded by God.

We are united with Jesus Christ as one

In the book of Hebrew from chapter one, the author was clarifying about the mystery of the Jews worshipping the angels.

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4 NIV

We must understand that Man is superior to angels and we must look highly at our status as the son of God. Looking at Hebrews chapter 1, verses one to four, many people interpreted as this referring to Jesus Christ but it was referring to Jesus, his brethren as well as all those who followed Him.

We have to look closely and study the bible carefully. God brought His only son to the world to save and bring all his sons who belong to Him to His Kingdom. Our sins are washed away with Jesus’s precious blood so that we can receive God’s salvation and walk with Jesus. We have to understand our relationship with Jesus is an inseparable relationship, we and Jesus are one.

Jesus Christ came to the world as a man, this represents God’s love for us to unite man and God to become one. That is also the foundation of our faith in God. We are created in the image of God. Whose image were angels created like? God did not mention it in the bible. It is very obvious that God created man in his image, therefore, we have His likeness and through Jesus Christ’s sufferings, we are saved. We are restored in the image of God.

Angels are unable to rebuke the devils but we are different as we are created in the image of God. The Jews like to glorify the angels but in Hebrews chapter one verse fourteen “ Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” **We are certain by this verse that we are ranked higher and more valuable than angels. God’s plan is to unite his spirit with His people and if God’s spirit is in us, we are united with God as one. God’s spirit is in us and we will have rest.

“ This is what the Lord says: Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?” Isaiah 66:1

God’s dwelling place is where we can find rest, a place we will be remorseful of our sinful ways and pleased God.

Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. Isaiah 66:2

God is building a temple, those who tremble with fear of God’s words have formed a holy temple. This is the new Jerusalem, which God had mentioned many times in the bible to remind us.

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Ephesians 1:22-23 NIV

God’s amazing plan is His church. Many people concluded that Jesus brought up God’s kingdom umpteen times but merely stated twice about the church in the bible. In the New Testament, Paul attained God’s revelation regarding about church as the church is the body of Christ.

His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms Ephesians 3:10 NIV

to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:21 NIV

The above verses from Ephesians are telling us that God’s church is built according to God’s words and is God’s holy temple.

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.” But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” Hebrews 1:5-9

In Hebrews, chapter one verses 5 to 9 are telling us that God has a plan which is the building of God’s glorious church and that is God’s temple. When we have God’s temple, we are united as one and God’s spirit will be in the church. We have to build the church not according to our ways and desires but according to God’s words and His desire. We become God’s children because of Jesus. Now, I hope everyone understands the ranking of the angels, they are only working for God to serve us.

One important component, we have to understand devil and Satan were created by God, they are also working under God. If we have the status of being God’s son, we do not have to bother whether they are angels, devils, or Satan as they are only working under God. We must not belittle ourselves on our status as God’s children. God has already given us the authority to rebuke the devils just like Jesus coming to the world to cast out the demons. Jesus came to the world in the form of a man with God’s spirit, God’s power to command the devils to go out of us.

Jesus Christ had endured all the sufferings for us, through Him we are set free, and since we are the body of Christ, we have inherited the status of God’s son. We have also inherited the authority and power from God to shine. If we comprehended God created the world to manifest His glory, we are God’s glorified vessel and uphold everything in the world with His powerful commands. We put everything under our footstool.

The devils and angels are sent by God to serve those who inherited the salvation

Jesus had cleansed our sins, we are united with Jesus as one to receive this honorable name which is superior to the angel. Our relationship with Jesus is a unified relationship, not a separate relationship. There is nothing in this world that can separate from God’s love. Our salvation is to acquire God’s destiny, restore God’s image and become a blessing to many people.

to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:10-14 NIV

Let us look at the above verses, through us God is manifesting His glory, we are chosen which was predestined by God and we follow according to His plan so that we can praise His glory. This is why Jesus and we are united as one.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:17-21 NIV

Many people thought the above verses from Ephesians are talking about Jesus but in fact, it was talking about the church becoming the body of Christ. It was talking about being holy, a glorious church, and putting everything under our feet to praise God for His glory. The church has amazing power and authority. There are some people who interpret how churches should be and what they are saying based on their own opinions.

It was sad to see when someone in the church who was suffering from cancer passed away, the church members would comment that this person is a good person and would twist the fact that this was a blessing from God. What they had said was not the truth from God but was to console the person and the family unfortunately, this was not mentioned in the bible. Brothers and sisters, I encourage that from today onwards, we should be trembling with fear of God’s words ponder hard on His words and read the bible very well.

Many people are criticizing Jacob as a scammer and due to his actions, he was scammed too. Have you read in the bible that Jesus or Paul criticized Jacob? No. We have to ask ourselves if Jacob was a scammer and why God declared blessings on Jacob. If Jacob had done something not pleasing to God, God would have punished him instead Jacob was blessed by God.

We have to tremble with fear in God’s words

We have to be like Jesus Christ, rebuke the devils, and set people free. When someone turns to God and we have to set them free from the manipulation of the devils. The only way, we can be set free is to get rid of the devils in us. We have to tremble with fear in God’s words and receive the same authority and power as Jesus Christ. We cast out demons and rebuke the devils in the name of Jesus Christ.

And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16: 17-18 NIV

In Mark chapter 16 and verses 17 to 18 tell us that we are a group of God’s warriors speaking a new tongue, casting out demons, setting people free, and healing the sick. The devils are only a tool that God is using to train us who are receiving His salvation, to have faith in Him, to use God’s given power and authority to win the battles against the devils. We have nothing to fear as we have God’s power and authority to trample everything under our feet. This is our destiny given by God.

He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” To which of the angels did God ever say, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Hebrews 1: 10-13

The above verses are to articulate God’s destiny and that our position within God’s Kingdom hierarchy is superior to angels. We have to set free those who are in bondage and healed the sick.

We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. Hebrews 1: 1-5 NIV

Nothing can stop or snatch away from us to accept our destiny; this is a glorified and honorable crown given by God to us. Our desire is to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, to sacrifice ourselves even though our lives to fulfill God’s plan for us. We are following Jesus Christ to enter the eternal lives as God’s honorable son. Amen! May God bless you and your family.
