【Bible Study】Hebrews 06: Keep on Pursuing to the point of perfection

Introduction

In the book of Hebrew chapter 6, the main topic is to keep pursuing the point of perfection. In this chapter, the author was conveying the concept of striving to achieve the point of perfection. This idea was presented throughout the book of Hebrews. Hebrews Chapter 5 is telling about learning to grow up and becoming mature. This chapter is about striving to reach the point of perfection.

Learning to grow up and become mature is insufficient so the author pushes to the point of completion. I believe if the author is still alive, he would not mind talking once again about the book of Hebrews. This generation of Christians is more suitable to study the book of Hebrews as they do not wish to learn or enjoy letting their thoughts run wild, they are unwilling to pursue perfection but like to be a loser.

You and I have to clearly understand that we are holding a treasure. It is a pity if you are holding a treasure and you are not striving to pursue perfection. A loser engineer cannot do anything, building the house and it will collapse, a loser Christian’s life will be a failure, a loser doctor will cause complications to their patients and a loser lawyer will be defeated in court. The life of a loser is miserable and a loser Christian is no exception.

I encouraged everyone no matter what you are doing, to ensure they fully understand why you are doing it. A good Christian keeps on pursuing to the point of completion. If your heart agrees that this is what I should do, I guarantee your life will be full of excitement.

I want to be like Jesus, Jesus touched the sick and was healed immediately. Jesus commanded Peter to go to the lake and throw out his line. “Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” Matthew 17:27 Jesus used five loaves of bread and two fish to feed five thousand people. We have found a treasure and if we can be like Jesus, our life will be so wonderful.

In the evening, I received a phone call from one of the brothers. I could hear her daughter crying in the background but was barely able to hear him talking. He knew that I could solve his problem. Many people might be wondering if it is possible to discipline children through the phone. This child has been spoiled rotten by her grandparents. She was crying hysterically. I guided and taught this brother how to handle her daughter. I told him to hand over the phone to her.

The first question that I asked was “ Do you know who am I?” She said, “I do not know.” I told her that “ I am the pastor of your dad and mum.” I started to discipline her very briefly, prayed with her and, she stopped crying. I am very good at solving children’s issues. We are thousands of kilometers away and through a phone call, we are still able to solve the problem. The parents dealing were at a loss dealing with their daughter, merely through a phone call, her hysterics were resolved. God has given us a priceless treasure which is so amazing.

During the journey to pursue completion, I put in a lot of effort and hard work. If you ask me if I have reached completion, my answer is “No”. The road in front of me is full of wonderful things ahead of me. I said to God, “God, you are so good. My spirit is longing for you. I want to pursue your way. You have given me a priceless treasure. Serving you my whole life is such an honor.” I cannot imagine my life without God.” I am so touched that God has given me such wonderful, great salvation to depend on him and live in His image. Why are there so many people resolving problems who have different abilities? The reason is the level of their pursuit to the point of perfection is at a different level.

Pursuing to the point of perfection is your understanding, is all in our head do we understand the truths. If we are not able to comprehend, we are living in a state of ignorance. Let’s look at Hosea chapter 4 verse 6;

my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children. Hosea 4:6 NIV

We have to continue to build up our foundation. It is like building a house, if the foundation has not been built properly, we are unable to have a strong and durable house to live in. We cannot stay in the beginning stage of the words of Christ, the beginning is not God’s purpose but keep on pursuing to the point of perfection is God’s purpose for us.

Where did I get the revelation? Once, I was reading “The Final Quest Trilogy” by Rick Joyner, and God’s revelation was upon me. Chapter one of “The Final Quest Trilogy” was written about The Hordes of Hell Are Marching, the battle, and the struggle between Church and the hordes is a lost battle. The description is exactly the same as when I first built the Church. The book also describes on the mountain there were ledges at different levels and on each level, the ledges became narrower and more difficult to stand on. That is why we have to keep on pursuing to the point of perfection to understand God’s purpose.

There are no limitations to knowing God and every single day we have to keep on pursuing to the point of perfection. Your life will be full of greatness, continue to climb the mountain of Jehovah, this was a vision from Rick Joyner in his book. In Isaiah chapter two, there is a verse as follows.

In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. Isaiah 2:2-3 NIV

Please do not think of the mountain as the reality mountain we can see with our eyes, the mountain is referring to the spiritual mountain. We have to understand our God is a spirit, worshipping and praying to Him earnestly with our spirit. Why do we have to be earnest? As we have to understand, we know means we know and if we do not know means we do not know. We have to progress from the beginning level of knowing the words of Christ to the level of pursuing the point of perfection.

Leave the beginning level of knowing the Words of Christ

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so. Hebrews 6:2-3 NIV

In the past, I used to think that repentance from acts that lead to death, faith in The Lord, baptism, laying on hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment were of high learning and in actual fact, it is elementary learning in the Bible. It is only the beginning of the words of Christ require to progress beyond.

We can continue the foundation learning but that is insufficient learning. Having the holy spirit fill us up is only part of it but pursuing to the point of completion is our ultimate destination. We can have all different types of rites, laying on hands, the resurrection of the dead, and what is pursuing to the point of perfection? It is to be like Jesus Christ. I believe If I keep on pursuing, wanting to be like Jesus Christ, and I will gradually reach the point of perfection. It is so wonderful.

Experiencing God does not mean anything

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Hebrews 6:4-6 NIV

What did the author try to convey the message to us? The author is telling us when we experience God is only at the lowest level like an infant. In fact, testimony should be told by the person who is shepherding not by the one who was healed.

Can anyone tell me when you first came to Christ who had never experienced God? Anyone who was still a spiritual infant not been fed by God? Has anyone come out of Egypt and not been given provisions? The answer is too obvious but that experiences do not mean anything. As a Christian, it is important to be competent in shielding your sword in battle and being able to fight in the spiritual warfare that will be taken into account. That is also the reason to keep pursuing to grow into maturity and to the point of completion.

Many Christians like to write about going to heaven and what they had seen in hell as their testimony. This kind of testimony does not mean anything and what can these testimonies do? The author of the book of Hebrews said if you have fallen away and what will your consequences be? They will be unable to repent and many people fall in this situation. They like to hear God’s voice talking to them and asking them to do this and that. Honestly experiencing all these means nothing.

Recently, there is one older sister came to me and told me about her experience with God. She told me after she prayed her daughter who is a secondary teacher won a prize. This kind of testimony means nothing at all as it is only God’s grace.

I would like to remind everyone not to be proud of the grace, they received from God. There are many people who came to us who have received enormous grace from God. Not because you are good is all because our Church has won many battles in the spiritual world.

When you are not pursuing to the point of completion, you will leave the truth and what will your ending be?

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned. Hebrews 6:7-8 NIV

From the verses above, we can see that God wants us to keep on pursuing to the point of completion and hoping we will look more and more like Him. Our God has been watering us and giving us boosters for our soil in the hope of us growing up. If you remain at the same level and do not grow eventually you will grow thorns.

If God gives you lesser and He will expect lesser from you. If God gives you a lot and he will also expect more from you and all these will be within your reach. No matter in which age group you are, God wants all of us to keep on pursuing to the point of completion. Why? You might ask. It is to ensure our life will be transformed into wonderfulness.

Our God wants us to live well, to live wonderfully, to live prosperously and our God does not us to be a loser. Brothers and Sisters if we do not deal with our loser attitude, even if we do not deal with you but God will deal with you, and please do not say I am saved anyway. Who is giving you the judgment? Please see the verses below.

Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. Hebrews 6:9 NIV

For these people, it is not easy to come to Christ as they were in the midst of persecution. The author said it was better things as they are closer to salvation. If you are pursuing hard enough, brothers and sisters, you are a loser who ignores such great salvation and let the salvation slip through your fingers. What kind of fruit will you bear in the end? How can you run away from sins?

Imitate those who uphold the promises

If experiencing God is nothing and what should we do? We have to imitate those who uphold the promises.

We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Hebrews 6:11-12 NIV

We have to understand, today we are upholding the promises to fulfill the promises. Our promises are faithful in Jesus Christ, no matter how much it will be. God’s promises are wonderful. If you are in the pharmaceutical industry, your medicine can never be compared to Jesus Christ. If you are in the creative industry, your creativity can never be compared to Jesus. If you are in the engineering industry, your engineering abilities can never be on par with Jesus’s. Jesus is our life treasure and the promises He has given us are superabundant.

When you are performing healing deliverance from the oppression of the demonic, you have to endure one second more than the devil. Deep down in your heart, you have to clearly know God undoubtedly rises up and does the healing. God surely will listen to our prayers; we persevere until we fulfill God’s promises. Do not be lazy, do not slacken, and be diligent until the promise is fulfilled.
Taking God’s promises must be ongoing as stated in Hebrews 6, when referring to God’s promise to Abraham, it said.

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Hebrews 6:13-15 NIV

The cleverest person was Abraham, he held up God’s promises and was the person who open the path of holding up God’s promises. Abraham was not lazy or slack. He was gracious, and diligent till God’s promises were fulfilled. His patience paid off to receive all of God’s promises. God will not change His will. God swore upon His name and He is a faithful God.

Looking at Abraham after yearning for a son for over twenty years and finally he had Isaac. God told Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. By faith, Abraham walked with Isaac for three days to the mountain and prepared the woodfire to sacrifice His beloved son. Can you imagine how Abraham was feeling when Isaac asked “Father, the fire and wood are here but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham must be crying and said, “ Silly boy, you are the lamb.” Isaac understood that he was that lamb.

Though Isaac was the beloved son of Abraham, he was very smart as he could offer Isaac and do what God said. Abraham did not have second thoughts and offered his son to God as an offering. Abraham and Isaac had entered together into the point of perfection. Abraham offered his most precious son to God and Isaac offered himself to God. Both of them had no regrets about entering the point of perfection.

Abraham experienced God in his lifetime and at this point he has gone to the point of completion, to hold up the promises. Why? Why did he give up everything to God?

saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” Hebrews 6:14 NIV

When Abraham offered Isaac, it was a complete offering. If Abraham had offered himself, God would have said this was nothing but when he offered his beloved son, God knew he was willing to give up everything that was held dearly in his heart and entered to the point of perfection. Isaac had offered himself and he was no longer tested by God in his lifetime. Abraham was tested by God all his life until this time, God did not test him again as he had reached the point of perfection.

We have to imitate God, we have to imitate Jesus Christ and imitate Abraham to offer his most beloved son to God. If you ask me what is the difference between the old and new Testaments? The new testament is to offer ourselves just like Abraham with a willing heart to offer his beloved son Isaac as a sacrifice. To enter the point of perfection is to do your utmost best trying to step into the point of perfection. God reveals there are two things that people need the most and let us look at the verse below.

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. Hebrews 6:18 NIV

Blessed will be given a big blessing

What are the two things? Firstly, the blessed will be given big blessings. Do you know? Among our sisters and brothers, many of us were healed from sicknesses, this is only the beginning and a small blessing. What did God say? “I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies.” Do you want a small or big blessing?

I want big blessings so I have to use all my strength to pursue the point of perfection and I do not want to stop at small blessings. Small blessings are after praying I found a job, my financial situation was resolved, and my illness healed. After you found a job, your financial situation improves, and you are healed from your illness. What are you going to do? Are you continuing to be a loser, Christian? If you would like to be a loser Christian, your only blessing will be small.

Those who are listening to my sermon sharing Hebrews chapter six online, are you longing to receive the big blessings? What are the big blessings all about? It is to be a blessing to everyone in the world. We have to be someone who is a blessing to people. What an amazing blessing! When you have big blessings, you live a meaningful life. This is a choice we have to make either be a loser Christian, stop at the beginning or continue the pursuit to the point of perfection.

Whom do you want to imitate? Abraham or the criminal who was nailed together with Jesus on the Cross? God’s will is for us not to be a loser when we are still alive. God wants us to pursue the point of perfection. The criminal did not enter the point of perfection and he was only given the second best. Do not wait till you are leaving this world, you think about how important is to pursue the point of perfection. Today, let us imitate Jesus Christ and, Abraham to live a wonderful life.

Your descendants will be superabundant

Secondly, “your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky”, meaning prosperity. If you imitate Abraham your descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore just like Abraham. Everywhere in the world whoever is spreading the gospel knows who was Abraham. Abraham had laid a path for us to enter a road of faith to the point of perfection. These are the two unchangeable things that God reveals to us.

We have to carry this hope with us till the day we see God. Once we have this hope, we live for a purpose and our souls will be firm and secure entering the holy sanctuary.

Entering the holy Sanctuary

When we use all our strength to pursue the point of perfection, we are entering the holy sanctuary in which we look like God, and we will be restored in the glorious image of God. We have to follow our Lord Jesus as He is our forerunner entering the holy sanctuary on our behalf. He has become the high priest and in the order of Melchizedek.

Knowing God is such an amazing experience in our life, do not think lightly of knowing God and forsake this priceless salvation. Our life expectancy can be only seventy, or eighty years. What can we be proud of? The only thing we could mention is all about the burden we carried on our shoulders, in the blink of our eyes everything is empty and meaningless. Make your decision now, if you imitate Jesus your empty and meaningless life will become wonderful and amazing. Amen! May God bless you.
