【Bible Study】Numbers 12 - God Disciplines Senior Leadership for Moses

2018-05-27 30,378 Numbers Authority Humility Moses Army of God Victorious Army Meekness

Introduction

Ever since the Israelites left Egypt, God has never forgotten to do one thing: to rebuild the army of Jehovah from this rabble. In the previous chapter, God struck down many people with disaster. Why did God strike down these people? Because they were all those who indulged in the flesh. These people, if left in the army, would become a problem.

We must know for sure that an army must look like an army. If an army does not look like an army, like a rabble, then it's all over when it goes to the battlefield. A group of people who indulge in the flesh and are driven by material desires cannot fight at all. Today, we must not look at it from a human perspective. If a battle is lost, these Israelites, even if God does not strike them down, they will die at the hands of the enemy. So, I think this is a matter of life and death.

A Victorious Army Can Overcome the Devil and the Enemy; A Defeated Army Will Be Trampled by the Devil

You either build a victorious army or you build a defeated army. If you build a victorious army, you can overcome the enemy; but if you build a defeated army, the enemy can overcome you. So, everyone, do not look at it from a carnal perspective, you must know what God is doing. Today, we must know one thing: the kingdom of God must come with the army of God. Where there is no army, where is the nation? Which nation does not have an army? If there is no army, this nation will be trampled upon by those around them. If the kingdom of God cannot be victorious, if there is no victorious army, then it will be arbitrarily trampled upon by the devil.

Today, in the church, we see that the situation of defeat is quite common. If you want to build a defeated army, you can tolerate these greedy people, you tolerate this and tolerate that. But in the end, what is the result? The church is trampled by the devil. Why is it trampled by the devil? Because you left behind those who are defeated and corrupt the church.

Actually, in the Old Testament book of Judges, we see that Gideon took 30,000 Israelites, and God said, Too many, no good. Why are 30,000 no good? Think about it: with 30,000 people, when the enemy comes, 20,000 run away, and the remaining 10,000 cannot fight, and they will be defeated like a landslide. If 20,000 flee, the remaining 10,000 cannot hold on. As a result, with 10,000 left, God said, Still too many. In the end, 300 were chosen. Do you think 300 are better, or 30,000 are better? (See Judges 7:1-8)

Brothers and sisters, I tell you, I would rather have those victorious 300 than those defeated 30,000. This is what our church has experienced all along in the process of building. If we gather a bunch of rabble, we are indeed full of grace and full of mercy, but this group of people cannot fight. A group of defeated people gathered together will be trampled upon by the devil, and then they will ask God, God, why is this happening? God also wants to ask you! Because you left behind what should not have been left behind.

So, throughout the entire Book of Numbers, you will find that God repeatedly strikes down people in the wilderness. Why? You are either struck down by God to become a victorious army, or you are struck down by the enemy and fall under the hand of the devil. So, brothers and sisters, do not look at it from a human perspective. To build a church, build a victorious church; to build an army, build a victorious army. Can you understand my words? If you are carrying on with womanly kindness, do not blame me for saying you, you might as well just forget it. If you are a senior pastor, have built a church, and your mind is full of womanly kindness, you might as well just forget it.

Building God's Army Must Be According to God's Will

So, brothers and sisters, today you must see a victorious army, and you must have God's will in your heart. What is God's will? It is to build a victorious army. The difficulties that ordinary people give to the upper-level leader Moses, God's solution to these difficulties is very simple and crude. Do not discern good and evil with God: God, how can you be like this? Do you think you are more powerful than God? Actually, I think you might as well just forget it.

What do I mean by saying this? Today we must know that to build a victorious church, to build a victorious army of Jehovah, you must do it according to God's will. What God says, we do; what God does, we do; where God goes, we follow. This is incredible! If we build the church in this way, I am 100% sure that we can be victorious. If you do not have this kind of character, it will be very deadly. A person who builds a victorious church and is used by God must learn to listen to God's words. Not according to human will, but according to God's will. So, what did the Apostle Paul say?

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

Some people do not know that the church is God's army, thinking that the church is a place where a group of people say Hello, me good, everyone good all day long. You must know that it cannot fight like that. If it cannot fight, it will be beaten by the devil, and the consequences are predictable. I often hear people say to me, Oh, our church's pastor suddenly died, and others say, Oh, our church's pastor suddenly got cancer. Their church's pastor or their church's pastor's wife got this disease or that disease. I tell you, it is not that God made a mistake, it is because of defeat!

Today, the Chinese Mingding Destiny concept that we are conveying is to build a victorious church to become the mighty army of Jehovah God, which can trample all the devil's enemies. Just as Ephesians says:

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. (Ephesians 1:22-23)

That is, trampling on the feet of Jesus Christ, and the church is the body of Jesus Christ, so is it not trampling on the feet of the church? That is to say, the key to the victory of the church lies in whether you build according to God's will. This matter is clearly reflected from Exodus to Numbers. The theme of Numbers is to build a victorious army. Only those over twenty years old who can fight are counted. That is, what does Numbers count? It counts those who can fight. If you cannot fight, what are you? A pastor of a church told me that the members of their church are not good at casting out demons, but they are good at casting out pastors. I also often see that some members of the church are not good at casting out demons, but they are good at casting out pastors.

Brothers and sisters, you must know why the church you are in today can bless you? It is because this church is built according to God's will. In this place, you will not see womanly kindness, nor will you see reluctance, keeping people for the sake of keeping people. We are building God's mighty army, and that is an army. There was a business owner, as the general manager, whose child was terribly controlled by demons, and would have seizures every morning from 4 am to 6 am, and the seizures were quite terrifying. That day I said to my colleagues, Let's take this child to pray from three to six in the morning to see what the situation is. As a result, a large group of people rushed up, and in the end, more than 30 people were scheduled. What time is three o'clock in the middle of the night? It is the time when people are sleeping, and a large group of people actually stood up to schedule, and we may not even be able to schedule them all. In the end, many people were scheduled for each shift.

So, brothers and sisters, you can be blessed here today because of the church. Then, when you come to the church, are you willing to be a mighty warrior of Jehovah God, a special force of Jehovah God, one who can fight? Whether you can enable those who come to our church later to share in our victory depends on you. If you are a greedy person, it will be difficult for you to go on in this place; if you are a person who indulges in the flesh, it will also be difficult for you to go on. But it does not matter, you receive grace among us, and after receiving it, thank God, and we will not morally kidnap anyone. If you are willing to be a mighty army of Jehovah, then let us build together and become a blessing to the whole earth.

God Reorganizes the Senior Leadership for Moses

In the process of building a victorious church, one of the things is that in this passage of Numbers chapter 12, what is described? It is how God helped Moses to reorganize this senior management team. If this senior management team cannot be managed well, then the following is even more out of the question.

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite woman. “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard this. (Numbers 12:1-2)

These words were heard by our God. What was the result? As a result, Miriam developed leprosy, and God sent disaster upon her. Through this passage, we want to begin to understand a few things. The first thing is that the issue of authority is very important. Should Miriam manage Moses? Actually, she did not want to manage him, she was just gossiping behind his back. What she said was also very spiritual: Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn't he also spoken through us?

If you are in a senior management position, God will definitely do many things through you, but it does not mean that God does not require you to respect the authority above. If you do not respect the authority above, God will deal with you. Do you see that what Miriam said is the truth? Actually, it is the truth, but the question is, what is her motive for saying this? It is to say: You Moses are nothing more than this. God has already stipulated that you cannot marry a foreign woman, but you still married a foreign woman. Can we listen to your words? We can listen to God's words. These words were heard by God. Do you think God will stand on Miriam's side? I think if God stood on Miriam's side, we would not be able to serve God today. Why? The whole thing would be a mess.

Our God's actions are like this: He chose a leader, and the leader has problems - Moses married a Cushite woman, which was not done very well. But for Miriam to manage this matter is 'stepping on Jehovah's toes.' What does it mean to 'step on the toes'? It means that this matter was originally God's responsibility to manage. It is God's responsibility to manage Moses, and Miriam has no responsibility at all.

Today, what often happens in the church? It is that those below are eager to try to manage those above, always feeling that those above are 'no good in this or that.' This matter is very evident in the church today, but thank God, it is not the case among us. Among us, all those who are like this have been dealt with by God. So in this, we have learned very deep and painful lessons. If you want to build God's mighty army, you must experience these painful lessons. As for who are the Miriams and Aarons under your senior pastor, that is debatable. Everyone has their own right-hand men, but some people just like to gossip.

Actually, among us, if you want to be a small group leader or a pastoral district leader, whether you are a small group leader or a pastoral district leader, there is one advantage among us, which is that we all follow God's principles. We do not start to doubt the leaders we have chosen because someone below said something. For example, if someone wants to manage their leader and bring what their leader said to me, do not even think about it. You who are leaders can rest assured that I will definitely tell him that managing this person has nothing to do with you. It is my responsibility to manage him, not your responsibility to manage him. You are now committing a sin that Miriam committed, and you should get leprosy.

Everyone must know not to meddle in other people's business. We should not just look at Moses marrying a Cushite woman. What should we know? It is that you should not meddle in other people's business. If you do that, God will deal with you. In God's army, you can only manage matters within your authority. When you should be responsible, you should do well. Matters that you should not manage have nothing to do with you. How can you manage so much that you seem to be more powerful than God? Who do you think God will deal with if not you? If you are a leader, you must be careful! If a leader discerns good and evil, sees that Moses is not doing this matter well, did he not have a wife before? Why did he marry another one? He is already in his eighties, why is he still doing these things? Looking back on it, this matter is really not good, but I think Moses is really amazing. He wrote the entire Book of Numbers himself, and he wrote about marrying a Cushite woman.

Today, in our church, you must know for sure what your responsibility is. If you often manage things that you should not manage, you are a meddler. Even if your leader does not deal with you, God will deal with you. Some leaders, as long as they are one level below you, as long as they are slightly elevated, they do not know who they are. Such people can easily become Miriams. If you are a high-level leader and you have the problem of Miriam, I tell you, you are very dangerous. Do not think that God does not reign in the church. What Moses led was not a victorious army, but God still reigns and still deals with those who are disobedient.

Being a leader in the church is a high-risk profession. If you do not follow God's words and like to meddle in other people's business, your trouble will be great. You must wholeheartedly manage the things that you should manage. If you are very close to your leader, you will know all aspects of his personality and behavior very well. Moreover, Moses and Miriam are siblings. How did Moses' life come about? Moses' mother put him in a basket and let him float down the river. Miriam stood by the river and saw Pharaoh's daughter pick Moses up, and then Miriam boldly went up to recommend Moses' mother as a nanny. It is said that Miriam is also Moses' savior, so Miriam sometimes does not know who she is. You must deal with the evil habit of discerning good and evil in you. If you understand, you will know: So this is not something I should manage.

There was a member who had depression, and later we helped her to be released from depression. After she was released, one day I heard her talking to her leader. This member said, You must apologize to so-and-so. I took the phone and said, Is this something you should manage? If you think you can do my job, you come over, I will step down, and you do it. Having just been released from depression, she felt great and could tell her leader who to apologize to? Later, she wrote me a very long apology letter. I thank God that the problems in her were changed day by day, and this sister became better and better.

That is to say, we often like to manage things that we should not manage, and we cannot manage things that we should manage well, and we manage a bunch of things that we should not manage. This is a question of authority, not a question of whether this matter is right or wrong. Today, among us, as leaders, we will do things according to God's way of doing things. You can manage what you should manage, and you should not manage what you should not manage. The authority above will manage it.

Do You Know What God Values in Moses?

The Lord said, “Listen to my words: “If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” (Numbers 12:6-8)

Governing leaders is God’s business. The Lord was angry with them, and Miriam was afflicted with leprosy. The Bible also records an interesting thing: some people think this sentence was added later, but I think Moses wrote it himself. A brother and sister came to me and said, Those who say they are humble are not humble. I wondered if what they said was true. Coincidentally, that day I read that Moses was very humble. I thought, This Moses is too immodest, even writing it in the Bible. Isn't he praising himself? There must be a reason why the Bible wrote it this way; Moses wrote it this way for a reason.

Later, I discovered that our Lord Jesus also said, I am gentle and humble in heart, and you should learn from me and take my yoke. Were the Lord Jesus and Moses wrong? Later, I discovered that the Apostle Paul also said, I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews. You know how I lived among you the whole time.

Who are Moses, the Apostle Paul, and the Lord Jesus? They all say they are humble. Moses' humility is not self-inflicted humility; he completely gave up his rights and never fought for anything for himself. This is Moses' wisdom and intelligence. Why was Moses so humble? Because he put God first in his life, he knew not to avenge himself, for God would avenge him. Today, brothers and sisters, do not avenge yourselves; do not use the method of knowing good and evil to deal with the knowledge of good and evil. I have learned a deep lesson. Since I understood the knowledge of good and evil, I have never fought for my rights again. God will have His plan, and God will avenge me. I believe God still reigns in the church.

What does it mean to be very humble, humble in everything, and gentle and humble in heart? It is not referring to people, but to God. Humility and gentleness refer to trust in God. Don't think that saying a few humble words is humility; you should see yourself with sober judgment and clearly state your trust in God. It's not about pretending to be humble; without reliance on God in your heart, there is no humility or gentleness. Some people think they are not good enough and cannot do it. Is this humility? This is pride.

In the time of Elisha, there was an officer whose arm the king leaned on. The famine was so severe at that time that he didn't believe what Elisha proclaimed, but God accomplished it the next day, and the officer was trampled to death by the people who were scrambling for food. Today, brothers and sisters, we must know that what we cannot do, others may be able to do, because 'there are mountains beyond mountains, and people beyond people,' and even more so, our God is the outermost. We need to have a deeper understanding of God and know that God is absolutely in control. Why do people fight for their rights? Because they feel that God will not fight for you.

If you are a leader in the church, do not fight for your own rights, and do not defend yourself. Even if we are wronged, it won't matter. We must still be faithful in God's house. Even though Moses married a Cushite woman, God did not rebuke Moses for this matter. God wants people to be faithful in God's house.

I have studied such matters. After David committed adultery, he took the opportunity to kill Uriah because Bathsheba was pregnant. God sent a prophet to speak to David: I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and took his wife to be your own. (2 Samuel 12:8-9) Our God is so good. He said, I established a house for you, I gave you the throne of Israel. If you feel unsatisfied, tell me, and I will give it to you. In other words, if you like it, tell me, and it is very simple for me to solve the problem.

Moses, he was faithful in God's house. This is extremely critical. Even though he married Zipporah, God did not really care about these small things. I have never seen God mention this matter in later chapters to rebuke Moses.

Moses' relationship with his wife was actually not good. From Moses onward, God valued His chosen servants and their children. Moses' children later became obscure. Moses' wife was named Zipporah, the daughter of Jethro. When Moses went to Egypt, wanting to bring the Israelites out of Egypt, he originally took his wife Zipporah with him, but later found that Zipporah had run away. Subsequently, his father-in-law Jethro brought Zipporah and her two sons. After that, the Bible does not mention this matter again. Instead, in chapter 12, Moses married a Cushite woman. As for what happened to Zipporah, no one knows.

Moses' wife was actually very disobedient to Moses. As for what happened to them, it is not recorded, nor is it said how she died. But we know for sure that Moses later married a Cushite woman. God did not blame him, because he was faithful in God's house.

Cultivating Loyalty in the Army

To build Jehovah God’s mighty army, leaders need to be faithful in God’s house. Your loyalty to God is crucial. Your trust in God is extremely humble, surpassing everyone in the world, and God will surely accomplish it for you. In this process, we discover how much God values His chosen servants and values the authority He has established.

In the army, if the platoon leader can challenge the company commander, the company commander can challenge the battalion commander, and the battalion commander can challenge the regimental commander, it will be a complete mess, and they will not be able to win battles. If they cannot win battles, the church will definitely be oppressed by the devil, because of disobedience.

We have a sister in our midst who really does not like to submit, but thank God, she is still committed among us today. Because in a dream, God told her, Obedience is blessing. Obedience does not mean just obeying people, but obeying God. Faith in God means not pursuing one's own rights and not meddling in matters that one should not meddle in.

The characteristic of the army is the concept of authority. Throughout the Book of Numbers, God is constantly reorganizing, reorganizing Moses' senior management. In chapter 11, God reorganized the grassroots people. In chapter 13, God reorganized the middle-level leaders.

Therefore, building Jehovah God's mighty army has many tearful stories. If anyone leaves the church, I will call her back. Similarly, I ask our leaders not to bring people back with womanly compassion. We will definitely not fail to make a dish because we lack a piece of stinky tofu.

Building a church does not require people or money, but God and God's word, and everything will be easily solved. Brothers and sisters must know that obedience and unity are the keys to victory!

Once, a leader of a church intercession team came to me and complained, The pastor should not do this, should not do that. When he prayed, he kept saying, God, can you change the pastor? Our pastor is not good at this or that. If the intercession team leader is like this, can the church win? I also sweat for this leader.

We think the intercession team should be very powerful and feel that God will speak to me. Everyone, remember, do not be such an intercession team. Today, brothers and sisters may see many things that are not in accordance with God's will, but it doesn't matter. If you have faith in God, God will definitely be in control.

Some people will say, Pastor, I am afraid you will go wrong. Actually, there is really no need to worry. If I go wrong, God will discipline me. So we should not think that our God is not good enough. Our God has been sitting on the throne and exercising royal power since ancient times. Our God's arm has never been shortened. Our God is the best at managing what He manages. Everyone, don't think that God's arm is not long enough and insist on adding your own section.

Brothers and sisters, start practicing obedience and pursuing unity in the church, and constantly be a humble person who trusts in God. In this way, God's army will fight victoriously and obtain the benefits of the kingdom of heaven.

In the past few years, my experiences have been so wonderful. These experiences are very similar to what Moses experienced. I have so many commendable things, and I have so many shortcomings, but I am absolutely loyal to God. If God wants me to be loyal to Him, I will definitely be loyal to Him; if God sends me to do something, I will definitely implement it well, even if I am unwilling in my heart, I will definitely implement it well.

If I am faithful in God's house, God will value me, give me great rewards, and make my days on this earth both short and full of glory. And I can build a victorious church, write what He has given me and revealed to me in books, and then establish a Chinese Mingding Destiny concept. This is not something new; it is all in accordance with the Bible.

God is building a victorious church in this generation, which needs a theoretical foundation and a new concept. The Book of Ecclesiastes tells us to walk out of a life of emptiness.

Practicing Faith

The Book of Genesis tells us how to practice faith, and there are many concepts worth exploring. If you have come among us and have never heard me share about Genesis, I encourage you to buy a set of the Genesis Bible study series, as well as Ecclesiastes - Seeing Through the Empty Life, or buy a 101 course, a 201 course, and then take notes and read them repeatedly. There are many new revelations in them.

In the Genesis Bible study book, I will never criticize Abraham or Joseph; I will always think they did well. Because I will never criticize those whom God has never criticized; I will always praise and imitate those whom God praises.

I am not like some pastors who take Abraham to criticize, or take someone to criticize, as if he is better than Abraham. I do not have that courage or ability. I don't think it is my responsibility to point out how the prophets are. My responsibility is to imitate their faithfulness in God's kingdom. Since God has sent us to build God's glorious church, we should do well to be faithful in God's house and pass on His words.

If God asks me to do some things in the Old Testament, like Isaiah running around naked, I will do it, because I must be loyal to God. What does it matter to risk my life? It doesn't matter to be pointed at, because there is only one thing in a person's life on this earth, and that is to act according to God's word.

Recently, there has been a feeling that this is a Christian reformation. Maybe I am saying arrogant words, but this is what I feel in my heart. This era needs God's glorious and victorious church, and we are all willing to have a vision of a victorious and glorious church. We must gather our faith and tell God:

I also want to be faithful in your house. God, may you greatly use me. Even in the face of various team challenges, God will definitely use me to build a glorious church, become a mighty warrior, trample on the devil and the enemy, release the captive souls, bring the prisoners out of prison, and let the oppressed go free. God, may you greatly use me. This is my aspiration, this is my determination to be faithful in God's house!

May God bless everyone!
