【Bible Study】Deuteronomy 27 - Cursed Be Anyone Who Does Not Uphold This Law

2017-12-30 37,825 Deuteronomy Confidence System Divine Promise Faith in Jesus Christ All the Words of God Foundation of Faith

The Faith in Jesus Christ is a Complete System

If you read the Book of Deuteronomy carefully, you will find that many important parts are there. Today, we are reading Deuteronomy 27. Before this chapter, there were many regulations. In chapter 27, Moses summarized the curses and blessings.

Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen. (Deuteronomy 27:26)

Speaking of curses, curses and blessings are an interesting matter. Moses said that you must keep all the commandments that I command you today. If you do not keep even one, you are finished. Whatever you violate, you will receive that curse.

Jesus said, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." I used to be confused about this "every word." Today, we must learn to see this "every word." In Deuteronomy, Moses said, "You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish ought from it." (See Deuteronomy 2:4) After Moses died, in the time of Joshua, the Book of Joshua was added. After Joshua, there was the Book of Judges, then the Book of Samuel, and then the prophets. I sought God in confusion: "Does this count as adding or not adding?"

Originally, the "every word" that Jesus spoke of is a complete system. A complete system is built on God's promises. If you do not carefully observe and follow it, you will be cursed. If you grasp the complete system in the Bible, your faith will be firm.

However, throughout the ages, this system seems to have problems. What many people preach is not what is written in the Bible. For example, if someone gets cancer, they will say, "This is given to me by God, it is a blessing in disguise." I felt very strange after hearing this. I read carefully in the Bible. Do they believe in Jesus? They believe in Jesus, but they do not believe in the words of Jesus. Then carefully observing and following is even further away.

If you believe in the faith system of Jesus, you will surely come out of the curse. Only by believing in a complete faith system can you carefully observe and follow the word of God. Without a complete system, people cannot carefully observe and follow, and they will be cursed. I am very clear that these painful and tormenting diseases are related to curses. In the next chapter, we will see God's expectations for people, which is that people carefully observe and follow His words. I will not keep you in suspense today. Let us look at this passage in chapter 28:

If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, The Lord Thy God; Then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. (Deuteronomy 28:58-61)

Everyone must be clear that all kinds of disasters and diseases are related to curses, and related to not carefully observing and following the word of God. It is not that you deliberately do not carefully observe and follow, but even if you are not careful and do not carefully observe and follow, it is also fatal. The Bible is written very clearly. Today, we must return to the complete system of the Bible. Some people say that the Old Testament is no longer the Bible, only the New Testament is. Then can we not read the Old Testament? But both the Old Testament and the New Testament are the word of God.

Later, when Matthew wrote the Gospel of Matthew, and old John wrote the Book of Revelation, did the content of the Bible increase? It did not increase, because the word of God is a complete system. Later, I found that once you grasp such a complete system in the Bible, many problems are easily solved. When Moses wrote the Bible, he summarized these things: "Thou shalt set up these stones, which I command thee this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster. As the Lord God of thy fathers promised thee." (See Deuteronomy 27:3) I suggest that everyone underline the word "promise" in the Bible.

God's Promise is the Foundation of Faith

The first point of this complete system is that it is built on God's promises. If your promise is not built on God's promises, but on other things, then it is troublesome. Because a person is not in the system of faith promises, he cannot carefully observe and follow, and he violates the word of God.

Today, we must think about a question, can God's promise be eaten as food? Before I led the Bible study, I received a guest from England. He asked me, "If I believe in the Lord, what if I can no longer eat, drink, and have fun?" I was confused when I heard this. He did not know that after we believe in the Lord, eating and drinking are not the main points, but they are all comfortable. The accommodation is also comfortable, and the heart is more joyful than when we did not believe in the Lord. In God's promise, there are all the benefits we want. Which Christian do you know cannot eat meat and only wears coarse clothes? That would be too hard. I think I do not want that kind of 'gospel'.

Brothers and sisters must know what is in God's promise. First, there is a land flowing with milk and honey. (See Deuteronomy 4:2) Is this 'milk and honey' not for eating? Then And it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and ye shall plaster them with plaster. And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them. Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord thy God: And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the Lord thy God. (Deuteronomy 27:4-7)

God has Prepared Abundant Grace for Us

God's promise is the gospel of our faith. These promises are all good promises. God did not promise you to get sick, or have long and lasting disasters. Absolutely not, because diseases and disasters are curses.

There are several things in the promise of Jesus Christ. First, you will inherit the land; second, you will become rich, you will be joyful; third, there will be no disease. Healthy body, with food and drink, land, and houses, but this is not the purpose of our life. The purpose of our life is to offer sacrifices to God, draw on God's promises, and live long on earth. This promise is because of faith in Jesus Christ, entering into the promise given to Abraham. God's promise starts from Abraham and enters into the promise of Mingding Doctrine.

I think if I say this, this gospel is very good. I also think it is very good, but many people still find it strange. Today, a sister had an interesting conversation with a new person. That new person asked, "Do you believe in the grace gospel?" The serving sister said, "What do you think is the grace gospel?" He said, "I am not sure, but it should be the gospel of repentance." Our sister asked, "What after repentance?" Answer: "Repentance after repentance." As a result, they entered this vicious cycle, living in repentance all their lives. But can repentance really draw on God's promises? In fact, it cannot. What it draws on is accusation.

Moses wrote: As the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee. Brothers and sisters must know that the gospel with God's promise is the gospel. In this promise, there is everything that people need.

Then what does a person rely on to receive the promise? It is by faith. The word is very near to you, if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth, you will surely receive it, this is God's promise. It is not because you do well, and it has nothing to do with you doing badly. You must know one thing: the gospel is God's promise to us, and what draws on the promise is faith, without any deeds.

This principle is very simple: for example, when I am living very miserably, what can I give to God? Nothing, but God blessed me. Is it because I first gave God something that God blessed me? No, it is because when I chose to believe, this principle is simple. That is to say, what draws on God's promise is faith, and only faith. At this time, even love is out of the question, just because "I believe" can draw on it. This is why people who came to Jesus to be healed, their thoughts and intentions did not change, their actions did not change, but they were able to be healed immediately.

There are too many promises from God, our God is not a stingy God. If you are one of the ten lepers, you come to Jesus, Jesus heals you, what kind of choice should you make, that is your business. Among these ten lepers, one came to follow Jesus, and nine left. Why did the nine leave? It is not that Jesus did not know that they would leave, Jesus knows everything, but Jesus still healed them, is there any action? No.

I will ask you a question, what happened to these nine lepers later? Maybe it was even worse than before, why? Because they were living in a curse before, so they got leprosy; now because they believe and seek Jesus, Jesus gave them this grace, and then they went back to their original path, and they did not believe in Jesus anymore, they believed in their original secular world, and they lived in a curse again.

I ask you again, did these nine people get leprosy again? They may have gotten it, they may not have gotten it, but they definitely lived worse than before, definitely worse than when they had leprosy, why? Because they continued to live in a curse. Today I warn you, if a person receives God's grace, and then abandons God and continues to live in a wrong logical system, then the curse they receive will be even deeper. Why? The reason is very simple, it is unbelief. Those who do not believe not only cannot draw on God's promises, but also have to suffer a deeper curse. Someone asked, "Where did you get this principle?" You go back and read the entire Bible, and you will know what I am talking about.

Who is the curse for? The curse is for those who have received God's grace and have abandoned God. Who is Deuteronomy written for? It is written for the Israelites. Do the Israelites not know God? The Israelites have been a tragedy in the past two thousand years of human history. Why is such an intelligent nation a tragedy? Because they received God's grace and entered the promised land, but they did not fear the glorious and fearful name of Jehovah, and they began to live a small life, and they began to be selfish. Brothers and sisters must know for sure, what is it like to live? If a person does not live well, it is because of himself.

If you did not live well before, and today you receive grace among us, do you still want to live in your past logical system? Among us, there are some businessmen who are super stupid. Before coming, because they had heart disease, they had to take medicine for heart disease. Now that they have received grace among us, do they still want to live in the past logical system? If they are still in the previous logic, then the previous company can go bankrupt, and your current company will be the same. If a person does not carefully observe and follow, it will be troublesome. If he does everything at the expense of his business, doing things that are detrimental to employees, or detrimental to other people, if you do not care about these things, you will continue to live in a curse. What will that be like?

God may give us one, two, three, four opportunities, but if you do not change, will you be thrown around among the nations like the Israelites? During World War II, when Hitler massacred the Jews, no country took in the Jews, and they wandered around, very miserable. Why were they so miserable? Because they did not carefully observe and follow, and they lived in a curse.

Everyone must know what things will bring curses. There are many kinds of curses, for example, moving the boundary will be cursed. Today, if you draw on God's promise, you must know that Jesus Christ is a treasure. If you draw on the promise, but you still treat your business as a treasure, and treat Jesus Christ as a secondary matter, then that person will definitely not live well. I do not want to scare you, God still hears our prayers, as long as you are willing to repent, everything is easy to say. Because when we draw on God's promise by faith, it is when we are still sinners. If God destroys sinners, then this world would have been destroyed long ago, but God is a God who gives grace and shows mercy, wanting to save each of us from abandoning sin.

Only Faith Can Draw on God's Grace

Speaking of this, there is one thing that everyone must know. And there shalt thou build an altar unto the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them. Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones. (Deuteronomy 27:5-6) Why is this said? It is that in drawing on God's promise, there cannot be any defilement.

If you are based on deeds, you cannot draw on God's promise. Everyone must know that drawing on God's promise cannot rely on your deeds. "Look, I am doing well," once deeds are brought in, this altar cannot be used. That is to say, drawing on the promise cannot have the slightest participation of deeds. This is the gospel preached by Paul and Jesus.

Jesus never criticized people's actions, but he criticized many people for not having faith. Do you understand? You cannot mix in the slightest bit of being based on deeds. Then you say, "Is not this faith without deeds dead?" I increasingly disagree with this question. How is faith without deeds dead? When I draw on God's grace, I really have no deeds to speak of.

Was my faith alive or dead at that time? If my faith was dead at that time, why could I draw on God's grace? Because I did not rely on my deeds to draw on grace, I relied on my faith, and God did indeed give me His promise. When I was poor and destitute, I trusted in God.

Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (Galatians 3:3) This is the view that Paul challenged. Do not think that deeds will do anything. Until today, many Christians do not know that they have always thought that faith without deeds is dead, then what kind of deeds do you use to live out the grace of Jesus Christ?

Today, everyone must know for sure what the Bible says: It is the Holy Spirit who makes you holy, it is the Holy Spirit who puts to death the evil habits of your body, it is the Holy Spirit who leads you into the truth, it is the Holy Spirit who makes you understand the word of God, all are the work of the Holy Spirit. We are passively receiving, then what is passive receiving? It is receiving by faith. It is not saying "we must do this, we must do that", and then we can draw on God's promise after we have done it.

For example, a person lying in a hospital bed, he cannot do anything. But he sent me a message: "Can you help me?" I went to the hospital to pray for him, and he got up, walked home, and was healed. What deeds did he have to speak of? He had no deeds to speak of. Did his thoughts and intentions completely change? They did not completely change. But he could draw on God's promise.

When Moses was writing this chapter, he spoke of the altar of stones that could not be hewn by human hands or touched by iron tools. What does this mean? It means that the road ahead is to constantly climb spiritual peaks, with faith as the foundation, and entering in by faith. Never forget, on the holy mountain of Jehovah, with faith as the foundation. This is the complete part of our Christian faith system. A very important part: God's promise, cannot have the slightest participation of deeds. If you do not build on this foundation, you cannot carefully observe and follow.

If you believe that "God is a malicious God, not a God who gives us good promises", how can you go on? If the gospel you preach is: "Follow me to believe in Jesus", and people ask: "What do I do by following you to believe in Jesus?", and you say: "After following me to believe in Jesus, we can carry the cross together", and people do not even know what that cross is, what gospel are you preaching? "Follow me to live a hard life together", how can this be lived? It would be strange if you did not believe in the Lord wrongly like this. Taking suffering and getting sick as joy, is this not very hateful?

Today, we must know for sure that God's promises are all our benefits, our benefits are not outside of God, they are all in Jesus Christ. Why not enter into Jesus Christ and draw on God's promises? I have not seen Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob die miserably from the pain of cancer.

Which of the people in the Bible who are after God's heart is not a rich person? Which of the people in the Bible who are after God's heart is not a person who draws on God's grace by faith? Which of them is not a healthy person? They are all very healthy. So brothers and sisters must begin to build the foundation on this promise and faith, without the slightest deeds. This day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. (See Deuteronomy 27:9)

Becoming the people of the Lord your God is because of your faith. In fact, a person's problem is because of unbelief, and all problems are because of unbelief. Unbelief is the key, unbelief is the essence, and everything else is just a manifestation. Why did the Israelites wander in the wilderness for forty years and not enter Canaan? Because they did not believe in God in their hearts, that is a fatal thing. If you believe that God is a good God, you cannot walk in the wilderness for so long. Today, many problems we encounter are essentially because of unbelief.

If you cannot grasp the essence of things and only grasp a manifestation, then you are in trouble. A few days ago, I was talking about a person, this sister has Mingding Doctrine, and later, after our constant training and pastoring, she found a job with an annual salary of two hundred thousand. As a result, a sister heard that this sister's salary was very high, and thought she was an expert. In fact, it was not because that sister did something to get two hundred thousand, it was because the pastor did something, so she got two hundred thousand. That sister asked her every day how to get it, what we taught you is more than two hundred thousand, why can't you listen?

In fact, a person who indulges in the flesh, a person who discerns good and evil, a person who has no faith, even if you grab two hundred thousand, it will 'prick your hand'. Today, our brothers and sisters must come out of unbelief.

Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day. (Deuteronomy 27:9-10) Why did they become the people of Jehovah? Is it not because of the faith of their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Should we not imitate the faith of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob today? If we really believe in the word of God, we will really know that living in this world, whether it is earning two hundred thousand, three hundred thousand, one million, or ten million a year, is vanity of vanities.

If the meaning of your life is to make money, your money will 'prick you to death'. Why? Because you trust in money. Trusting in God, you will desire to enter into God's Mingding Doctrine, and I will take on the Mingding Doctrine that God gives you, and money will become the smallest thing. The money that God gives you will 'not prick your hand'. The assets that Jehovah God gives to people do not come with suffering, and do not come with disasters, but the wealth that the devil gives you comes with disasters. Do you understand, brothers and sisters?

So I am very anxious when I see those who ask me stupid questions. A sister came from England and asked me: "Look, people are living very well, look, that person is also living very well." Why can't you always grasp the essence of things? I am anxious when I see it, and occasionally I scold her: "What is good? You don't know, how can I not see what is good?"

Because they see the surface, and I see the essence. Today, what do you rely on to become the people of the Lord your God? You rely on the promise, only the promise can become the descendants of Abraham, because Isaac was born by God's promise, and he is called the descendant of Abraham.

You and I are both born because of God's promise. We live in God's promise, and we also draw on God's promise by faith. So the first lesson of our 101 course is 'The spiritual realm is real', everyone must know that the spiritual realm is real, and the material world is empty. If the spiritual realm is real, and all our problems come from the spiritual realm, then you are working hard to make money, and in the end you earn disasters, what will you do?

I know an entrepreneur, he has a strange phenomenon on him. He keeps busy, busy until he is about to reach the goal, just like he is 'one mile' away from the goal, but he fails again. Some time ago, he earned several million again, but then he 'lost it all', and not a penny came back. I do not understand why people have to live like this, he does not not believe in the Lord, he also believes. But, why do people have to live so busy? Do they not know that the focus is on God? We must know that the spiritual realm is real.

Only by bringing everyone into the faith system can we solve problems, which is why we clearly see God's presence. Brothers and sisters must become the people of God, begin to understand God's presence, know what God hates, what God is pleased with, and be a person who pleases God.

Why did David do bad things, but still please God and become a person after God's heart? Because he had faith, he repented, he believed and feared God. Saul, although he became king, was still cursed. Esau and Jacob, who were also Abraham's grandsons, Esau, although he was a good person, hunting for his parents to eat, was cursed, why? Because Esau went to live a small life. And Jacob's faith is worth imitating, although his faith is a bit outrageous, he still pleases God.

Disobedience Incurs a Curse

Why do people disobey? It is because of unbelief. But those who disobey directly enter into a curse. Therefore, Paul says that whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. The most serious sin is unbelief, because it leads people to commit a series of other wrongdoings.

For example, in the past, we were told not to touch a hot stove. We would warn children that it was very hot, but some children would still touch it and burn their hands. From a young age, people exhibit this kind of unbelief and rebellion. Another example is seeing a sign with a lightning symbol on the street, warning of electricity and advising people not to touch it. Yet, some people disbelieve and insist on touching it. The consequences for such a person are imaginable and would be dire.

People say not to take shelter under a tree during a rainstorm because it attracts lightning. However, some people insist on doing so. When others advise you, you should listen. So, do not be foolish. Disobeying the words of the Lord God is not a joke. The consequences of disobedience are severe.

Do Not Invite Idols

God does not want idols in people's hearts or external idols. If someone is willing to risk their life for business, then in God's eyes, that business is their idol. We must not carve out idols that God detests for ourselves, because doing so will bring a curse. After being cursed, evil spirits will return to corrupt you.

Many families treat their children as gods, and the children will enter into the curse along with them. Therefore, do not disobey God's words. God's laws are all spiritual. If you disobey them, evil spirits will certainly come to disturb you. Do we have idols today?

Some people are determined to expand their business, which is very strange! Because for them, business has become their center. They are willing to do anything for business, so business is their idol and becomes their curse. Without business, they do not know what to do. And this is what the Lord God hates.

Cursing Those Who Treat Parents With Contempt

We must not treat our parents with contempt. Treating parents with contempt means not regarding them as parents. Some may think, "I treat my parents with contempt," but I am very clear that I want to bring my parents into God's grace. Parents are a matter of authority, and you must honor them.

However, honoring parents should not exceed honoring God, otherwise parents will become your idols. God comes first, and parents come second. Many worldly parents ask, "Do you love your parents or God?" They are displeased when people love God more than their parents. But how can people compare with God? Reversing the order of priority is very troublesome!

People must not be greedy. Do not covet other people's houses or property. Greed invites demons and brings a curse. You want to live well but end up living poorly. What we need is to live well. Just like wanting to be blessed is not enough, we need to carefully observe and follow God's words to be blessed, which is what matters.

“Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal!’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’ ‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother!’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’ ‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law!’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’” (Deuteronomy 27:21-23)

This may look like 'mutual affection,' but it is actually a cursed thing. Once people do these things, evil spirits will corrupt them. So, everyone must be very careful about sexual issues. Sex workers, for example, find it difficult to be blessed unless they completely break away from these curses and thoroughly repent. If they still live under the original logic system, it is useless. Those who kill and harm others are cursed. They harm people for profit and are cursed. The deeper the curse, the more miserable they live, and the more demons they attract.

Moses recorded the most crucial things, which is that all who do not carefully observe and follow are cursed. So, in verse 26, he says, “Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the law by carrying out its provisions!’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’” (Deuteronomy 27:26)

We must wake up and clearly know what things cannot be done. Today you are cursed, tomorrow you are cursed. Although you may feel that it is not a big deal, you must know that curses grow slowly. There is a type of bamboo that grows underground for seven years, and in those seven years, it only grows a little. But when it comes out, it can grow 15 meters a day. Such things are written in books, and they naturally have their truth. It is like when a curse is planted, it goes unnoticed, but when it grows out, you are powerless to reverse it. It is like people sowing seeds, and seven years later, they reap a curse, which is troublesome!

Serving is sowing seeds of blessing. Only in Mingding Doctrine are there promises and blessings. Serving is part of Mingding Doctrine. Living for God, loving God alone, and not loving the world, can lead to blessings. These are all reflections of faith. If you truly believe, you will walk the path of faith and will surely be blessed. If your faith is false, God knows.

We must completely abandon unbelief, because unbelief is the root of all problems. Everyone must come out of the curse. Jesus indeed bore our curse. If we believe and accept the grace of Jesus Christ, all problems will be easily solved.
