【Musings】Do you yearn to be a person with eagle-eyed vision?

2016-11-07 5,787 Y133 Course - Living Abundantly

Possessing Eagle-Eyed Insight

The eagle embodies soaring ambition, swift responsiveness, and formidable power. Its wings, broad and strong, propel it skyward, battling the heavens. Its gaze, sharp and bright, pierces through the fog, revealing all. Its talons, keen and mighty, seize prey, never relenting.

With its sharp eyes and powerful claws, the eagle perpetually occupies the apex of the food chain in nature. In the natural order, opportunity is inextricably linked to survival. Without foresight, one is destined for merciless elimination.

Many lament the lack of opportunity, attributing their unsatisfactory lives to its absence. Yet, God bestows equal opportunity upon all. Some succeed, others fail, not because of divine favouritism, but because the successful seize their chances. The ability to discern and grasp opportunities distinguishes those who thrive from those who do not.

On a Pacific island, two salesmen from British and American shoe factories arrived. After surveying the island, they discovered that no one wore shoes. The next day, they telegraphed their factories. The British salesman wired: "No one wears shoes here. Returning tomorrow." The American salesman's message read: "No one wears shoes here. Excellent sales prospects. Staying put."

The British salesman departed, while the American remained, posting "advertisements." These ads featured a robust local man, shod in leather, bearing prey such as tigers, leopards, wolves, and deer, exuding strength and appeal.

Intrigued, the natives inquired about acquiring the footwear depicted. Consequently, the American salesman's shoes gained traction.

Everyone aspires to success and prosperity, striving diligently. Many invoke the adage: "Effort is proportional to reward." However, they often overlook the crucial prerequisite: a correct direction. Otherwise, strenuous effort becomes futile struggle. Straying down the wrong path distances one from success. With eagle-like vision, foresight, and the ability to seize opportunities, success is within reach.

The essence of life lies in growth. Regardless of when one begins, change marks the optimal starting point. Habits can be altered, and vision can be trained. Observational skills are paramount; appearances can be deceiving. Identifying and addressing problems promptly is crucial. Incremental changes accumulate, eventually yielding significant transformations.

A proactive and confident mindset empowers one to achieve much. What you see is what you get. Seeing opportunity begets opportunity; seeing desolation begets desolation. What you perceive is yours; what you do not is not.

To see what others miss and discover untapped opportunities requires exceptional vision. Can vision be trained? How does one cultivate it?

  1. See the Good in Everything

In every situation, focus on the positive aspects. When problems arise, identify shortcomings, areas for improvement, and how to implement them. In work and life, encountering difficult individuals is inevitable. While we cannot change our environment or others, we can alter our mindset and behaviour. Strive to see the good in everything. For instance, if faced with a challenging supervisor, learn to adapt your thinking. Successfully collaborating with difficult individuals demonstrates immense potential. Cultivate the ability to discern the impetus for personal growth.

  1. Stand Higher, See Further

Many become entangled in immediate gains, lacking long-term goals and foresight. "It is more blessed to give than to receive," yet many fail to grasp this simple principle of blessing. Many prominent companies understand this well. Consider Didi Chuxing, the ride-hailing service. Initially met with scepticism, its low fares and efficient service attracted a loyal following, providing convenient transportation and utilising idle private vehicles. Didi Chuxing quickly became the preferred mode of transport, transforming lifestyles. Despite recent fare increases, people remain accustomed to this service. Didi Chuxing's success is inextricably linked to the long-term vision of its decision-makers.

  1. See Through

Do not be swayed by appearances; learn to see through them to the essence. Discern opportunity amidst chaos, envision the future from the present, and find turning points in economic crises. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, while the region's economies plummeted, financier George Soros capitalised on the crisis, amassing great wealth. Global wealth remains constant; financial crises merely redistribute it. By seeing through appearances to the underlying essence, we can uncover opportunities others miss, yielding unexpected rewards.

Similarly, in character development, we inevitably encounter offences and challenges. By seeing through these appearances to the essence, we discover that these difficulties become beneficial, refining us and elevating our lives. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself not understood by anyone.

  1. See Clearly

A leader's and decision-maker's most crucial ability is to concretise abstract concepts. When new ideas and innovations emerge, many fail to comprehend or envision them, perceiving excessive uncertainty and struggling to discern and analyse them. By seeing clearly in ambiguity, you can achieve unforeseen success. When Jack Ma founded Alibaba over a decade ago, he was met with scepticism, labelled a fraud and a madman. Yet, Alibaba has become a leading global internet company, with Taobao and Alipay transforming lifestyles and permeating every aspect of daily life. Had those who rejected Ma recognised the immense potential of the internet, their lives might have been rewritten.

  1. Inherit More

Seven Key Qualities for Success

Many fall into the misconception that innovation requires creating everything from scratch. True innovation does not necessitate rejecting all prior experience; learning to inherit is crucial. When others have excelled, adopt their methods directly. Mastering the achievements of others makes you formidable. The new and the old are relative concepts. What was previously unknown becomes new upon discovery. Inherit it, and if new ideas and innovations arise, pushing others' successes further, you become remarkable. The best way to inherit is through reading, transforming others' knowledge into your own, and learning to create and break through in inheritance.

  1. Do More

Many believe that seeing is believing, but relying solely on sight often leads to errors; appearances can be deceiving. In the workplace, situations arise where tasks fall outside our job descriptions. Some readily assist, while others instinctively avoid them. Many fear being taken advantage of, haggling over trivial matters. In truth, "If you do well, will you not be accepted?" Your actions are observed, and rewards and punishments are not arbitrary. Yu Minhong, founder of New Oriental, recounted how he helped his entire dormitory by fetching water and cleaning. While some might have considered him foolish, his actions moved his classmates to assist him in his entrepreneurial ventures, leading to the creation of New Oriental. Never fear hard work or doing more; consistently and proactively performing tasks beyond your job description (in a positive, reasonable, and correct manner) brings you closer to promotion.

  1. Yearn More

The Bible says, "Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." Yearn for growth; the more you yearn, the more you receive. Yearn for change and renewal, both internally and externally, starting with inner transformation. Man is made in God's image, and God is a God of new things. Therefore, we must embody God's likeness, becoming creators of new things. Yearn for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, for renewal, and for empowerment. A proactive and confident mindset propels God's hand to help us achieve our heart's desires!

Many lament their lack of education, questioning how success can befall them amidst so many talented individuals. However, we often see highly educated individuals living impoverished and unfulfilled lives, while those without higher education achieve remarkable success. Success is not necessarily linked to education but is directly related to vision. Therefore, we must remain vigilant, constantly honing our observational skills, and cultivating eagle-like vision, ensuring that all things are clear before us. Will success then be difficult to attain?
