【Musings】Do You Aspire to Have Eagle Eyes?

2016-11-07 5,792 Y133 Course - Living Abundantly

Possessing Eagle-Eyed Insight

The eagle embodies soaring ambition, swift reflexes, and imposing power. Its wings are broad and strong, enabling it to ascend into the clouds and battle the skies. Its gaze is sharp and piercing, cutting through the fog with unwavering focus. Its talons are sharp and powerful, seizing its prey with relentless grip.

With its keen eyes and powerful claws, the eagle perpetually occupies the apex of the food chain in the natural world. In the survival-of-the-fittest paradigm, opportunity is inextricably linked to survival. Without foresight, one is destined to be mercilessly eliminated by fate.

Many lament their lack of opportunity, attributing their unsatisfactory lives to the absence of favourable circumstances. Yet, God bestows the same opportunities upon everyone. The divergence between success and failure lies not in divine favouritism, but in the ability to seize opportunities. The outcomes of those adept at identifying and capitalizing on opportunities differ vastly from those who are not.

On a Pacific island, two salesmen, one from a British shoe factory and the other from an American counterpart, arrived on the same day. After surveying the island, they discovered that no one wore shoes. The next day, they sent telegrams to their respective factories. The British salesman wired: "Island devoid of shoes. Returning tomorrow." The American salesman, however, wired: "Island devoid of shoes. Excellent prospects for shoe sales. Intend to remain."

The following day, the British salesman departed, while the American salesman stayed to post "advertisements." His ads featured a robust local man, shod in leather shoes, carrying hunted tigers, leopards, wolves, and deer, projecting an image of strength and prowess.

Intrigued, the local natives inquired about acquiring the footwear depicted in the advertisement. Consequently, the American salesman's shoes gradually gained traction in the market.

Everyone aspires to success and prosperity, striving diligently towards these goals. Many console themselves with the adage: "Effort is directly proportional to reward." However, they often overlook the crucial prerequisite: a correct direction. Otherwise, their strenuous efforts amount to futile struggles. As one veers further down the wrong path, success recedes into the distance. If one possesses the sharp vision of an eagle, exhibiting foresight and seizing opportunities, can success be far behind?

The essence of life lies in growth. Regardless of when one begins, change marks the optimal starting point. Habits can be altered, and vision can be trained. Learning to observe is a critical skill. Appearances can be deceptive. One must learn to identify problems and address them promptly. While the impact may not be immediate, incremental changes accumulate, eventually leading to significant transformations.

A proactive and confident attitude empowers one to achieve much. What one sees is what one obtains. Seeing opportunities leads to acquiring opportunities. Seeing desolation yields desolation. What one sees is one's own; what one fails to see remains beyond reach.

How does one perceive what others cannot, and discover opportunities that elude others? This demands exceptional vision. Can vision be trained? How does one cultivate it?

  1. See the Good in Everything

Cultivating Eagle-Eyed Wisdom

In every situation, one must discern the positive aspects. When problems arise, one must identify personal shortcomings, areas for improvement, and methods of refinement. In work and life, encountering difficult individuals is inevitable. While one cannot alter the environment or others, one can modify one's mindset and behaviour. One must strive to see the good in everything. For instance, if one encounters a challenging superior at work and cannot avoid the situation, one must learn to adapt one's thinking. Successfully collaborating with a difficult superior signifies immense potential. One must be adept at identifying the driving forces that propel personal growth.

  1. Stand Higher, See Further

Many become entangled in immediate gains, lacking a long-term vision and failing to see the path ahead. It is more blessed to give than to receive, yet many fail to grasp this simple principle of blessing. Many renowned companies understand this well. Consider Didi Chuxing, a ride-hailing app. Initially, many were sceptical, but its low fares and efficient service attracted a large and loyal following. It provided a convenient mode of transportation for commuters and enabled many idle private cars to be utilized. Didi Chuxing quickly became the preferred mode of transportation, transforming people's lifestyles. Despite subsequent fare increases, people have grown accustomed to this mode of transport. Didi Chuxing's success is inextricably linked to the long-term vision of its decision-makers.

  1. See Through the Surface

One must not be limited to superficial observations. One must learn to see through appearances to the essence, to discern opportunities amidst chaos, to foresee the future from the present, and to identify opportunities for recovery amidst economic crises. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the entire Asian economy plunged into severe recession. Yet, George Soros, a financial magnate, saw opportunities amidst the crisis, reaping substantial profits. The total amount of wealth in the world remains constant; financial crises merely transfer wealth from one group to another. If one can see through appearances to the underlying essence, one can discover opportunities that others miss, yielding unexpected surprises.

Similarly, in the process of character development, one inevitably encounters offenses and challenges. However, if one sees through these appearances to the essence, one will discover that these difficulties become beneficial. Having been tempered by these trials, one's life will be elevated. The spiritual person discerns all things, but the worldly person cannot understand him.

  1. See Clearly

The most critical ability of a leader and decision-maker is to concretize abstract concepts. When new concepts and ideas emerge, many cannot conceive of them or see them clearly, perceiving too much uncertainty and lacking the ability to discern and analyze. If one can see the direction of progress amidst ambiguity, one will reap unexpected success. When Jack Ma founded Alibaba over a decade ago, no one believed in him. Everyone called him a liar and a madman. Yet, Alibaba has become a leading global internet company. Taobao and Alipay have completely transformed people's lifestyles, penetrating every aspect of their lives. If those who rejected Jack Ma at the time had recognized the immense potential of the internet, their lives might have been rewritten.

  1. Inherit More

Seven Key Qualities for Success

Many fall into the mistaken belief that doing something well requires creating everything from scratch. In reality, true innovation does not necessitate being unconventional and rejecting all prior experience. Learning to inherit is a critical quality. When others have already done well, one can directly adopt their methods. Mastering the accomplishments of others makes one formidable. The concepts of new and old are relative. What one did not know before, but now encounters as the accomplishments of others, is new to oneself. One should inherit it. If, in the process of learning, one can generate new ideas and innovations, pushing the accomplishments of others a step further, one becomes remarkable. The best way to inherit is through reading, transforming the knowledge of others into one's own, and learning to create and break through in the process of inheritance.

  1. Do More

Many believe that what the eyes see is the truth. However, relying solely on sight often leads to errors. Appearances can be deceptive. In the workplace, one often encounters situations where tasks fall outside one's job description. Some readily take on these tasks, while others instinctively avoid them. Many fear being taken advantage of, haggling over trivial matters. In reality, if one does well, will one not be accepted? One's actions are observed by others. Rewards and punishments are not arbitrary. Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental, recounted the story behind his success. During his university years, he single-handedly fetched water and cleaned the dormitory for all his roommates. Many might have considered him foolish and taken advantage of. However, when he started his business and sought help from his classmates, they said that his act of fetching water for the dormitory had moved them, and they readily offered assistance. This led to the New Oriental of today. In the workplace, one must not fear hardship or doing more. If one consistently and proactively performs tasks beyond one's job description (tasks that are positive, reasonable, and correct), one will soon be promoted.

  1. Yearn More

The Bible says: "Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." One must yearn for growth. The more one yearns, the more one receives. One must yearn for change and renewal from the inside out, starting with a change of heart. Man is made in the image of God, and God is a God who does new things. Therefore, one must embody the likeness of God, becoming a person who does new things. One must yearn for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, yearning for renewal and the acquisition of power. A proactive and confident attitude will move the hand of God to help one achieve the desires of one's heart!

Many often lament: "I have little education. There are so many outstanding people in the world. How can success ever come to me?" This is not necessarily the case. One often sees people who, despite having read many books, live lives of poverty and mediocrity. Conversely, there are numerous instances of people without higher education achieving remarkable success. One must understand that success is not necessarily correlated with the amount of education one has received, but it is directly related to one's vision. Therefore, one must constantly be vigilant, constantly exercising one's observational skills, and learning to have the sharp vision of an eagle, so that everything is clear in one's sight. Will success still be difficult?
