【Musings】Do You Aspire to Have Eagle-Eyed Vision?

2016-11-07 5,412 Y133 Course - Living Abundantly

Possessing Eagle-Eyed Insight

The eagle embodies soaring ambition, agile responsiveness, and awe-inspiring power. Its wings, broad and strong, propel it skyward, battling the heavens. Its gaze, sharp and bright, pierces through the fog, revealing all. Its talons, sharp and powerful, seize prey, never relinquishing their grip.

With its keen eyes and powerful claws, the eagle perpetually occupies the apex of the food chain in the natural world. In nature's survival paradigm, opportunity is inextricably linked to existence. Without far-sighted vision, one is mercilessly eliminated by fate.

Many lament the lack of opportunity, attributing their unsatisfactory lives to the absence of favourable circumstances. Yet, God bestows the same opportunities upon everyone. Some succeed, others fail, not because God favours one over another, but because the successful seize the opportunities presented. The outcomes differ vastly between those adept at identifying and seizing opportunities and those who are not.

On a Pacific island, two salesmen, one from a British shoe factory and the other from an American counterpart, arrived. After surveying the island separately, they discovered that no one wore shoes. The next day, they telegraphed their factories. The British salesman wired: "No one wears shoes here. Returning tomorrow." The American salesman, however, wired: "No one wears shoes here. Excellent sales prospects. Staying put."

The following day, the British salesman departed, while the American remained to post "advertisements." His ads featured a robust local man, shod in leather shoes, carrying prey such as tigers, leopards, wolves, and deer, exuding strength and virility.

Intrigued, the natives inquired about acquiring what the man in the advertisement wore on his feet. Consequently, the American salesman's shoes gradually gained traction.

Everyone aspires to success and prosperity, striving diligently towards it. Many comfort themselves with the adage: "Effort is directly proportional to reward." However, they often overlook the crucial prerequisite: a correct direction. Otherwise, strenuous effort becomes futile struggle. As one veers further down the wrong path, success recedes into the distance. If one possesses the keen vision of an eagle, far-sighted and adept at spotting opportunities, can success be far behind?

The crux of life lies in growth. Regardless of when one begins, change marks the optimal starting point. Habits can be altered, and vision can be trained. Learning to observe is paramount; appearances can be deceptive. Identifying problems and addressing them promptly is crucial. While immediate results may not be apparent, incremental changes accumulate, eventually leading to significant transformations.

A proactive and confident mindset empowers one to achieve much. What one sees is what one obtains. Seeing opportunity yields opportunity; seeing desolation yields desolation. What one sees is one's own; what one does not see is not.

How does one perceive what others cannot, and discover opportunities that elude others? This demands exceptional vision. Can vision be trained? How does one cultivate it?

  1. See the Good in Everything

Cultivating Eagle-Eyed Wisdom

In every event, one must discern the positive aspects. When problems arise, one must identify personal shortcomings, areas for improvement, and methods of improvement. In work and life, encountering difficult individuals is inevitable. While one cannot alter the environment or others, one can modify one's mindset and behaviour. Strive to see the good in everything. For instance, if one encounters a challenging superior at work and cannot avoid them, one must learn to adapt one's thinking. Successfully collaborating with a difficult superior demonstrates immense potential. One must be adept at observing the forces that propel personal growth.

  1. Stand Higher, See Further

Many become entangled in immediate gains, lacking a long-term vision and failing to see the path ahead. It is more blessed to give than to receive, yet many fail to grasp this simple principle of blessing. Many prominent enterprises understand this well. Consider Didi Chuxing, the ride-hailing app. Initially, many were sceptical, but its low fares and efficient service captivated a large and loyal following. It provided convenient transportation while enabling idle private vehicles to be utilised. Soon, Didi Chuxing became the preferred mode of transport, transforming people's lifestyles. Despite recent fare increases, people still habitually choose this option. Didi Chuxing's success is inextricably linked to the long-term vision of its decision-makers.

  1. See Through

Do not merely observe the surface; learn to see through appearances to the essence. Learn to discern opportunity amidst chaos, to foresee the future from the present, and to identify turning points in economic crises. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, while the entire region plunged into severe recession, financier George Soros capitalised on the crisis, amassing vast wealth. The total amount of wealth in the world remains constant; financial crises merely transfer money from one group to another. If one can see through appearances to the underlying essence, one can uncover opportunities that others miss, reaping unexpected rewards.

Similarly, in the process of character development, one inevitably encounters offences and challenges. However, by seeing through these appearances to the essence, one discovers that these difficulties become beneficial. Having been tempered by these trials, one's life reaches new heights. The spiritual person discerns all things, yet the worldly person cannot understand them.

  1. See Clearly

The most crucial ability of a leader and decision-maker is to concretise abstract concepts. When new concepts and ideas emerge, many cannot comprehend or see them clearly, perceiving too much uncertainty and struggling to discern and analyse them. If one can see the direction forward amidst ambiguity, one will reap unforeseen success. When Jack Ma created Alibaba over a decade ago, no one believed in him; everyone labelled him a liar and a madman. Yet, Alibaba has since become a leading global internet company, with Taobao and Alipay transforming people's lifestyles, permeating every aspect of their lives. Had those who rejected Jack Ma recognised the immense potential of the internet, their lives might have been rewritten.

  1. Inherit More

Seven Key Qualities for Success

Many fall into the mistaken belief that achieving something requires creating everything from scratch. However, true innovation does not necessitate being unconventional and rejecting all prior experience. Learning to inherit is crucial. When others have already excelled, one can directly adopt their methods. Mastering the accomplishments of others makes one formidable. The concepts of new and old are relative. What one did not previously know becomes new upon encountering the accomplishments of others. Inherit these accomplishments. If, during this learning process, one generates new ideas and innovations, propelling the achievements of others further, one becomes extraordinary. The best way to inherit is through reading, transforming the knowledge of others into one's own, and learning to create and break through in the process of inheritance.

  1. Do More

Many believe that what the eyes see is the truth. However, relying solely on sight often leads to errors; appearances can be deceptive. In the workplace, one often encounters situations where tasks fall outside one's job description. Some readily take on these tasks, while others instinctively avoid them. Many fear being taken advantage of, haggling over minor matters. In reality, if one does well, will one not be accepted? One's actions are observed by others; rewards and punishments are not arbitrary. Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental, recounted his success story. During his university years, he single-handedly fetched water and cleaned the dormitory for all his roommates. Many might have considered him foolish and taken advantage of. However, when he started his business, his classmates offered assistance, citing his past acts of service as their motivation. This led to the creation of New Oriental. In the workplace, do not fear hardship or doing more. If one consistently and proactively performs tasks beyond one's job description (tasks that are positive, reasonable, and correct), promotion is not far off.

  1. Yearn More

The Bible says: "Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." One must yearn for growth. The more one yearns, the more one receives. Yearn for change and renewal from within and without, starting with inner transformation. Man is created in God's image. God is a God who does new things, so one must embody God's likeness and become a person who does new things. Yearn for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, yearn for renewal, and yearn to receive power. A proactive and confident mindset propels God's hand to help one achieve the desires of one's heart!

Many often lament: "I lack education. There are so many outstanding people in the world. How can success ever come to me?" However, one often sees individuals who, despite extensive education, live lives of poverty and insignificance, while others with limited education achieve remarkable success. One must recognise that success is not necessarily correlated with the amount of education one receives, but it is directly related to one's vision. Therefore, one must constantly be vigilant, exercising one's observational skills and learning to possess the keen vision of an eagle, perceiving everything clearly. Will success still be difficult to achieve?
