【Musings】Do You Aspire to Have Eagle-Eyed Vision?

2016-11-07 5,561 Y133 Course - Living Abundantly

Possessing Eagle-Eyed Insight

The eagle embodies soaring ambition, swift responsiveness, and imposing majesty. Its wings, broad and powerful, propel it skyward, battling the heavens. Its gaze, bright and sharp, pierces through the fog, revealing all. Its claws, sharp and strong, seize prey, never relinquishing their grip.

With its keen eyes and powerful claws, the eagle perpetually occupies the apex of the food chain in the natural world. In the survival-of-the-fittest paradigm, opportunity is inextricably linked to survival. Without far-sighted vision, one is destined for merciless elimination by fate.

Many lament the lack of opportunity, attributing their unsatisfactory lives to the absence of favourable circumstances. Yet, God bestows equal opportunities upon all. Some succeed, others fail, not because God favours one over another, but because the successful seize opportunities. The ability to discern and grasp opportunities distinguishes those who thrive from those who do not.

On a Pacific island, two salesmen, one from a British shoe factory and the other from an American counterpart, arrived. After surveying the island, they discovered that no one wore shoes. The next day, they telegraphed their respective factories. The British salesman's message read: "Island devoid of shoes; returning tomorrow." The American salesman's message, however, stated: "Island devoid of shoes; immense potential for shoe sales; intend to remain."

The following day, the British salesman departed, while the American salesman stayed to post "advertisements." His ads featured a robust local man, shod in leather shoes, carrying prey such as tigers, leopards, wolves, and deer, exuding strength and virility.

Intrigued, the local natives inquired about acquiring the footwear depicted in the advertisement. Consequently, the American salesman's shoes gradually gained traction in the market.

Everyone aspires to success and prosperity, striving diligently to achieve it. Many invoke the adage: "Effort is directly proportional to reward." However, they often overlook the crucial prerequisite: a correct direction. Otherwise, strenuous effort amounts to futile struggle. When one veers further down the wrong path, success recedes into the distance. If you possess the keen vision of an eagle, far-sighted and adept at spotting opportunities, can success remain elusive?

The essence of life lies in growth. Regardless of when one begins, change marks the optimal starting point. Habits can be altered, and vision can be honed. Learning to observe is paramount; appearances can be deceiving. Identify problems and address them promptly. While immediate results may not be apparent, incremental changes accumulate, eventually culminating in significant transformation.

A proactive and confident disposition empowers one to achieve much. What you see is what you get. Perceive opportunity, and opportunity will be yours. See desolation, and desolation will be your lot. What you see is yours; what you do not see is not.

How does one perceive what others cannot, and discover opportunities that elude others? This demands exceptional vision. Can vision be cultivated? How does one nurture it?

  1. See the Good in Everything

Cultivating Eagle-Eyed Wisdom

In every occurrence, seek the positive aspect. When problems arise, identify personal shortcomings, areas for improvement, and methods of rectification. In work and life, encountering difficult individuals is inevitable. While we cannot alter the environment or others, we can modify our mindset and behaviour. Strive to see the good in every situation. For instance, if you encounter a challenging superior at work and cannot avoid them, learn to adapt your thinking. If you can collaborate effectively with a difficult superior, your potential is immense. Be adept at observing the forces that propel life's growth.

  1. Stand Higher, See Further

Many become entangled in immediate gains, lacking a long-term vision and failing to see the path ahead. It is more blessed to give than to receive, yet many fail to grasp this simple principle of blessing. Many renowned enterprises understand this well. Consider Didi Chuxing, the ride-hailing app. Initially, many were sceptical, but its low fares and efficient service attracted a large and loyal following. It provided a convenient mode of transportation for commuters and enabled many idle private cars to be utilized. Soon, Didi Chuxing became the preferred mode of transportation, transforming people's lifestyles. Despite recent fare increases, people have grown accustomed to this mode of transport. Didi Chuxing's success is inextricably linked to the long-term vision of its decision-makers.

  1. See Through

Do not merely observe the surface; learn to see through the phenomena to the essence. Learn to discern opportunity amidst chaos, to foresee the future from the present, and to identify turning points in economic crises. During the Asian financial crisis of 1997, the entire Asian economy plunged into severe recession. Yet, George Soros, the financial magnate, saw opportunity in the crisis, reaping substantial profits. The total amount of wealth in the world remains constant; financial crises merely transfer wealth from one group to another. If we can see through the surface to the underlying essence, we can discover opportunities that others miss, yielding unexpected surprises.

Similarly, in the process of character formation, we inevitably encounter offences and challenges. However, if you see through these appearances to the essence, you will discover that these difficulties become beneficial to your life. Having endured these trials, your life's trajectory will ascend. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.

  1. See Clearly

The most crucial ability of a leader and decision-maker is to concretize abstract concepts. When new concepts and ideas emerge, many cannot conceive of them or see them clearly, perceiving too much uncertainty and lacking the ability to discern and analyse. If you can discern the direction of progress amidst ambiguity, you will reap success beyond your wildest dreams. When Jack Ma created Alibaba over a decade ago, no one believed in him. Everyone labelled him a liar and a madman. Yet, Alibaba has since become a leading global internet company. Taobao and Alipay have completely transformed people's lifestyles, permeating every aspect of their lives. If those who rejected Jack Ma at the time had foreseen the immense potential of the internet, their lives might have been rewritten.

  1. Inherit More

Seven Key Qualities for Success

Many fall into the erroneous delusion that achieving something requires creating everything from scratch. In reality, true innovation does not necessitate iconoclasm and the rejection of all prior experience. Learning to inherit is a crucial quality. When others have excelled, we can directly adopt their methods. If you can master the accomplishments of others, you are already a formidable individual. New and old are relative concepts. If something was previously unknown to you, then what you now encounter that others have already created is new to you. Inherit it. If, in the process of learning, you can generate new ideas and innovations, propelling the success of others further, then you are an extraordinary individual. The best way to inherit is through reading, transforming the knowledge of others into your own, and learning to create and break through in the process of inheritance.

  1. Do More

Many believe that what the eyes see is the truth. However, relying solely on sight often leads to errors; appearances can be deceptive. In the workplace, we often encounter situations where tasks fall outside our job description. Some readily undertake them, while others instinctively avoid them. Many fear being taken advantage of, haggling over trivial matters. In reality, if you do well, will you not be accepted? Your actions are observed by others, and rewards and punishments are not arbitrary. Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental, recounted the story behind his success. During his university years, he single-handedly fetched water and cleaned the dormitory for all his roommates. Many might have considered him foolish and taken advantage of. However, when he started his business and sought help from his classmates, they said that his past acts of fetching water for the dormitory had moved them, and they readily offered their assistance. This led to the New Oriental we know today. In the workplace, never fear hardship or doing more. If you consistently and proactively perform tasks beyond your job description (tasks that are positive, reasonable, and correct), then a promotion is not far off.

  1. Yearn More

The Bible says: "Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." We must yearn for growth. The more we yearn, the more we receive. We must yearn for change and renewal from the inside out, beginning with a change of heart. Man is made in God's image. God is a God who does new things. Therefore, we must bear God's likeness and be people who do new things. Yearn for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, yearn for renewal, and yearn to receive power. A proactive and confident disposition will move God's hand to help us achieve what our hearts desire!

Many often lament, "I lack education. There are so many outstanding people in the world. How can success ever be mine?" This is not necessarily the case. We often see individuals who, despite having received extensive education, live lives of poverty and mediocrity. Conversely, there are countless examples of individuals without higher education who have achieved remarkable success. We must recognize that a person's success is not necessarily correlated with the amount of education they have received, but it is directly related to their vision. Therefore, we must constantly be vigilant, constantly exercise our powers of observation, and learn to have the keen vision of an eagle, so that everything is clear to us. Will success then be difficult to achieve?
