【Bible Study】Leviticus 8 - Priests Consecrated, All According to What the LORD Commanded Moses!

Leviticus Bible Study List

Introduction

Leviticus Chapter 8 details the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests, and how they offered sacrifices. The chapter consistently repeats the phrase, as the Lord commanded Moses, which serves as the central theme. Another sentence is particularly interesting:

You shall remain at the entrance of the tent of meeting day and night for seven days, performing what the Lord has charged, so that you do not die; for so I have been commanded. (Leviticus 8:35)

This is somewhat similar to what we read in Genesis. The Lord God made all kinds of trees, including the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, whose fruit was forbidden, with the consequence of death upon consumption. Later, people disbelieved and ate, resulting in the current state of affairs. Some then ask, Why this? and Why that? Moses's response is telling: For so I have been commanded.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread; and assemble all the congregation at the entrance of the tent of meeting.” Moses did as the Lord commanded him. And when the congregation had assembled at the entrance of the tent of meeting, Moses said to the congregation, “This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.” Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water. And he put the tunic on Aaron and tied the sash around him, and put the robe on him, and put the ephod on him, and tied the skillfully woven band of the ephod around him, binding it to him with the band. And he placed the breastpiece on him, and in the breastpiece he put the Urim and the Thummim. And he set the turban on his head, and on the turban, in front, he set the golden plate, the holy crown, as the Lord had commanded Moses. (Leviticus 8:1-9)

After reading this chapter, one might wonder, What is all this about? Is it absolutely necessary to wear robes and an ephod? If one starts questioning like this, there is no end to it. The entire Bible could be questioned in this manner. Today, it is not just you and I who might ask these questions; the Israelites of that time also wondered if all this was necessary, if it really had to be this way.

Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. And he sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them. And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to consecrate him. (Leviticus 8:10-12)

We see Moses anointing things with oil and wonder how that makes them holy. If we keep asking such questions, there will be no end. Even Moses himself could not provide a comprehensive answer. So how could we? If one insists on asking, there is only one response: For so I have been commanded. This settles all doubts. Some argue that Bible study should lead to intellectual clarity. However, understand that intellectual clarity is not about endlessly explaining these details. It is not the solution to the problem. The solution is to implement what the Lord commanded Moses. Once implemented, the fire of God will descend from heaven and consume the burnt offering and the fat.

Working with God by Obeying His Word

If you act according to God's word, the result will be God's presence, and the fire of God will descend from heaven. If we carefully read the New Testament, we find that after Jesus Christ ministered, He was crucified, buried, and resurrected on the third day. After His resurrection, He remained on earth for a time, appearing to His disciples in various places and explaining things to them. Eventually, many disciples witnessed His ascension into heaven. After His ascension, the disciples went to the Upper Room, remembering Jesus Christ's instructions to not leave Jerusalem but to wait for the promised Holy Spirit. As a result, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the saints like fire, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to pray in tongues.

Today, let us carefully consider whether we are implementing what the Lord commanded through Moses. In the New Testament, are we implementing what Jesus Christ commanded? Moses was faithful in God's house, but not as faithful as Jesus Christ because Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The Son of God has revealed everything to us.

We must understand that revealed things belong to us, but hidden things belong to the Lord. Chinese Mingding Destiny does not emphasize mysteries but focuses on clear and evident truths. If we act according to Jesus Christ's commands, the result is the descent of God's Spirit upon us, granting us power to bear witness to Jesus Christ. Moses anointed the tabernacle and all its contents, consecrating them, as the Lord commanded him. Once consecrated, God's presence descended. Therefore, we must understand how God commands us and how we should implement it.

God's Kingdom is in Heaven, Not on Earth

In this generation, there is much confusion among Christians. Recently, I mentioned that I could not find any teaching in the Bible that Christians should participate in worldly politics. Someone sent me a passage: See 1 Timothy 2:2, you should pray for kings and all people. Does praying for these kings mean that we Christians should participate in presidential elections and political struggles? The meaning of the Bible is not hidden, and I cannot read anywhere that God encourages us to participate in politics. But today's Christians are very interested in these things, and they call it biblical teaching.

Some prophets even predicted that Trump would be re-elected for a second term, but Trump was not elected. How do we explain the prophets' predictions? These Christians are confident and quoted another passage, which exceeded my imagination. They said that God delayed his response to Daniel's prayer for twenty-one days. We will wait and see how the whole thing turns around. I would describe their faith in one sentence: no one in Jerusalem has such great faith. But my faith is not based on the prophets' predictions, but on the word of God. I do not think Christians should participate in these things, because neither Jesus nor the Apostle Paul taught about it in the Bible.

I have my own views on participating in politics. I do not think this is the word of God, nor do I think Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul commanded us to do so. I know these Christians' scriptures. When Jesus Christ came into this world, people wanted to make Him king. People have many misconceptions about the coming of the Messiah. They thought that when the Messiah came they should establish a prosperous king like David. But Jesus avoided them and said, My kingdom is not on this earth, but in heaven.

What Jesus Christ did, caused the blind to see, the lame to walk, and the lepers to be healed. He ordered John the Baptist's disciples to tell John. Is people's interest in elections the word of God? I do not think so. I feel that Christians should only do one thing: build God's tabernacle and God's glorious church. Allow God's power and glory to descend on the church and make the church more and more like Jesus. This is the word of God. If the church is built according to the revelation of the Lord God, how could there be no presence of God?

Later, I found that many of Jesus Christ's words are difficult for us to receive. For example, to be Jesus Christ's disciple, one must leave behind their wives, children, houses, and fields. This is a bit demanding, but many Christians do not talk about these things. I encourage everyone to read the word of God carefully and implement what God says, because everything He commanded us is recorded in the Bible. If we build churches according to God's word, we will surely see God making the churches holy together

Don't get caught up in speculation. For example, about Sabbath observance, many Pharisees became think tanks and wrote books on Sabbath observance that were thicker than the Bible. Is this what God commanded? Christians easily fall into this kind of out-of-context interpretation. We need to carefully consider what is said in the Bible. For example, the blood should be sprinkled around the altar; the waist and fat on the waist and the right leg should be waved. The previous chapters also mentioned that it should be given to the priest, which is what God commanded Moses.

Some people ask, why not let Jesus Christ come directly? Why did we have to go around in such a big circle? This is according to God’s command. We have many questions we do not understand, and it is useless to ask them. Start readjusting our concepts. We must implement what God commands. This is called keeping and following God’s word. Offer a sin offering if necessary, and a trespass offering if necessary, and a burnt offering if necessary; offer sin offerings, trespass offerings, burnt offerings, unleavened bread, and grain offerings as required. Because the secret things belong to the Lord God, the evident things belong to us.

You shall not go outside the door of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed, for it will take seven days to ordain you. (Leviticus 8:33)

The Bible also requires Aaron not to go out of the door of the tent of meeting for seven days during the days of his ordination. Some people ask why is it seven days? It is useless to explain. Just do it. The Bible also records many people who disobeyed God's word, such as Saul, the king chosen by God. He did not know that he had disobeyed God's word until he died. Samuel said that you had disobeyed God's word. We wonder why? We just do what God commands us, and that is it.

God required Saul to destroy the Amalekites, but Saul left behind the Amalekite king and the good cattle and sheep. Saul did not even know that he had not done what God had asked him to do. As a result, God rejected King Saul. Later, God chose David, who strictly implemented God's word, and he became a man after God's own heart. From David on, 1 Kings records that some kings followed David and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord; some kings did not follow David and did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord. So, have we done what God has commanded?

Building the Church is God's Will

The theme of the New Testament is the establishment of God's glorious church, also known as building a victorious church where God dwells. When you build according to God's word, God will be with the church, and miracles will be manifested among us. However, Christians today are indifferent to these things, but filled with interest in running for president. I do not believe this is what God has commanded. I am very familiar with church history and the Bible. When the Roman Emperor accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior, he later established Christianity as the state religion of Rome. I ask you, did the Roman Empire conquer Christianity, or did Christianity conquer the Roman Empire? It is difficult to answer. Later, the church became increasingly corrupt, and this is obvious to all.

Many Christians hope to turn a country into a Christian nation. Is this what the Bible says? I cannot find it in the Bible. Such extravagant hopes are not very Biblical. In the Old Testament, God wanted to build a kingdom among the Israelites according to His will, but it never succeeded. Later, when the nation of Israel chose its first king, it violated God's word, and both the kingdoms of Judah and Israel were destroyed. What led to the destruction of the kingdoms? It was because the people did not carefully observe and follow what God had commanded.

The Bible has said this a long time ago, especially in Deuteronomy. Abraham's era was four thousand years ago, Moses' era was three thousand five hundred years ago, David's era was three thousand years ago, and Jesus Christ's era was two thousand years ago. Solomon built the temple five hundred years after Moses. But during Jesus' time, Jesus said: Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down. Why did the Lord God do this?

The nation of Israel was established by God, but it could not survive, and was later destroyed by Babylon. Then the Persian Empire and the Roman Empire ruled, and the nation of Israel did not lift its head. Do we still want to build an earthly kingdom? Jesus Christ never said that. Jesus Christ said: My kingdom is not of this world. If His kingdom were on earth, could Jesus Christ not have sent twelve legions of angels to destroy them? Jesus Christ did not do this. If we are filled with interest in politics, we must consider whether it is in accordance with the Bible.

Even if God initially chose King Saul, and later chose King David, it does not mean that God is very interested in choosing earthly kings. We see that the nation of Israel established by King Saul and King David, who were chosen by God, was later destroyed, that is, God sent the Babylonian and Assyrian empires to destroy them. Do we still want to participate in these things today? We should not place our hope in worldly regimes, but in carefully observing and following God's word, building God's glorious church, obtaining our Mingding Destiny, and doing what Jesus did. Today, Christians are not like Jesus, they are not sad at all, but they pray desperately for some people who were not elected president. Is this not strange? Is this what God has commanded? Today we must completely destroy all worldly value systems.

The theme of this chapter is to do according to what the Lord commanded Moses. We are to do what Jesus Christ did, and we are to do even greater things than He did. We must be good citizens in the world, not participating in politics, not protesting; we will not fight against worldly things, and even if we are persecuted, we must be good citizens. Are Christians participating in worldly politics today what the Lord has commanded? I think absolutely not.

Living a Small Life Cannot Build God's Kingdom Well

What is our responsibility? We are to become the Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob of this generation, to be a blessing to this generation. We are to become the priests of this generation, our hands touching the temple, our feet standing on the ground, bringing God's power to the earth, and bringing people's problems to God. We are to do the work of priests, we are to be completely set apart.

You shall not go outside the door of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed, for it will take seven days to ordain you. As has been done this day, the Lord has commanded to be done to make atonement for you. At the door of the tent of meeting you shall remain day and night for seven days, performing what the Lord has charged, so that you do not die, for so I have been commanded.” (Leviticus 8:33-35)

In Leviticus, what we read that God has commanded us is this. In the New Testament, it is even clearer that you and I are priests of God, who should be sanctified and completely dedicated. But when this is said, what we directly face is living our daily lives. This chapter records: you shall not go outside the door of the tent of meeting for seven days. Some people will ask, what if your wife and children look for you? What if they come to quarrel with you? The Bible does not say, and God does not care, because these things are not as important as being a priest.

From Genesis to Malachi, we can carefully analyze that the greatest enemy of carefully observing and following God's word is living a small life. Some people I know serve God to the point where they serve their own families. They say: if I cannot serve my own family well, how can I serve the church? Of course this is in the Bible, but the Bible also has other important words, so why not do them? Do we put our small lives above God, or do we put the sacred office we have received above all things?

Think carefully, is it a mistake to prioritize taking care of your own family and then serving the church? The history of the nation of Israel tells us that living a small life led to the demise of the nation of Israel, because soldiers who live small lives cannot fight. We are priests of God, do not change God's commands, and do not interpret God's word according to our own meaning, but interpret it according to God's meaning. The Old Testament offered bulls and sheep, and the New Testament sets us apart as living sacrifices, completely dedicated. Such service is our reasonable service, and not everyone can receive this word.

The problem of the church today, the problem that Christians face, is compromise, that is, distorting God's word according to human meaning, not wanting to pay the price, not wanting to implement God's word and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Because the price to pay is too high. The church does not require according to God's commands, and brothers and sisters do not require themselves according to God's word, and the result will bring many problems.

Many brothers and sisters from other churches come to us, describing the tragic situations they have encountered, and we feel very sad. The reason for their situation is that they do not implement according to God's word, this is a loss to themselves! When people do not implement according to God's word, God will not lose anything, but we ourselves suffer. However, when we take on our Mingding Destiny and build God's glorious church, money and health are not a problem.

We have only one problem, whether to carefully observe and follow God's word or not. If we carefully observe and follow, even if the requirements are a bit high, a bit difficult to receive, and even contradict our value system. But when we choose to carefully observe and follow God's word, we will surely be blessed! If we choose not to carefully observe and follow God's word, and live according to our own system, how God tore down the temple in the Old Testament, today God will tear down the church in the same way, and the curses in the Old Testament will also come upon us.

Some people say, I have not carefully observed and followed, but I have the precious blood of Jesus Christ. The precious blood of Jesus Christ is to let us act according to God's word. Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to abolish the law, to be a priest according to the order of Melchizedek, to be completely dedicated, to be holy, to be pleasing to God. If God is pleased with us, who can stand against us? Chinese Mingding Destiny speaks of a theological system of total dedication, paying the price, and carefully observing and following God's word. If you implement according to the system of Chinese Mingding Destiny, the fire of the Holy Spirit will descend from heaven upon you and me, we will receive power, bear good witness for Jesus Christ, see the kingdom of God come among us, and see the glory of God constantly manifested!

May God bless everyone!
