【Bible Study】Numbers Chapter 19 - Cleansing and Uncleanness

2018-07-07 29,990 Numbers Purity Spiritual Realm Operations Corpse Things Devoted to Destruction Holy Living

Foreword

This chapter speaks about the red heifer. Many are interested in the red heifer, but after reading, one realises that the focus is not on the red heifer itself, but on God's command to the Israelites to use it. The red heifer has a peculiar effect: it purifies. This miraculous effect is attributed to God's word.

In the wilderness, Moses raised a bronze serpent, and when it was raised, the plague stopped. Why was the bronze serpent effective? Because God instructed Aaron and Moses to create it, it had its effect. In the days of Hezekiah, many Israelites began to worship the bronze serpent, and God told Hezekiah to break it into pieces because we must not worship idols.

Today, we must know for sure that we cannot idolise things. Christians have no idols. A cross necklace is of no use. If you think it is, you are in danger. We live by every word that comes from the mouth of God, and when God speaks, we act, and all things are accomplished.

We Must Be Clean Christians

This chapter speaks of cleanliness and uncleanness. Some do not want to cleanse themselves and are eventually killed. If you wonder why God is so harsh, why kill someone who does not want to be cleansed? When I search for the word unclean in the electronic version of the Bible, there are many verses. Uncleanness is related to the dead, tombs, or the bones of the dead. If someone dies in a home, it affects the house. At first, you might think these are just rules, but they illustrate a spiritual reality. You must know that when someone dies, the spiritual realm is rampant. Have you seen a dead person? Have you seen what happens before death? It can be terrifying.

A person with lung cancer, unable to move in bed and suffering from bedsores, would suddenly sit up at two in the morning—something they couldn't do during the day. They would talk to the air, saying, So-and-so is here, so-and-so is here, speaking the names of the dead. The period before death is the most spiritual. Some ask me if they should attend funerals. It's up to you. This passage tells us that corpses and the dead are highly spiritual. Touching a corpse makes you unclean, requiring the ashes of a burnt red heifer mixed with water to be sprinkled on you for purification.

The Operation of the Spiritual Realm

How does the spiritual realm operate? The period before death is a very spiritual stage. If someone has not experienced spiritual things, they will never understand. I often feel that, at times, a person is possessed by ghosts before death. There's a Chinese saying to describe someone as dead heavy.

Have you ever carried a dead body? My mother was very strong when she was young, carrying 100 kilograms without hesitation. But when my grandfather died, she needed to cut his hair and clean him up before placing him in the coffin. My mother couldn't lift him, even though he was emaciated by illness. She realised then what dead heavy meant.

Why are the dead so heavy? Because many spirits of death cling to them. Recently, my mother felt unwell several times, describing herself as extremely heavy. After I drove away the spirit of death, she felt lighter. Many brothers and sisters came to see what I did. When my mother felt heavy, like carrying 50 kilograms of rice, I would pray for her, starting with her arms, commanding the spirit of death to leave in the name of Jesus. Soon, she would feel lighter.

If you wake up feeling heavy and exhausted, know that it is a spiritual matter. Don't think I'm scaring you; it's happening to you. You don't need to be afraid because you've lived like this for years. The spirit of death clings to the dead; touching a corpse makes you unclean. Uncleanness is not about germs but spirits. Touching a corpse transfers the spirit of death to you.

Our God is a Holy God

Many Christians say, He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. But often, that's not the case. Our God is great, but He also hates filth. If you are unclean, God cannot be with you. Who wants to be near someone covered in excrement? Our God is not only a holy God but the foundation of holiness.

Recently, I visited a Singaporean's home, which was very messy. I brought another Singaporean who has spiritual vision. He said that some people like to hoard things, making their homes unclean. If a home is unclean, God will not be with you, so we must love cleanliness. People with depression, OCD, or mental illness often live in very cluttered and disordered environments. Our God loves cleanliness. The Bible says that the Israelites should dig a hole to bury their excrement so that the Lord God would not step on it.

Our God is very clean. So, no matter how tired I am, I always clean my place. No matter how hard it is, I keep things organised because I know our God dislikes uncleanness. Touching the dead brings spiritual uncleanness. Many unclean spirits in the spiritual realm have the images of unclean animals like frogs and foxes. They are dirty and smelly. People with body odour emit a smell like a fox, which a fox releases to kill its enemies when hunted because it is very foul.

Recently, someone testified that their body odour was healed through prayer. Body odour can also bring back evil spirits. So, be careful about uncleanness and make cleanliness a habit. Keep your environment clean and your spirit clean. Don't touch the dead. If a family member dies, can you not help carry the body? You can, but afterwards, pray in the name of Jesus and cleanse yourself with His blood. Then you will be clean, and God will be with you. If you are covered in cockroaches and bedbugs, God will certainly not be with you.

Twenty years ago, Singaporeans travelling to China couldn't tolerate the public toilets, which were deep pits. Do you think our God likes that? In Israel, Jewish people care about cleanliness. Our country's hygiene has improved, becoming much cleaner.

Loving cleanliness is important. The dirtiest thing is the filth in people's minds. If someone's mind is dirty, God is not with them; a demon is. Remove uncleanness from your mind. The dirtiest thing in the mind is the knowledge of good and evil. When people eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, their minds become dirty, God cannot be with them, they enter death, and the spirit of death is with them. This is the root of the problem.

Be mindful of dirtiness and filth. Keep your thoughts and environment clean. I often meet people whose living environments are chaotic. It's no wonder they suffer from depression and mental illness.

Keep your thoughts and living environment clean. I often meet people with disorderly living environments. Is it any wonder they have OCD? I tell them to throw away what they don't need. They say, Oh, I can't throw this away, I can't throw that away! So they keep everything, buying more and more bookshelves. But it's meaningless. You can find whatever you need in the library.

Objects and Houses Associated with Corpses are Unclean

Brothers and sisters, be very mindful of the dead. Are things dug up from graves clean? No, they are very unclean. I suspect the vase my sister collected was something from a grave, related to the spirit of death. That vase became an unclean object, something to be destroyed. Don't think it's nothing, thinking that He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. It's not about size but cleanliness. The stench from unclean things is a spiritual stench. How can our God tolerate such an environment? Our God does not like to live in such places. So be sure to stay clean. If a container is covered after contact with the dead, it's clean. If it's uncovered, it's unclean.

Everything in a room where someone dies becomes unclean. Why? I suspect many evil spirits enter through any cracks when a person dies. What happens to a house where someone has died? It becomes an unclean house. When my mother was in the hospital, she told me that she saw two people die and be carried away. Every bed in a hospital has seen death, and doctors often have spiritual experiences.

A policeman friend of mine felt unwell and sought treatment from another friend who was an official in the hospital. He was assigned to a bed in the oncology department. Because he was a policeman, he kept his gun under the pillow. He shared a spiritual experience. One night, he and his friend were half asleep when four people came in, picked him up, and started to carry him away. He tried to grab his gun, but he was paralysed. He tried to shout but couldn't. He struggled, making some noise. His friend turned on the light, and the people disappeared. He exclaimed, Oh my god, if I had been carried away, I wouldn't have come back! I won't stay here!

For example, my father walked to the hospital, but after staying in that bed for a while, he couldn't get out of bed. Spiritually, that place was unclean. It's true; my father died in that hospital.

Death is a very spiritual matter. After death, the corpse is surrounded by evil spirits, the spirits of death. In the Book of Jude, demons came to seize Moses' body after he died. A corpse is not just a piece of dead meat. So, stay clean if you can. But if you touch a corpse, cleanse yourself. The cleanliness of a house is crucial.

Recently, I watched a young brother with giant cell tumour of bone die in his home. Their home was already unclean, filled with things used in occult practices. So, you must know what a haunted house is.

Recently, I saw online that someone bought a haunted house in Nanjing for half price. What happened in that house? Everyone in that house was killed, so it couldn't be sold and was eventually sold at half price. I don't encourage buying haunted houses. It's not about whether you are bigger or smaller than the spirits there, but because the place is unclean. Understand spiritual matters. You might think I'm exaggerating, so don't believe me and experience it yourself. But don't be afraid; fear is useless.

Recently, a sister asked if she could keep her father's portrait, as he was in his eighties and confused. I usually advise them to do what they feel is right. But if they asked me, I wouldn't keep it. If you feel okay with it, keep it. But if something happens later, get rid of it.

A two-month-old baby, whose father followed me in Singapore, had a grandfather in China who was a policeman. When the grandfather died unexpectedly, his belongings, including his police uniform and notebook, were brought to the house of the baby and his mother. The baby developed eczema on half of his face. After I prayed for five hours, the eczema disappeared. I knew the reason and told her to move out. It's not about our God's power but because the place was unclean.

Things Devoted to Destruction are Unclean

Today, we must not look at many things from a human perspective, but from God's perspective. If God considers a place unclean, it is best to purify it. If God considers something else unclean, it is best to purify that as well. Cleanliness and uncleanness are directly related to God's presence. Maintaining cleanliness and living a holy life for God's sake is crucial. Therefore, we must be holy because our God is a holy God.

Starting today, we should tidy up the messy areas in our homes. If there are any superfluous items, discard them. Cleanliness is important, both externally and internally. Internal and external cleanliness are both important. You must understand how deeply things devoted to destruction can affect a person. The impact of things devoted to destruction is profound, and everyone should have a deep understanding of them.

I used to be unconvinced, not believing that things devoted to destruction could do much. I thought the God within me was great, but reality proved otherwise. Later, I found a basis in the Bible: cleanliness and uncleanness have a profound impact on God's presence. If God is not with you, who is? The devil will freely be with you. If the devil is with you, can you be well? That leads to many troubles. Today, I offer a suggestion: as Christians, develop the good habit of living a simple life. Do you really need to display all those things in your home?

Some time ago, I went to a clubhouse owned by a wealthy person. His clubhouse was beautifully decorated, displaying very high-end and exquisite Chinese zodiac figures. Many senior managers working in that clubhouse suffered from various illnesses, which was alarming. I advised him not to display these things. Is it necessary to display them? Therefore, we must cultivate a good habit today: do not keep unclear or dubious items at home. Recently, my elementary school teacher's brother-in-law developed liver cancer. She took me to her brother-in-law's house, which was filled with things devoted to destruction. I said that there was a reason for developing liver cancer. I asked if we could clear out all these things devoted to destruction, but he refused, saying they were his treasures. He valued these things more than his life. After a while, I went back to see the teacher, and she told me that her brother-in-law had passed away from liver cancer.

Remove Uncleanness and Live a Holy Life

Today, we must understand that we must live a holy and simple life. Do not bring in confusing and unclear things, things of unknown origin, things perhaps dug up from graves. These things may look good, but in the spiritual realm, many things are unclean. Living is a very simple matter, do not complicate it. Are those things really beautiful to display? What is so beautiful about them? There was a Chinese ancient artifact called the Heshibi, and whoever possessed it suffered misfortune. Sun Quan's father acquired the Heshibi and turned it into the Imperial Seal. This is just my opinion, but I believe that one can live with it or without it. Do not collect a lot of these things. Who knows what they are, or whether they are clean or unclean in God's eyes? Let us not take the risk.

Recently, a PhD holder liked to collect antiques. His 180-square-meter room was like a warehouse, filled with various antiques. As a result, one misfortune after another befell him. Why? Because this is closely related to the spiritual realm; these are things devoted to destruction. I am saying that after someone dies, some things become unclean. After another person dies, some more things become unclean. What should you do? Do not treat the blood of Jesus as a rag to wipe things clean. The blood of Jesus can cleanse you, but having a clean habit in our lives is very important.

I really dislike collecting these things. I do not collect these things because I have learned a very deep lesson. My previous home was 140 square meters and filled with many things. Later, I moved to a 60-square-meter home and threw away many things. After throwing them away, things were really good. Life became more peaceful, and there were fewer disturbances in the spirit.

This chapter says that our God has set a rule: if you are determined to live an unclean life, you will be cut off. Is it that serious? Some people may say it is not that serious, but I tell you, what is God's logic? Dying sooner or later is the same for unclean people. After death, they go to hell. Dying sooner or later is the same to God. Those with eternal life, dying sooner or later is the same. Those without eternal life, dying sooner or later is also the same. Why is God so harsh as to cut people off? Cutting them off sooner or later is the same. They are unclean, and God cannot be with unclean people. That person shall be cut off from among his people is a very serious statement.

Therefore, we must be determined to live a holy life. Being determined to live a holy life is a good habit for us Christians. Not only in our environment, but also in our thoughts and minds, we must live a holy life.

I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44)
