Introduction
Hello, everyone! Today, we come to the final message in Grace and Truth. This final message is excellent. Its title is: “In All These Things We Are More Than Conquerors.” What a powerful statement! Why is it powerful? Because it is absolute.
People have a bad habit, you know. They say, “Do not be so absolute.” Whenever I hear that, something does not sit right with me. What do they mean by, “Do not be so absolute”?
“You can be victorious in some things. Why insist that you are more than conquerors in all things? Give it a rest!”
No, you give it a rest. I will not rest. I will set it upright! In all things—what does that mean? It means that in all things, we are already more than conquerors! Let it drive the devil mad! What are we talking about here? We are talking about what truth is.
Take a calculator. You press 1, then plus, then 1, then equals. Bang—it gives you 3. You clear it, press 1 plus 1 again, and it gives you 4. Then you press it again, and it gives you 2. Sometimes it gives you 2, but most of the time it does not. Can you use such a calculator? Tell me.
“Do not be so absolute. One plus one can equal two, three, or four.”
I think you look like a four. Do you understand? Something is seriously wrong. Throw that calculator away. What use is it? It only harms people.
You know, I enjoy doing practical work. I like working with my hands. Suppose a drill bit is damaged. You install it, turn on the drill, and drill for half a day, but you cannot even make a hole. The drill bit is faulty. It is broken. It cannot be used.
So what is truth? Truth must work. Do you understand? Every time you press it, one plus one must equal two. Even if the Heavenly King comes, the Four Heavenly Kings come, and Li Jing, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, comes—one plus one is still two. Do you understand? It cannot mean whatever you want it to mean. It does not work that way. Do you think that if Andy Lau comes and sings, then your calculator will suddenly give you three? There is no such thing.
So what is truth? It works! If it does not work, can it be truth? This is why Grace and Truth is so important.
For example, many people argue over whether Jesus Christ is Lord. They argue endlessly and arrive nowhere. Years ago, China’s great architect of reform, Deng Xiaoping, was formidable in this regard.
At that time, a debate arose: Was everything Chairman Mao said necessarily truth? The answer was no. So what was the debate about? It was about this: “Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth.” You can look it up. Truth must work. If it does not work, what are you arguing about? Practice is the criterion for testing truth. You must be able to make it work.
Those of us with an engineering background understand this more easily. You turn on a switch—click—the light comes on. You turn it on—click—and it does not come on. Is that a proper switch? It is defective. Sometimes it works; sometimes it does not. That is unacceptable. Truth must work at all times. Is that absolute? Absolutely. In all these things, we are more than conquerors.
Let me tell you: if you believe and do what God says, try it. It will certainly work. It is not like medicine, where people say, “This medicine is good,” but then ask, “Why did it not work for me?” Ninety percent respond to it; ten percent do not.
We have a sister among us whose father practised medicine all his life. He said that sometimes, when patients came to see him, he felt helpless.
What could he do? He would prescribe vitamin candies and tell them to go home and take them. A miracle drug, so to speak. But it was not the medicine that worked. It was the placebo effect. Do you know that? Every doctor knows about placebos. Who really knows why such things work for some and do not work for others? It is rather interesting.
Many doctors say, “You and I have a medical affinity.” Do you understand what that means? It means that whenever you come to me for treatment, it works. Why? In fact, the medication is the same.
Some people have great confidence in a doctor; others do not. Whether it works or not is related to what is in the person’s heart. Is that not strange? This is why the lie must be removed today. What does it mean to say, “Sometimes people are healed, and sometimes they are not”?
No. Everyone is healed. Do you understand? Because it is truth. It is not, “Sometimes we are victorious, and sometimes we are not.” That is not truth. In all things, we are more than conquerors. Is that not so?
People today are too accustomed to this way of thinking: “Well, sometimes it works; sometimes it does not.” Is Jesus Christ Lord? What is there to argue about? Nobody can persuade anybody else. Try it for yourself. Truth stands the test.
Truth is truth. It must work. Consider God’s promises. No matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Jesus Christ. The best promise is victory. Yes! Yet when many people do not obtain victory, they do not say they themselves have gone wrong. They say that the truth is wrong. Is that not so?
You may have a good drill bit, but if you drill in the wrong direction, you still cannot make a hole.
Therefore, we must know God, understand truth, and then, let me tell you, put it into practice! My results in practice are the same as the results of the apostle Paul recorded in the Bible. Every time, it works. I am astonished—truly astonished! Could Jesus Christ not be God? If He were not God, how could this work? It is not established through argument. It is established by the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit!
In the past, after winning one battle, I would get very excited, thinking I must have done something right. But now, why be excited? God predestined us to be more than conquerors in all things. Victory is inevitable. As time passes, I become more and more certain of this victory, more and more certain that it works. There has never been a time when it did not work.
What if it does not work? If it does not work, then we have not got it right. Is that not so? Some brothers and sisters among us came and were not delivered. We had not got it right. Recently, many have received deliverance.
Once, a sister was harassed by demons at night and could not sleep. After she became sleepless, her mind was filled with voices. At that point, she had essentially separated herself from those voices. The voice was not her. She was herself; that voice was a demon.
The demon said, “You cannot be victorious. Look at you. You are not good enough. You are not worthy. Look how much you indulge the flesh. Look how much you love money and the world. You invited me here. How can you drive me out?”
Then she contacted me and called me. I said, “That is a lie.” Then I taught her one thing: “In the name of Jesus Christ, get out!”
Previously, I had said, “Do not care about it.” But was that the end of it? No. Not caring is only the beginning. Not caring means refusing to be disturbed by it, while continuing to command it to leave! Through the Lord Jesus who loves me, in all these things I am more than a conqueror—not because I have become better.
Do I still indulge the flesh? Yes. But putting to death the flesh is the work of the Holy Spirit. I handed the matter over to the Holy Spirit. In fact, the Holy Spirit was meant to take it up. I simply handed it over in its original condition. Although I indulge the flesh, the Holy Spirit is putting to death the evil deeds of my flesh. What can the devil do? It is defeated.
The second time, it came again: “Look how much you love the world.”
“I love the world. Is that not what brought you here? Is that not the work of God? This is God at work, exposing what is hidden within me. But you must leave. I love God alone.”
“You do not love Him enough.”
“That does not matter. You must leave!”
Did it work? It worked.
A few days later, it came again: “You are unworthy.”
“I was never worthy in the first place! In all these things, I am already more than a conqueror. Devil, get out!”
What happened later? At first, it came every day. Then it came once every two or three days. Then once every seven or eight days. Then once in a month or so. Each time it came, we dealt with it. Why? Because in all things we are more than conquerors—not victorious in some things and defeated in others.
The facts prove that we did not become better first. We were still the same, but God was transforming us. God is transforming you. Do you know that? Can you see it?
Later, I passed on this understanding. I said, “Sister, is not God directing these things? Is He not putting your flesh to death? Is He not removing and tearing down the wrong logic within you? Is He not making you victorious?” More than conquerors.
So, brothers and sisters, we must remove the lies within us. We must know how to fight demons. Let me tell you: once you grasp this grace and truth, once you know that you are more than conquerors in all things, once you know that victory belongs to you at all times—not occasionally, not in some matters but not in others, but in everything—the devil must retreat! Is that not so? Game over. The game is finished.
We have another sister. Recently, she took leave from work, and her small-group leader prayed for her every day. She could not even go to work. Can you see God at work? Yes, you can. Previously, she had inexplicable worries and fears. Now God is directing a great drama of victory. It is certainly a blockbuster.
If Shan Tianfang were narrating such a victory, it would go like this: “With a slap, he dismounts; a bright silver spear flashes in his hand. On the battlefield, he takes the head of the enemy general as easily as taking something from his pocket.” That is the kind of victory we are talking about—decisive victory. Brothers and sisters, we are more than conquerors.
Do not think, “This is just a disease,” or, “This is just a demon.” We had a sister with haemorrhoids for many years.
“Teacher, how can these haemorrhoids possibly be healed? I have had them for more than thirty years.”
Goodness me. They bled profusely every time she went to the toilet. Thirty years. You are quite something, carrying that thing around for thirty years. Was that not because of loving the world? Was that not a curse? Yes, it was.
Now the question is this: can it be healed? Certainly. God’s promise says that in all things we are more than conquerors. Can we cast out the demon behind those haemorrhoids? Behind it is the old horse—the spirit of Mammon. Is God not working, reminding us that we need to repent and desperately need grace? Is that not so?
As a result of our recent teaching on grace and truth, the haemorrhoids she had for thirty years began to improve.
If this trend continues, what will happen? We will be more than conquerors! Not victorious in some matters and defeated in others, but more than conquerors in all things. This is truth. It is not about what you have done; it is about what God has done for you.
What does the Bible say? It says it beautifully:
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Can haemorrhoids stand against us? No, they cannot.
He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies them. Who then is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus died, and more than that, was raised to life. He is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God. In all these things, we are more than conquerors.
If you are willing to receive this, try it. Let me tell you, it does not require much mental effort. You can easily receive the truth that you are more than conquerors. Believe!
Previously, we believed that if we believed we would be victorious, then we would be victorious. Now we must believe that we remain victorious—not victorious sometimes and defeated at other times.
What exactly has Jesus Christ accomplished for us? First, He resolved the problem of sin. Second, He resolved the problem of demons.
The problem of sin is the demon that is born with us. You are called Zhang San, and it is also called Zhang San. You are called Li Si, and it is also called Li Si. Later, you create an online nickname; it creates the same nickname. That is the sin in the flesh. Has it been dealt with? Yes.
Since ancient times, no one has been able to subdue the sin in the flesh. But through Jesus Christ, it can be subdued. This is victory over demons. This is unconditional love. While we were still sinners, Jesus Christ died for us—indeed, He died on the cross. There, God’s love was demonstrated.
Why did the apostle Paul keep speaking about faith? Because by believing, we receive. Then the lie comes: “No, you must do something before you can receive.” I thought about this. What can a terminal cancer patient, crying out in pain, possibly do? The only thing he can do is groan. What work can he perform? That is all. Then he does not believe.
But in fact, it is given to us freely.
Believe! We are deeply convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Can our being inadequate separate us from God’s love? No. Can our being a mess separate us from God’s love? No. We were a mess in the first place.
Get rid of all this overthinking. People think and think until they have thought away their faith.
For example, sisters have come to me and said, “Why does prayer never seem to work? Teacher, I believe too, but why does it still not work?”
I asked, “How do you believe?”
“I was talking to the demon, and as I talked, I became deflated.”
That is deflated faith. That is called unbelief, sister. She said, “But I believe.” I said, “That is unbelief.” I said she did not believe; she said she did. She said she believed; I said she did not.
Then she asked, “So how should I believe?”
The moment you open your mouth, declare victory: “Devil, you must get out!” Do you understand? Haemorrhoids must leave! Shoulder pain must leave!
Do not stand there explaining this and that to demons. Cancer must leave. There is no negotiation! God has already made me victorious. You cannot remain in me. You can no longer accuse me! God has justified me because I believe. Do you understand?
Everything must go. Poverty must go. Do you understand? It is not that I will have money because I love money. I loved money in the past, and perhaps I still love it a little today, but poverty must leave! I must be more than a conqueror in this matter.
God will certainly lead me on the path of righteousness. God will certainly lead me on the path of faith. Amen? Amen!
I had a close friend who died of cancer. I ministered to him with tears. I could not bear to see my good friend die in such pain. I told him, “This is a curse.”
He replied, “The Bible says that a curse without cause does not come.”
Because he did not know that it was a curse, I was left speechless. It was not that my ministry to him produced no results. Every time I ministered to him, he rose from weakness and regained strength. But whenever I preached to him, he would say, “A curse without cause does not come.”
His verbal expression was poor, and I could not argue with him. He believed that he was a very good person. Let me tell you: cancer patients often think they are good people. Do you understand?
From that point on, he refused my ministry and died miserably. Was that faith? No. That was unbelief.
Faith and unbelief—this is a great source of confusion. You may ask, “Teacher, what is faith? What is unbelief?”
I will give you a simple answer: unconditional faith is faith; conditional faith is unbelief. Let me give you an example.
“We will serve the LORD our God because He brought us out of Egypt, fed us in the wilderness, and led us into the Promised Land.”
Then Joshua said, “Forget it! You people give it up!”
Why should we give it up? Why should you not give it up? I believe unconditionally. Your faith is all conditional. If you were hungry in the wilderness for three days, would you still believe?
If I were hungry for three days, I would still believe. But if you were hungry for three days, would you still believe? “God is no longer feeding me.” Is that really the case? No.
Conditional faith is detestable faith. “Because my arm feels a little better, I believe.” Listen to that. What if your arm gets worse? What if the symptoms become more severe?
So, brothers and sisters, do not be confused. Yes, I have come under a curse, but I believe! My God is gracious and merciful. He has borne my curse. He has carried my curse and borne my sorrows. He will set me free.
God, I have done wrong, but I still believe that You are the God who sets me free!
Brothers and sisters, over these years I have learned one lesson: believe unconditionally. Every time I believed unconditionally, I saw the glory of God. When I speak of it, tears come to my eyes—tears of gratitude.
I watched with my own eyes as victory seemed impossible. I watched with my own eyes as matters seemed about to collapse. I watched with my own eyes as things seemed about to fail. Yet because of faith—because of unconditional faith—what God has said comes to pass.
The church has come this far through battle after battle.
It was never sometimes victory and sometimes defeat. It was eighty-one trials, and victory every time! Thank God!
When a problem comes and you enter into battle but become deflated, that is deflated faith. Do you understand? It is very deflated faith. The moment the situation worsens, you panic, and your faith collapses. Is that faith?
Let me tell you: symptoms becoming more severe is something that occurs in almost every battle. That is how it is. When it looks as though it cannot continue, it continues again.
Is it persecution? Is it tribulation? Is it famine? Is it nakedness? Is it danger? Is it the sword? Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
I am deeply convinced—not because I believe without reason, but because I have experienced God’s power again and again, and God’s truth again and again. Through the Lord Jesus who loves us, we are already more than conquerors. Faith grows stronger, and stronger, and stronger.
Therefore, as I share with you today, I know that many brothers and sisters among us will once again come out of poverty, and will once again be released from sickness and all manner of bondage. The captives will be set free, and the oppressed will receive liberty. This is the Gospel we believe.
The blind will see. The lame will walk. This is the God I believe in—the God who makes us victorious. It is not because we are good enough. It is because our God is full of grace and truth. God’s love never fails.
What, then, is truth? Jesus Christ died for us. Jesus Christ rose for us. Jesus Christ opened for us the road of victory. Jesus Christ is God, and He still reigns. All authority in heaven, on earth, and under the earth belongs to Jesus Christ. Amen?
There is not one thing outside God’s control. Moreover, He causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him. So when your problem is exposed, thank God. There is indeed a problem. But God is the God who makes me victorious. Through the Lord Jesus who loves me, I am already more than a conqueror.
Scripture
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus died—and more than that, was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor rulers, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:31–39)
What a wonderful passage! My favourite sentence is this: in all these things, we are already more than conquerors. Do you understand? You are a victorious people.
Through the Lord Jesus who loves us, we used to rely on Him a little. Then we relied on Him a little more. Later, we relied on Him greatly. Eventually, there is no “little” left—we trust Him completely. Amen? Come, let us pray together.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, today I thank You! You tasted death for us. You also rose from the dead for us, and opened for us a glorious road. Today, let us be more than conquerors through You!
Let us rely on You. Whatever the circumstances, may our faith remain deeply convinced. Let us imitate the faith of the apostle Paul; imitate Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.
Whatever the circumstances, may our faith remain steadfast, for You are the God who makes us victorious. We believe what You have said. We believe Your promises.
O God, make us victorious! Make us shine like lights in this last generation, illuminating this dark age! Let us personally bear witness to Your truth. Let the glory of Your resurrection from the dead be manifested once again! Lead us into victory. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Background of the Scripture
We have read Romans many times, and Romans chapter 8 is one of the passages we quote most often. This passage is excellent.
Do you know why Paul wrote it? Paul knew that Christians in Rome had entered into a kind of faith where it seemed that they might win, but might also not win. There is a most detestable logic in this world. Do you know what it is?
Suppose we see two victorious people in a church and ninety-eight who are not victorious. Then we say, “Oh, only 2 percent are victorious.” Suppose we see one hundred sick people in a church, and only two are healed. Then we say, “Oh, the probability of healing is only 2 percent.”
Is that detestable? Yes, it is. Why? What can 2 percent in their church represent? Nothing. That is not truth.
Why is it not truth? Because when those ninety-eight minds operate like computers, one plus one becomes three, then four, and then something else. Their minds do not work properly. Is that not so? There are many people today whose minds do not work properly.
Paul saw that the Christians in Rome seemed to have minds infected with a virus. The most detestable virus was this: they took what they had experienced as their truth. But is what they experienced necessarily truth? No.
Suppose you press a button to launch a satellite. It flies halfway up into the sky—bang—and becomes a firework. “What a spectacular firework!” But does that mean every launch should become a firework? No. It means something was not done correctly. If it were done correctly, the launch would succeed.
So people keep summing up experience. At first, ten rockets are launched: one succeeds, and nine become fireworks. Later, ten rockets are launched: two succeed, and eight become fireworks. Still later, ten rockets are launched: nine succeed, and one becomes a firework.
Suppose nine out of ten airplanes crashed. Would you dare to board one? It would be like playing Russian roulette—spinning the chamber, pulling the trigger, and hoping the bullet does not fire.
The church in Rome was established by Christians from Jerusalem. In that age, Paul was concerned for churches everywhere, whether or not he had founded them. At this point, he had already won battle after battle. He won the battle in Galatia. He won the battle in Corinth. He won the battle in Ephesus.
Then Paul settled down and said, “I must go to Rome and see the Christians there.”
Sometimes when I read this, I feel deeply moved. Do you know why? Looking around today, much theology is a theology without victory. It may not concern us directly, but we still long for people to receive the correct theological understanding that the apostle Paul conveyed.
If more churches in this generation could make use of the theological framework of Mingding Doctrine, which we provide freely and without charge, that would be good. Do you understand?
What did the church in Rome believe? They believed, “Sometimes we win; sometimes we do not.” So Paul, unable to reach Rome at once, wrote a letter to the Roman church: whether in life or death, nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ. Through the Lord Jesus who loves us, we are more than conquerors in all things.
Surely some people criticised Paul for being too absolute. But why should he not be absolute? Truth has the nature of truth.
Paul set out the whole argument in Romans chapter 8. First, those who are in Jesus Christ are no longer condemned. The problem of sin has been dealt with. God has justified them. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death.
People once lived in sin and under the law of death. Today, in Jesus Christ, there is no condemnation. Once you believe, demons can be cast out.
Is that not what happens when you come to church? Once you believe, sin can begin to be put to death. Of course, putting sin to death is difficult. It is a long process in which the sin within us is continually put to death: selfishness, the knowledge of good and evil, wild and anxious thoughts—all these are sin. Putting sin to death and subduing the flesh are the same thing.
Paul did not speak specifically of demons there. Why? Because when there is no condemnation, demons are cast out; they become illegal occupants. That is why, once you believe in Jesus, demons can be cast out quickly.
Later, when you indulge the flesh again, the Holy Spirit helps you put the flesh to death. The Holy Spirit helps you put the flesh to death, and the Spirit of God dwells in your heart to guide you. Is that not so? How well Paul explains it.
The Spirit of God guides you. Then, let me tell you, we begin to have hope—the glorious hope of eternity. We long to receive the glorious freedom of the children of God, and to be glorified with Him.
Then what happens? We have weaknesses, but the Holy Spirit helps us. Do you still have an excuse? The Romans had many excuses, just like the excuses we hear today when we cast out demons and minister deliverance.
“Teacher, I am weak. How many apostles Paul are there? How many people have faith as great as yours? I am not you. I am not Jesus. I am not Paul.”
I say, “Then who are you?”
“Oh, Cain.”
My goodness! Who are you?
“I am Esau.”
Then how much suffering will you have to endure? Today, if you suffer—whether it is foot pain, knee pain, hip pain, buttock pain, or stomach pain—if you do not hurt, will you change?
“Oh, my haemorrhoids have been there for thirty years.”
Is God not dealing with the problem? This is very similar to the church in Rome.
The lies the devil released in the Roman church are still being released today. Today, we must explain the truth of the Bible clearly. It is not about what we have done. What have you really done? Whatever you do is of no use. Paul was making this clear: this is truth.
What is truth? Jesus Christ died for us, rose for us, and opened for us a road of victory.
As long as you follow, receive, accept, and believe, God will accomplish His great salvation in you. Are you good enough? No, you are not. But that is all right. God still loves you. When you are weak, the Holy Spirit helps you.
After Paul had explained all these things, from verse 1 to verse 30, he said, “Since this is so, what more is there to say? You Christians in Rome, what more can you say? Speak!”
I say the same to our brothers and sisters: what reason do you still have? Bring it out. Let us examine it. Speak! Let me hear it! What more can you say?
There is nothing left to say. Every loophole has been plugged. You are speechless. Is that not so? Through the Lord Jesus who loves us, we are already more than conquerors. That is the reality.
So it is faith, and faith alone. Do not keep arguing! What are you arguing about? Why so many reasons? All you speak are crooked arguments. Worthy or unworthy? Forget such nonsense. That is rubbish! Lies must retreat.
“Pah!” Devil, let it drive you mad!
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us.
Do you understand? If you understand this, you will weep.
How will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?
What else do you have to say?
Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies them. Who then is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus died and was raised to life; He is now at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble? Hardship? Persecution? Famine? Nakedness? Danger? Sword?
Yesterday, I was pondering this: what kind of statement is this? Paul, what are you trying to tell us? I imagine the Romans, after hearing this passage, may also have been slightly confused. Trouble? Hardship? Persecution? Famine? Nakedness? Danger? Sword?
Let me tell you, this is a very profound passage. Joseph was sold into Egypt. Was it hard? Yes, it was hard. Was he separated from God’s love? No.
This is not easy to understand. Let me tell you: God always reigns! When these things happened to Joseph, how did he think? Joseph thought, “God is accomplishing His great plan in my life!” Do you understand? That was the real examination. It was not merely a test; it was an examination. God was examining the quality of his faith.
Joseph refused the knowledge of good and evil. “God is accomplishing His plan in me. It is not the devil. It is not merely my brothers who sold me here. My brothers were used by God. God sent me ahead to Egypt to become the salvation of my family.”
Joseph had a small concern. What was it? He looked around: the eldest brother would not do; the second would not do; the third would not do; then it was the fourth brother’s turn.
When he calculated it, he realised that from the fourth to the eleventh, there were still six brothers before him. All of them would have to fall before he could receive the birthright of the firstborn! He was not willing to accept it. “God, is there no blessing reserved for me?”
God said, “There is plenty! Beyond the birthright, there is much more!”
This is why I say people should desire more. Can God not create positions greater than the position of the firstborn? He can! Later, Joseph became the salvation of the entire family, including Judah and all the rest.
Do you understand now? So Joseph had a dream. After the dream, he thought, “Wonderful! God will make me the salvation of my family!” Then what happened? He was sold into Egypt. How would you analyse that?
Let me tell you: trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword—even being killed all day long and regarded as sheep for slaughter—cannot separate us from the love of God, because God is directing it!
How does God put the flesh to death? This is how He does it. How does He remove the knowledge of good and evil from within a person? This is how He removes it.
David, God’s son, was pursued for thirteen years. That was the best training. Do you understand? It was real training with real swords and real weapons. What was the result? More than conquerors!
What Jesus Christ opened for us is not a path where persecution comes and we become deflated, or something comes and we become deflated, thinking God is no longer in control. We cannot sleep for one night and become deflated. Our buttocks hurt and we become deflated.
You need to learn this lesson: God always reigns. How does God deal with human flesh? Sometimes through your insomnia. How does God tear down your worldly value system? Sometimes by allowing you to become sleepless, because once you cannot sleep, you become deflated.
But even if you become deflated, you are still more than a conqueror. Amen? You have already become deflated, and God still makes you victorious. Is that not remarkable?
Because the previous kind of faith was not faith. Real faith is unconditional faith. You cannot attach any condition to it. Do you understand?
Therefore Paul said, “For I am deeply convinced.” Really? “I am deeply convinced.” After you become deeply convinced, you will see the power of God.
Neither death nor life, neither angels nor rulers, neither powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen? This was the crucial truth Paul wrote to the Romans. It is entirely unconditional. Therefore, Roman Christians could no longer attach this condition or that condition. It was not to be based on their current circumstances.
It was like our church. In the beginning, five out of ten people were healed. That was already a high starting point, because I believed. Later, I preached a message saying that everyone was healed. Then people came to challenge me: “Really? Teacher, has everyone you prayed for been healed?”
I said, “There is one person.”
“Who?”
“You.”
Do you understand what I mean? “Well, if you do not want it, then fine, is that not so?” Is there such a person? Yes—there is you. You are in pain, are you not? You do not believe. You are confused.
Everyone has been healed. All have received healing. Only one is missing, and that one is you. Are you not simply creating trouble for yourself?
After that, healing in the church sprang up like shoots after rain. I thank God. My faith is stubborn faith. I am deeply convinced.
Once, I ministered to a sister for three months, and she was not healed. Do you think I became deflated? Would I become deflated after six months without healing? No! That demon had to leave.
Later, in utter helplessness, we prayed, but there was no reaction. The demon was hiding very deeply. I said, “Let us go downstairs and have some water.” We were tired, so we drank some water.
But drinking water could not stop our victory! Drinking water could not separate us from God’s love! What? Do you think drinking water could separate you from God’s love? Impossible.
When we reached the staircase, I turned around and said, “Sister, today you must be delivered.” At that moment, we had just had a drink. We did not even have the heart to drink much. We only wet our lips, left half a cup there, and returned.
When we prayed again, I made up my mind: if not today, then tomorrow; if not tomorrow, then the day after; if not the day after, then the next day. I would persist until victory came! God is the God who makes me victorious.
That day, she was delivered. When deliverance came, tears flowed. My God is so faithful! Is that not so? What a good God! He is exceedingly good.
That is the truth spoken in this passage: the truth of victory.
From that time, I coined a phrase: persist one minute longer than the devil. That is a contest of faith! It is not by relying on myself. Jesus accomplished victory for us long ago. Jesus already accomplished it, yet we still have to persist one minute longer than the devil. If we dare to believe, we will have one hundred percent, complete victory.
In Jesus Christ, There Is No Condemnation
Let me tell you: once a person is no longer condemned, we declare that we are free. We declare that we are no longer sinners. Do you understand?
In reality, you may still be a sinner, but it is no longer counted against you. Do you understand? The devil must leave! The spirit behind haemorrhoids must leave. The spirits of depression and insomnia must leave. The demons behind waist pain, leg pain, and buttock pain must leave!
You may say, “Teacher, but the flesh has not yet been put to death.”
If God waited until your flesh had been put to death, you would be crying in pain. Does our God want to hear you screaming in pain? No. God does not want to hear that.
Let me tell you: even if you are at the terminal stage of cancer today, if you begin to believe and receive this grace, it is easy. Suppose you are blind today. “Teacher, I have been blind for thirty years.” Even someone born blind can be healed. Why? Because blindness is not good. Do you understand? Therefore, it must be made well!
What we believe is that the blind shall see, and the lame shall walk.
There is no condemnation! In Jesus Christ, there is no condemnation! If you are still counted as a sinner, how can you cast out demons? You cannot. Today, I cast out demons not because of myself, but because Jesus Christ shed His blood and sacrificed Himself on the cross. Can you understand?
The Spirit of God Dwells in Our Hearts
When we receive Jesus Christ, the most important thing is to receive the Spirit of God. Let me ask you: when you receive the Spirit of God, have you already changed for the better? No. You are still the same old mess, are you not?
You were driven about by demons and exhausted from being pushed here and there. Then you came to seek God. I was the same old mess too. Then what happened? You were filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit began to guide us. Is that not so? Yes.
You know, I once made a small mistake. Some sisters among us loved money very much. They came to church, and when we prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit. My goodness, what a deliverance! Had they changed completely? No.
God is so patient. Later, He blessed them, and they earned quite a lot of money. Their finances improved. Let me ask you: had they changed completely? They were still far from it.
What small mistake did I make? I thought, “Why are they still like this?” I was more anxious than God. But the Spirit of God guided them. God is full of grace and truth.
Let me tell you: when you see God treating someone graciously, do not blame God. God treats us graciously in the same way. As the Spirit of God guides us, we often begin to convict ourselves in our hearts. Guided by the Spirit of God, we begin to deal with the wrong things within us.
Today, as I preach to you about being more than conquerors, you should be grateful! Through so many matters, little by little, God has patiently made me more than a conqueror.
Through the Holy Spirit, Put to Death the Evil Deeds of the Flesh
When there is no condemnation, has your flesh died? No. You may still be a terrible person, still very fleshly, and your whole system of logic may remain unchanged. Is that not so? Yes.
The Spirit of God begins to guide you, as He guides His own children. Then the Holy Spirit begins to put to death the evil deeds of your flesh.
Why do haemorrhoids refuse to get better? Because the Holy Spirit wants to put your flesh to death, but you have refused to let Him do so. So the Holy Spirit contends with you, even until today. Then you see those haemorrhoids bleeding and making a mess, and you say, “This cannot go on! Holy Spirit, put me to death. Put my flesh to death.”
Is that not the case?
Then you are no longer condemned, and the Spirit of God dwells in your heart. Are these not all grace? The Holy Spirit helps you put to death the evil deeds of the flesh.
Then, let me tell you, a glorious hope begins to rise within you: the glorious freedom of the children of God. Previously, we thought, “What is this glorious freedom of God’s children? Can it be better than real gold and silver?”
Now it is different. Now we discover that gold and silver are not that good. Gold and silver cannot compare with the status of being God’s children, nor with the glorious freedom of the children of God.
Here we gain freedom—wonderful! There we gain freedom—wonderful! Can depression be anything but painful? Of course it is painful. But now it is healed. Then the hope of glory increases day by day! We long to have completely the likeness of Jesus Christ, to become conformed to the image of God’s children.
Is that grace? It is grace. Is that truth? It is truth.
Then you say, “Teacher, I am very weak.”
Paul says that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. What you should fear most is becoming strong in yourself. The moment you become strong in yourself, you rely on yourself. The moment you rely on yourself, your tail rises to the sky and bangs against God’s throne.
God says, “Whose tail is so hard and so long?”
It is you, you little thing. God sends a small demon, and you become deflated.
You discover that relying on yourself does not work. You are weak, are you not? “Oh, I still have this weakness.” Then what should you do? It is not an excuse. The Holy Spirit will help you. The more weakness you have, the more help from the Holy Spirit you receive. Again and again, you experience the grace of God.
Is this not the road we have travelled?
Since This Is So, What More Is There to Say?
At once, all these excuses and all the lies within us are sealed off. Stop talking. Stop speaking nonsense. Forget all that rubbish! That is what it means when Paul says: “Since this is so, what more is there to say?”
Through the Lord Jesus who loves us, we are more than conquerors.
Conclusion
Since this is so, what more can be said? There is nothing more to say. What excuse do you still have for not receiving deliverance?
You say, “Teacher, I still have one excuse.”
I ask, “What excuse?”
You say, “I have been blind for thirty years.”
That is not an excuse. You say, “I have had haemorrhoids for thirty years.” Do you think thirty years is somehow too difficult? Thirty years or forty years—it does not matter. Repent, receive grace, and walk on the road of faith.
For we are deeply convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor rulers, neither powers, neither the present nor the future, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God. This love was shown when Jesus Christ died for you on the cross while you were still a sinner.
God has prepared every condition necessary for victory. Stop making excuses. Throw away every excuse. Remove every lie. Come before God with this broken body of ours. Receive grace, receive mercy, receive salvation, and be moulded into the likeness of God’s children.
Amen! May God bless you all!
