【Bible Study】Genesis Chapter 27 - Those Who Yearn for Heavenly Blessings, God Will Accomplish for Them!

2023-02-24 104,860 Genesis Genesis 27 Genesis Chapter 27 Curse Faith Longing To Be Called Great

Introduction

Greetings everyone! Let's delve into one of the most captivating chapters in Genesis, Chapter 27. This chapter primarily recounts how God brought about an impossible feat for Jacob. It's truly miraculous! Therefore, I wish to inform you that the previous theme may not have been entirely accurate or precise. The theme for this chapter is "Those Who Yearn for Heavenly Blessings, God Will Accomplish for Them," a title that resonates powerfully!

This chapter often causes us confusion due to an inadequate understanding of blessings. There are those who yearn for heavenly blessings and those who yearn for earthly blessings. Some may desire heavenly blessings, but their pursuits seem far removed from anything heavenly, causing concern. Thus, only those who yearn for heavenly blessings will God accomplish for, while those who yearn for earthly blessings may receive a "foolish" remark, even if graced with kindness, appearing somewhat dim-witted. We must recognize that people's understanding of blessings varies widely. What exactly is your understanding of blessings? What do you truly value in your heart?

Understanding of Blessings

If your understanding of blessings differs from Jacob's, then your understanding may be questionable. Could your perspective align with Esau's? We remain uncertain. As for what Esau ultimately obtained, we are not overly concerned, as it was a curse. Esau squandered a promising hand, with Rebekah as his mother, Isaac as his father, Abraham as his grandfather, and Deborah, a nurse brought from Rebekah's hometown. What could be better? An entire family yearning for blessings.

Esau possessed a different understanding of heavenly blessings, thanking God upon each successful hunt. Thanking God became his mantra. He also desired blessings, yet God did not accomplish it for him. One can discern a person's character from a young age. What one values in youth will manifest in old age. Jacob sought not earthly possessions or his father Isaac's wealth, but the qualification to covenant with God. Esau naturally possessed this qualification as the firstborn. Jacob, born second, desired the same right.

This child is intriguing. At 75, he is no longer a child, yet he refrains from romance and marriage, waiting solely to obtain the qualification for this heavenly blessing. What faith! It defies comprehension. His mother, Rebekah, is also advanced in age, Jacob being born when Isaac was 60. The entire family consists of elders. What matters is his desire for blessings and his unique understanding of them. Ultimately, Jacob received not a single penny of his father's inheritance. We must have a clear understanding of this.

I often browse the Moments of brothers and sisters, and my heart sinks. Despite frequently listening to my sermons and sharing, they remain completely ignorant of heavenly blessings. Their Moments are filled with money and love for the world, nothing else. They thank God upon earning money and question God upon losing it. What about heavenly and earthly blessings? Is something without money even considered a blessing? The understanding is vastly different. Do not expect God to accomplish anything for you; it would be a blessing if He didn't rebuke you!

Esau lived a decent life later on. We must understand that if you aspire to be like Esau, the curse may not seem like a curse. Esau ran a successful business and had 400 strong men in his household, which is quite impressive! However, we sometimes struggle to understand the words of the Bible:

"May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed." (Genesis 27:29)

From beginning to end, I never saw Jacob become Esau's master. Esau remained his own master. If Jacob were to become Esau's master, Esau would bow before Jacob. We cannot comprehend this because we view it from a human perspective, which inevitably leads to confusion.

What exactly is your understanding of blessings? Ask yourself! At times, I ponder that people are quite lively, and their slogans are loud. However, their understanding of heavenly blessings varies greatly! Jacob desired that his descendants would possess the gates of their enemies, the very thing his father, mother, and grandfather desired. What exactly is it that they wanted? Is it edible? We often experience deep confusion because our understanding of blessings differs, leading to different outcomes in our pursuits. How many people thank God upon receiving a raise and question God upon receiving a pay cut, asking, "God, what were you doing?" Is it not common to hear such testimonies of gratitude for money and rewards? Is this the true understanding of blessings? If so, it would be tragic!

Heavenly blessings are what God values, and those who value what God values will be blessed by Him. Such individuals are particularly powerful. If you curse Jacob, you will be cursed; if you bless Jacob, you will be blessed. You might say, "Jacob is too powerful!" Bless Isaac, and you will be blessed; curse Isaac, and you will be cursed. Curse Abraham, and you will be cursed; bless Abraham, and you will be blessed.

Let us readjust our understanding of blessings. From a human perspective, Esau seems to have lived a better life than Jacob! Jacob fled to his uncle Laban's house to tend sheep for over 20 years, enduring much hardship. Esau remained with his parents, married, had children, and became a renowned wealthy man in the area. You might say, "Isn't that good?" It depends on your perspective!

Jacob's Yearning for Heavenly Blessings

If you were to ask me if Jacob truly understood what it was, I believe he did not fully grasp it. However, Jacob possessed a clear conviction: he did not have much hope for earthly existence. If one has great hope in earthly life, they do not need heavenly hope. If one lives well on earth, they do not need heavenly blessings. We must ponder this matter!

We who have the firstfruits of the Spirit often groan inwardly, longing for redemption, which is essentially longing for heavenly blessings. If you were to ask me about Jacob's state at that time, how much did he understand? In truth, he did not understand much, but he found the concept appealing. My grandfather Abraham had God speak to him directly. Why was my grandfather able to have God speak to him directly? Because my grandfather Abraham found life on earth meaningless, so he pursued a heavenly blessing, an eternal life that would last forever. Not just living and dying, doing whatever one pleases, living one day at a time, seizing each day to live it well! Abraham was not like that.

What was Abraham like? If one lives and then dies, it is meaningless. Others may have wealth and power in the world, enjoying themselves immensely. What did Abraham enjoy? He had no interest in enjoyment. He did not love to play. Abraham did not indulge in eating, drinking, or entertainment. Isaac was the same way; eating, drinking, and entertainment held no appeal. You might say, "No, Isaac loved to eat the game his son Esau hunted, such as civet cats and dragon tiger fights, all wild game; shark fin soup, bear paws, wild rabbits, and wild chickens, all naturally wild." If you were to consume these things today, it would be illegal.

Jacob did not pursue these things; he yearned for heavenly blessings. What use are those things? None. Jacob grew up listening to his grandfather Abraham speak of heavenly blessings. Jacob was 15 when his grandfather died. Then he heard his parents speak of it, the entire family speaking of heavenly blessings. Jacob began listening from a young age, vaguely understanding, and began to yearn for these heavenly blessings.

People are born with certain inclinations. If one is born yearning for earthly things, with their mind filled with earthly thoughts, they may never understand until death. Upon death, ox-headed and horse-faced demons will escort you away. Upon arriving there, you will see a pot of oil frying dough twists and another frying fritters, along with barbecues, skewered on iron rods and roasted over a fire. Oh, it's roasting alive!

You might ask, "How did I end up here?" Where else would you go? What did you yearn for while alive? It's not just saying, "Bless me, bless me!" It's not just the word "bless." Esau also wanted, "Bless me, bless me." But people's understanding of blessings varies greatly. Esau wanted to have good luck when he went hunting. Then he lived as he pleased, marrying Hittite women. Though troubled, he lived his life, and as life went on, it passed by.

But Jacob thought, "People live and then die, just passing by. I cannot live like that! I must yearn for heavenly blessings; I want to obtain eternal life." How many people truly value eternal life? Very few! I say, "Everyone should grow well." What is growth for? Growth is for living a better life, but growth becomes a curse. Whether one yearns for heavenly blessings in this world determines whether one is unfortunate or blessed. One who yearns for earthly things attracts demons, becomes unlucky, and falters at crucial moments. Without heavenly blessings and without yearning for them, one is filled with toil and sorrow on this earth. From a young age, Jacob, though not fully understanding, paid a great price, yearning for heavenly blessings daily, and God accomplished it for him.

What is the story we are about to tell? It's simply incredible! The things God accomplished for Jacob were impossible. Do not think that Rebekah or Isaac did anything; it was not them. God accomplished it for Jacob because of his yearning for heavenly things. Jacob truly yearned, and God truly accomplished it for him. How did He accomplish it? God accomplished it for him because of Jacob's faith.

Brothers and sisters, remember that you receive what you believe, you reap what you sow, you obtain what you believe. If one places all their hope in heavenly blessings, our God is particularly pleased with you, and impossible things become possible. Faith is extraordinary, but do not speak of it lightly. Some believe they will be wealthy in the future, but they never achieve it in their lifetime, losing in everything they do! Where is God's blessing? Not only is there no blessing from God, but there is also a curse from God. Jacob began to yearn for heavenly blessings.

God Accomplishes for Jacob Because of His Faith

Heavenly blessings are of utmost importance. Many do not understand this, but if you do not understand, it does not matter. You must begin to reflect on the path you have walked, as if demons were clearly present, because of the many unfortunate events. Can you begin to be someone with whom God is clearly present? God accomplishes for Jacob because of his faith; this is the focus of this chapter.

Jacob asked his father to bless him. If Isaac's eyes were still bright and clear despite his old age, able to see clearly, like my mother who can thread a needle at over 80 years old, it would be difficult to deceive him. If Isaac's eyes were wide open and he saw, "Are you Esau?" and you said, "I am Esau," that would be nonsense! I can see it with my own eyes! Isaac was a man after God's own heart, so how did he become blind? God intentionally made him blind. Why? Because Jacob's faith was too great, and his father's eyes were blinded by Jacob's faith.

If Isaac were not blind, how would Jacob obtain the blessing? "Are you Esau?" "Yes, I am." "I am watching with my own eyes, who are you fooling?" But as Isaac lived, he became blind. He did not know why his eyes became blind and was confused. In fact, his eyes recovered later, and he lived for many more years, only blind for a short period. Isaac, upon becoming blind, thought, "I am old, and my eyes are failing." "Since I have become blind at this age, it is better to end it sooner." Then he said to Esau, "Go hunt some game, cook some delicious food for me, and after eating, I will bless you." Why did he love to eat so much? He could have directly called Esau over and said, "Father blesses you," and then Esau could go hunting and prepare some delicious food for his father. Would that work? Yes. But if he had done that, how would Jacob have obtained the blessing? Jacob would not have been able to obtain it.

This matter is no coincidence; there is a reason for the blindness! God did not care much about Isaac's blindness. But Isaac, upon becoming blind, insisted on a strange request, saying to Esau, "Go prepare some game for me." Rebekah overheard this and said to Jacob, "Quickly prepare a lamb, take it to your father, and have him bless you. If your father asks who you are, say, 'I am Esau.'"

One has hairy skin, and the other has smooth skin, and one speaks with a feminine voice, while the other speaks with a masculine voice. Jacob would have been exposed upon speaking, easily recognized, and anyone would know it was wrong; it was pure nonsense. Wrapping the lambskin around his arms, how could he conceal the seams? Even with current technology, it would feel fake to the touch. But Isaac did not feel the seams. It was too crude, and the deception was too clumsy.

Jacob said, "Mom, don't mess this up; what if it's exposed? That would be troublesome." His mother said, "It's okay, if it's exposed, the curse will be on me." What kind of mother is this? What kind of family is this! Isaac was never much of a foodie, but this time he indulged, leaving an opening for Jacob, and Jacob went.

His father was still confused, "Son, let Father feel you. Ah! The voice is Jacob's, but the hair is Esau's." How could one not distinguish between lamb's wool and human hair? I think this person's sense of touch is too strange. Can lamb's wool and human hair feel the same? If you close your eyes and touch it, pig bristles will definitely feel prickly, but lamb's wool will definitely feel soft. Can they be the same? Can humans grow lamb's wool? I don't think humans can grow lamb's wool.

Some girls have body hair, which is prickly. Can that be compared to lamb's wool? No. Lamb's wool is so soft! Human hair is so prickly. But Isaac could not tell. In fact, it was not that he could not tell, but God made Isaac's sense of touch feel like he was touching Esau, because the feeling was very spiritual. God confused Isaac, not only blinding his eyes but also changing the feeling in his hands, leaving only his ears working. Isaac heard Jacob's voice, but the skin felt like Esau's, causing confusion. How could Isaac, who loved God so much and had once offered his life to God, become confused at this time?

I tell you, no matter how shrewd a person is, God will confuse them, and at this time, they must be confused. For Jacob's sake, because of Jacob's faith, there is nothing wrong with God confusing Isaac, right? There is nothing wrong; that is what God did. I tell you, if you are someone who yearns for heavenly blessings, God will accomplish miraculous things for you. The things you do in your life will be impossible, and the things you do will be unbelievable; that is called a miracle. Miracles and wonders will follow those who yearn for heavenly blessings.

I have performed many miracles in my life. Jesus performed miracles on earth for three years. I estimate I will do it for thirty years. If I cannot do ten times what Jesus did, I must do five times, like an old god. Why do I yearn for heavenly blessings? Because God likes it. Why do I live well? Although sometimes I fall into inexplicable depression, does everyone experience inexplicable emptiness, inexplicable depression? It is unclear why, not because of a lack of anything, but just feeling meaningless; doing anything feels meaningless, so one must create some small tricks to create a sense of living. But after creating the tricks, it is still the same, because that is how life is in this world.

Living in the flesh, one often has this feeling of emptiness, a feeling that life is not very interesting, which is normal. If you live a very interesting life, what do you yearn for in heavenly blessings? If you live a flavorful life like Esau, then life is very fulfilling.

Jacob yearned for heavenly blessings with faith, yearning to enter eternity, yearning to enter eternal life. As a result, Isaac was tricked by God, and God made Isaac's senses fail, his eyes did not work, and his hands did not work. One thing completely confused Isaac, because Isaac's major senses failed, and while he was confused, wanting to ask again if he was Jacob or Esau, Jacob said, "I am Esau." The voice sounded strange! At this time, Isaac smelled the fragrance of the Garden of the Lord, and he completely lost his senses. Everything was messed up, and he blessed Jacob.

I also find it very interesting that Jacob's faith can reverse the order of birth. What kind of faith is that? He can change whatever he wants. In the kingdom of God, nothing is impossible. You must yearn for that heavenly blessing, and then everything can become possible.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, do not be unlucky ghosts. No matter how I teach some people to learn and grow, it is useless, because they are unlucky ghosts, and it has nothing to do with ability. Unluckiness cannot be solved by ability. Because what they yearn for in their minds are earthly things, which God hates. God sees them as foolish and only doing things that annoy Him, making Him upset! Therefore, the fragrance on Jacob's body, like the fragrance of the Garden of the Lord, completely conquered Isaac, and Isaac blessed Jacob.

Heavenly Blessings

What did Jacob gain when he faced his father? He received blessings.

Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near and kiss me, my son.” So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him and said, “See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed! May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine. Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!” (Genesis 27:26-29)

Do you think this is valuable? It is extremely valuable. Let me tell you, there is something in the spiritual realm called witchcraft. You cannot cast a spell on someone like Jacob. If you try to cast a spell on Jacob, it will rebound on you. That is how powerful he is. So, Jacob is fearless, he has an invulnerable body! Things in the spiritual realm determine your life. The things of the spiritual realm cannot get close to Jacob because Jacob is great in the spiritual realm! How great? It may not be clear to the naked eye, but if you could see in the spiritual realm, you would see that nations will serve you, and kingdoms will bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother's sons bow down to you.

So, a saying still circulates: those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who pray for the peace of Jerusalem will be watched over by God. People mistakenly think that it refers to Jerusalem, the Jerusalem of the Temple Mount today, but it does not. It means that if you bless people like Isaac and Abraham, you will be blessed. In other words, if I am like Abraham or Jacob, and you bless me, you will be blessed. Whether I am or not, you can investigate for yourselves; my own words do not count. This is called heavenly blessing. Think about it, if you have a covenant with God, if you are a son of God, what do you lack?

If you are a rich second-generation, you might be conflicted, but if you are a God second-generation, you are very powerful. Brothers and sisters, do not pursue being a rich second-generation or an official second-generation. Actually, the greatest official is our God. Pursue being a God second-generation. Being a God second-generation is very powerful, you can walk sideways in the spiritual realm. Why? Because my Father is God. If your father is Li Gang, it is useless; you will end up wandering in prison, being taken in by the prison. Whether your father is made of silver, steel, gold, or is Guo Degang, it is useless. Being a God second-generation is much better.

For a God second-generation, whatever happens to them is good. No matter how terrible the environment, it will turn around when it reaches you. No matter how difficult the situation, God will accomplish the impossible for you. Anyway, they are very divine people, but you must have the skills of a God second-generation. First, a God second-generation must yearn for heavenly blessings. If others curse you, God will curse them. If others bless you, God will bless them. What is the use of this? It is useful. You are great in the spiritual realm, nations will serve you, and kingdoms will bow down to you. God will give you the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth; you do not have to rely on the sword in your hand to live.

Then he came near and kissed him. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!” (Genesis 27:27-29)

In short, do whatever you do, but do not work like crazy all day long, trying to get something and still not getting it. If you do not understand, it may be that I have not explained it clearly, but if you wait until you fully understand before pursuing it, it will be a bit late. Start knowing about these heavenly blessings, and then pursue them. If you are like Jacob, you will be powerful.

I think it is good to be famous in the spiritual realm, good to be great in the spiritual realm. In the world, you might see someone like Jacob, Isaac, or Abraham, and you might think they are all living with their tails between their legs, not competing or fighting, but they are great in the spiritual realm. Think about it carefully, they are great in the spiritual realm, and then the people around them will clearly see that God is with them. If you hear about a certain preacher, do not believe in the title of preacher; the title of preacher is useless. What is useful? It is that God is clearly with you that is useful. What I want to tell everyone is that heavenly blessings are incredibly good.

Only One Blessing Worth Having

As a result, Esau also wanted this blessing. The blessing Esau wanted was different from what Jacob received. What Esau received was quite interesting.

Isaac answered Esau, “Behold, I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?” Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: “Behold, away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be, and away from the dew of heaven on high. By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but when you grow restless you shall break his yoke from your neck.” (Genesis 27:37-40)

Was Isaac speaking good words or bad words? There is a fatal element in it, which is that you have to rely on the sword in your hands to live, meaning you have to rely on your own hands to create your destiny and control your destiny. God does not care, or rather, God might care in a bad way. So, brothers and sisters, you must know that there is only one blessing worth having. Only Jacob's path of pursuing heavenly blessings is the most important. If a person relies on the sword in their hands to live, relying on their own struggle, that is a curse, because there is only one blessing worth having.

Some people think that "away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be, and away from the dew of heaven on high" sounds similar to what was said to Jacob, but it is useless. The last sentence is the killer. You might have good opportunities, you might have the best father, the best mother, the best grandfather, and the best nanny, Deborah, Rebekah's nanny, but it is all useless. You still have to rely on the sword in your own hands to live, you still have to rely on your own struggle. What is gained through struggle belongs to you. But for Jacob, what God blesses him with belongs to him. These are completely different things. Relying on the sword to live is not a good thing at all.

Why rely on the sword to live? Because if you do not fight others, others will come and fight you. Either you fight others, or others will come and fight you. There is a saying that describes the honey badger on the African savanna: either it is fighting, or it is on the way to fight. It spends its whole life brawling, which is tiring. How can you not be tired living like that?

What does it mean to live by blessing? It means that if you herd sheep, the sheep will be good. If you open a small shop, the shop will be good. It is not that you are doing particularly well, but it is just really good. And once you start, you do quite well. That is living by God's blessing. This is the only blessing worth having.

Esau's Curse

Esau lives by the sword, fighting and killing, living a life of struggle, which is very hard. Brothers and sisters, think about it, neither Isaac nor Jacob is fond of fighting. The Christian faith is not a combative faith; those people have gotten it wrong. What about the Crusades? Is that the teaching of Jesus Christ? No, it is not. They did it themselves. Many things are not the teachings of the Bible. The Bible does not teach people to be blessed through fighting and killing; you will not be blessed through fighting and killing.

So, from now on, do not be combative, do not love to quarrel, do not get a reputation as a honey badger in the market, looking like a honey badger. Do not think that having a buzz cut makes you a honey badger. Some people with long hair are also honey badgers. It is not about whether your hair is long or short, it is about your combative demeanor.

I lament that the Christian faith has been made confusing by many people, and there are many absurd teachings in it. They have taken Esau's ways and made them Christian. The teachings of Jesus Christ are almost non-existent in Christianity. Many of Esau's cursed things have all been mixed into the church. Can they be blessed doing this? It is difficult to be blessed; those are all Esau's curses. The real blessing is that people like Jacob yearn for heavenly blessings, not wanting to rely on their own hands, relying on the sword to live, but relying on God's protection.

I ask you, is it better to rely on God's protection or to rely on your own sword? Because there are heavens beyond heavens, and people beyond people. If you set up a ring, and you think you are the best at martial arts in the world, sooner or later you will be knocked off the ring, and perhaps that will be the end of you in the ring. Different pursuits, different perspectives. Look at the wives Esau married; they were also as combative as Esau. There was no peace in the house. Rebekah looked at Esau and then at Esau's wives, and she lost all hope of living. How upset must she have been, just looking at them made her tired.

Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?” (Genesis 27:46)

If a cursed person is by your side, you will be weary of your life. Everyone, do not put this on Isaac and Rebekah. Isaac and Rebekah gave their children the exact same teachings, but in the end, you cannot control people's choices. You can teach your children, but your children's fate lies in their own choices. Perhaps you can teach them how to make choices like Jacob, but only they can decide how to make those choices.

Think carefully about what you really want. I can boldly say that the things people choose in their hearts cannot be hidden from God. Whether the road ahead is good or narrow, just keep walking forward, and one day you will melt into that blue sky.

Genesis Chapter 27 Scripture

27:1 Now when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son”; and he answered him, “Here I am.”
27:2 He said, “Behold, I am old; I do not know the day of my death.
27:3 Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me,
27:4 and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.”
27:5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it,
27:6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, ‘Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food, that I may bless you before the Lord before I die.’
27:7 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice as I command you.
27:8 Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves.
27:9 And you shall bring it to your father so that he may eat it, that he may bless you before he dies.”
27:10 But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Behold, my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.
27:11 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.”
27:12 His mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.”
27:13 So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved.
27:14 Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.
27:15 And she put the skins of the young goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.
27:16 And she put the delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
27:17 So he went in to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”
27:18 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.”
27:19 But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He answered, “Because the Lord your God granted me success.”
27:20 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.”
27:21 So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, who felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”
27:22 And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands. So he blessed him.
27:23 He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He answered, “I am.”
27:24 Then he said, “Bring it near to me, that I may eat of my son's game and bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.
27:25 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near and kiss me, my son.”
27:26 So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him and said, “See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed!
27:27 May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine.
27:28 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”
27:29 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
27:30 He also prepared delicious food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.”
27:31 Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?” He answered, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”
27:32 Then Isaac trembled very violently and said, “Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed.”
27:33 As soon as Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!”
27:34 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing.”
27:35 Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me these two times. He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
27:36 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?”
27:37 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.
27:38 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: “Behold, away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be, and away from the dew of heaven on high.
27:39 By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but when you grow restless you shall break his yoke from your neck.”
27:40 Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
27:41 But the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.
27:42 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban my brother in Haran
27:43 and stay with him a while, until your brother's fury turns away—
27:44 until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?”
27:45 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?”
