【Bible Study】Leviticus 24 - Hallow the Name of the Lord God!

2021-04-02 24,063 Leviticus Curse Holy Spirit Honor Law Glory Pleasing God

Introduction

Good day to all! Let us continue with Leviticus Chapter 24. After reading it, one thing you must understand: this is the true law of God. Remember! God’s law has never been abolished. Let us, brothers and sisters, ponder carefully: what is Chapter 24 about? Leviticus talks about people being beaten to death, and Exodus also talks about people being stoned to death. Furthermore, Aaron’s two sons offered strange fire, and fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them. In the New Testament, is our God still the same God?

Let's ask: in the New Testament, has our God changed? Was there an election in heaven that God lost? Did Jesus win? Is Jesus full of love? Was the God of the Old Testament voted out because He was too ruthless? Is that the case? The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are one and the same God.

How do we resolve the confusion within us? God is eternally unchanging. The Bible has long told us that God has never changed from everlasting to everlasting. Now, let us read this passage of Scripture. If you have confusion within you, the problem must lie within yourself.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must know that Chapter 24 is about Honoring the Name of the Lord as Holy. Let us take a closer look. Chapter 24 begins with the Israelites bringing oil to Moses, who then gives it to Aaron. Aaron is to tend the lamps from evening to morning before the Lord. This is to be a lasting ordinance for them, generation after generation.

Aaron is to keep the lamps on the pure gold lampstand burning before the Lord regularly, and a table is to be set with bread. Is it absolutely necessary to light these lamps? Later, I often pondered this matter. Today, our lights turn on as soon as we flip the switch, but the lamps in the Lord's Temple were different. It was a small wine cup filled with oil that was then lit.

If I were to be a priest, I think I would have a clever idea: I would put a whole large vat under the table, put the gold lampstand on top, and then have a long, thin wick that draws oil upwards. When the oil is about to run out, pour in another large bucket—automatic. Would that work? If so, that would be troublesome! People are very interesting; they always want to be lazy, but laziness does not honor God.

Serving God with a Reverent Heart is Our Duty

In the past, I thank God for giving me a heart of reverence for Him to serve Him. When I served people, I did not really treat them as honorable; I served them with the heart of serving God. Why? Because I fear my God, and I know that my God is very stern and powerful. He will by no means clear the guilty. I did not have the courage to offer strange fire before the Lord.

Once, I blasphemed the name of God and was immediately cursed. I spent money and effort, but in the end, I blasphemed the name of God. In fact, this state of blaspheming the name of God still happens often. People's thoughts are very dirty. They worry: if we just talk about Jesus, will people believe? So they add a lot of useless things, which results in blaspheming God.

Although we often run into obstacles in the process of evangelism, getting a face full of ash, and constantly being rebuffed, we still cannot add useless things. Later, I developed a habit of not offering my warm face to cold receptions. I do not want to warm their cold rejections; let them remain cold.

I often see pastors among us who are sometimes repeating the things I used to do. In fact, they do not know that serving God requires honoring the name of the Lord as holy. The name of our God is very honorable; our God is mighty; our God is the one who causes people to fall and rise; our God is the one who reveals the intentions of the heart; our God is a consuming fire; our God is full of power, full of dignity, and full of glory.

When we serve this God, we must honor the name of the Lord as holy. We must know that all things are under God's control. Every time I listen to my own thoughts, I often tell myself to fear God. So, when I serve, it is not because you are powerful or not, not because you deserve my service, but because I honor my God. Therefore, I often say, I serve you as I serve God, not because you are worthy of honor, but to always honor the name of the Lord as holy.

Taking God as God, Willingly and Gladly Keeping and Obeying God's Word

Today's Christians feel that God has no power, which is quite common. They always feel that we must help God do something, but God really does not need much help. How did the Apostle Paul serve? I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. Why do people offer sacrifices? Does God really need to eat bulls and sheep? No! Does God need people to honor His name? Not really; it is we who need to honor God's name!

If brothers and sisters grasp this key, whether it is lighting the lamp, offering incense, tithing, offering the first fruits, or offering the firstborn, it is all for one reason: to honor God. For example, a sheep does not give birth like a fish, with a large number of offspring at once. When a sheep only has one lamb, and it is not yet known how many lambs it will have in the future, the firstborn is offered first. This is honoring God.

We Chinese people like to give gifts. You have to give gifts to get things done! Would you give your leftovers as a gift? You would definitely be turned down! It would be better not to give a gift at all; giving a gift would completely ruin it. Whether it is tithing, offering a second tithe, lighting lamps, or offering sacrifices, everything is to solve one problem: honoring the name of the Lord as holy.

Do you think that in the New Testament, the name of God is no longer worthy of honor? No! In the New Testament, the name of God is still worthy of honor. Try to preach the wrong gospel in the New Testament and see if you will be cursed. Believe in the wrong gospel and see if you will be cursed. No matter when, everyone must know to honor the name of the Lord as holy, not to take the name of the Lord in vain, and certainly not to curse God! Taking the name of God in vain is a deadly sin! It is life-threatening!

The Requirement to Hallow the Name of Jehovah Has Never Changed

Do you know the Ten Commandments? Moses once promulgated them. What exactly are they? They draw a red line in our lives that we must not cross, lest we incur a curse.

To hallow the name of Jehovah, or not to take the name of the Lord your God in vain, to keep the Sabbath, and not to worship idols or murder, are all in the same category, a very basic level known as the Ten Commandments. Obeying them does not constitute sanctification, but it can solve the problem of not being subjected to a deep, deadly curse.

Therefore, tending to God’s lamp, maintaining the lamps on the golden lampstand, and keeping them lit with small bowls of oil, Aaron was quite busy! Adding a little oil now and then, without sleep, for if he slept, the oil would burn out. The New Testament says that ten virgins slumbered, and when Jesus came, He found their lamps without oil. The others had prepared oil, indicating that there must be oil in our lamps.

What is the relationship between having oil in our lamps and hallowing the name of Jehovah? Let me explain. Since we are discussing Leviticus, we must constantly tend to the lamp before Jehovah. What exactly is the lamp before Jehovah? The lamp is the spirit within a person, and the spirit of a person is the lamp before Jehovah. If the spirit is dead, the lamp is dead. Therefore, we must always tend to this lamp. How can the lamp be lit? How can the spirit within us be lit? Our spirit must come alive.

Pay close attention, I am connecting the entire thread: When man ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, his spirit died, but his body could still live for a while. Adam lived for over nine hundred years. We think that over nine hundred years is a long life, but in eternity, it is nothing. One day in heaven is like a thousand years on earth. If people look with earthly eyes, they will find it very strange.

What should man's spirit eat? It must eat the word of God. God’s law and God’s word are a lamp for our feet and a light on our path; they are the oil in our lamps. If there is no oil in the lamp, it means we have no word of God within us. Without the word of God, our spirit will be extinguished, our spirit will be dead, and we are worthy of death.

If a person’s spirit is dead, whether they die of cancer, are stoned to death, or die in some other way, it makes no difference to God. Therefore, to hallow the name of Jehovah and value the word of God, you will surely value spiritual things.

Even today, some people are foolish, and it is difficult to prosper when their spirit is not thriving. People often have a misconception that they must work hard to prosper. The biggest enigma in a person’s life is that they put their life into work but cannot get it back. Therefore, man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Man Lives by the Word of God, and It Is the Spirit That Gives Life

Some people think that man lives by his work, business, and family, relying on many things. But man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of God, and it is the spirit that gives life. It is not enough to read the word of God without doing it, but if you don’t read the word of God, what will you do?

Our brothers and sisters must know what you live by. I know that I live by the word of God. One sister wanted to donate because she was abroad, so she sent money through PayPal. However, PayPal fees are quite high, several percent. She hoped to pay by credit card.

But we have not connected the credit card payment channel with the bank. In the end, she still sent money through PayPal and wrote a sentence: I donate not because of you and me, but because of Jesus. I think that sounds very good. If she said, I donate because your preaching is very good, I wouldn’t dare to accept it. So, our brothers and sisters must hallow the name of God. What do you live by? If you live by work and money, then you don’t need God, and then you try it and see if it works. There are many things that will consume your money.

It is the spirit that gives life. If a person’s spirit is dead, what is the point of living? They are just walking corpses. Therefore, we must cultivate the spirit within us. The spirit within us is the lamp before Jehovah. The spirit of man eats the word of God. If a person does not often eat the word of God, the spirit will be starved and shriveled, and the lamp will flicker on and off. How can you prosper?

I am very moved. I see people clearly living under a curse but unwilling to repent, valuing only the few things before their eyes. So, you see how important it is to eat the word of God. So, you see, there is a lamp here, and below it are twelve loaves of bread, with a certain amount of flour and frankincense. That is our food. The word of God is our food, and the Spirit of God is the oil within us, the lamp within us.

There was an Israelite woman who gave birth to a child whose father was Egyptian. This woman brought the child out of Egypt, but the child’s father remained in Egypt, making the child fatherless. This child came out of Egypt with the Israelites, but did not die. Why?

Because on the day of Passover, he hid in the house of an Israelite, slaughtered a lamb, and put the lamb’s blood on the doorframe. Originally, he should have died, but he lived. After coming out of Egypt, he wandered around in the camp. Such idlers wander around aimlessly, like people without a spirit, people whose spirits are dead. Did he hear these words? He heard them, but he didn’t take them in.

It’s the same with many of us. I am speaking here, and they are taking notes there. I say: If you have faith like a mustard seed, you can move a mountain from here to there, and it doesn’t matter if you have doubts. But the note-taker wrote: You must have faith like a mustard seed, and you cannot have any doubts. Is it enough to have faith like a mustard seed, or can't you have doubts like a mustard seed? I am speechless. She was listening when I spoke, but she heard something else.

There are also many times, for example, when I mention the Book of Acts, Peter was arrested and put in prison. At night, an angel rescued Peter, and Peter went to the brothers and sisters and said, Please invite James and the brothers. I said: At that time, Peter greatly honored James. Then, after a while, a sister asked: Was Peter rescued by James? I said: What are you thinking? Do you think this James has great martial arts skills, flying over walls to kill the guards, smashing the door open, and rescuing Peter? Do you think this is a martial arts novel?

I was wondering, how confused must the inside of this person be? You say yours, he hears his, and as he listens, he thinks he’s listening to Shan Tianfang telling a story, or he should just listen to Jin Yong’s martial arts novels. What is he listening to!

Do Not Profane the Name of God

When the son of the Israelite woman was wandering around, he was just doing things that were not rewarding. That's how boring people are. Then he got into a fight with another equally boring Israelite. When fighting with people, they will curse people, and they will curse the other party’s mother, and bring out a whole bunch of their mother and ancestors.

Did the son of the Egyptian and Israelite woman not know the power of God? He knew. He watched with his own eyes the miracles that Jehovah God performed in Egypt, and then he wandered out. What did he see? He saw nothing. He didn’t take the Ten Commandments and other laws promulgated by Jehovah seriously, thinking they were nothing great. As a result, he fought with the Israelites and cursed the God of the Israelites.

Do you think cursing the God of the Israelites is a joke? Actually, it’s just utter foolishness! If a person doesn’t know the immensity of the heavens and the earth, and if their spirit is dead, they will dare to do anything. That's stirring up trouble with the powers that be. That's what I mean. You can fight if you fight, but why curse someone's mother? Why curse someone's father? Why curse someone's ancestors? Why curse someone's God? You are tired of living! You just don't know. As a result, good thing, the name of the mother who gave birth to this son is recorded in the Bible, named Shelomith, daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan, this is eternally recorded in the Bible.

I often hear the idea of mothers passing on faith. The influence of mothers on children is very powerful, so mothers must be very careful. Some mothers among us like to spoil their children. Spoiling children is a very deadly thing. For example, asking children to roll two socks together and turn them over, and as a result, the children get angry there.

Young children are not old, but they have big tempers. The temper grows with age. Loving others and God grows in favour with his age is like Jesus, but the degree to which he is annoying grows with age. What will you be like when you are old?

Therefore, mothers must discipline their children well. Why is this Shelomith recorded in the Bible? Because a lousy mother will influence a lousy son. Why? Because the mother is always scolding anyway, but the mother does not use a cane to discipline. When this son grows up, he will be like this virtue. Therefore, the Bible has long told us that the cane and the rod of discipline are still very useful for children. Although the discipline of the rod of discipline is not necessarily 100% useful, it is definitely useless if you do not use it.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must understand that it is the mother’s influence on the child that causes the child to go out and blaspheme God. The mother may say to the child: Child, don't suffer losses when you go out. After you go out, whoever bullies you, beat him up and fix him. If he curses your mother, you curse his grandmother. If he curses your ancestors, you curse his god! In fact, this is a very bad teaching. As a result, this child blasphemes the name of God.

Whoever Blasphemes the Name of God Must Be Put to Death

The country has a legislative body and an enforcement body. Because Moses had only promulgated the Ten Commandments not long ago, these Ten Commandments had just been established and were brand new and had not been implemented. The Bible records that the Ten Commandments have only been implemented a few times. The first law enforcement was that the Ten Commandments clearly stated that the Sabbath must be a day of rest from all work, but someone went up the mountain to collect firewood on the Sabbath. We can understand him, after all, it is cold at home, and the children are shivering from the cold, but God does not understand. This man went up the mountain to collect firewood and came back, and Moses asked God: What should be done about this matter? God said: Stone him to death. As a result, this man was stoned to death.

We always don’t understand: Is it fatal to violate the Sabbath? Not necessarily, is it? Isn't it better to give people a chance? Running a red light will result in twelve points being deducted. What does it mean to not keep the Sabbath? Actually, I tell you, this problem is very serious. Whoever made him unlucky, many people did not keep the Sabbath and God did not care, but he ran into the muzzle of a gun.

After the blaspheming the name of God law was promulgated, it was still new and had not been used. When it came to Shelomith’s son, he was arrested for blaspheming the name of God. They asked God what to do. God said: Those who hear his blasphemy of God shall lay their hands on his head, and the whole congregation shall stone him to death. This means that everyone who hears it is defiled.

Has our God changed to this day? No, our God is still this kind of God today. Some people say: Why haven't I seen God kill people today? I tell you, none of these people will be let go by God. We must tell ourselves: I want to hallow the name of Jehovah, this is no joke.

We must know that the God of the Old Testament and the New Testament is the same God. It is not that the God of the Old Testament is very cruel, and the God of the New Testament is very loving. From ancient times to the present, God will surely punish those who hate God, from father to son, up to the third to fourth generation. There is no need to think about those who violate God's Ten Commandments. God will definitely punish their sins up to the third and fourth generations.

Some people say: Why haven't I seen it? Let's look at those corrupt officials who have been convicted, can their descendants be good? They are definitely not good, very miserable. People say again: That's not right, that's a political struggle. That's not entirely the case. In fact, these people are also doing something very bad. Many of them have murder cases. Although this is what the news says, it's hard to tell whether it's true or false, but they tell many stories.

A corrupt official was arrested some time ago, and more than a hundred people in the entire community were his mistresses. I believe many people are very envious, but everyone will not be envious of this person being sentenced to death later. Therefore, in this era, it is very important to hallow the name of Jehovah. We must never disagree with God. It doesn't matter if we are enemies with anyone, but if we are enemies with God, it will be very troublesome.

Now will brothers and sisters still feel injustice for those who were put to death for violating laws and regulations? For example, do you feel injustice for Shelomith's son? In fact, if a person’s spirit is dead, it doesn’t matter how they die, whether they are 10, 20, 30, 50, or 80 years old. Whether they are stoned to death or killed by someone, it is the same to God. People will think: Oh, what a pity, they died so young. In fact, it is the same whether people live a few more years or a few fewer years, there is really no difference. Therefore, never feel injustice for such people.

We must know that whoever blasphemes the name of Jehovah, whether a sojourner or a native, must be put to death. This law was not established today, it is an eternal rule for all generations. If you can understand, you will hallow the name of Jehovah, you will take good care of the lamp within you, let the spirit within you be alive, and eat the word of God well. People should not put hope in business, work, or their son, and don't put hope in something.

It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail. I don't understand some people very well. They just like to operate the flesh. For example, some sisters do beauty treatments. In order to prevent the skin from drooping, they have to push their faces upward with their hands. Will pushing the skin upward prevent it from drooping? It is better to stick it with tape and push it up with your hand. But is it useful to push it back and forth? What people believe is very complicated and absurd. In fact, after we think about it, we think, what is this? When people reach a certain age, they will have wrinkles on their necks and bags under their eyes. There is nothing that can be done about it. People cannot overcome the earth.

I’m not saying these things to make fun of you, but to let you know that people should operate the spirit within. When the spirit is thriving, everything is thriving. If the Bible records: You have to push your face upwards with your hands, then we will do it; but the Bible does not say this. The Bible says: We must often operate the spirit within. Thank God, He didn't teach us to poke our faces up and down. Look at my face, there are not many people who are younger than me at my age. I don't use those facial cleansers to wash my face, I just wipe it with a bar of soap and it's done, which is pretty good.

Therefore, we must let our spirit thrive. If a person's spirit is thriving, their head will not be confused, their eyes will not be blurred, they will not often feel dizzy, they will not walk unsteadily, and they will not fall. Brothers and sisters, you must understand that if a person’s spirit is thriving, they will not be idle and blaspheme God, and in the end, they will invite a curse.

When the spirit is thriving, you often eat the word of God, the word of God is clear to you, your understanding is very clear, and you understand what it means to live, you will not overestimate your abilities and be idle to be an enemy of God. Everyone understands that an arm cannot twist a thigh, can people fight against God? People fiddle around, but they only have those two tricks. No matter how you fiddle, even if you burn it to ashes, God will recognize you.

When the Spirit Is Thriving, Understanding Will Be Clear and Everything Will Prosper

Many people live a useless life because they are unwilling to let their spirit thrive. If people’s spirits are not thriving, their understanding will be unclear. Conversely, if their understanding is unclear, their spirits will be even more unclear. This is a vicious cycle. The end result is that the longer they live, the more miserable they become. , you will understand what it means to live and how a person can live prosperously.

“Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death. And whoever takes an animal’s life shall make it good, life for life. (Leviticus 24:17-18)

This is always the rule that God has established. Some people say: No, Jesus said, it is not an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a life for a life. In fact, what Jesus said is from our own perspective. When people harm us, we must not fight with them. It does not mean that God's law has been changed. God's law has never been changed.

If someone hits my eye, I will hit someone’s eye; if someone knocks out one of my teeth, I will knock out someone’s tooth. That is called an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. If our spirits are thriving, will we encounter such things as being hit in the eye or having a tooth knocked out? The answer is no. Therefore, a person’s lack of spiritual prosperity brings many problems. If a person blinds my eyes, and I also blind the other person’s eyes, what can I get?

Don’t get me wrong; it's not that God's law has been abolished, but that we must learn to forgive others. If someone beats us, we must examine the problems in our spirit, not find this problem in others and make up for it, but find the problem in ourselves. Therefore, whoever kills an animal must pay for the animal, and whoever kills a person must be put to death. This is God's law. If you are a person who loves others as yourself, and you are willing to forgive others, that is your deed. Good deeds are Chinese words, not from that religion.

When a person is thriving in their spirit, they will avoid many problems. If wild boars have arched your land, why hasn’t the land of spiritually prospering people been arched? We must know that “hallowing the name of Jehovah” is a concept that Leviticus has always promoted. If people do not hallow the name of Jehovah, everything they do will be unlucky. If you don’t know this is a curse, then I will read it to you. Many people still don’t know this is a curse today.

“The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will go out one way against them but will flee from them in seven ways. You will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth. Your carcasses will be food for all the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away. The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured. The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark.

You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you. You will be pledged to be married to someone else, and another will take her and sleep with her; you will build a house, but you will not live in it; you will plant a vineyard, but you will not even begin to enjoy its fruit. Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it; your donkey will be forcibly taken from you and will not be returned; your sheep will be given to your enemies, and no one will rescue them. Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand..

A people that you do not know will eat up the fruit of your land and all your labor; you will be oppressed and crushed continually. The Lord will inflict you with painful sores on your knees and legs, from the soles of your feet to the top of your head, that cannot be cured.(Deuteronomy 28:25-35)

These are all curses! How many people can reflect on whether they are living under a curse? How many people can understand that they can't continue like this? Many people continue like this in curses, continue not to hallow the name of Jehovah; continue to live in human ways, continue in curses, and continue to experience these things. We can't help these bad things that people experience in their lives! Don’t think today that I am a Christian and use the precious blood of Jesus as a rag to wipe it off when I have nothing to do. Isn’t this troublesome? Therefore, we must be clear in our understanding.

Many times, I am deeply moved. When can people set themselves apart to God? Is it difficult for us to set apart the Lord’s Day and Bible study time for God? Many people spend their time doing business. If you do well, I congratulate you. But you are still living under a curse, and many bad things have happened to you, and you still don’t wake up.

I am also very helpless. Even the God I serve with all my heart, His mighty arm has never been shortened, and what He has released on you are all curses. Why? Because people choose not to hallow the name of Jehovah God. People must hallow the name of Jehovah, people must set themselves apart to God, see through this little thing of living, remove the garbage in their minds. Wouldn’t it be a time of grace for people to be able to summarize something from what they have experienced and wake up?

Conclusion: We Must Hallow the Name of Jehovah

I encourage everyone to know that there are two paths you can take with God: God will surely punish those who hate God, from father to son, and be cursed for three to four generations; God will surely keep His covenant and show love to those who love God for thousands of generations. Brothers and sisters, rethink how we should spend our lives in this world. Should we light the lamp within us, light our spirit, and illuminate our bodies? Often fill our lamps with oil, let the word of God and God's law be constantly in our mouths, never leaving us, until we leave this world and return to God, and receive God's praise.

Everything we do in our lives can glorify God's name. We come into this world to glorify our God. Therefore, what we call today is Mingding Doctrine, we are born for this, we live for this, we give our lives for God, and our lives are to hallow the name of Jehovah!

May God bless everyone!
