【Bible Study】Leviticus 06 - Priests Bear the Responsibility for Atonement

2020-11-13 25,046 Leviticus Sacrifice Priest Prayer Sin Logical System Grace

A Study of Leviticus

Introduction

Good day, everyone. Let's turn to Leviticus, Chapter 6. When it comes to the question of how a person can live well, the answers are incredibly diverse. Some people think that living well requires money. Is that really the case? If you observe closely, having money doesn't necessarily guarantee a good life. If you delve deeper, it's a myth. Others believe that to live well, one needs power, to be above the masses, second only to one. Is that really the case? If only it were that simple.

Historically, Li Si of the Qin Dynasty was very capable, but he was a farmer. Through observation, he realized that the rats in the granary lived well, eating their fill and basking in the sun; the rats in the toilet lived miserably, fighting for scraps, living hard lives. Later, he became the Prime Minister of the Qin Dynasty. Did he live well then? Actually, he didn't, and his ending was tragic.

People always think they should be like rats in a granary, but how can a person truly live well? To live well, one must resolve the issue of sin. If sin is dealt with, one can live well. When a person is sick, they need healing and deliverance, but what's most needed is repentance, and the most important thing to resolve is the issue of sin. Why do we pray? Prayer itself is a sacrifice. So, if you want to live well today, you must first address the issue of sin. How do you resolve the issue of sin? Someone has to do the work of sacrifice. And who does that? The priests.

Therefore, priests must bear the responsibility of atonement, which is also the theme of Leviticus, Chapter 6. Today, we must understand what it means to be a Christian. Christians are priests of the living God. This is important! The work of a priest is to have their hands reach the throne of God and their feet stand on the ground, bringing God's blessings down from heaven and taking people's problems from earth to God. The priesthood is a very glorious office. It's crucial to address the responsibilities of being a priest. The entire book of Leviticus is about how to be a priest. The Book of Isaiah, a book of prophecy, can be summarised as being a priest of the living God. We created a song called “Arise, Shine!” because as priests of the living God, we will be raised up to shine. Therefore, priests must bear the responsibility of atonement.

The Fire on the Altar Must Be Kept Burning; It Must Not Go Out

Leviticus 6:8-13 talks about the priests resolving the issue of the altar. The altar is for sacrifices. The altar must have fire burning constantly, every day. Why must it burn every day? Because whether people come to offer burnt offerings or sin offerings, they need to be burned on the altar, and the fire on the altar must not go out. This is very important.

Our church is a church of prayer, praying to an unimaginable extent, but compared to what Leviticus says about the fire on the altar never going out, we are still a bit short. But we will continue to press on until we fully enter into God's will. Priests build altars with fire; today, we build churches of prayer. Recently, we suddenly realized that Satan wants to corrupt the church. We had never completely overcome this, so we decided to have three days and three nights of continuous, 72-hour prayer. The effect of continuous prayer is the resolution of the issue of sin.

A person who fights against the devil must be someone who has completely offered themselves to God, and then they can tend to the fire on the altar, which is our fire of prayer. Our fire of prayer must not go out. So, does prayer waste time? No, prayer doesn't waste time. Not praying wastes time because the fire on the altar must not go out.

Recently, I’ve noticed a peculiar phenomenon in different settings: those close to us are blessed. Yesterday, I ministered to a sister whose friend lived near her. Recently, she left this place to work far away. Then her friend called her, saying that her friend's son had committed suicide at home, and the body had just been taken away in the morning. Then she told our sister that when you lived here, this place was peaceful; since you left, many families here have had problems.

This is because our sister prayed every day when she lived here. This prayer turned that place into a fiery altar, and a fiery altar resolved the work of sacrifice and atonement. If a person’s sin is atoned for, the outcome of their life will be different.

Some time ago, I returned to the place where our original physical church was located. I saw the desolation, completely different from when we were there. Many shops were closed; the desolation was heartbreaking. When we were there, it was prosperous; when we left, it declined. I wondered if it was related to our presence. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but I tell you, wherever there is a fiery altar, there you will see God's presence and blessing. Don't think the fire on this altar is common fire; it is God's holy fire. Since it’s God's holy fire, why do the priests keep adding wood to keep the fire burning? Because that is the priest's responsibility.

When we buy property, we like to buy in cheaper areas, what we call low-lying areas. Recently, some properties we bought were very desolate and didn't look prosperous, but they were cheap and in good locations. Then one of our sisters bought one, and after buying it, we established a fiery prayer altar there. As a result, in the past year or so, this place has become prosperous.

This sister bought the property at the lowest price, but when others bought later, it had already increased by about twenty to thirty percent! Actually, the entire Singapore property market only increased by about one or two percent, but this sister’s property increased a lot. What I mean is, where there is an altar of prayer, prosperity is more likely. This year, we have watched this community become prosperous, and many surrounding properties have been developed.

Yesterday, I received bad news. In a Singaporean prayer group of mighty warriors that I know, one brother said last week: I’m not playing with you guys anymore. I'm leaving the group. I have to take care of my own things. I don't have time to pray and fight with you.” This was just a week or so ago, and yesterday I received news of his death. Before he died, he was still on the phone with someone, and an hour later he passed away. He was sent to the hospital, and the doctor said it was a heart attack. He was a man who loved money and the world. He even came to me for prayer when he was sick, and he really got better after I prayed.

So I went to his funeral. I thought, people just live and die, it’s so sad! He was younger than me! And then he was gone. I was very moved, and I said to God, God, let me serve you well in this world, build a fiery altar, and always do the work of atonement. May what I do be pleasing to you, and may what I do prosper through your grace!

I think no matter what you save time on, don't save time on prayer. No matter what you save time on, don't save time on building a fiery altar of prayer.

**The Lord commanded Moses: “Give Aaron and his sons this command: ‘These are the regulations for the burnt offering: The burnt offering is to remain on the hearth of the altar all night until morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar. The priest shall then put on his linen clothes, with linen undergarments next to his body, and shall remove the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar and place them beside the altar. Then he is to take off these clothes and put on other clothes, and take the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean. The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not be allowed to go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out. (Leviticus 6:8-13)

Keep it burning, never let it go out. Repeated three times in a row. So we must understand what we live by. Do we live by money? No, money cannot solve all our problems; the problems that money can solve are very limited. Do we live by work? No, we live today by fulfilling the priest's responsibility, serving God. Keep the fire on the altar burning, never let it go out, and then there are those who offer burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sin offerings. Offering sacrifices for atonement is our responsibility as priests. Once we offer sacrifices for atonement, we will prosper in many things.

The brother I mentioned earlier died. How could he have died just one week after leaving the group? Whether it’s related to leaving the group, let’s not argue about it for now, but I tell you, in my opinion, as long as there is an altar of prayer, and people burn incense and offer sacrifices on this altar, the result will be the forgiveness of sins.

Living in the Flesh Is Living in Sin

What exactly is sin? Anything that lives according to the flesh is sin. If a person lives in the flesh, they will feel that money is more important to them, that finances are the most important.

The Lord said to Moses: “If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving a neighbour about something entrusted to them or left in their care or about something stolen, or if they defraud their neighbour, or if they find something lost and lie about it, or if they swear falsely about any such sin that people may commit— when they sin in any of these ways and realize their guilt, they must return what they have stolen or taken by fraud, or what was entrusted to them or the lost thing they found, or whatever it was they swore falsely about. They must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day they realize their guilt. And as a penalty they must bring to the priest, that is, to the Lord, their guilt offering, a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for them before the Lord, and they will be forgiven for any of these things they did that made them guilty.”(Leviticus 6:1-7)

Everyone must know that if sin is not forgiven, demons will torment you. They might say he died of a heart attack, but in my opinion, Old Ma grabbed him away. Why did Old Ma grab him away? We don't know the details, but it's because he had sin on him. If you think carefully, you will find that some records in the Bible are very interesting. People live and die, and this is inseparable from sin. It is impossible to live well if you sin.

Let me tell you about the Ten Commandments. Worshipping idols is a sin, and you cannot live well if you do that. The fifth commandment is to honour your parents; the sixth is not to murder; the seventh is not to commit adultery; the eighth is not to steal; the ninth is not to bear false witness against anyone; and the tenth is not to covet your neighbour's house, wife, servants, ox, donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbour. All of these are related to finances.

As far as I know, the sin of coveting other people's wealth is very serious. Demons can take people's lives at any time. Having a fiery altar and the opportunity to atone for sins is a grace. Some people say, “What kind of grace is this? I owe someone ten dollars, and after returning ten dollars, I still have to compensate an extra fifth, two dollars more. I took advantage of ten dollars and have to pay twelve dollars, and I also have to find a ram without defects from the flock. Is this worth it?

You can't calculate the accounts like this because the Christian sacrifice resolves the issue of sin, and only by resolving the issue of sin can you live well. You must know that having sin means being against God. How can you live well? If a person loves the world, the love of God is not in them. But if a person loves God and is aware of their sins, they atone for their sins. Giving back however much money is better than carrying sin. As far as I know, no one who has coveted other people's houses has lived well. King Ahab seized someone else's vineyard and died miserably.

The most important responsibility of being a priest of the Lord God is to manage a fiery altar. Our church in the early days was not a church of prayer; there was no fiery altar, and it suffered a lot. Later, I repented and established a church of prayer. Someone said, If twenty percent of your church members participate in prayer meetings, your church cannot but be revived! Later, one hundred percent of our church members participated in prayer meetings, but it didn't revive much, but it solved the fundamental problem and became a church of prayer, often praying continuously for several days, after which things would happen.

A Determination to Thoroughly Deal with Sin

But no sin offering, of which any of the blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. (Leviticus 6:30)

The priest from among Aaron’s descendants who is anointed to succeed him shall offer it. It is a perpetual ordinance. It shall be wholly burned to the Lord. Every grain offering of the priest shall be wholly burned. It shall not be eaten. (Leviticus 6:22-23)

Some sacrifices are edible after being offered, while others are not. There are two instances where the meat is not to be eaten when the blood is brought into the tent of meeting for atonement in the Holy Place. The first is when the priest sins, causing the congregation and the people to fall into sin. The second is when the entire congregation of Israel does what the Lord has commanded not to be done. Both of these are very serious. If the church is led into sin because of the pastor, such as through erroneous teachings, then the meat of the sacrifice cannot be eaten. Other sacrifices, such as those offered for the sins of officials or individuals, the remaining portions can be eaten.

How should we interpret this in the New Testament era? I believe this is what everyone is concerned about. The church must be a fiery altar, a praying church. Without prayer, there is no way to offer sacrifices. With a praying altar, a fiery altar, there is an altar for atonement. If the congregation is led into sin because of the pastor's erroneous teachings, then partaking in Holy Communion is useless. Therefore, we must know that the sin of the priest can lead the entire congregation into sin, or the entire congregation sins against God by doing what He has commanded not to be done. I can only regretfully tell you that even if the entire church observes Holy Communion, it is of no use. But if it is not such a situation, whoever eats the sacrificial meat or touches it will be called holy, because it is a sin offering, and sin can be forgiven.

But I must tell everyone in advance, and I do not want you to misunderstand me. I really do not care whether people come to church or how much money you donate. I only care about one thing: can you live well? Can the sins on you be sacrificed through a fiery altar so that your sins can be forgiven? Some people may wonder, why bother so much? Has not our Jesus Christ already offered the atoning sacrifice for us? Yes, but that does not replace the church's need to pray and fight. Our Lord Jesus is a praying God. Do not be self-righteous. Prayer is very important for the church. If a church has many erroneous teachings, it is very dangerous.

Before, a sister came to me, showing a tendency to worship masters. In fact, I want to tell everyone that worshiping masters cannot solve the problem of sin. Praying to God and asking Him to blot out our transgressions is the key to solving the problem. Offering a sin offering, and having a fiery altar and a pure gospel, is more important than anything else! Since she has the idea of worshiping masters, it means she has problems that need to be solved. I told her that I would arrange a time to pray for her, but the prayer did not work. You may wonder, is it not said that all prayers at your place are effective? Are not all healed? Indeed, all can be healed, but the problem of sin must be solved through the altar of sacrifice, and the altar must have fire. The entire church cannot live in an erroneous belief system. To live in an erroneous belief system is to live in sin.

But I know a lot of Christians who live in an erroneous theological system. I often hear them say that they pay a great price. I would ask them, what price have you paid? But after listening, I find that it is not much of a price. They still think it is a great price, and they say that they have a great destiny, but they cannot explain their destiny clearly. I advise them that the diseases on our bodies come from the sins within us. On this point, the demons will not be wrong, and God will not be wrong. Even if these diseases befall me, I will only feel that it is my own fault, caused by the sins on my body.

The key to solving the problem is that the church must have an altar with fire, and the entire congregation cannot fall into sin because of erroneous teachings. Those who serve as priests must have correct teachings, teaching the correct truth of God. If the pastor twists the word of God, he will also get sick, and prayer will not be effective; he will have to see a doctor.

A brother came to us before. I asked him, how is your church? Why do you not seek prayer from your church's pastor when you are sick? He said, Our church is very interesting. The pastor of our church has to find the church's doctor to see him when he gets sick. I continued to ask, What if your church's doctor gets sick? He said, The pastor of our church will not solve his problems either. I think this is all a result of erroneous teachings and an erroneous belief system.

Brothers and sisters, after listening to my words, you can first ponder whether my words distort the truth. Why does Leviticus mention that if the priest or the entire congregation sins, all the sacrifices offered must be burned? The reason is very simple: people live in a fleshly logical system and feel that they must have this or that. When people live according to their internal logical system for fleshy things, they have to speak the words of God even if they have thoughts of greed and coveting other people's houses. How can he preach the pure gospel?

Faced with this situation, we must learn to completely dedicate ourselves to God as a sin offering, completely burn away the sins within us, which means having a thorough determination to deal with sin. How filthy is sin? Our sacrificial animal for atonement, the meat of the sacrificial animal, must be cooked in earthenware, and the earthenware must be broken and discarded after cooking. Think about how filthy that sin must be. How high are the standards of holiness that our God requires? If it is cooked in copper utensils, the copper utensils must be smeared and cleaned because there is sin in them. Why does touching the sacrificial animal make one holy? Because when we offer sacrifices, the sins on our bodies will be attributed to this sacrificial animal.

Restoring Destiny, Becoming a Blessing

If you want to live well, especially brothers and sisters who are still sick, the most important problem you need to solve is whether to continue living in an erroneous worldly logical system. The protagonist of the funeral I attended this time was quite familiar with me. He wanted to live well, but would the demons allow him to live well? Would God allow him to live well? This is why I often emphasize that there is no blessing outside of destiny.

What a person lives for is his destiny. I live for God, which is my destiny. But let us ask ourselves carefully whether living for the sake of living can really solve the problem of sin on us. No, which means that people will live in sin as they live, so how can they live well?

If our destiny is to serve God, build a fiery altar, and take on the responsibility of completing atonement, we will see God's grace come. That is why there are so many people healed among us. A few days ago, someone emailed me and told me that his hand had numbness. He is a pastor and usually likes to listen to the sermons on my website. In fact, hand numbness is a very serious problem. It is a demon living in a person's heart.

All people with heart problems will have numbness in their hands. A person whose heart is disturbed by the spirit of death has very serious problems. Brothers and sisters, begin to know what you want to live for. If you say, I just want to be an ordinary Christian. I don't want to take on this responsibility of atonement. I just want to get some benefits, then I can only tell you to slowly follow your logical system and see what the final outcome will be.

Some people love the world very much. I have never heard anyone say to me, I have not served God well. I cry bitterly. God, have mercy on me! Few people say, I have not served God enough. Whenever they call me, they say that there are problems with work, problems with immigration, problems with permits, problems with status, and other worldly matters. Some people even cry when they talk about it. What is there to cry about in these worldly matters? It is as if they have missed some great opportunity, and the whole person collapses. How foolish! People who live to pursue earthly things will live like the dead brother I mentioned. He does not have to be busy with worldly things anymore. May God have mercy!

We must know our responsibility, know our destiny. Our destiny is to build an altar of atonement. Our hands must touch the throne of God and bring down God's blessings, becoming a blessing to this generation. We must be priests who can bring people's problems before the throne of God. This is our glorious destiny. May God bless everyone!
