Introduction
When it comes to reading the Bible, men read it, angels read it, and even the devil reads it. You’ll find it quite intriguing that the same Bible is read by the devil. Do you think that after reading it, he'll become a saint? He will not. There is a devil's way of reading the Bible, a human way, and a divine way. If you read the Bible in the devil's way, you will find it very arduous. If you read it in the human way, you also won't be able to delve deep. But if you read it in the way God requires us to, you can truly understand it.
So, how does God require us to read the Bible? This is of utmost importance. So today, we will discuss how to read the Bible. In the Gospel of John, it says that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. The Holy Spirit will lead us to understand the truth, which means that without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, there is no way to understand the Bible. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is very difficult to understand the Bible.
Obeying the Guidance of the Holy Spirit
In John 16:13, it says, But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.
Without the Holy Spirit, it is difficult for us to imagine the truth. For example, the Gospel of John in the Bible says that two disciples were on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. As they were walking, they did not understand that Jesus had resurrected. They were very confused because they were Jews and had heard that Jesus was crucified. Jesus came and walked with them, explaining as they went, and then they finally understood. When they entered the room, they saw that it was the Lord Jesus.
When the Lord Jesus disappeared, they felt a burning in their hearts that day and rushed more than 20 kilometers back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples that they had seen the Lord. This means that when reading the Bible, we must find the correct entry point. Without the Holy Spirit, it is difficult for us to read the Bible. The Holy Spirit guides us to read in the way God wants us to understand, which is very important. It is crucial to view God's words from God's perspective.
Let me give you an example. If someone writes a letter and you read it, if you don’t see the letter from that person’s perspective, you won’t understand it, and you’ll misinterpret it. That is to say, we must read everything according to the author's intention. If you guess blindly, it will be very confusing. You must follow what the author wrote, that is, the Spirit of God, the Spirit that revealed and wrote the Bible, and He tells us how to read the Bible. But what should we do after we read it? Do we just finish after reading?
After reading, we need to put them into practice. I tell you, you must read the words of the Bible and then put them into practice. How the Holy Spirit guides us, if we enter into God's will and act, when we act, the Spirit of God will be manifested, and we will find that God's words are not boring and tasteless. The Spirit of God and the words of God are very important, and we will see God's grace and God's blessings. Our lives will be changed, which is a very wonderful thing. So today I want to encourage brothers and sisters to read the Bible with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
If a person reads the Bible according to the devil's method, it will be very dangerous. Who would read the Bible according to the devil's method? In the Bible, there is a type of people called Pharisees, who read the Bible according to the devil's method. That must be very troublesome, so the Lord Jesus said that they are a brood of vipers. Today, in the process of reading the Bible, we must understand the importance of the Holy Spirit.
Act upon God's Word
In Matthew 7:24, Jesus says that everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is a wise man. That is to say, what God wants us to do is very important. I have tried it before, and many people have read Genesis. After reading it, how do we put it into practice? This is very interesting.
For example, in Genesis Chapter 1, In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. I ask you, how do we put this into practice? We cannot go back to the time when God created the heavens and the earth. Do we want to create a heaven and an earth? Does God want to tell us that He created the heavens and the earth?
No, why did God tell us that He created the heavens and the earth in the beginning? Because He wants to tell us how to act. How should we put it into practice? We must ask the Holy Spirit. How should we act? The later Bible tells us that God created us in His image, and we have the glorious image of God.
When God encountered emptiness, void, and darkness over the surface of the deep, do you know what God did? God let His Spirit move in the emptiness, void, and darkness, then God spoke and said, Let there be light, and there was light. When I first started to lead everyone to study Genesis, I was very confused and didn't know how to put this sentence into practice. I can't act on this sentence. I am very confused and don't know how to put this sentence into practice.
I said to God, I do not know how to proceed. God then revealed to me that people often encounter emptiness, chaos, and darkness upon the face of the deep. When such a person comes before you, you need to do two things: Firstly, the Spirit of God needs to move upon him. Secondly, you must declare that there should be hope and there should be light. I said, these words are good, very good indeed.
I tested this out. One day, there was a person whose pupils were dilated, unable to focus, and in a state of mental confusion. I observed that this person was in a state of collapse because he was about to get married, but his girlfriend ran off with someone else, a fraud who had another boyfriend. As a result, he was devastated. Not long after, he found another girlfriend, who asked him how much he earned a month. He said S$1,000. The girl left, leaving the boy in a state of mental confusion.
I then said, let me lead you in prayer so that the Spirit of God may move upon you, and let him receive the Holy Spirit. As he received the Holy Spirit and prayed in tongues, I witnessed a dramatic change in his eyes. I said, that's great, and spoke to him with words of hope. As a result, he recovered. A few years later, he got married, had two or three children, and his salary is quite high.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must know today that the Gospel we believe in is powerful. Sometimes why there is no power, is that there is no movement of the Spirit of God. Proclamation is in vain. For something creative to happen, there must be a movement of the Spirit of God. When people proclaim the Word of God, things are accomplished. For example, I declare that this sickness shall be healed, and the sickness can be healed.
Once there was a child with a high fever, because his family curse was quite deep. I took him to pray, and he was healed. As soon as I prayed, he sweated, and the fever subsided. He could get up to eat, and he looked very energetic.
The movement of the Spirit of God is a key to our faith. Letting the Spirit of God move upon us is key to our blessings. Where the Spirit of God is, there is freedom. You see how important this is. How to let the Holy Spirit move is that after the Lord Jesus ascended to heaven, He allowed us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and this is the movement.
Therefore, some people think that praying in tongues and the movement of the Holy Spirit are optional. But that is not the case. Without the movement of the Holy Spirit, your pronouncements of God's Word will not be fulfilled. With the movement of the Holy Spirit, our pronouncements will be fulfilled. Not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit of God is mighty.
When I read Genesis Chapter 1, verses 1, 2, and 3, it is the most important Word of God in the entire Bible. I went to pray, God, how do you want me to proceed? Then I followed this method to read and understand the whole Bible. The Bible reveals many truths, and if we grasp each one, it will be extraordinary.
After reading the Word of God, we must know that in the Bible, there are important truths and secondary truths. Not all truths are the same. For example, there is the truth of tithing, the truth of healing, and the truth of living a holy life. But if the order is wrong, it will bring trouble. What is the most important Word of God? The most important truth is to build a glorious and victorious Church of God. If you separate from this truth, the other truths cannot stand.
In the process of believing in the Lord throughout our lives, we must grasp the most important, the second most important, the third most important, as well as other less important things. But if you grasp the less important and do not grasp the most important, that is the Pharisees' way of reading the scriptures. Therefore, Jesus criticized them, saying that you grasp the unimportant things, but you discard the important things. You swallow camels, but you strain out gnats. Have you heard these words?
This is the Pharisees' way of reading the scriptures, which means that you must grasp the most important thing, and you must not discard the important thing because of the unimportant thing. You must grasp the most important thing. Therefore, when leading brothers and sisters in Bible study, there will be no confusion. Everyone must know what is the first important, the second important, and the third important, and your spiritual life will surely be edified.
