What image comes to mind when you think of Satan? If you search for Satanism online, you are presented with images of witches with fierce faces, glaring eyes, murderous intent, wearing brown cloaks, and hunching their backs. But is this the true nature of Satan? What does the Bible say about the existence of Satan?
Matthew 16:23 records a conversation between Jesus and Peter: Jesus turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.'
As we continue to pray and contend, we gain a deeper understanding of the attributes of Satan. Why did Jesus say to Peter, Get behind me, Satan!? Because Satan is very considerate of human concerns but not of God's concerns. Therefore, when you have certain ideas that seem very reasonable and agreeable to people, it is very likely that they originate from Satan.
Recently, we have been continuously striking at the spirit of Satan. During New Year's and Christmas, we dedicated time to engage in prolonged prayer warfare. We have discovered several characteristics of the spirit of Satan:
A logic system that is based on this life, causing people to prioritize earthly matters. There is a popular saying now that family comes first, and one should focus on managing their family well. This leads many Christians to focus solely on their own small lives – family, work, house – but they are unwilling to pay the price and completely disregard eternal life. Why do many Christians live unblessed lives, facing frequent illnesses, relationship problems, and various disasters? It is because they believe Satan's lies and reject the eternal God.
Satan is very deceptive. If a person has the spirit of Satan, he/she is likely to be a very nice person. Why? Because Satan likes to play false. The church is a place to solve people's problems, break down the flesh, and deal with bad habits, not a place to throw parties. Therefore, we have been constantly dealing with the nice person mentality, dealing with falsehood, and dealing with a mindset that is considerate of people but disobedient to God. If a pastor is afraid of offending people, likes to play superficial relationships, and likes to engage in politics within the church, all of this is the spirit of Satan.
How to deal with the spirit of Satan? Simply praying does not completely solve the problem. To deal with the spirit of Satan, one must seek their own problems with understanding. If a person is not living in God's will and still thinks they are right, being very self-righteous, they are basically completely deceived by Satan. As Christians, we must be mindful of Satan's schemes. The following are prayers and sermons on breaking the spirit of Satan:
