【Sermon】Experiencing God in the Storm

2016-12-05 7,618 Sermon

In the storm, God is what’s most needed

Imbalance breeds storms.

A small life cannot withstand great storms.

1 Scripture

Acts 27:14-25

2 Prayer

3 Foreknowledge to evade the Storm

3-1 Paul advised against setting sail, yet they encountered a storm.

3-2 Develop the capability for foreknowledge

3-3 Seize opportunities amidst turbulence.

4 Even if people disregard warnings and enter the storm, they will experience God's salvation

4-1 In God's hands, none shall be lost.

4-2 Saved because of Paul

5 The Reactions of People in the Storm

5-1 Mental collapse

5-2 Seek God before the storm arrives

5-3 Seeking God allows one to experience Him during the storm.

6 All on board were saved because of Paul

6-1 Through Paul, salvation is attained.

7 The entire ship was lost, yet all lives were spared.

8 After disembarking, the people of Malta also experienced God through Paul!

8-1 Propel the revival of the world

8-2 Become a blessing to this generation

9 Conclusion: The storm is not the issue; whether we are Paul is the key!

Act 27:14 Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the “Northeaster,” swept down from the island.

Act 27:15 When the ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.

Act 27:16 Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we managed with difficulty to secure the ship's boat.

Act 27:17 After hoisting it up, they used cables to undergird the ship; and fearing that they might run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and so were driven along.

Act 27:18 The next day, as we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to jettison the cargo;

Act 27:19 and on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands.

Act 27:20 Since neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest was raging, all hope of our being saved was gradually abandoned.

Act 27:21 Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up in their midst and said, Men, you ought to have followed my advice and not have set sail from Crete, and incurred this damage and loss.

Act 27:22 Yet now I urge you to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

Act 27:23 For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood before me,

Act 27:24 saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar; and behold, God has granted you all those who are sailing with you.'

Act 27:25 Therefore, keep up your courage, men, for I believe God, that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.
