[Sermon] Be Faithful Stewards of God

2018-01-15 20,197 Sermon

1. Foreword

Today, I want to talk to you about faithfulness, and the theme I will share is: Being a faithful steward of God. Many people today want to find faithful individuals, and God is also seeking faithful people. This generation is severely lacking in faithfulness, especially in marriage, which is reflected in the rising divorce rate. There are many scandalous news stories; perhaps when someone encounters someone more handsome or wealthier, their faithfulness vanishes, causing their credibility to collapse.

For a poor person who is afraid of poverty, they may feel that the more money they have, the better, but at a certain point, the money becomes meaningless. Is having so much money really useful? A person's faithfulness is manifested in their value before God. Problems that money can solve are minor; what a person needs most in life is not money, but God's blessing, and God's promises are what can solve major problems. Be a faithful person before God. God's plan is for people to live beautifully, but why didn't the Israelites live that way? Because their faithfulness collapsed. The Israelites spending so many years in the wilderness was not part of God's plan.

Be a faithful person before God, and God's promises in the Bible will be fulfilled in you. If you are unfaithful, the promises will just pass you by. If faithfulness collapses, the outcome will not be good.

The English word for faith is Faith, and the English word for faithfulness is not Loyalty, but Faithfulness, indicating that faithfulness and faith are the same thing. If you have faith, you have faithfulness. If people forsake God, they will be cursed. The best promise is healing and deliverance. If a person loves the world, the love of God is not in them, and they will not receive the promises. It is impossible to love both the world and God. Forsaking God and being unfaithful to Him will bring curses. God's best promise to us is healing and deliverance.

Yesterday, I began praying for healing and deliverance for my mother, who is in her 80s. While I was praying for her, she saw people in red clothes on the spire, which made me think of the Tower of Babel. They are people who live according to the logic of this life. Today, we must know whether you are a faithful person. If the thoughts and intentions in a person's heart are unfaithful, they will not receive God's promises. Being faithful to God is very important. If people only care about this life, they will attract the spirit of the Tower of Babel. Why do many Christians not receive God's promises? It is a matter of faithfulness.

2. Scripture

And his master commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely. For the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Luke 16:8-13)

3. Prayer

Lord Jesus, let us serve You alone, and not mammon. May You speak to us and be with us. In the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen!

4. Background of the Scripture

This passage of scripture is a bit convoluted. Someone informed the master that someone was wasting his wealth. The master called the unrighteous steward to account and ended up commending him for his wisdom. Was this steward wise or foolish? Faithful or unfaithful? Was the master praising or belittling him? It's confusing when we read it.

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24)

Lord Jesus wanted to illustrate the problem of God and mammon. Are you serving mammon or serving God? Whether this steward is wise or unwise in the eyes of Lord Jesus depends on whether he is serving mammon or serving God.

I prayed to God, and the Holy Spirit revealed to me the meaning of this passage.

5. What is Life All About?

Some time ago, during the healing and deliverance of my mother, I gained a thorough understanding of what life is all about. When people get old, the spirit of death comes to take them away. Several times, I watched my mother's spirit being taken away, but she was still talking nonsense to me, saying, My name is 'Coming and Going', My name is 'Old Horse'. I knew very well that my mother indulged in the flesh and loved to eat, drink, and have fun. I prayed for her, and her spirit returned to her body. She woke up and told me that her spirit had been taken away from her body, but it came back during our prayers.

This is too strange. Her spirit left her body, but her body was still alive, but it was no longer her who was speaking. Sometimes a person is a person; sometimes a person is not a person. When people interact with each other, they often encounter strange things. There are many evil spirits dwelling inside people, so many times, sometimes it is a person, sometimes it is a demon.

It turns out that it is the spirit that makes a person live. Isn't it very important where a person's spirit goes? The flesh profits nothing, this is what the Bible tells us.

So, is this steward wise or unwise? If a person experiences momentary light affliction in this life to achieve an eternal weight of glory, they are wise. If they only cling to this life, they are foolish.

Wise people see problems from a spiritual perspective, while foolish people see problems from a worldly perspective.

March 18th last year was the seventh anniversary of my father's death, and my younger brother was involved in a car accident while driving. Yesterday, I asked the evil spirit if it was responsible, and it said, yes, with a flick of its finger, it happened.

6. Wisdom and Foolishness

Faithfulness, is it faithfulness to God or faithfulness to the world? When viewed from the perspective of eternity, the US dollar looks like ghost money. What people value is what God abhors, and what God values is what people abhor. What is your perspective on problems? The logic of Lamech and Cain is to live for the sake of living. The children of this world are wiser in this world than the children of light, but what is the use of that? Those are all things of this life. A few days ago, I saw a news story about a corrupt official who was arrested and turned white overnight. Wise people will know that it is the spirit that makes a person live and will see problems from the perspective of eternity. Foolish people only stand in this life. If people do not have a clear understanding of the future, they cannot have a clear understanding of the present. Seeing problems from eternity is wisdom.

Once, when I was thinking about a problem, it felt like my spirit was floating in mid-air, and I saw a person holding a box of US dollars. If I saw so much money in daily life, I would be amazed, but at that time, I felt like it was a box of ghost money. It turns out that people have completely different perspectives on problems in different places. What God abhors is people's worldly logic, clinging only to what they have in their hands.

Someone asked me, what exactly is the logic of Cain and Lamech? Taking this life as the foundation is the logic of Cain and Lamech. Whoever harms him, he will treat others extremely cruelly. But people will eventually die and suffer miserably in hell. If we change our perspective on problems, it will be completely different. Some time ago, my mother's eldest grandson came to visit and couldn't bear to see his grandmother's deliverance symptoms. He wanted to go back to work as soon as possible, thinking that his grandmother was being abused, but that wasn't the case. It was his mother, and it was also because he didn't see through.

It is unwise to serve both God and mammon. How to become wise? It is to see problems from eternity. Ma Yun had a wonderful dialogue segment. Someone asked him, What do you predict Alibaba will be like in the next 3 to 5 years? He said, If I don't know the goals for the next 30 to 50 years, I can't judge these 3 to 5 years. If people had invested in websites like Taobao 20 years ago, it would have been very promising. In the Jiangzhe area, online e-commerce is very convenient. If people can see 300 to 500 years into the future, they will be clearer than many people. If they can see into eternity, wouldn't that be even wiser?

And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (Luke 16:9)

This steward said, \I want to use money to make friends. He reduced the debts of the debtors, intending to work for them when he ceased to be a steward. He intends to make plans for the future, it sounded normal. Have you made plans for future? When we are lying in the coffin, we will realise many things have no values. If a person looks at life from the throne of God, and is determined to serve God, this is a smart decision. You must have a long-term view. Earning money is very easy, but obtaining Mingding Destiny is very difficult, because they do not believe and are unwilling to serve in eternity, unwilling to bring things into eternity. For a person, if one serves merely for this life, it is like a dung beetle rolling a ball of dung. We must consider all things as dung, for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord.

7. True Riches and the Unrighteous Mammon

The money of this life is the money of Mammon. The more the world prints, the more the value depreciates, causing housing prices to rise. Thus, money is illusory. Unrighteous wealth cannot enter eternity because it is fleeting. If you are unfaithful with unrighteous wealth, and take it lightly, then offering is easy.

In the spiritual realm, money is useless. True riches are spiritual wealth. Unfaithfulness forfeits God's promises. A church without God is dead, but a church without money does not die. Therefore, we must be faithful before God, relying solely on Him. Then, offering becomes easy; the difficulty lies in being faithful to God. Our perception of money is a false one; we must view it from the perspective of eternity.

Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? (Luke 16:11, NKJV)

Faithfulness in offering can be carried into eternity. What God gives us is real, already labeled. We are not indebted to God, but to ourselves. One must have a complete view of one's life; sooner or later, we will leave this world.

Can we be faithful to God? God desires to bestow wealth upon you, but few are those who receive the promise. Everyone must enter eternity to see this life as God sees it. God gives us much, but we are afraid and fail to receive what He has given. Therefore, we must have faith and faithfulness in God.

Life is short, and we know that there is judgment after we leave this world. If one obtains the promise in this life, upon returning to God, one will receive His glory. Even if earthly possessions are in your name, they belong to others and cannot be taken with you. One cannot serve two masters; be a faithful steward, using earthly things to gain eternal things. The sufferings of this world are all trials.

What are major and minor matters? The matters of this life are minor; the matters of eternity are major. If we faithfully serve God, He will allow us to enter eternity and enjoy immeasurable glory.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. (2 Corinthians 4:17, NKJV)

Those who serve Mammon come to a bad end. Be an upright official, an honest businessman, faithful to God, and responsible in your work. These earthly things will pass away, so begin to learn to serve God wholeheartedly, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Thank God for granting me faithful brothers and sisters.

8. Conclusion: Choose Faithfulness

Brothers and sisters, make a choice today: whom will you serve? Do not fear; the more you fear, the more pressure you will have, and you will become ill. Serving Mammon brings great pressure. Serving God brings no pressure. Start being a faithful steward, seeing the future in eternity, like Abraham and Isaac, who did not live only in this life.

Sometimes my mother would talk to herself, feeling wronged, and weep. She cannot deceive me. I would rebuke her, asking why she could not serve God well. In the past three months, she has been greatly released. But if one loves the world and money, one will develop dementia. Serving God brings lifelong clarity and prevents dementia. After I drove out the dementia from my mother, she became much clearer, her breathing normalized, and she walked swiftly. Six months ago, she would pant when walking.

If I bless you, it is to break every value system based on this life and money. Today, we are still alive and healthy, so serve God well, and no longer serve Mammon. If your family constantly talks about money, old age and dementia are not far away. When you serve Mammon, you will leave this world miserably, a precursor to entering eternal darkness. I deeply understand that one cannot serve God and Mammon, for that is not faithfulness.

If you choose to be a faithful disciple, you can live out God's glory throughout your life. Amen!
