【Sermon】Breaking Worldly Values 01: Breaking Free from the Curse of Toil

2019-04-07 12,746 Breaking Down Worldly Values Series

Introduction

I want to share with everyone a topic, which is Walking out of the Curse of Toil and Labor. There is nothing in this world more devastating than just living life. As people live, they fall into a dead loop: going to work, getting off work, toiling, laboring, day after day, year after year, and people complete a process of making fertilizer.

Eating requires earning money, eating and then excreting, excreting and then earning money again, earning money and then eating again, and then excreting again, constantly making fertilizer. This is a depiction of life. Living like this is living under a curse. Do you want to live like this?

I once ministered to a sister who invented the chicken leg theory. She said, Pastor, eating chicken legs is always better than gnawing on corn buns. With money, you can buy chicken legs; without money, you can only eat corn buns. At the time, she had a boyfriend and hoped that his mother would give her money to buy a house. I was puzzled; no matter what you two do, earning tens of thousands of dollars a month in Singapore is easy.

But this money is difficult for the boyfriend's parents, a family that only earns a few thousand dollars a month. However, she said money is very important. With money, you can eat chicken legs; without money, you have to eat corn buns. Some people also have their own chicken leg theory, maybe their pig leg theory or their elephant leg theory, but in essence, they all belong to the world's system.

What is her logic? Eating chicken legs is always better than gnawing on corn buns, but I tell you, if people live for these things, they will pay a heavy price for them. Some people say, How can you curse people? Actually, it's not my words that curse people; it's God's words. People live for what they die for, but if people live for God, they live forever. The curse comes from God. People do not live by chicken legs but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Some people always tell me, Look, so-and-so is living a good life. I tell you, brothers and sisters, the curse that people sow does not grow in a day. When people sow the curse, it seems like nothing happens on the first day, and nothing happens on the second day either, but what about later? When many people say this to me, I remain silent. If you can see far enough, you will see the curse come upon these people. If people do not carefully observe and follow God's words, they will be cursed.

So, how is it that people believe in the Lord and then think chicken legs are the most important thing? The problem is not believing in God's words. Genesis Chapter 5 says:

When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” (Genesis 5:28-29)

It is written very clearly that people's toil and labor are because of the Lord's curse. Moreover, Moses specifically wrote who begat whom, then lived for how many years, and then died... So people live day after day in this toil and labor, and that is the curse.

What are you living for today? Are you clear about it? A friend of mine posted something about The Book of Lord Shang, which teaches monarchs how to govern the people, the most famous of which is how to fool the people. The concept conveyed by The Book of Lord Shang more than two thousand years ago was how to make people ignorant. The author, Shang Yang, also died because of his own book, a very tragic death, ending in being torn apart by five horses.

People's eyes are fixed on the matter of living, without seeing the end of being harmed by schemes. Many people live in toil and labor, working very hard, and in the end, they live and then die. How can this bring comfort? It is a tragedy for people not to walk with God.

If anyone does not love the Lord, let that person be cursed! The Lord is coming! (1 Corinthians 16:22)

What are people thinking in their hearts? Living life, caring about their cars, houses, and money, all focused on earthly things. If you keep sowing curses, one day you will devour the fruit you have sown. God filters out those with faith, but many people do not believe, even many pastors who build churches do not believe in God's words, still caring about their little chicken legs. I am also very surprised.

Let's turn to the Bible together and see what Genesis Chapter 5 says:

Scripture

When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” (Genesis 5:28-29)

Prayer

Lord, open our spiritual eyes and let us walk out of this toil and labor! Lord, let us learn to love you, to act according to your words, and to believe in your words! Lord, manifest your will in us today, let us know to act according to your word! Let us love you with all our heart, all our strength, and all our mind, let us know that this is the path of flourishing and prosperity! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!

Noah Opened Up a Path of Comfort for Us

Continuing to read from Genesis Chapter 5, we do not see comfort, but we see the flood washing away all the people. When Lamech named Noah, he hoped that this son would comfort them for their toil and labor, but we did not see comfort. What is the problem? If people do not destroy their dreams of this life, it is difficult for you to receive comfort, and people will live in toil and labor, which is a curse.

In the 311 tsunami in Japan, many houses and factories were washed away, and people died instantly, which was very tragic. Many years ago, in the Southeast Asian tsunami, many people were bathing by the sea, enjoying the sun, sand, wine, and women, but in an instant, the tsunami came and washed them all away. We saw in the news that many dead people were捞起来, which was really scary. But even so, it did not destroy people's worldly dreams.

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure. (Ecclesiastes 7:4)

It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. (Ecclesiastes 7:2)

If your worldly hopes are not washed away, how can you be centered on God? Some people are really strange. They have to be sick to the point of dying before they can see through this world, and then they come to me for prayer. After they get better, what happens? They continue to return to their worldly dreams, quickly forgetting the days when they were miserably tormented by demons.

There was a sister who contracted a terminal illness some years ago. She prayed with us and was able to continue living soon, but she just couldn't see through the matter of living, still wanting to continue loving the world because she needed money, and she embarked on the cursed path of toil and labor again, resulting in a mess of a life.

Later, she came to me with her child. Seeing her appearance, I was really angry. How did she go back to the curse again? Since we had a life-threatening illness, how could we not rely on God to live? I was really filled with emotion. Later, thank God, I once again destroyed the worldly dreams within her, and this sister still walked out of it!

If you continue to pursue worldly dreams among us, it's okay to come to us for help after you are hurt by the world, but the fear is that there will be no opportunity by then. When I first looked into Genesis Chapter 5, I saw all the people's names in it, and I said, God, how can I study this? It seems to have nothing to do with me. I knelt down and prayed, and then God gave me a clear picture: people live and live, and then they die! Suddenly, I realized how deep the meaning of this sentence is.

Enoch was the only one taken away by God. Later, when it comes to Noah, Noah becomes our comfort. How does he comfort us? By destroying our worldly logic system. The worldly logic system is about creating your own future with your own hands. Some people believe in the Lord to have God serve them, but I believe in the Lord to live for God. Is it the same? We must clearly know that living on earth is vanity of vanities. What can be said to be meaningful?

In Noah's Generation, People Pursued Living

In Noah's generation, people pursued living. What does the Bible say? Everything that people thought in their hearts was evil. Actually, in people's eyes, it's not all evil, but it is evil in God's eyes. Those people were just pursuing living life. What's wrong with living life?

You will find that in that generation, there were many mighty and famous people. In this generation, there are also many mighty and famous people. We are dazzled by the news. The farces of the world are one after another. The people of that generation didn't do anything else but buy and sell, marry and be given in marriage, build and plant. Isn't this very normal? But these things are all seen as evil in God's eyes.

The things that people do are for one thing: to live well themselves. But have they lived well? You have to observe carefully. In any country, whether democratic or undemocratic, those mighty and famous people all live very painfully. The logic system of this world is a logic system that makes people live very hard. If you are willing to fall into this logic system, trusting in your own abilities, relying on your own hands to create a bright future, then I will give you a sentence: Good luck!

Especially among us, there are still many such people. Some time ago, one brother came to me and said, I have many worldly dreams inside. I said, Then destroy them. He said, But they are quickly rebuilt after being destroyed. Why is it so difficult to completely destroy them?

When you came to me, weren't you suffering from mental illness and depression, and weren't you about to die? How come you have dreams about this world again? People must build up the concept of eternal life. Living and then dying is meaningless. If living and then being taken to God, returning to God, that is eternal life. So people have no concept of eternal life and take this life as the only goal of living. If anyone affects their life, they will show their wolf teeth.

Many people worship these ancient mighty and famous people, and they themselves also want to be such people. In one party's eyes, they are great generals; in China's eyes, they are invaders. The Japanese have their heroes, the Chinese have their heroes, and the Americans have their heroes, but these are all mighty and famous people. If you think about it carefully, how do these people live? Very hard. Political struggles are very cruel, and there are no winners.

Suppose you are God, and you are standing on God's throne looking down. What are your thoughts when you see all living beings desperately rushing to their deaths? What are these people doing? Even if you are not God, you should understand after observing on earth for a long time.

Let's ask ourselves, is it better to live well by relying on God, or is it better to live well by relying on the mighty and famous, relying on our own arms? In fact, the glory and wealth of the world are just a facade; people are just deceived by the devil. People's death is a spiritual matter, and people's life is also a spiritual matter. When one is born and when one dies are also spiritual matters.

Noah and Enoch

In Genesis Chapter 5, the people of that generation all died, washed away by the flood, only Noah walked with God, and his family of eight entered the ark and were saved. After being saved, Noah came out of the ark, and God made a covenant with Noah. God's will for people is actually to be fruitful and multiply, but people insist on going their own way, not knowing that God is a treasure, nor knowing that people are very noble in God. Is this not a tragedy?

Why are people confused? Because people feel that living requires money. Some pastors tell me that building a church requires money, and money comes from offerings, so building a church requires people. Over the past few years, I have built a church and seen it very clearly. What I need is God.

I am not an incapable person. Many people think that I am quite厉害 and very capable, but I have never relied on my own abilities. Why? Because relying on myself is too painful, money is unreliable, and ability is unreliable. The only thing that is reliable is God.

There was a couple who were brothers and sisters who walked with me from the most desolate days of the church. When this couple came to my office, I showed them my Sunday bulletin. My administrative management habits have always been very good, from the earliest Sunday bulletins to today.

I showed them the desolate days of the church at that time. To be honest, at that time, I felt that I was not qualified to tell people to come and trust in God. It was really very desolate at that time. But in my heart, there was a thought: I must build God's church according to God's word, and God's will for me is to be fruitful and multiply! What was the result? Over the years, step by step, it has become more and more prosperous. Money is not a problem, people are not a problem, trusting in God is the key.

But the problem is that people do not believe. People like to trust in their own abilities. People are cursed when they rely on their own abilities. Some time ago, there was a young brother in his twenties who could not even do addition and subtraction within ten. Later, after I taught him, he found a job. But suddenly, he learned to rely on his own abilities, and he entered the curse again. I assigned him a task: how to dismantle the worldly value system.

In the days of Enoch and Noah, many people relied on themselves, but Enoch and Noah relied on God. Actually, it's not that you can't do things by relying on yourself; you can accomplish a lot of things by relying on yourself. In the descendants of Cain, there were the ancestors of those who forged all kinds of bronze and iron tools, the ancestors of those who played the harp and flute, and the ancestors of those who raised livestock. Many outstanding talents in all walks of life were descendants of Cain.

Isn't this very good? If you think it's very good, it's because you only saw one point, but if you look at it carefully, these people, to some extent, have the shadows of demons on them. For example, Cain lived in a mentally ill state, and so did Lamech.

Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words: I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.” (Genesis 4:23-24)

These people are very violent and lack a sense of security. If you raise a dog at home, when the dog does not submit to the主人, the dog is in a very frantic state of mind, and people are the same. When people have no God as their master and cannot rely on themselves, they are really in pain.

Although you become the ancestor of all walks of life, it doesn't explain anything. If you watch a boxing match, you will find that both sides are getting hit. Is that the life we want to live? In fact, God often gives people a dull heart, making them unable to understand the梗.

We have a young sister among us who has grown up quite well with us, following us in casting out demons anddeliverance, and doing many things. Having never seen the world, she suddenly met a post-90s entrepreneur and admired him very much. As a result, she was confused. Can she live a good life? She can't live a good life.

We must learn a lesson: observe those who love God and walk with God, and then observe those who love the world, and see how these people end up. You will definitely conclude that those who trust in God will never be put to shame!

Don't think that relying on yourself will be okay. There is God in this world. If you don't know that there are ghosts and gods in this world, then just rely on yourself. If you know that there are gods and ghosts in this world, you can't fight against ghosts with your own abilities. Noah opened up a path of comfort for us, which is the path of walking out of toil and labor. This path is revealed to us by the Lord Jesus.

Bread and Riches, Not the Purpose of Our Lives

If you are content to live for bread and riches, then by all means, devote yourself to these things. Those ancient, valiant, and famous individuals all lived for such pursuits. In the Bible, there is a dialogue between the Lord Jesus and the devil.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:1-4)

The devil will undoubtedly use your needs to tempt you, but if you are unaware that our needs can be met in the Word of God, you will fall prey to the devil's schemes. To make our needs the goal of our lives is to put things upside down.

If you live for bread, constantly thinking about these needs, you will surely live under a curse. These things are not the purpose of your life; rather, the Word of God is. Among us who believe in the Lord, have you ever asked yourself why you believe? If it is so that you can live well, then you are in trouble.

We must restore a God-centered life. Our needs are merely a by-product. Man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of God. God is the purpose and center of our lives.

The devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, but Jesus said to worship God alone. For Christians to set God aside in the face of wealth and the necessities of life, pursuing these needs and tempting God with fame and fortune, is extremely dangerous!

Jesus once fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, and they thought Jesus was amazing. Jesus then said, You must eat my flesh and drink my blood, and said some rather unreasonable things, leading them to think Jesus was crazy, and they left one by one.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. (John 6:54)

These people had just finished eating the bread and fish that Jesus had multiplied, and they left immediately. Because their goal was to be filled with bread, not to seek eternal life. So many people believe in the Lord to satisfy their present needs, but isn't this a mistake?

“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (John 6:67-68)

This statement is profound! How defiling it is if we rely on the Lord to satisfy our present needs! Therefore, you cannot overcome when faced with the devil's temptations. The Lord Jesus deliberately sifted out these individuals. Those who seek to be filled with bread cannot enter eternal life; their pursuit is merely to have their own needs satisfied.

Among us, if your needs are met, yet you have no hope of eternal life within you, but only hope to receive benefits in this life, then you can go and do whatever you want. We should all rise up and be good soldiers of Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter if you can read or not; what matters is what is in your heart, whether it is God-centered.

We also need to sift people, but I won't tell you that you need to eat my flesh and drink my blood. You can find fault with what I say; it is normal to find fault. My words are crude, and my appearance is plain. If you want to find fault, there are plenty. If you do not have eternal life within you, you cannot escape from the cycle of labour and toil, and you will live under the curse that God has given you.

Where is your foundation truly? If your foundation is on the rock of Jesus Christ, you will surely trust in the words of Jesus Christ. Our hope is not in this world at all; our security is not in the necessities of daily life at all. Today, we must offer our lives, no longer toiling and labouring for bread and worldly riches, nor for worldly things, living under the curse of God. We live by God to bring forth flourishing and prosperity!

We Must Completely Demolish the Worldly System of Logic

Man's faith can create the future because we live by every word that comes from the mouth of God. The devil not only tempts Jesus but also tempts each of our brothers and sisters.

Once, as I was praying for a couple who loved the world very much, a magnificent pagoda appeared before me. The pagoda is a very remarkable structure, with interconnected layers standing firm for thousands of years. The worldly system of logic is like a pagoda. I had never seen this before, so I asked God what it was, and God told me it was the worldly system of logic. I then told the couple that they had a very serious worldly system of logic within them. In fact, although God's words may not always seem reasonable, they bring us prosperity.

The worldly system of logic is a cursed system of logic. We live by faith, not by sight, so we must continually recognize the system of God's logic in our understanding. In the days ahead, I will repeatedly remind everyone to continually recognize the Word of God in their understanding.

We ministered to a sister whose shoulder was very painful. The sisters among us prayed for her, and as a result, she lay on the ground crying, unmoving. We were all alarmed. The pastor who was ministering to her was very bold and prayed fervently.

After an hour or so, the sister woke up. She said that her spirit had fallen into a very deep pit, with slippery walls, and she was clinging tightly to the walls. When she looked down, she saw worms all around. As the sister heard us praying, she felt a force supporting her, preventing her from falling.

We prayed fervently until her spirit returned to her body. Because the worldly system of logic within her was not demolished, she continued to live for money and lived a miserable life. God had great compassion on her, and recently she had been constantly examining herself, destroying the worldly system within her.

Wouldn't it be better if our brothers and sisters didn't experience these things? Wouldn't it be better if we lived well by the Word of God? If we demolish the worldly system of logic and build a godly system of logic, we will serve God with fervour!

Serve God Fervently

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:11-12)

We must know for certain that when we harbor a worldly system of logic, God will destroy such people.

So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. (Genesis 6:13)

If we are filled with worldly things, how can we serve God fervently? Some people see us serving God so fervently and think there is something wrong with us. Some love the world and yet want to serve God, which is the great prostitute spoken of in Revelation.

If you are not fervent within, it is because the worldly things you are filled with have not been demolished. If you are willing to listen to my words, to listen to God's words, then rekindle the fire of love for God within! If a person believes in the Lord but continues to love the world, they will be neither cold nor hot, and God will spit them out.

If you read the Word of God and seem to know and yet not know, then restore your first love for God! A person who loves God will surely love to read the Word of God and will surely see the needs of this generation. Let us come out of selfishness, for selfishness is a worldly system of logic. Those who walk with God are those who completely offer themselves.

Yesterday, a sister told me that her cousin was oppressed, and she served her fervently, and her cousin was transformed! Among us, many brothers and sisters have cousins who are living miserably, but they are indifferent; they don't pay much attention to it. This is because of the worldly system of selfish logic, and this is not walking with God.

Some people focus on the small trivialities of life, but we are concerned with the kingdom of God. In the kingdom of God, there is prosperity and blessing, and these problems will be easily solved.

If you are not fervent and do not strive earnestly, but only care about the things of life, how are you different from the people of Noah's generation? We must rekindle and strive earnestly. If you see the desolate state of your family, just as you saw the desolate state of the church many years ago, then rekindle your passion for God, knowing that God is the key to the transformation of our family!

Today, we must come out of the church-going way of believing and completely equip ourselves to be those who worship God in spirit and in truth. You can organize the Bible study materials one by one and share them with your family members. If a person loves the world, the love of God is not in them. If you love God, you will consider the world as rubbish, and you will receive prosperity and flourishing.

In Noah's time, Noah built the ark and saved his whole family. Are we also working hard to build the church according to God's Word? The number of those who are saved is small. In Noah's time, there were only eight. Is that not tragic? Today, there are also not many who walk with God in this generation. Do we see the desolation of our families, and do we see our destiny in the midst of desolation?

Among our brothers and sisters, many are only children. If your family members are cursed in the future, what will you use to resist it? My mother had Alzheimer's disease, and I cast out the demons. What about you? If you do not imitate me, do not imitate Noah, and do not imitate Jesus, what will you use to resist it? If you do not remember your Creator in your youth, what will you use to resist when you are old and declining?

Summary

Let our minds be constantly renewed and transformed, let us strive to run on the road of knowing God, constantly build God's glorious church, and constantly shape ourselves so that we have the image of Jesus Christ. Not only should we come out of labour and toil, but we should also bring our family members and those around us into blessing, releasing them from labour and toil. I call heaven and earth to witness to the brothers and sisters, to let everyone come out of the worldly system of logic and enter into the godly system of logic. Today, you are still very, very far from the image of God. Should you not strive even more earnestly?

May God bless everyone!
