Judges Chapter 10 – What People Want, and What Jehovah God Gives

After you have read Judges Chapter 10, then read this analysis. In Judges 10:6, it says, "And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him." Now, I want to pose a question: Are the Israelites foolish? Why worship these idols? Why not worship the true God, but instead worship useless idols? Many would say these people are truly foolish. But they are not foolish. If the Israelites could not obtain what they wanted from those idols, they would not worship them. It is precisely because the dark powers behind those idols are potent that they worship them. Why? They want to get what they want. This spiritual matter is very real. These Israelites are not foolish. They are very clear about what they are doing. Very clear about what they want. It's just that what they want is not what our Jehovah God wants to give us. If you want life, Jehovah God will certainly give it to you. But if you want worldly benefits, Jehovah God may not give them to you. Because He knows that giving them to you will corrupt your life. As I write this, a phone call comes in from a friend. His wife is very fond of feasting, massages, and enjoyment. Because her husband is wealthy, she indulges in all the pleasures she can enjoy. As a result, she recently contracted a sexually transmitted disease. Extremely painful. You see, things that corrupt a person's life, the life-giving Jehovah God will not give you. But if you still want them, what do you do? Worship idols. The dark powers behind idols, do they care about you? They are originally enticing you to want what you want, and through this, corrupting your life. Now that you have come, they will never miss the opportunity to corrupt you! The cleverness of the Israelites here is not the cleverness to gain life, but the cleverness to corrupt themselves!

Therefore, I want to tell you, if you want what you yourself want, you cannot trust in the true God Jehovah. But if you seek life according to God's will, you will certainly receive it from Jehovah God!

So, who started this trend? It was Jair the Gileadite. Also a judge of Israel. He truly had authority. He judged Israel for twenty-two years. He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts. They had thirty towns, which are called Havoth-jair. That was extreme wealth. Wealthy to the point that every household in Israel knew it! How did he have thirty sons? He must have had many wives. He also made the same mistake as Gideon. But he was far worse than Gideon. Gideon's family affairs are recorded in the Bible, but Jair, nothing is recorded. It only says that he had thirty sons and thirty towns. A very pathetic judge. As a result, all of Israel began to pursue material enjoyment! This immediately plunged them into the sin of idolatry. People cannot love the world, for once they love the world, they fall into the trap of the devil.

What happened in the end when the Israelites worshiped these Canaanite gods? In the end, they fell into an extremely desolate state. Not only did the Israelites enter into the corruption of life and desolation by worshiping these idols, but the Canaanites who worshiped these idols lived the same way! If you have some wealthy friends, when you get close to them, you will find that their lives lack the joy and peace of life. As long as people carefully observe the things around them, without having to experience those corruptions themselves, they will know that it is corruption.

The Israelites worshiped idols for eighteen years. As a result, the days of desolation came. Disaster does not come the day after you worship idols. The Israelites went through eighteen years. As a result, corruption came upon them. They began to cry out to God.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, you must know that we as Christians cannot seek what we ourselves want. But rather, we must seek what gives us life! When we want what we ourselves want, and love the things of the world, we will fall into the trap of the devil!
