【Bible Study】Deuteronomy 10 - Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind

2017-08-26 89,046 Deuteronomy Serving God Loving the Lord Your God with All Your Heart Soul and Strength The Essence of Blessedness Removing Defilement

Serving God is Blessing Others

When reading the Bible, it’s not uncommon to feel lost, unsure of what it all means. That's perfectly normal. This is why the preaching of God's Word is essential – to clarify and guide us on how to act. Why do I encourage everyone to serve? Because service is a blessing. Serving God is blessing others, and blessing others is serving God. To serve Him with all your heart and soul, and to keep His commandments and statutes as Moses commanded us, is for our own good. Why the strong push for brothers and sisters to serve? Because I want everyone to be blessed. Now that we believe in the Lord, we must bring blessings to others. This is God's intention.

How to Receive Blessings

The Ten Commandments are the bare minimum: Do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not covet your neighbor’s wife, house, or possessions, and honor your parents. Our Christian faith is one that honors parents. Violate any of these ten commandments, and you are immediately under a curse. What does commandment mean? It means something absolutely forbidden; doing it brings a curse, like touching a high-tension wire – instant death.

Why do some people struggle in life? Because they violate the commandments of the living God, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Avoiding a curse is not the same as being blessed; it’s merely avoiding a curse. If you want to thrive, you must: Fear the Lord your God, walk in His ways, love Him, serve Him with all your heart and soul, and keep His commandments and statutes which I command you today for your good (Deuteronomy 10:12-13).

If you draw a line to represent the Ten Commandments, below the line is being cursed, but being on the line doesn’t mean you're blessed. There's another line above it, and only above that line can you receive blessings. It’s like grades: failing is unacceptable, but merely passing doesn't make you a good student.

As Christians, we must strive to be blessed Christians. Excel in whatever you do. Be an outstanding student if you’re a student, an outstanding doctor if you’re a doctor, and an outstanding Christian if you’re a Christian. This is the pursuit of excellence. My goal isn't just to avoid a curse; I want to break through and enter into blessing. Being healed of sickness is nothing compared to entering into blessing, living like a burning fire, full of power – how wonderful is that!

Grasping the Essence of Blessing

Some people view serving God as a chore. I met a pastor who said to me, I'm finally rid of that chore; my friend is too! I felt uncomfortable. Is serving God a chore? Actually, no job excites me as much as being a pastor, provided you do it right. I've done this pastor thing right, so I find it particularly good. Whether you're a top student or a good worker, doing it right means living well; doing it wrong means hardship. Serve God, love God, serve Him with all your heart, soul, and strength, and you will surely be blessed.

But today, I want to tell you that if you want to live well, break through that line. Above that line are all the blessed, the excellent – excellent pastors, excellent district leaders, excellent group leaders. If you pursue excellence, God will strengthen you. No matter your age, pursue excellence.

Enjoy what you do because you're doing it right. Why does a person enjoy working? Because they understand the essence of work. Why does a person enjoy studying? Because they grasp the essence of learning. Why does a person live well? Because they grasp the essence of blessing.

There was a mentally ill patient who was delivered from her illness among us, and I encouraged her to serve others. But she said, Pastor, I'm not like you. I can't serve because serving interferes with my sleep and work, and I won’t live well. That logic eventually led her to lose her job. Without blessing, even hard work won’t get you far. The essence of blessing is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. Those who love God don't find serving tiring. New drivers never feel tired. Those who love driving don't find driving tiring; those who love learning don't find learning tiring; those who love working don't find working tiring. Do everything with love! Love God, and serve Him with all your heart, soul, and strength – you won't be tired. A girl in love never finds dating tiring. If you lose your love for God, you will feel tired. Without love, you cannot continue on the path of service. If you rid yourself of the chore, you also rid yourself of a blessed life. Love what you do and do what you love – love learning, love working, love serving God; love everything. If a person has love, their life will be a joy. Never do something without return; love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind, serve Him, and trust Him.

The Blessed Prosper in All Things

Serving God is a choice with immensely rewarding returns. We must all become a blessing to all nations and peoples on earth. Those who do not prosper in everything find it difficult to succeed. This is because they are not blessed, but live under a curse. Blessing and curse are the main axes of life. Why does serving God bring blessings? Moses said: Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it!

We must all establish a beautiful, loving relationship with God, for everything comes from God. God wants us to be blessed. God is most pleased when we are healthy, blessed, and prosperous, because God loves us! Our God is a God who wants us to be blessed. The LORD delights in our love for Him, as did our forefathers. Emulate Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in loving God. God will surely delight in us!

Rid Your Heart of Impurities and Be a Person Pleasing to God

Be a pragmatic and inquisitive person. The LORD our God is the God of gods, the Lord of lords, the mighty and awesome God. It is God who sustains us, not we who need to sustain God. Trust in God wholeheartedly, and you will have assurance throughout your life. In the days of Moses in the Old Testament, the Israelites in the wilderness experienced God's provision. Believing in God and loving God will surely lead to experiencing abundant grace. God is a God who loves us, because we have the heart of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob within us. We must renounce the evil habit of idolatry and read God's word more. Meeting the requirements will bring blessings, fearing God and turning away from evil. Throughout your life, you will surely live out beauty and brilliance. Glory to God!
