The Abundant Life of David
Summary: 1 Chronicles 29:26-28. David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. He ruled over Israel forty years; seven years he ruled in Hebron, and thirty-three in Jerusalem. He died at a good old age, full of days, wealth and honor. Then his son Solomon succeeded him as king. This message, through this passage, examines how David lived a life of abundance and honor. David was a man after God’s own heart, and he lived a life of abundance and honor. We need to clarify what our faith is, understand what kind of God we have, and what kind of Gospel we have. I believe that the Gospel we preach today is a Gospel of abundance and honor!
1 Review of Last Sunday's Topic: Balaam, the Greedy Prophet
Let's review last week's content. It is not just a review, but some new summaries and content. Last week we mentioned the prophet Balaam, who was a true prophet, not a false one. Do not have the mistaken notion that pastors and prophets are saints. There are no saints in this world, only sinners. No matter who you are, be careful. As long as we are human, we are sinners, and we all have human sinfulness within us. We need to constantly fight and constantly put to death the evil deeds of the body. Put it to death thoroughly. If we are not careful, the lusts of the flesh will come alive. Therefore, as Christians, we fight against the devil on one hand and against the flesh on the other. The devil cannot do anything to a person whose flesh is dead. In Rick Joyner's vision, he saw himself climbing a mountain. When he passed the place called Galatians 2:20, the devil could no longer attack us, could not reach us. At the lowest level, the attacks are very fierce. As long as you desperately cross this place, the devil's arrows will not hit you. What is this place? Galatians 2:20 says, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
We can see that if a person completely surrenders and allows the Lord Jesus to be the Lord and King in our lives, removing the lusts of the flesh, any attack by the devil is ineffective. But even so, the Apostle Paul still ran the heavenly race with fear and trembling, because he knew that if we are not careful, the lusts of our flesh may come alive again, because we live in this world, facing all kinds of temptations.
Wisdom to Guard Against Greed
Although Balaam was a prophet, he had always lived well, but a string of gold cost him his life. Today, let us not criticize this or that, as if we are saints. We must be careful. Brothers and sisters, we must all be careful! The Bible is a book that reveals spiritual truth. The Bible tells us these spiritual truths, so we must read the Bible carefully. When we read it, we know that greed is not the way to live in honor, beauty, and abundance, but a dead end. We must guard against greed in any case. 1 Timothy 6:9-10: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” This is well said! Today, when we look at those who are greedy, how many of them live well? They are all people who have pierced themselves with grief! You must memorize these words. Those who do not read the Bible, do not come to meetings to study, and do not spend time in prayer either do not know that there are such words, or they know it but cannot resist the greed within. The final result is ruin. They originally wanted to live better and longer, but as a result, they died sooner. There are countless examples of this. Human history is a history of recording all aspects of life! Some live like noble princes, and some live like slaves. Alas, in this world, too few people know the way to live in abundance and honor! Brothers and sisters, arise and quickly spread this Gospel of abundance and honor to your families! Even if they do not receive all the benefits, it is worth it if they know the harm of greed and can avoid falling into the trap of greed once in their lives! People do not live well because they do not know how to live well. They think they know, but they do not know. This is the most pitiful kind. They do not know that they do not know. How pitiful, you say.
Balaam could have lived longer and with more honor. But Balaam saw a little money, just a small string of gold, and could not resist it, and his greed started. As a result, in less than a year, he died under the swords of the Israelites. Balaam had a whole set of theological theories. So people are deceived and still think they are in the truth. This theory leads to two reactions, everyone write them down. The first is to constantly make excuses for greed, constantly package their greed, so that many Christians are trapped in greed because of the wrong teachings of Christian leaders. They go down Balaam's road for money, are dragged by sin, and die in it! The second is to start thinking that money is evil, that they cannot be rich, that if they have money, they cannot enter the kingdom of heaven, thinking that wealth itself is the problem, and they start not believing that the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we preach is a Gospel of wealth. They would rather live in poverty, thinking that people are more spiritual when they are poor. As a result, they often stimulate the greed within. Neither of these is the Gospel, and everyone must be careful! Especially the second kind.
In fact, brothers and sisters, people become more greedy when they are poor. Poverty is not the Gospel, disease is not the Gospel, decline is not the Gospel, hard work is not the Gospel, confusion is not the Gospel. The Gospel we preach is great news, that our Lord Jesus has borne all our curses! He has borne the curse of our poverty, our diseases, pain, and poverty! I think that those who believe in the Lord should be people who prosper in everything! Once, I was preaching the Gospel to someone who was not living well, and she said that she was doing well now! She did not know how abundant and glorious we receive in Jesus Christ!
King David's Path to Abundance and Honor
So today, to illustrate that the Gospel we preach is a Gospel of wealth, I want to share about a person: King David. David was not poor. He was a man after God's own heart, and as a result, God made David rich and honorable throughout his life! Do you know how much gold and silver David saw? It was incredible. One of our brothers bought his girlfriend a pair of earrings for RMB 2,000, a little bit of gold and a little bit of gems, and many people were very envious. Do you know how much gold and silver David saw? Nearly 200 tons of gold and 650 tons of silver! Other gems, copper and iron, countless! But David was not controlled by greed! In the end, King David lived out abundance and honor. We must deal with the greed within us, but we must also deal with the wrong belief – do not think that we who believe in Jesus must live a poor life! It is not a poor life, it is an extremely rich and extremely honorable life!
Who wants to live a poor life? No one! Who wants to live a painful life? No one! Who wants to live a life full of disasters and diseases? No one! But I yearn to live in abundance and honor! This is not a path of working hard and desperately, but a method of relying on the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ and the great power of His resurrection to overcome the devil and the enemy and gain victory in the spiritual world!
Today, we will share how to live a life of abundance and honor!
2 Today's Topic: Enjoying Abundance and Honor Throughout Life!
There are many ways to live a life. Some live like princes, some live like slaves, and some do not even live like human beings! Have you not heard the saying? Can you be more human? Many parents scold their children like this. Just yesterday, there was a sudden disaster. A group of people with knives appeared at the Kunming Railway Station and killed 29 people. How tragic! People just died like this! What kind of world is this!
I have a desire that God will keep the thoughts and intentions of our hearts so that we can become children after God's own heart, like David, so that we can live a life of abundance and honor in this world. I am not saying this nonsense. It is written in the Bible. Since it is written in the Bible and it is good words, why should I not want it? I do not specifically choose the bad things in the Bible to yearn for. I specifically choose the good things to yearn for. Who yearns to be like Judas, who hanged himself after betraying Jesus? No one wants that. No one yearns to be like Ahithophel, Absalom's counselor, who helped Absalom rebel, but when people did not listen to his plan, he went home and hanged himself.
I yearn to live in abundance and honor. I yearn to live in the honor of the prince of the eternal God. In fact, that is not greed! That is God's will! Later, when I examined the characters in the Bible who pleased God, they all lived in abundance and honor! I dare to boldly say that living in abundance and honor is God's will for us!
Tell the person next to you: I yearn to live in the abundance and honor of the prince of the eternal God! Let us read the Bible verses.
3 Today's Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:26-28
1Ch 29:26 David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 1Ch 29:27 He ruled over Israel forty years; seven years he ruled in Hebron, and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 1Ch 29:28 He died at a good old age, full of days, wealth and honor. Then his son Solomon succeeded him as king.
4 Prayer – God's Will Is for Us to Enjoy Abundance and Honor!
….. (Impromptu prayer) …
Pray in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen!
5 David's Life Was a Life of Enjoying Abundance and Honor
This passage makes a summary of David, summarizing that what David lived out in his life was abundance and honor. That was truly abundance and honor.
David's Faith and God's Grace
David's life was full of God's grace! When he was a shepherd, he was a good shepherd, able to snatch the sheep from the mouths of lions, bears, tigers, and wolves! Later, he went out to fight and killed the giant Goliath. David's name spread throughout the world. Even in the thirteen years of being chased, David's heart of relying on God became stronger. At that time, he could not do it without relying on God! As a result, even in the thirteen years of escape, he lived in abundance and honor! Later, when he became king, no country around him did not fear David. The Bible says that David reigned for forty years, and he died at a good old age, full of days, wealth and honor! David enjoyed abundance and honor throughout his life. Every time I read about these people who are after God's own heart, who live in abundance and honor throughout their lives, I tell myself that no matter what, I must hold on to my God throughout my life, who saved me from a poor and desolate situation. I believe that as long as I rely on my God, when I leave this world, someone will say: Samuel, how many years of work, how many years of being a pastor, enjoyed abundance and honor! Such a conclusion is so good! I do not need greed, I do not need to use my own tricks, I sleep peacefully every day, because I rely on my God!
I think that the author is narrating that God's will for those who are after His own heart is to have such a purpose. Later, I went to examine the Bible and found that those who were after God's own heart all lived in abundance and honor. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph all lived in abundance and honor. Therefore, we have every reason to believe that our God's will for us is to live in abundance and honor. I am even more convinced that as long as I yearn for it, I believe that when I come before my Lord Jesus, I will surely receive His praise and reward!
Someone once challenged me, Pastor Liu, you are wrong. I asked, How am I wrong? Then he listed a lot of people who could not live out the abundance and honor described in the Bible! I said, you asked a good question! This is a good question. As a result, he thought I would argue with him, but I used Tai Chi to easily resolve this argument. Therefore, everyone should often say this, You said it well! Then he had nothing to say. What is the problem? Is the Bible wrong, or are we wrong? The people he mentioned are also Christians, so why can't they see abundance and honor?
Let us start with spiritual principles - believe that you have received it, and you will receive it! Without faith, it is impossible to please God!
6 Spiritual Principles - Believe That You Have Received It, and You Will Receive It
Believing in Jesus is not just saying you believe, and then you believe. What you believe is very important! Some people have been believing in the Lord for more than ten years, and when you ask, What do you believe? they get stuck. Yes, what do I believe? They do not know who Jesus is, nor do they know what they believe. Believing in the Lord must be done according to spiritual principles. You must believe with roots and foundations. Those of us who study computer technology need to go to a three-year polytechnic and a four-year university, and still not necessarily learn well. Then the principles of the spiritual world require us to learn even more carefully. Therefore, the God in the Bible often admonishes us to meditate on His words day and night! Some people are just stupid and do not learn, so they do not do their jobs well, they do not have good relationships, they do not manage their families well, and their children are a mess, and they make a mess of everything, and they still think they are doing well. I say, Come, come to church, and they act like they are giving me face. In fact, after believing in the Lord, we seem to have entered a wonderful and vast spiritual world. Even today, I am still learning! There are new discoveries and new surprises every day!
Faith and God's Abundant Promises
Whoever violates the rules set by God will not receive them. Many Christians do not receive the many beautiful promises in the Bible. For example, many Christians get sick and do not believe that God can heal them directly. They pray to ask God to give them a good doctor and heal them through the doctor. What they get is what they believe in. Later, I found that Jesus said this in the Bible: Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” This is so absolute, but it is indeed the truth. Why do I want to tell everyone this? Because I want to tell you that if you do not believe, you will not receive it. So many promises in the Bible are not received because people do not believe. Does God not have the power? No. The arm of Jehovah God has never been shortened. Since God created the heavens and the earth, God’s power is the same today as it was then! However, because people do not believe, they lose many good things!
A few days ago, I met some Christians, but in my conversations with them, I found that their experience in the Lord Jesus was really lacking! They had not received so many promises. I encouraged them. I said, Do not be lacking anymore. Sometimes, I would accidentally say something wrong and add, The pastor is also lacking to his members. Actually, I was referring to myself. Why? Because the abundance in the Lord Jesus Christ is far beyond what we can imagine. But because people do not believe, because pastors cannot impart faith to their brothers and sisters, and they go their own way, they end up lacking to themselves and also lacking to their members. Everyone must often remind me so that I can boldly preach God's promises clearly and lead everyone to experience all the abundance in the Lord Jesus Christ together!
Without faith, you will not receive it. This is spiritual truth. If you do not believe that in the Lord Jesus, the Lord Jesus will accomplish a life of abundance and honor for you, you will not receive this promise. Understand? You must believe it! Believe that you have received it, and you will receive it. But do not look for it outside of the Lord Jesus. Balaam, who was mentioned last Sunday, although he was a prophet, did not know that there was extreme and abundant glory in the kingdom of God, but he was obsessed and went to Balak, the king of Moab, to seek wealth and honor. What he received was death. We must seek, seek within the Lord Jesus. Outside of the Lord Jesus, there is nothing. Only the ruin brought by the devil.
Healing and Blessings Through Faith
God has gifted me with something special. And I hope He gives this gift to everyone. That is faith. Take for example, last Wednesday, Sister JX's father had a fever for over a week, going in and out of the hospital several times, but still did not get better. At noon, I asked JX if he wanted us to pray for him? JX said he didn't mind. So I didn't mind either. I told JX to let him suffer a bit more. In the evening, the fever was still severe. Asked him again, and he began to yearn for healing. So I prayed for him. He got better! The next day, the spirit of death came again. JX and his family knew the spiritual truth that if you believe you will receive, so they prayed for her father, and he got better! Praise the Lord. As a result, in the late hours of Thursday, Brother HF called me, saying that our Brother DJ's legs were shaking while praying. I prayed over the phone, and he was healed! On Saturday, at 10 am, Brother CW called, saying he hadn't slept all night and had stomach pains. Normally, one would go to the hospital, but thank the Lord, I prayed for him, and his stomach ailment was healed! He vomited a lot of dirty yellow and green stuff. I am not boasting about myself. I am saying, thank God, He has given me such faith that I believe, and I receive! Because this is the promise of the Lord Jesus! Without faith, how can one receive! The promises in the Bible are all there, and anyone can understand them. But some believe, and some do not. Some specifically seek out the bad things to believe in. But I want to tell everyone, let us all believe in all the wonderful promises in the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
What a person believes is what they receive. If you do not believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is a rich and glorious gospel, you will not receive richness and glory. If a person thinks that the gospel of Jesus Christ they believe in is a gospel of suffering, they will receive a gospel of suffering. We must reflect on ourselves, what gospel we believe in, what God we believe in, and what kind of God our God is! Brothers and sisters, write down the following sentences: The key is not what we ourselves have experienced, but what the Bible says. Not just what the Bible says in a certain place, but what the entire Bible says. If we take our own experiences as the standard, our faith will not enable us to experience the richness and glory of the God spoken of in the Bible! We cannot take things out of context. Why do I like to lead everyone to study Genesis, and why do newcomers who study Genesis with me quickly experience God's grace? It is because through Genesis, we begin to believe that God is a God who cares for us, a God who provides for our needs, a God who blesses us, and a God who wants us to live out richness and glory. Genesis is an extraordinary book. It is the foundation of faith!
7 The gospel we preach is a gospel of richness and glory!
So what is the gospel we preach? The gospel we preach is good news, not bad news. Blessed are those who bring good news! If you share the gospel with someone and say, come, suffer with me, I don't think many people will believe you. Who believes that! There are already enough problems, the burden is already heavy enough, why add another burden? But our faith in Jesus Christ is a gospel of living out richness and glory! There are many doctrines in the world, but they are doctrines that cause suffering. But the faith in Jesus Christ is a faith where God bears our sorrows and carries our pains! It is a blessing, not a curse! It is a glorious gospel, a powerful gospel, a honorable gospel.
Brothers and sisters, new friends, the world we live in is full of wonders. There are all kinds of problems. What we see is disaster running rampant everywhere. We don't know who it will fall on. We don't know where the answer is. What exactly is the problem. I want to tell you that no matter how complicated the problem is, the root cause is that people are cursed because of sin. The devil can legally create trouble. This is from Adam and Eve.
The Redemption of Jesus Christ and the Abundant Gospel
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
If the problem of the curse is not solved, all the efforts of a person's life are in vain! So you need to know why our Lord Jesus died on the cross. It was to bear our curse. When the curse of man is removed, they do not have to work desperately to make a living like those who live under the curse.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
The redemption of Jesus Christ has been accomplished, the curse has been removed, Jesus has been resurrected, and the devil has been defeated! You must come and receive this grace! If you do not accept it, you will not receive it!
2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. Brothers and sisters, new friends, what could be better than this? Come out of the curse. This is a great grace! These days, we have been praying with the verses from Ephesians many times. I think Ephesians is really well written. Let's read it together. I think this word has more flavor the more we think about it. At first, we didn't know what we were reading, but now everyone should know.
Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Eph 1:2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: - Did you hear that? Those are spiritual blessings in heavenly places! Those are blessings of grace and peace!
Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, - Did you hear that? That is the status of children of the eternal God. Not the son of an earthly king who will die. It is a child of the eternal God. You must go out, carrying the honor of the children of the eternal God!
The Key to David's Enjoyment of Abundance and Honor
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Eph 1:8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Eph 1:15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. - This is the good news of victory! We already have the power of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus in us! We can overcome those devils who create trouble and create disasters! Amen! You say what a gospel this is!
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
8 The Key to David's Enjoyment of Abundance and Honor
Imitate David, Live Out Abundance and Honor
1Ch 29:11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 1Ch 29:12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. - Did you see that? It all comes from God!
1Ch 29:13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. - That is David's tabernacle of worship! Don't think that coming to church to worship God is a disadvantage!
1Ch 29:14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. - We are nothing.
1Ch 29:15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. - We have no hope on earth. Our hope is in heaven. This is what Ephesians says, that what we are to receive are all kinds of spiritual blessings in heavenly places! Brothers and sisters, we must grasp the spiritual blessings on earth!
1Ch 29:16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own. 1Ch 29:17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee. 1Ch 29:18 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee: 1Ch 29:19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision. - Build a temple for the Lord! Today, we must also build a temple for God.
These words are the key to us living out abundance and honor! We must bring the riches of God into our midst. This is the foundation of the gospel!
9 Conclusion – Imitate David, Live Out Abundance and Honor!
We must imitate David. Then we can live out abundance and honor. This is what I want to tell everyone today. I like to imitate David. I also, like David, call upon God. O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee. David could live out abundance and honor, and today we can imitate David and also live out abundance and honor! Because our gospel is a gospel of abundance and honor! Amen!
