Pastor: I am quite fascinated by the Book of Deuteronomy. Why? Because I find it exceptionally well-written.
If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. (Deuteronomy 28:1)
These are the words of God. He will set you high above all nations on earth. And then He says:
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. (Deuteronomy 28:3-6; 8)
I find this particularly well-said. We must know that believing in the Lord is a path to blessing. If believing in the Lord does not lead to blessing, then surely one is believing in the wrong way. When some non-Christians talk to me, they might say, Will manna fall from the sky? Can believing in the Lord fill your stomach? Well, I sit there and think, will manna fall from the sky? No. But in everything you put your hand to, the blessing the Lord ordains will come upon you. That is to say, what you do will be blessed. The Christian faith, the God in whom we believe, is a very practical faith. Everyone must begin to understand one thing: if these things are not happening in our lives, there is only one possibility – we have not carefully followed His words. If a student carefully follows His words, his studies should be quite good.
Learning is Intimately Connected with Faith
Host: Actually, I also hope to facilitate a process of questions, because often you have many questions in your hearts. But sometimes you have a question in your heart, and if you don't ask it then, the question disappears—well, not disappears, the question is still there, but your desire to ask it vanishes. What is the main thing to do during this time? It is to allow everyone to recall those questions they have always wanted to ask but haven't; or those questions they have always wanted to know the answers to, through the work of the Holy Spirit, through their own thinking during the process of listening, and to ask them. Then the Holy Spirit will give you an answer, and the pastor will certainly give you an answer.
Pastor: I may not necessarily have the answers, but I think if we explore together, there should be answers. I may not have all the answers. If I can't answer, I will probably remember it for the next week, month, or year, and then I will carefully investigate and research, perhaps giving you a less than satisfactory answer.
Host: There is another microphone in whose hand? Someone who wants to ask a question can hand it over, or stand here. Distant brothers and sisters, I especially hope that you can actively ask questions. We will go through each question, at least giving some response. The issue we are discussing today is actually very relevant to everyone. I call this Learning is Intimately Connected with Faith. Let me do a survey first: raise your hand if you think your academic performance is very good; raise your hand if you think your academic performance is very bad; what is the state of those who have not raised their hands? Average.
Distant brothers and sisters, I also want to do a survey. If you think your academic performance is very good, give a like. Actually, it is quite difficult to tell everyone that my grades are very good. If you really give a like, your academic performance should be really good.
What is the first question we will explore today? Let me give you a hint, Isaiah. See if you encounter this situation when you are studying.
They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over, so they cannot see, and their minds closed, so they cannot understand. (Isaiah 44:18) Have you ever been in this state during class? That is, no matter what the teacher says, you are thinking, What are you talking about? Pass the microphone to KX, to describe to us what this state is like – the teacher is lecturing, and I am with my eyes closed and my mind shut; unable to see, unable to understand.
KX: It's like being in class, listening to the teacher, but not understanding. Even after asking the teacher many times, I still don't understand. It feels like they are speaking gibberish.
Pastor: I believe this feeling of listening to gibberish is quite common, isn't it?
Host: KR, honestly speaking, have you ever been in a state of listening to gibberish before? Tell everyone about it. You can share your state of mind. Many times, I may not be able to understand it, and the pastor also needs to understand this state of mind. Can you describe it? Just talk about how you felt at the time: I can't understand what I see, and I can't understand what I hear. Is it because I can't keep up?
Falling Behind
KR: Actually, that course was a very new course. I didn't review it at home beforehand, and it was completely new. The teacher hadn't talked about it before, and the teacher's pace was also very fast. I felt like I couldn't keep up.
Host: Yes, this is the first topic I want to discuss – falling behind. This is a confusion that many people have had. For example, TX, when you were learning code, did you have this feeling? Like thinking, What are they talking about? Once a point is broken, you can't keep up anymore.
Pastor: In today's society, I personally feel that many people rush through their lectures. They just zoom past, and you zoom past with them, straight into confusion. The teacher lectures to complete the task; as for whether the students understand or not, that is not the teacher's concern. This is a very strange state. I am not criticizing the education system, but I want to bring out the issue that this situation is actually a very ineffective education system.
I think today I will bring out the passage that Brother WC mentioned earlier. Knowing nothing and understanding nothing is a fatal problem of being in a state of falling behind. The learning we are talking about is lifelong learning. We are not talking about a lifetime of listening to lectures, but a lifetime of learning. This is called Lifelong learning. So, thinking about this matter is really quite important.
What is Your Goal in Learning?
Host: In this, I want to discuss the first question with everyone, which is that before we do any learning, I hope everyone will first lay out this matter – what is your goal in learning? Let's set this goal first. For example, Sister TY, she works in topography at the airport. There are exams in topography, but as long as you pass, there are no penalties; no matter how well you do, there are no rewards. But Sister TY has always set the goal of getting full marks for herself. This is the first state.
What is the second state? That is, even though I am in British education, I want to get higher scores. I may have seen JN studying English for a while, reading an English novel. Actually, the teacher recommended that she watch novel dramas to improve her English literacy. This is also something I cannot understand, because British education is just for getting scores. What is your goal in learning? So, this is the first question we need to discuss. Are you really clear about what your goal in learning is? Let me ask WS first, what is your goal in learning?
WS: Just to get into Poly!
Host: To get into Poly, right? So, your goal is scores, right?
WS: Yes.
Host: Very simple, right? Then KR, what is your goal?
KR: The Primary School Leaving Examination.
Host: The scores in the Primary School Leaving Examination. Regarding this point, Pastor, do you have anything to say, for example, some people clearly don't need to get high scores, but they try their best to get high scores. Some people are in this state.
Pastor: Let me give you an analogy. We have all washed dishes. Washing a dish a hundred times is not much different from washing it twice. It is still a dish, as long as it is clean enough. But some people with obsessive-compulsive disorder keep washing it. They wash a dish for an hour, wash a hand for an hour. In fact, the effect achieved is not much different from five minutes or two minutes.
When I talk about such things, you may find it ridiculous, but many people are like this when they study. In the whole process of learning, they don't know what they are doing. In fact, it is just that they have no goal. I think this thing of not knowing what you are doing is itself a very serious problem.
Let me digress a bit, because the host mentioned goals. I will bring this back. As long as you can achieve this goal, no matter what method you use, it is acceptable, right? As long as you wash the dishes clean, you can use any method, the faster the better.
When we talk about learning, I may advocate a habit that sounds a bit uncomfortable to everyone. I often sleep in class, either because I don't understand, or because after listening, I feel that I know all the things he is talking about. They find it strange why I do so well on exams, because I learn, not listen. Even if I go to listen, I listen with my questions. My goal is very clear. If I don't understand, then what am I doing? I use this time to rest, which is better, because I think someone is in front, sleeping very soundly. So sometimes when I preach, when I see someone about to sleep, I encourage them to sleep well.
But where is the problem? We need to find the root cause of the problem. For example, some people are under spiritual bondage, their minds are not open. This is a bondage that believers must break. Their minds are not open, it's not that they don't want to study well, but they don't know what they are reading when they read on their own; they don't know what they are hearing when they listen. This person will struggle for a long time. This state is actually a state of being unenlightened. Where does the state of being unenlightened arise? They will understand less and less, and become more and more anxious; the more anxious they become, the more they want to listen, the more they listen, the less they understand, and then they operate in a very negative mindset.
Host: Actually, many parents are trapped in a very uncomfortable state. For example, if KR is very unenlightened in learning, you can't scold her. If you scold her, she will be in a more difficult state.
Pastor: I think that for some time, KR was listening to science courses, and she told me that she didn't understand anything at all. Actually, I think the science stuff, how much can elementary school science have? There's actually not much, so why doesn't a child understand anything at all? We need to solve this problem. I thank the Lord that the matter of KR's mind not being open has been broken. When she came to church, her grades were among the last few in the class. From this state, she has entered the middle or above. The remaining situation that she needs to adjust is this situation of not understanding. If we educate according to my own summary, education is when a child is hitting a wall, when he can't jump over it, you pull him up.
In fact, the teacher needs to complete this matter, and the student needs to learn. When learning encounters difficulties, there is a hand that can pull him up, so he will not be discouraged, and he will not feel defeated. If you let him keep hitting the wall, hitting the wall, after hitting it more than three times, he will stop hitting it, and he will say: I can't do it, I definitely can't do it, that's just how I am. Then he will have this concept.
When I was in Taiwan, I would meet with KR every week, two to three times, for half an hour each time, sometimes only for twenty minutes. Actually, the time was very short, only four or five hours in a month, but her academic performance suddenly jumped from 180 points to 230 points, which was a critical leap. So what kind of role did these few hours of mine play? I pulled her hand up. Why do I want to talk about this? Actually, there are still many students among us. I want to make our goal as a pastor, as a cell group leader, as a pastoral district leader, you must know what you are doing.
I told her that for half an hour, I would let her ask me questions. Remember, a person who can ask questions has already solved half the problem. The most critical thing is not to think. As long as you think, you will ask questions and you will basically be close to finding the answer. By the later times, KR didn't really need me anymore because she had her own answers. I asked her again if she had any questions? She had no questions, so I asked her a question, and she answered quite well. I felt that when a person enters this state, KR, can you describe the feeling of learning as a very good feeling, isn't it?
KR: Yes.
Host: What was your state of learning before? What is your state of learning now? Before and after the pastor's guidance, give the pastor some encouragement.
Asking Questions is Key to Learning
Sister KR: My score in the Science course used to be the lowest in the class, so I was particularly disgusted with this course and didn't want to learn it every time I went to class. After a month of the pastor's guidance, my Science course has made great progress, and the teacher was also very surprised. How did my Science improve so much?
Pastor: Then can you summarize the changes in method? For example, can you ask questions?
Sister KR: I would mark out the content I didn't understand when reading textbooks or doing problems, and then ask the pastor.
Pastor: So asking questions is the key to learning.
Host: My own experience is that I think textbooks can be divided into several categories: content, examples, exercises. If you memorize knowledge by rote, you can first read the content roughly, but you should pay attention to the examples. Examples are a very important part. After doing the examples, you can reach a medium-to-high level. So what is the pastor's view on knowledge, examples and exercises?
Pastor: Some time ago, Sister WS encountered difficult problems in mathematics, which were about the knowledge of set logic, etc. After so long, I was also confused. I led her to turn to the concepts in the textbook first. There were 21 concepts in total. I led her to clarify half of the concepts, and the rest was completed by Sister WS herself. We finished the whole chapter in an hour and a half.
So we need to know what we are doing, we still need to go back to many basic concepts and examples, so that when we do problems, we will remember the examples, and we can finish them quickly. WS also solved the problem quickly. I think the learning problems of Sister KR and Sister WX can be solved.
So I encourage everyone to accumulate knowledge, knowledge is accumulated layer by layer, don't think about skipping to solve problems. Just like you want to buy a three-story house, you can't be impatient, you have to start from the foundation to build it. Once the knowledge system is established, it is not difficult to do it step by step with care and patience, and to learn.
Host: It will be slower at the beginning, but you will learn very quickly later. Next, let's talk about the issue of memory. Some students review very carefully in class, but they still can't remember it; or they remember it, but they still can't use it in the exam. A piece of knowledge is only useful after you express it yourself.
Pastors Must Know in Advance the Problems Faced by the Flock
Pastor: The pastors of the church must know in advance what problems the flock is facing, so that they can solve the problems of the flock. So pastors must learn to ask questions.
Sister PL: My class is a very good class. The students usually take notes very carefully, but in the final exam, they still haven't absorbed the content, and the scores are not high.
Pastor: A professor at a national university did an experiment and re-examined the college entrance examination content of college students, and finally found that not many passed. There is a big difference between understanding and not understanding. This phenomenon is because they didn't understand it when they were learning at that time. Understanding means really understanding. Just like the word of God, if you understand it, you can practice it. This is the same as swimming and riding a bicycle. It is difficult to forget what you have learned.
It is key to understand it when you learn it at that time. I like to solve things thoroughly. I put my mobile phone number on the website, but it doesn't ring often because my colleagues can solve it very well. Jehovah needs us to think, use the resources of the church, and solve the problem from the root. Can KR still read the Science textbook now?
KR: I can read it better than before.
Pastor: What should I do if I encounter problems when reading it? Can I find information myself?
KR: Now I can find information online myself.
Pastor: Some of our brothers and sisters have tutored KR. In this process, can we reflect and ask ourselves a question, what problems did KR encounter, and how should this problem be solved? As a pastor, we must learn to solve practical problems.
Host: I would like to use a passage from the Bible to summarize: But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:2) The pastor must read the Bible more times than us, so that he can integrate the things in the Bible. When we learn, as long as we spend time learning, there will definitely be results.
Knowing What Our Problems Are
Pastor: One of our habits is that we don't like to ask questions, we can't see the problems, and we don't know what the problems are? . I would like to ask the brothers and sisters present, what are your problems? Have you thought about it?
Brother: My problem is that I am not attentive and I am not interested in learning.
Pastor: That is, there is no problem. In fact, no problem is a very serious problem. Is our church good? I hope everyone will ask themselves, what is my problem? Sister WS's problem is that she doesn't pay attention to the foundation and skips the foundation to do problems directly, which is problematic. Only when the foundation is clear, and then do it, will it be more effective. Sister KR has learned to collect information. When I was helping KR solve the problem of Science course, KR asked me a question, and I immediately searched it online, and then let KR summarize what she read? KR knew it quickly.
We always exaggerate the problems we encounter. In fact, this problem is very small, but at this time, a negative emotion will arise, and you don't want to make efforts to solve it anymore.
Two Learning Attitudes: Super Care and Complete Disinterest
Host: There are two attitudes that are very harmful: complete disinterest and super care. We will see many reports of people who are super care about the results and eventually commit suicide. I would also like to use the words in the Bible to describe these two attitudes: The Lord, the Lord Almighty, will take away from Jerusalem and Judah all kinds of supply: all supplies of food and all supplies of water, the hero and warrior, the judge and prophet, the diviner and elder (Isaiah 3:1-2)
The result of being very care can be good or bad. At this time, the person's mental state is problematic, and they will ask themselves to do things that they cannot achieve. If the result is not good, they will do things in fear, afraid of being criticized, and the bad things will be magnified infinitely.
Pastor: Chinese football has a problem. Before the game, the coach will tell them that Chinese football is carrying 1.3 billion people, so they will be very stressed. As a result, they kicked an own goal. It is impossible to play well like this, but before the Germans play football, their mothers will say: Just play like a game, just have fun playing. They won the championship without any pressure. The education we receive is very bad education. For example, when children go to college, their parents say: No matter what, don't lose face for the family. Can they do well under so much pressure? The answer is obvious, so we must overcome psychological pressure.
Enjoy the Learning Process
Caring and not caring, care and indifference, I often have very wonderful discoveries when studying topics, so I enjoy this process very much. Every time I give a Sunday sermon, it is actually the publication of my thesis. Constant research will lead to new discoveries, and you will start to enjoy this process.
Whether you are a student or a professional. You can enjoy learning very much, but the lesson is not to care about the results of things, because this has a negligible impact on life. Many brothers and sisters will ask, what was my learning state at that time? In fact, my family didn't care much about grades, and I didn't care much myself. I just enjoyed being in learning. In fact, my parents didn't teach me how to learn. They just didn't put extra pressure on me.
Improve a Little Bit Every Day
Many times, if you care, you may not do well, love money may not make you rich, want to have good grades may not get you good grades; but if you are very free and easy, and enjoy what you do, you will definitely do well. What you care about and what you don't care about, this concept needs to be changed. I care very much about living a fulfilling life every day and improving a little bit every day. You will enter the state of the glorious children of God. In the future, I will also create a very comfortable working environment for the full-time colleagues of our church. I will not release pressure to them, because this pressure does not necessarily solve the problem. My way of solving problems is to let you learn and improve a little bit every day, and take root in the foundation.
Thinking too much does not help solve problems. Many people have this state, which is bondage; because the devil will release lies, but people can refuse to accept them and choose to do specific things and think about how to solve the problem. Focus is a very good quality. It is good to take one step at a time and practice it, focusing only on improving a little bit every day. If you improve today, you will see today's progress; don't look at what you haven't improved yet, because the devil will control people's thoughts and minds. It is very powerful to learn to pay attention to what you have and what you have improved.
A person who lacks the vision to discover the grace of the Lord and the vision to discover their own progress is not happy. And when the grace is not so obvious to be felt; you said it, some of your progress, this progress will be achieved. The grace of the Lord is not just great grace; improving a little bit every day is also the wonderful grace of the Lord. If you don't see your own grace, or don't say it, it will not be recognized, and progress will gradually disappear. Thinking is a good habit. When you move from a state of emptiness and chaos to a state of clarity, it is a kind of enjoyment!
The core of the 201 course:
I. People must have a Mingding: Abraham's Mingding is our Mingding. He opened up a living way for us.
II. The church is a platform to fulfill Mingding: Because we want to be a blessing to many people, we have no way to do it ourselves. We can only train ourselves in the church and bless many people through the platform of the church.
III. People lose Mingding and get hurt: Because they are controlled by ghosts, they live in a state of no goals and no Mingding, care about what God does not care about, get hurt, and live in bitterness.
1.We must do inner healing, which is restoring Mingding.
2.To take on Mingding, we must imitate inheritance.
3.Obey and commit.
4.Fight and win.
Next is a blessed life, with sense of clear direction, good time management and emotional management skills. you will surely be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. Solved the problems in these aspects, is our church's core system, I encourage you to learn this way, into a clear state, will be very enjoyable!
