Introduction

Hello everyone! Today we are going to study Proverbs chapter 05. If you read this chapter carefully, then you will find that this chapter is again about the subject of discipline.

My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;(Proverbs 5:1-3, NIV)

These are all relating to adultery. It tells us to keep away from adultery. Then what does keeping away from adultery have to do with wisdom? A promiscuous person can not be a wise person. Adultery can cause a lot of problem. It is not only a physical thing, it is also a spiritual matter.

What the Bible teaches us is to be wise, get more understanding and wisdom. How to become wiser? Chapter 5 of Proverbs tells us a very important theme, “Keep away from adultery”. A promiscuous person can not be wise.

There was a young man who was sent by his Chinese Company to do business in Singapore for a long time. He came to our church. One day, when we were doing Bible study, he suddenly dropped his cell phone on the ground. He looked very sad and angry. Then I asked him what had happened. It turned out that he committed adultery after he arrived in Singapore. Adultery has a very bad impact on him. Can you image a person who would drop his phone on the ground while doing study? When the study is over, you have to buy a new one. What king of brain he had? Why this? ecause there were a lot of adultery spirits with him, that is why he was so mess!

The spirit of adultery is unfaithfulness. A promiscuous person can’t concentrate and be faithful. Whether a person is wise or not is related to adultery. It is hard for a promiscuous person to be a wise person. Maybe you disagree with me and say: ”No, this is not true. They are doing big businesses.” Doing a successful business doesn’t mean the businessman is wise.

Later, he took another young man to prostitute, who was also a member of our church. He was about 18 or 19 years old. When he opened the door and saw those scenes, he was frightened and ran away. If he knew that was not a good place, he shouldn’t go. Actually he was curious and wanted to have a look. Unfortunately, the spirit of adultery came into his body. Later he made a girlfriend who was a adulteress. She made a phone call to him when she was lying with another man. This made the young man very angry. As a result, he punched the elevator then broke his hand. He went to the hospital for treatment, and there is still a steel plate in the bone. If the spirit of adultery is in a person, and that person will be foolish.

Some time ago, I heard a not very elegant words: thinking with lower body. Can the lower body think? Of course not. Thinking with lower body means thinking with the reproduction organs. Such a person is impulsive and doesn’t care about anything. We should know whatever a male or a female, a promiscuous person is very ignorant. If you look around, you can see there are many people who think with their lower body. This is nothing else, it is a spiritual matter. This is related to the spirit world.

Once a man and woman came in the church. The woman was a mother who came to Singapore with her child to study. She did some part-time job and earned very little money. Then she got to know the man. Then the man divorced and they lived together. After some time, the man had a relationship with the woman’s girlfriend.

Why this happened? The man told me, “I am a man, I have my physical needs”. I said, “I understand you are a man. You can’t control yourself when you have an impulsion.” He told me, “in order to live with that woman, he had to divorce and had a bad relationship with his children. One day, when he quarreled with the woman. She evicted him and he had nowhere to go. Then he went to the woman’s girlfriend. Then he had a relationship with the woman’s girlfriend.

What a mess this was! The man lived with the woman before he divorced. For the woman, she dripped honey from her lips and her speech was smoother than oil. What did she want? She wanted that man’s money and his citizenship. She wanted to get a legal status in Singapore. The man was also very silly. He should know what the purpose of the woman was. But the woman didn’t get what she want. She applied for permanent residence again and again, and was rejected again and again. There were so many similar cases in Singapore. This kind of fake marriage caused many couples to divorce and families apart. So the government has got smarter. They will investigate the case very carefully. Marrying to a local citizen doesn’t mean you will get a legal status.

Adulterer and adulteress think with their lower body. You must know the adultery thing is super powerful. That is why they are so stupid and controlled by the spirit of adultery.

Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say. Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house.(Proverbs 5:7-8, NIV)

Everybody should keep from such things. If you walk near to the adulteress’s house, then you will be captured by adultery spirit, then you will not be able to overcome it.

lest you lose your honor to others and your dignity to one who is cruel, lest strangers feast on your wealth and your toil enrich the house of another. At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors.
14 And I was soon in serious trouble in the assembly of God’s people.” (Proverbs 5:9-14, NIV)

In chapter 04, it talked about discipline. This chapter tells you to keep away from adultery. If you are controlled by adultery spirit, then you can’t think with your brain. Then you continue walking on the way of adultery. Then you can not get wisdom and understanding. Until you lose your honor to others and give your dignity to one who is cruel. At the end of your life, you will groan when your flesh and body are spent.

Why a person will hate discipline? It is only an excuse that you can’t control. You just follow your own feeling and impulsion. In the Bible, it says:

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. (Proverbs 5:18, NIV)

You may not have the same feeling with the wife of your youth. But Bible never tells us to follow our feeling. You need manage your feeling.

Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?(Proverbs 5:20, NIV)

This does not only apply to man, it also apply to woman.

Adultery is unfaithfulness

Whether man or woman, if you want to be a wise person, you have to keep away from adultery. The essence of adultery is unfaithfulness. It is difficult for a promiscuous person to focus on and get things done right. Once a person commits adultery, then the spirit of adultery spirit enters the person. Then he can’t think logically.

Some time ago, I saw an article in a WeChat group. It says there is some relationship between wisdom and the size of sexual organs. They studied many races. Then they found that the more developed the human sexual organs, the worse of the IQ of people. Later, they found that Asians, especially yellow skinned Asians are much smart than other races because their sexual organs are the least developed. I give these examples to show the connections between wisdom and keeping far from adultery.

Be a faithful person to God

Some people say,” I want to imitate King David”. First I thought he wanted to imitate King David and do what is right in the Lord’s eyes. Actually he told me he was talked about imitating King David’s prostitution. He didn’t know that king David paid a heavy price for that sin. But King David did many things which pleased God. For example, even he was hunted by Saul for 13 years but he didn’t want to harm his master. He also had to repent deeply for committing adultery. If you don’t have these qualifications, how can you imitate David? King David had repented before God. But you have not changed!

Keeping away from adultery is very important. Over the last few years, as a pastor, I had to listen to many dirty things I don’t want to know. Someone said, ”Pastor, I need your help.” Then I asked, ”tell me what happened.” Then he hesitated and said, “maybe I shouldn’t tell you.” Then I encouraged him, ”don’t worry. Are you going to talk about private things, right? I heard many about this.” Then he told me, “ I masturbate a lot.”

Later, I found out that this kind of person can’t focus on his work or study if he does that often. They are easy to be distracted. He had a very poor performance on his work. He made several companies to bankrupt. So I had to train him from scratch. I trained him on very specific things, step by step. Train him to focus on the work and pay attention to details.

I asked him to read university textbooks. Normally, those books are very classic. There are some questions or quizzes at the back of each chapter, which help the student to master the main concepts of that chapter. When he submitted his work, I can’t believe what he did. Not only he wrote it in Chinese , but also the work was really a mess. He had worked in Singapore for so many years but his English was so poor. That is ridiculous!

Some people said, “Pastor, I often visit porn sites, then I can’t control myself and masturbate.” Then I told him, “Can you do something meaningful instead of that? How can we have time for these things!” It was really silly. You did it, then regretted and felt exhausted after that. Then what is the value to do that? I asked him, ”how many times do you masturbate every week?” He told me that he did that six times a day. Oh My God! He indulged in porn so deep that he can’t be a wise person. That was why he lived such a mess life.

Some people wants to find a handsome boyfriend or a beautiful girlfriend. But in the end, they find that it is just a dream which is hard to fulfill. So brothers and sisters, I encourage you to do something meaningful and make a habit to try to be a wise and knowledgeable person. A promiscuous person will be like this:

lest strangers feast on your wealth and your toil enrich the house of another. At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors.(Proverbs 5:10-13, NIV)

As I told you before, some people said he wanted to imitate King David. Then another person said that he wanted to imitate King Solomon. Then I just wondered why don’t imitate something good. The Proverbs was written by King Solomon. We all know he had 3000 concubines in his place. Are you going to do like this? Do you have any qualifications or money to do that? When King Solomon was old, he had made a conclusion those things were meaningless. Why do you want to pursue those meaningless things?

King Solomon wrote the Proverbs to his descendants when he was old. We should read this carefully and learn the lessons from him. Some people said, “ Pastor, I can’t control myself.” Why not? We should practice focus and concentration on little things. Learn to do something meaningful and enjoy the work. Learn to rejoice in toil.

Summary

Start practicing being a person who can focus on his job and learn to love God. If you put your time into loving God, then nothing can control you. If you say you can’t control it, you really can’t control it. But if you say you can control it, then you can control it. Be a faithful person, not a promiscuous person. As we know adultery is a spiritual thing. Love God, focus on your job, then you will be a wise man.

For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.(Proverbs 5:21-23, NIV)

Start making a habit today to be a wise person. You should know your ways are in full view of the Lord. And God will examines your path. If you want to be a wicked one, then your evil deeds will ensnare you. Whatever a man or woman, they don’t know they are on the wrong path if they commit adultery. Today I will tell you that is a path to death.

At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors. And I was soon in serious trouble in the assembly of God’s people.” (Proverbs 5:11-14, NIV)

Even you are in a church, nobody can help you. It is up to you to make your choices. Keeping away from adultery is wisdom. Be a faithful person.
