【Bible Study】2 Samuel 6 : I Will Become Even More Undignified Than This And I Will Be Humiliated in My Own Eyes

Introduction

Hello everyone! Let us look at 2 Samuel chapter 6. After reading this chapter, you can tell what kind of person a person is from his attitude, which probably determines his attitude towards faith. Some people asked; “What is God doing?” Some people have begun to find fault with God and challenge God. Could it be that God is making mistakes? Many people do not understand, and they think it was God who made a mistake. I do not quite understand it either, but I always feel that I did not understand it properly. I do not think it was God who made a mistake, but I would think I am the one who did not do it right.

Everyone think what is the reason that Ming Ding theology exist because there is a person here that always feels that he does not understand correctly. Ming Ding is the result of pursuing it. We do not say to God, do you need to do this? Why are you doing this? That’s trouble! If we do not understand, we say, “God, I don’t understand how it works.” Every time I lead the Bible study, every chapter is like peeling off a layer of skin! Fortunately, my skin is durable and can be peeled off layer after layer. Looking up a chapter of the Bible is like peeling off a layer of skin. My skin is also resistant to wear and tear, and it makes my forehead shiny. How fabulous! Why am I peeling my skin? The reason is I could not understand it either. Some people said to me “ Can't you understand it as soon as you read the bible?” That is nonsense! If I could understand it as soon as I read it, I would not have to spend all day going through peeling my skin.

The previous chapter talked about David getting stronger and stronger day by day. This chapter talks about David, "I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. " This title is very good as only smart people think so, and those fools think they are great. I read it again after peeling off a layer of skin and found that David was even more humble. He regarded himself as contemptible, and only smart people know that this is wisdom. Everyone try to give it a go and to see yourself as being undignified and lowered yourself. There is great wisdom in this! What kind of wisdom? It means that you think of yourself as degrading and not highly of yourself.

If someone offended me or rude to me, that is not a big deal. I am nothing, if people do not offend me, who should they offend? Even if someone had misappropriated my money, I will not be affected by the matter, I got home , slept as usual and ate as usual. I humble myself , know I am undignified and in this way, I suffer less, and I am different from most ordinary people. Those people who are picky and feel someone is unfair to them, their life will be miserable as they get offended even by trivial things. They always think everyone owes them an apology as they thought they are entitled and great.

David thought he had done a good job, but God thought he had not done enough. Do you think being a king is great? Do you think you are awesome just because you mobilized 30,000 people and gave me the entire bullock cart to sit in? No matter what, you must drive a Mercedes with four wheels! In fact, they were wrong, because in the Bible, God has already said that the ark of God was carried by men. Are you still using bullock cart? Do you think you are a Philistine? As a result, David began to be afraid when he saw God killing Uzzah.

At that time, David did not think he had made a mistake. He thought he had done a good job. Who knew that the power of this Ark of the Covenant was so terrible, like a nuclear reactor, it would explode when it was full! It's like holding a bomb in your arms. He decided not to transport the Ark to the City of David, but to transport it to the house of Obed-Edom. The people watching on the side thought that Obed-Edom was going to be in bad luck! Was it unlucky? No, Obed-Edom was a very smart man! David thought he was wise, but he became a fool.

Later, David summarized and adjusted this matter, ** I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. This is called great wisdom!** “If he said, I was getting stronger day by day, this was my contribution, I was so great!“ If you give the ark of God an entire bullock cart, that would be awesome! If David thought proudly, “I am the king now! God, if I make you an ox cart, isn’t that giving you face? But this time he saw a dead person. David reacted quickly, felt that he was wrong, and he repented. The title of this chapter is " I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes." Before all had happened, he thought he was great, but in fact, what was so great about him before God?

The attitude one should have before God

In the process of building the church, what do I detest the most? Some people think they are helping me to build the church and I hated people with that attitude, seems like they were giving me grace. Why do I detest this? In fact, when building the church, what we needed the most is God, God is the one who is building the church, and do you think you are helping God to build the church? How dare I have such an attitude? You think you are helping God and therefore you are helping me. Do you think it will be fine if we are stick together as a stick of candied haws?

God was building His glorious church, and I was just a usable vessel in His hands. I always felt a person like me, where did I get the blessings to be used by God? There is a traditional term of saying “ancestors burn incense and smoke rises from their graves.” This is why I hate people who stated they helped me to build the church. I do not even dare to say that I am helping God to build the church. I just said, “God, I was chosen by you to have such an honor and grace to build your glorious church. It must be a blessing that I have earned in my life.

Many people look at me and think that I am fierce but deep inside me I am not proud and look at myself as a insignificant person. This is also the reason why I am joyous, and no one can rob away my joyfulness from me. You are rude to me, spit at me, I will not be affected by your behavior. I will continue to enjoy my food and sleep well. Why? This is normal for me as I am a insignificant person.

I do not think since I am the one who started Ming Ding theology, so everyone must respect me. Is it so great that I have founded Ming Ding Theology. It is nothing special and do not look at what I usually said, I am trying to build up everyone’s confidence. But deep inside me I am so blessed to have this opportunity to serve my God while I am alive. I clearly understand that serving is a grace and work is also a grace.

Some people will take credit and become arrogant thinking that they have made a lot of contributions to the company and have created a substantial value. They will start to think how the boss can treat them like this. They feel miserable inside , this is what we call looking for misery by themselves. If the boss declined to give him a promotion, he would feel even more miserable. I am opposite, if I did not get a promotion, I will be thinking why should I get promoted? Now, do you understand why I am a joyful person. The worst thing of a person is thinking highly of themselves, in Chinese saying, they think they are a plate of an expensive dish. Why daughter and mum always fight? Mum thinks she is an expensive dish, and the daughter also thinks she is an expensive dish. Both of them think they are an expensive dish, that is exactly the problem.

Therefore, the attitude that people should have before God is what I had just mentioned. Why did David changed his attitude later? David, understood he had a bad attitude before God and said to God “What else you want from me?” God wants for us to have a humble attitude. We must know we are a human being, and we have to humble ourselves before God all our life. This is the attitude a person should possess. If we are facing grief, we will squeeze two drops of tears as though someone had wronged us a lot. If I were to follow your standards, then my grievances would be more than just two tears?

We have to be humble before God and even if you are a King, you also have to be humble before God not to only mention that you are just a pastor , pastoral leader, or a group leader. We need to have this kind of wisdom, if you do not have this kind of wisdom, we will always be thinking we are a plate of an expensive dish, and this was also the wisdom of David. Abel and Cain, both offered sacrifices to God and why was one accepted and the other one not? All came to right or wrong attitude.

When working in an enterprise, we are not afraid that the people we hire are incompetent, but we are afraid that the people we hire do not have a good attitude. If your attitude is wrong, it will not work. Even if you are right in other areas of your job but you do not have the right attitude, it will not work either. Why could Saul not offer a sacrifice? Saul did not have the right attitude. God longed for more faithful priests, so it was okay for David to offer sacrifices, because David was a faithful priest. This was a matter of attitude. If you do well, will you not be accepted? If you do not do well, then you need to think about it carefully.

What God values is the attitude within a person

Do you know why I sometimes deliberately make you angry? That was because I wanted to agitate you and see how you react. Some people become rebellious as soon as they are agitated. They might be loyal on the surface, but they are not loyal deep down. I agitated the person and saw their reaction of the person. What God values is a person’s attitude. Let me ask you, what was Uzzah’s attitude towards God? He wanted to help God and thought that God could not do it without him? That was also the reason why God kill him.

I wish our brothers and sisters do not have the same thinking as Uzzah, thinking that you are helping me to build the church, or I will help you this and that. I do not need your help at all. Do you think I am a person who enjoys great achievements? I do not want to be like Peter, who preached a sermon, and three to five thousand people came to believe in the Lord. It would be good if only five people out of the five thousand people truly love God.

What do I think of myself? I have told everyone if you say I look like a dog. I will ask you, “What kind of dog?” I am just a piece of poop. If someone said that I am a lapdog and I would say to them that they have given me too much credit. I am just a piece of poop. I answer you in this way and what other tricks do you have? My trick is very powerful which is look down upon myself.

What God wants is attitude. Why did God choose me? Firstly, I am absolutely loyal to God and I will not back down even if I am killed. Secondly, I consider myself as contemptible. Neither I thought why I should give offerings to God nor why God loves money so much. I often think, if I do not have God, I would have been dead somewhere long ago. Now God has saved my life, I should dedicate my life to God. From the first day I believed in the Lord, the attitude in my heart has humility in it.

Humility us definitely not showing one way or another in front of others. It is the starting to know that you are just a human being and that you need God. Therefore, I am humble before God, I established Ming Ding theology. I speak mandarin with a strong northeastern accent and Northeastern people like to talk nonsense. It is great that you know me as I regard myself as a lowly person. There are not many people like me since ancient times and only one appears in five hundred years. Some people think I am bragging. why is it so difficult to find people in this world who don’t think so well of themselves? The theory of seeing yourself as a humble and humble person is similar to my theory.

Have you ever stepped on dog poop while playing in the park? I do not like having dogs because I often step in dog poop. God values a person based on his inner attitude. The Ark of the Covenant had been in Uzzah's home for at least fifty or sixty years. It had been in their home since Uzzah was born, but he never took the Ark seriously and would just throw it into a small shed. Once it was stuffed inside, it felt like it was just a broken cabinet, and he might even want to find an opportunity to auction it off to save his space. This was Uzzah’s attitude.

They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart with the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it. David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals. 2 Samuel 6:3-5 NIV

In fact, David also had done things wrongly. After he became powerful after becoming King, he had done several things. He selected 30,000 people from among the Israelites and built a new chariot. He also hired Uzzah and Ahio, the two sons of Abinadab, to drive the bullock cart. He felt that he had done a good job. They also used musical instruments made of pine wood, such as harps, drums, cymbals, and gongs, for music and dancing. Does God want all these instruments and dancing? God does not need all these. He only needs the attitude within us. Just like many churches now playing drums, just like Internet celebrities, the drums are played so hard! They sing very well, play the piano very well, and dance gracefully with the singing.

But is that what God wants? What does God want that thing for? If you want to see that stuff, go to a concert. Our church has long since abandoned the concert like worshipping because what God wants is our attitude inside us! I lead everyone to the right path because I regard myself as humble. Even if the pastor offended you, you will not be get offended. David did a lot of things that God did not want, and God killed Uzzah. David should carry the ark of the covenant himself; he should use the family of priests to carry the ark. No matter what, your attitude must be right! What God wants is attitude.

Abinadab’s attitude toward God

In 1 Samuel Chapter 7, told us that the Ark of God was sent to the battlefield by Eli and was captured by the Philistines. God’s Ark of the Covenant does not need human protection. God will protect His Ark Himself. As a result, the Philistines personally brought back the Ark of God and sent it to Beth-Shemesh. But God smote many of the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh, and then the ark came to the house of Abinadab. The Ark of the Covenant remained in Abinadab's house for about 50 years. This treasure was in the house of Abinadab, but it did not bring blessing to the house of Abinadab. If there were blessings, it would be written in the Bible. Were there blessings in the house of Abinadab because the ark of God was placed in their house?

It was not written in the bible, so the Ark of Covenant was placed casually in a small shed at his house or maybe he wanted to auction it off. Probably Abinadab was thinking “It was only a cabinet.” He had never regarded the Ark of the Covenant as a treasure but integrated his attitude toward God and the Ark. It is just like sugar dissolves in the water and merges into one. Due to this reason, Uzzah felt that his family had been taking care of the Ark of the Covenant for fifty years and it was just only a cabinet. Casually, there were only a few people who carried the Ark and put it on the Bullock cart.

Let me remind everyone that if we believe in the Lord with the wrong attitude, our faith will be in vain. We must have the right attitude. Many pastors feel that serving God requires too much effort! But I think I am willing to pay no matter what. Some people say, “God! Look, I have given so much, what else do you want me to do?” What a bad attitude! Have you ever seen a pastor like this? Anyway, I had seen too many! This is important. If you have the wrong attitude, even if you have a treasure in your hand, and you are not aware of it, it is a great tragedy in one’s life!

Abinadab and everyone in his family thought that they were helping Jehovah to look after the cabinet. If our family had not looked after the cabinet, it would have been exposed to wind, rain, and sun. However, even without their family guarding this cabinet, the wind would not blow it away, the rain could not get it wet, and the sun could not bask in it. Do you believe it or not? This was God’s Ark of the Covenant. How could God not even protect His own Ark of the Covenant? This was a bad habit that people have developed since their childhood thinking in our family, we helped God to look after the cabinet. This is an extremely bad attitude. If you come to our church, you have the same attitude thinking you are here to help me to build a church, please just go away as you will be cursed. Your attitude is not good, and nothing you do will be good.

Honestly, there are not many pastors that I look highly upon, not many Christians that I look highly upon. If you really have the attitude of Obed-Edom before God, it would be amazing. I will look on you as a precious treasure. We could see Abinadab’s attitude towards God was obviously not good.

Obed-Edom’s attitude toward God

The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household. 2 Samuel 6:11 NIV

Uzzah was killed by God because of the Ark of the Covenant. Are you still willing to take the Ark of the Covenant to your home? You definitely do not want to, right? But Obed-Edom was so powerful that he took the ark to his house. After he took it home, he felt extremely reverent towards God, and all he could think about was, “How did I achieve this blessing? How could I have this opportunity to take the Ark of God into my home? Where did I get this blessing?” No one dared to bring the Ark of the covenant back home except Obed-Edom took it into his house. There are two types of people, one shows God’s wrath, because all he receives is God’s wrath and the other type of person receives all God’s love.

A person who loves God receives abundant love from God, but a person who does not love God is cursed and receives the wrath of God. In this life, if you are given an opportunity, you must take it to your own home! The ark of the covenant was in the house of Obed-Edom, and God blessed him greatly. How did God bless him? In what way did he bless him? That could be seen. David sent people to the house of Obed-Edom, and what he saw was that Obed-Edom prospered in whatever he did. If everything you do is full of problems and you are always unlucky then you are not blessed because your attitude inside is wrong.

Tithing is a good example as once I shepherd a person and after shepherding him, was blessed and his financial situation had turned around. I said to him that you have to start to give tithe and he said it was merely two hundred dollars only. Take it with you. He thought I am a beggar. Forget about it and we cannot have this kind of person in our church. Later, he suffered from a terminal disease. Was that unlucky? Absolutely he was cursed. Therefore, everyone must know how glorious and awesome God’s name is. We are just human beings, and we are just like losers among the crowd, let alone before God? Before God, no matter how rich you are, how high your status is, or even if you are a king, we must know that there is a God in heaven who controls our lives. He is the Lord of all things, and how awesome he is.

I serve God with reverence and why do I serve God with all my heart? I serve everyone as though I am serving God. I am crying in my heart no matter how unwilling I am as I fear my God and not follow my will even, I am killed. I serve people as I serve God. Thank you, God, for giving me this opportunity to serve. Serving and working are grace. Everyone should have a willing heart to work, serving others is grace, what I am saying is referring to myself. If you willing to listen, please listen up. If you like the old horse logic of eating, drinking and having fun then my advice to you is go ahead to eat, drink, and have lots of fun till the Alzheimer disease knock on your door.

Obed-Edom was amazing! Such a person is worthy of our imitation and learning. He happily took the Ark home without pushing it or letting it go. That is how he was chosen by God. God chose Abinadab incorrectly at first, but later chose Obed-Edom.

God originally chose Abinadab, but he did not choose the right one. Later God chose Obed-Edom. What God said in the two books of 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel were that He was looking for a faithful priest who was after God’s heart. Everyone must learn from Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul to be a faithful priest before God. We also should learn from Obed-Edom and David to be a wise man and know that God is a treasure.

No matter what the circumstances, our God reveals two sides, on one side God has stated in the bible “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NIV
On the other side, “ punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 'Deuteronomy 5:9 NIV
This is our choice. God can always arrange additional one or more faithful priest on Earth. \

Obed-Edom was a very smart man. He had just seen God kill Uzzah, but he could happily take the ark into his home. No one else dared, but he did. What kind of person was this? In the past few years, when he saw the Ark of the Covenant in the house of Abinadab, he was thinking in his heart, if only he could have the Ark of the Covenant and have the opportunity to serve God, how wonderful would that be! Then God chose him. When David saw Uzzah dead, he closed his eyes and pointed with his finger at Obed-Edom, and he chose him. This did not happen in one or two days. Do not worry, everyone, prepare yourself well. Do not all come to serve when I requested but said to me, please arrange it for me to serve. If you have this determination, even when I closed my eyes, my finger will be pointing at you. All because God will definitely choose you. But you need to have a good attitude.

David readjusted his attitude: I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes

David sent men into the house of Obed-Edom to see if they were still alive. After Uzzah died, King David did not dare to carry the Ark of the Covenant into his own city. He originally thought it was a good thing, but he came up and killed a man. David was frightened, but when they took a look, they discovered that God had blessed Obed-Edom with prosperity.

Do you understand? Let me give you an example, suppose that Obed-Edom’s family opened a bun shop, and there was also a bun shop next to it, selling millet porridge, rice dumplings and steamed buns. Some might say ”what are you talking about?” Am I not giving you an analogy? We do not know whether Obed-Edom sold steamed buns. It was just an example, do not argue with me. In the past, Obed- Edom would shout "selling buns" every day, but no one would come to buy. Later it was changed to "selling dumplings", but no one came to buy. Even if they sold burgers, no one came to buy. But as soon as the Ark of the Covenant came in, there was a long queue outside the shop and there was a long queue of people. Some people were willing to wait for two hours to eat his steamed buns, hamburgers, and drink his millet porridge. That was how prosper he was as an illustration.

We have to understand God chose people based on their attitude. Therefore, David asked Obed-Edom to return the ark of the covenant to him and place it in David's city. At this time, the rectification was correct, and the bullock cart was rectified by the Philistines, and the ark was carried by people. The rectification was clear. David danced before the Ark of the Covenant. Do you know that kind of dancing? He danced wearing a tie and shirtless, swinging his legs left to right and ushered the Ark of Covenant into the city. Did anyone died? No one was killed and died.

This is all Northeastern jokes, shirtless and wearing a tie, only Northeastern people can do it. Everyone was stunned as David regarded himself as lowly. How could any king do this? In the past, 30,000 people and bullock-carts were prepared to meet the Ark of the Covenant. Now that I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. This attitude is what we should have before God. When David's attitude was correct, no one would die. David's dynasty also grew stronger and stronger. For our God is a God of prosperity.

Anyone of us, as long as we are not blessed yet, we need to change our attitude. If you can have this attitude, you will receive abundant love from God, you will love God, and you will know what it means to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength.” You will not be like Uzzah or Abinadab, but you will be like Obed-Edom and David. Attitude is such a big deal; it is just a matter of our thoughts! We need to have a good attitude first. I have said so much, let us talk about Michal’s attitude towards God.

Michal's attitude towards God

Michal inherited the attitude of Saul. Saul did not feel either undignified, or humiliated. He felt that he was a great and dignified King. If you think you are so awesome, can be wear a tie without a shirt? That will be impossible. You will want to wear a suit, a leather shoes with a gun in your hand, a helmet, an armour and riding a horse. That will be looking very glamourous and looking so good in the photo. If both David and Saul standing next to each other, people would think that David was a cleaner or a madman. Saul would be looking tall and handsome. He would look so cool, but it was no value, his attitude was not right and it was full of poop. Michal saw David and thought if David was like his father Saul that would great. Michal was embarrassed by David’s behaviour.

Michal had a wrong idea in her mind that was the logic of people. Brothers and sisters, we need to know that if we want to be great in the kingdom of God, we must be servants of everyone. That's the logic. It is not like some pastors who look like pastors but are not in their hearts. Like me, I have an unattractive appearance and vulgar language, but when I am in front of God, I feel that I am so virtuous that I can serve my God. Michal inherited Saul’s worldly logic system.

David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.” 2 Samuel 6:21-22 NIV

David was not a boastful and a show off person. David was one of the wisest people who ever lived. Saul was a fool, and his brain was full of poop. Even though he looked very handsome so what? It was useless. David and Obed-Edom were both men worthy of imitation and learning. If you can learn from them, you will become a great person in this life. Demons who practice to perfection are called "goblins", and people who practice to perfection are called "human spirits". Michal, Saul, and Uzzah were all fools. I wish that all my brothers and sisters could be wise and precious in the eyes of God. How wonderful it is to be a human being! What is produced by chicken is called "chicken essence", and what is produced by humans is called "human essence".

Conclusion

It took me a little effort to summarize this chapter here. The topic is really clear, and as I said, my level has been upgraded compared to my previous bible study. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. This sentence is the golden rule! From now on, do not treat yourself like an expensive dish. Start building this habit now!

May God bless everyone!
