【Musings】Do you yearn to be a person with the vision of an eagle?

2016-11-07 5,850 Y133 Course - Living Abundantly

Possessing Eagle-Eyed Insight

The eagle embodies soaring ambition, agile responsiveness, and imposing presence. Its wings, broad and powerful, propel it skyward, battling the heavens. Its gaze, sharp and bright, pierces through the fog, revealing all. Its talons, keen and strong, seize prey, never relenting.

With its sharp vision and powerful claws, the eagle perpetually reigns at the apex of the food chain in nature. In the natural order, opportunity is inextricably linked to survival. Without far-sighted vision, one is mercilessly eliminated by fate.

Many lament their lack of opportunity, attributing their unsatisfactory lives to the absence of favourable chances. Yet, God bestows the same opportunities upon all. Some succeed, others fail, not because God favours or abandons anyone, but because the successful seize their opportunities. Those adept at spotting and seizing opportunities achieve vastly different outcomes from those who are not.

On a Pacific island, two salesmen from British and American shoe factories arrived. After surveying the island, they discovered that no one wore shoes. The next day, they telegraphed their factories. The British salesman wired: "Island devoid of shoes. Returning tomorrow." The American salesman, however, wired: "Island devoid of shoes. Excellent prospects for shoe sales. Intend to stay."

The following day, the British salesman departed, while the American remained to post "advertisements." His ads featured a robust local man, shod in leather shoes, carrying prey such as tigers, leopards, wolves, and deer, exuding strength and virility.

Intrigued, the natives inquired about acquiring what the man in the advertisement wore on his feet. Thus, the American salesman's shoes gradually gained traction.

Everyone aspires to success and prosperity, striving diligently. Many console themselves with the adage: "Effort is directly proportional to reward." However, they often overlook the crucial prerequisite: a correct direction. Otherwise, strenuous effort becomes futile struggle. When one veers further down the wrong path, success recedes into the distance. If you possess the sharp vision of an eagle, with foresight and the ability to spot opportunities, can success be far off?

The key to life lies in growth. Regardless of when you begin, as long as you are willing to change, it is the optimal time to start. Habits can be altered, and vision can be trained. Learning to observe is a vital skill. Just because things appear fine does not necessarily mean they are. Learn to identify problems, and upon discovery, address them promptly. The effects may not be immediate, but small, accumulated changes will eventually lead to significant differences.

A proactive and confident attitude will help one achieve much. What you see is what you get. See opportunity, and you will gain opportunity. See bleak desolation, and you will inherit desolation. What you see is yours; what you do not see is not.

How to see what others cannot, to discover opportunities others miss? This requires exceptional vision. Can vision be trained? How can we cultivate it?

  1. See the Good in Everything

Cultivating Eagle-Eyed Wisdom

In every event, we must discern the positive aspects. When problems arise, we must identify our shortcomings, areas for improvement, and how to improve. In work and life, we inevitably encounter difficult people. We cannot change the environment or others, but we can alter our mindset and behaviour. In all things, we must strive to see the good. For instance, if you encounter a difficult superior at work and cannot avoid them, learn to change your thinking. If you can work well with a difficult superior, your potential is immense. Be adept at observing the forces that promote personal growth.

  1. Stand Higher, See Further

Many become entangled in immediate gains, lacking a long-term goal and failing to see the road ahead. It is more blessed to give than to receive, yet many fail to grasp this simple principle of blessing. Many renowned companies understand this well. Consider Didi Chuxing, a ride-hailing app. Initially, many were sceptical, but its low fares and efficient service won over a large and loyal following. It provided a convenient way for people to travel and allowed many idle private cars to be utilized. Soon, Didi Chuxing became the preferred mode of transportation, changing people's lifestyles. Despite recent fare increases, people still habitually choose this option. Didi Chuxing's success is inextricably linked to the long-term vision of its decision-makers.

  1. See Through Things

Do not merely observe the surface; learn to see through phenomena to the essence. Learn to see opportunity in chaos, the future in the present, and turning points in economic crises. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the entire Asian economy plunged into severe recession. Yet, financier George Soros saw opportunity in the crisis, reaping substantial profits. The total amount of wealth in the world remains constant; financial crises merely transfer money from one group to another. If we can see through the surface to the essence of things, we can discover opportunities others miss, gaining unexpected rewards.

Similarly, in the process of character development, we inevitably encounter offenses and challenges. But if you see through these appearances to the essence, you will find that these difficulties become beneficial to your life. Having been tempered by these trials, the height of your life will increase. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.

  1. See Clearly

The most important ability of a leader and decision-maker is to concretize abstract concepts. When new concepts and ideas emerge, many cannot conceive or see them clearly, feeling there are too many uncertainties and not knowing how to discern and analyze. If you can see the direction forward in the midst of ambiguity, you will reap success you never imagined. When Jack Ma created Alibaba over a decade ago, no one believed in him. Everyone called him a liar and a madman. Yet, Alibaba has now become a leading global internet company. Taobao and Alipay have completely changed people's lifestyles, penetrating every corner of their lives. If those who rejected Jack Ma at the time could have seen the immense potential of the internet, their lives might have been rewritten.

  1. Inherit More

Seven Key Qualities for Success

Many often fall into the mistaken belief that doing something well means creating everything from scratch. In fact, true innovation does not require being unconventional and rejecting all previous experience. Learning to inherit is a crucial quality. When others have done well, we can directly adopt their methods. If you can learn everything others have done, you are already a formidable individual. New and old are relative concepts. Anything you did not know before, but are now exposed to, is new to you. Inherit it. If, in this learning process, you have new ideas and innovations, pushing others' success further, then you are remarkable. The best way to inherit is through reading, turning others' knowledge into your own, and learning to create and break through in inheritance.

  1. Do More

Many believe that what the eyes see is the truth. However, relying solely on the eyes often leads to errors; appearances are not necessarily reality. In the workplace, we often encounter situations where tasks are not within our job description. Some will readily do them, while others instinctively avoid them. Many fear taking a loss, haggling over trivial matters. In fact, if you do well, will you not be accepted? What you do is seen by others; rewards and punishments are not arbitrary. Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental, recounted his success story. When he was in college, he single-handedly fetched water and cleaned the dormitory for everyone. Many might have thought he was foolish and taken advantage of. However, when he started his business and sought help from his classmates, they said that his act of fetching water for the dormitory had moved them, and they readily offered assistance. Thus, New Oriental was born. In the workplace, do not fear hardship or doing more. If you often proactively do things beyond your job description (positive, reasonable, and correct things), then you are not far from promotion.

  1. Yearn More

The Bible says: Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. We must yearn for growth. The more we yearn, the more we receive. We must yearn for change and renewal from the inside out, starting with a change of heart. Man is made in God's image. God is a God who does new things, so we must have God's likeness and be people who do new things. Yearn for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, yearn for renewal, yearn to receive power. A proactive and confident attitude will move God's hand to help us achieve what we desire in our hearts!

Many often lament, "I am not well-educated. There are so many outstanding people in the world. How can success ever come to me?" This is not necessarily the case. We often see people who, despite having read many books, still live in poverty and mediocrity. Conversely, there are many instances of people without higher education achieving remarkable success. We must realize that a person's success is not necessarily related to how much they have read, but it is directly related to their vision. Therefore, we must constantly be vigilant, constantly practice our observation skills, and learn to have the sharp vision of an eagle, so that everything is clear in our eyes. Will success still be difficult?
